This place is great, and cheap as heck. $9 gets you a "medium" sized plate with a protein, veggie, and grain. My boyfriend and I shared two dinners: spare ribs, quinoa and broccoli/carrots/cauliflower, and chicken curry/rice and peas/cabbage. Both were very good. They needed hot sauce, but luckily we had some. We had enough left over for one of us (me) to eat it for lunch the next day. We also got two pieces of bread/cake for breakfast the next day: lemon and banana. Both were great. I've also tried the Jamaican pattie with chicken inside. The outside was tasty (extremely flaky!) but the soy chicken had an oddly sweet and mushy flavor/texture. Not necessarily bad, just not what I expected. I will say that I'd eat there more often if they offered less processed kinds of meat substitutes. I try to avoid processed soy products if I can and stick to simpler stuff like tofu, tempeh, and seitan. So I'm not going to eat there every day. But when I do, it is a delightful treat. It would also be good if they had some kind of sauteed greens as I'm sure they'd be delicious! Juice bar with fresh produce, although probably not organic. Patties are wonderfully spiced- veggie, spinach, "fish". The "fish" was ...different. Love their food! I've never heard of this Jamaican vegan food type, but it has blow me away! Inexpensive and healthy. I've tried their chicken curry bowl, it's now $7. The small is a good portion and fills me up. All their sweet breads are yummy! Gotta try 'em all! Their patties are large as well and worth every penny ($2.50) sort of like a stuffed pastry. Tasty vegetarian food, fair prices and fair portions. I've had each of the vegetarian patties, except soy which they always seem to be out of. Those patties are flavorful. The filling doesn't taste like regular veggie meat. It doesn't taste like seitan or soy. And they have good patty bread, whatever that is. It's not thick patty bread. This is place is great. Where do I start? The homemade vegan baked breads are delicious. The soups are hearty and tasty. The vegetarian dishes satisfy your desire for Caribbean flavor minus the meat. Ackee and Saltfish and breadfruit, a staple dish in Jamaica was unfamiliar to me until I tried it, now I'm sold. Fresh vegetable and fruit smoothies. Quinoa, salads, health products and friendly staff. Where do you go wrong? Even the coffee is good. Oh and the 7 grain porridge is the perfect starter for any morning. This place really sealed the deal for me with great tasting smoothies made with all natural organic ingredients. I had the Kale smoothie but you can actually create your own flavors and combinations (although I see no reason for doing any such thing with choices such as "Get up, Stand up" & "Body Tech" you will have a wide array of selections from the menu). They also serve delicious gluten free treats/pastries and Vegan Kosher ice cream! The zucchini bread is a must! They will have you returning day after day for more! The location is small so not much room for large groups, however the service is very efficient so that it never feels too cramped or overcrowded. It was good for the first time. Will I go back, yes. I ordered the lo mein and a peanut butter and banana shake. Lo mein was good but it had a protein substitute in it which I wasn't expecting. Personally, I'm not a fan of meat alternatives but I can say it was seasoned well and had a good texture. Shake was simple yet awesome. Some people can still screw up something so simple. For such a small place, they get major points for variety. It took 2 vegans and 1 vegetarian quite some time to order. We even had many questions, which the staff were more than happy to patiently answer. For the savory items, it was all about the sauces. Curry "chicken" was a traditional yellow curry, subtle, not in your face. Very pleasant. The citrus "spare ribs" were out of this world. Nice and chewy, coated (not drenched) in a savory/sweet orangey spicy sauce