They have at least two very large ball rooms and they have a eight seat sushi bar with the famous telescope that the Japanese used to spy on Pearl Harbor leading up to December 7, 1941 the beginning of World War 2. The sushi rice is perfect perfect temperature. The fish is really good. The Omakase is not too long. The Natsunoya Deluxe bentos have an incredible selection of items and so delicious! Everything was flavorful, nicely packed, and easy to take home leftovers. Tip: 1) Review the catering section on the website. 2) Call, don't email, as soon as you finalize your bento numbers. They may need to determine if they are able to accommodate your order given other orders already received for that same day. I called 2 weeks ahead. Used to be my favorite place for sushi. Felt so at home here and we went all the time. Loved the BYOB aspect and the sushi chef Sho always served the best fish. They tried to make improvements by renovating the counter which was okay but honestly I liked the other classic look where we could see what kind of fish was available. They also stopped the BYOB because they started to sell alcohol. Actually you can still BYOB but the corkage fee is ridiculously high so not worth paying it. Despite these changes I was still willing to make this our go to place for sushi. My low rating is because they ruined the place by making it MANDATORY to order the omakase. I don't want to be forced to get the omakase when I know what I like to eat and that's what I want to order. I've been going here for so many years and I am truly disappointed that loyal patronage means nothing to this family owned business. Being my first omakase experience, it was amazing! It's some of the best sushi I've ever had the menu was so diverse and definitely worth it. I even got to try sea urchin for the first time which was also a first! The atmosphere was peaceful and my group had our own room. Chef Sho does it again! I think this is my 3rd time here and it's always amazing! The atmosphere is so chill, clean and renovated since the last time I came. The omakase set was delicious and we also had extras like a steak, agadashi tofu, chawan mushi, squid, and a very delicious matcha and strawberry cheesecake for dessert. Did you know tucked within is a sushi bar that seats 12 diners? It was my first time dining at the sushi counter and the experience was unforgettable. I've been here a number of times over the years, and I must say, it's a wonderful place to enjoy a special occasion! I had a surprise baby shower here in one of private cottages, attended a company holiday party, and hosted my son's first birthday party here. All were outstanding experiences! The food here is high quality and crafted carefully. Many people say their shrimp tempura is the best they've ever had. I have to agree that it's quite good and fresh! We recently booked the Nigo room upstairs for a 1st birthday party. What I especially love is that you can bring your own pupu, desserts. and drinks! They provide ice for .50 cents a guest, which is so reasonable! When we arrived, everything was already set! The AC was on and running cold. The extra tables I requested were already set up with tablecloths. Even the ice water and hot tea they provide were out. That was fabulous! We arrived an hour early to set up and with all our extra hands, that was enough time. The room can seat up to 50, and we had about 35. I probably wouldn't push it past 40. Oh, and I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that the view from in there is absolutely stunning! Nearly 360 degrees of ocean and urban Honolulu! Breathtaking! We choose buffet A, which was $32/person. The food spread was delicious! We had rice, noodles, macaroni salad, fruit, regular salad, hibachi chicken, agedashi tofu, teriyaki beef, and shrimp and vegetable tempura. Our room attendant was thoughtful, polite, prompt, and checked in on us many times. I loved how homey the room felt. We were upstairs and had our own bathroom. It felt nice and secluded from others. It's high time I update this review with the happenings: Preface to say that during the Pandemic, Natsunoya was my place to pick up ready made food, aka bento boxes. After the Panedemic; regular catered dinners resumed including the Furo-Ba Sushi room Finally!!!!!! after 15 years my dining partners and I had a meal at the Furo-Ba sushi room. Reservations recommended because Furo-Ba is not open everyday (Wednesday-Saturday open 5-9 pm) . There are 12 seats that make up the Sushi bar and 2 high tops that would seat an additional 4 people. So- therein lies a more important reason for your reservation. In addition to the sushi and sashimi menu, there are kitchen items you can order. We had the agedashi tofu, hamachi kama, chicken karaage, soft shell crab, veggie and shrimp tempura and the infamous sashimi omakase and all dishes pretty darn good. I'm not even going to discuss the price! Hint- another reason to dine there. Oh oh! Don't let me forget! it's a BYOB location I am not going to be a stranger to Natsunoya ever again! Six stars to Natsunoya because 5 stars isn't enough. I absolutely love Natsunoya's! Hands down the food is always so good. Some of my favorite are: tempuras (shrimp is a must), pulehu beef, steamed fish, potato/noodle mac salad. This review is more for those planning events. It was so easy to coordinate and work with Natsunoya to plan my event. They were patient with me and very helpful. I would totally have more events here in the future. My daughter who enjoyed working there was given 3 of her paychecks yesterday. Two of the 3 were from 2025 and both were expired. She has had problems there before where she worked on college breaks. Today I spoke to a person my daughter identified as one of the managers, who also claimed to be the owner when I asked for the name and number of the owner to talk about this issue. I asked him why would a business give expired paychecks to an employee when she has asked in person for them multiple times prior and he knows she returns to college tomorrow. Initially she went in to settle it herself, however she came out and said that they will mail it to her but did not give her a timeline even though she asked when they would be mailed. Apparently he ignored her question. This is totally UNACCEPTABLE. As her parent, I went back in I asked for the checks today and explained how he was taking advantage of my daughter bc she is young and quiet and we drive her back and forth for this issue. Amazingly, she received her check in 5 minutes. Why did he not do that earlier when she asked? He also appeared to be short with me when telling me their paycheck process. The manager claimed that he told my daughter the 3 ways she could get the checks: ask for it, get it mailed or direct deposit. She told him she asked multiple times. He asked for proof. As a legitimate business, he should have given her the paycheck when they were due, period. He and the other female manager seem to be playing mind games with these young workers as they appear to laugh and joke when the issue was brought up. This is also happening with her friend who worked there longer than she has. Her friend is missing several paychecks from last year. I know that this manger is not the owner. My daughter told me who he is and that he is very professional and kind to the workers. I hope he now can fix these issues for the current workers who may not speak up or have someone to help them get their valid paychecks. It's quite sad bc she would tell me she enjoyed working with the other workers. read more

'Iolani class reunion. I can't believe I grew up on Oahu and never made it here. It's what I imagine a tea house would be like in Japan. It's a large building with multiple floors and well decorated. I really wanted to give Natsunoya a better review because the venue itself is beautiful, the food that was served was delicious, and our guests had a great time. Unfortunately, the planning process and customer service left a lot to be desired. I have been going to Natsunoya's for years but this past event has shown them in a different light. Communication was by far the biggest issue. It was nearly impossible to get ahold of anyone. Phone calls often went unanswered, emails sent to their multiple email addresses rarely received responses, and we frequently had to drive there in person just to get answers even though we don't live nearby. Our planner/coordinator also had difficulty getting in contact with them. Sandra, the manager, told us we could reach out to her anytime, but she rarely responded to our questions. Another frustrating experience was the alcohol policy. We booked our wedding and paid our deposit in November 2025, more than six months before our event, when the venue allowed BYOB. After we had already committed, they obtained their liquor license and implemented a mandatory corkage fee of $5 per guest over the age of 21, regardless of whether that guest planned to drink alcohol. What was even more frustrating was that they never proactively informed us of this change. We only found out because we reached out with questions about bringing alcohol. Had we not asked, we likely never would have known about the new fee until much later. While I understand businesses can change policies, introducing additional costs after deposits have been made and not even notifying existing clients was extremely disappointing and shady practice. Even securing our reservation date was unnecessarily stressful. We were initially told our preferred date was booked, but that the other party might cancel and we'd be notified. The next day we were told they decided to keep the reservation. A few days later, when we called to discuss other dates, we were suddenly told our original date had actually opened up because the other party had canceled days earlier. Had we not called ourselves, we likely would have lost the date despite being told they would notify us. The biggest disappointment happened on the day of the event. One of the main reasons we chose Natsunoya was because I love their shoyu pork. Since it wasn't included on the buffet menu we selected, we specifically paid extra to add it. It was never served. When we asked about it, staff questioned whether we had even ordered and paid for it. Having to defend a menu item we specifically added and paid extra for on our wedding day was incredibly disappointing. In the end, our event was still wonderful because of our family, friends, and vendors, and I appreciate the quality of the food that was served. However, customer service and communication are just as important as the venue itself, especially when you're trusting someone with hosting a big event. I hope Natsunoya improves these areas because the venue has so much potential, but based on our experience, I can't wholeheartedly recommend them without reservations. read more

*Sushi Bar Review* came on a Wednesday for dinner and we were the only party, so the food came out fast! I made a reservation a couple weeks in advance. The parking is very easy. My favorite things were the tempura, oysters and Nigiri. The tempura batter here is perfect and it came out hot and crispy. The batter is so light and not greasy. The soft shell crab was also delicious but it wasn't hot when they served it to us. The oysters were fresh and the perfect size (Kumamoto I believe). I wish I had skipped the Omakase and just got a dozen or more oysters! The Omakase was good but I received the full/ large size when I ordered the small portion. Ribeye steak was a bit tough, wouldn't recommend ordering it. Stick with the sushi and sashimi! You order all the hot food with the waiter and Chef Sho will take all the sushi orders. Held my son and daughter-in-law's twin babies shower here. The food we ordered was from their Lunch Buffet Style Selection (25 people or more) Menu G - $35 per person, children under 4 is free. Menu includes different choices of entrees but we chose the following: - Comes with both Bara Sushi rice and White rice - Oriental Salad (other choice was Salmon Tofu Salad) - Agedashi Tofu - Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura - Hibachi Chicken (other choice was Fried Chicken) - Shoyu Pork (other choice was Tonkatsu) - Steamed Fish (other choice was Baked Catch) - Nishime (other choice was Noodles) - Potato Salad All the food was delicious...everyone enjoyed it! It's hard for me to choose what my favorite was because all were very tasty but I did go back to get more tofu and shrimp tempura so maybe these were it. Hardly any leftovers except for 2 containers of white rice and a couple of sandwich bags with little chicken and toss salad. Here are some FYI's: 1. When reserving a room, they collect a deposit of $200 which will be subtracted from your final bill. Deposit is NON-REFUNDABLE 2. There's a room charge of $150...this was for the Nigo room which is located upstairs. It may vary depending on the room you need to accommodate your head count 3. "Final head count", "menu selection" AND "50% of your total bill" is required 2 weeks prior to your event 4. Food is "Buffet-Style" but NOT all you can eat 5. They accept credit card payments or cash. NO PERSONAL CHECKS ACCEPTED 6. The room is reserved for 3 hours 7. They give you an extra hour before your function for set-up only (No confetti or glitter) 8. If you bring a helium tank, you need to dispose it or they'll add $25 to your bill 9. Beverages are B.Y.O.B. (subject to change). They did have 2 complimentary dispensers, one with cold water and the other with hot tea 10. They do offer beverage service that includes punch and iced tea (ice and cups provided) for a fee of $1.50 per guest 11. They can provide 1) ice to chill your drinks for a fee of $0.50 per guest; 2) ice and cups for a fee of $1.00 per guest 12. Our room was on the 2nd floor. They have wooden stairs so a hand truck might damage it 13. You can bring your own pupus and desserts along with your own paper goods and utensils 14. They can supply you with takeout containers for leftover foods for an additional charge OR you can bring your own 15. Natsunoya Tea House is located in Alewa Heights. They have a parking lot but it's "Valet Only" for $8 plus tip. We came here for our cousin's wedding reception. They have only one stall for the men's. I cannot speak for the women's bathroom. But with plenty people there gets to be a long line. Not sure if there are other bathrooms upstairs or downstairs. We were at the ground level. Food is great, though! Parking is valet only for $8 +tip. Find street parking and walk, if can. Also, remember to just wear slippers. You take your shoes off when you get inside so no need wear your special date night shoes. read more

I found out that place is not a good place to plan your party, limited parking and you have to pay for parking, too many restrictions against the customer, a lot of things are Ala Cart you need to pay for the room, food, clean up, service charges, plus tips, too many little add on charges. minimum 25 persons count for buffet, 2.7% credit card charges, you have to leave by 9 pm. Who knew a such a tranquil and traditional Japanese spot could be hidden in the hills of Kalihi. This was my first time attending an event at Natsunoya Tea House - it was a graduation party in the large room on the bottom floor. The first part that struck me was the location and then when I walked in I noticed the employees get to wear kimonos; already I could tell this venue was like nothing else in Hawaii. I also noticed we take off our shoes - very Japanese - but it was definitely something to get used to throughout the night as I walked around the party room. That was just entering the venue, but if you arrive while there's still light out, you are just struck with a wide almost 180 view oh Honolulu. It really made me stop and stare and I already started hoping and praying when would be the next time I come back or what party could I book to enjoy this view again. I noticed there were multiple different parties happening at the same time. I want to definitely shoutout Izah for giving me a place to sit and chatting with me while I was waiting for my family to arrive. You see, since the party I was attending was for my husband's distant family I didn't feel comfortable entering by myself so I just stood and waited outside. Out of the handful of employees greeting guests, only Izah offered me a seat which was very kind of her since I was clearly pregnant as well. She also stayed and kept me company which I really appreciated. The food in the venue was great as well: traditional but also modern Japanese dishes mixed in with some Hawaii culture as well. First of all I wanted to say the service here was excellent if you're planning a banquet party here . Once I got there to set up I had a lots of gifts and coolers, boxes to bring upstairs. The staff helped carry all my things for me which was awesome. The food was excellent I ordered the Buffett banquet menu and there was a lot of food and very delicious. The view is amazing you have a Birds Eye view of Sand island towards the airport area. The room I rented is upstairs and it could probably hold about 30-50 guest . Natsunoya Tea House has been a staple for our family celebrations. This time we were here for my Nieces First Birthday. We arrived at 10am to set up in one of the smaller rooms. They have valet parking for $8 at the time of writing this, or you can find street parking but there isn't much. We asked our server to bring our lunch in at 11 am and they were very prompt. Salads came first, then the rest of the food pretty much came out all at once. Salads 8/10. Your typical mixed greens. One had salmon and the other had mandarins. Great way to start the lunch. Agedashi Tofu 8/10. Flavorful dashi and well cooked tofu. Fried Noodles 7/10. Noodles were the usual local style fried noodles Garlic Chicken and Teri Beef 9/10. My favorite two dishes!!
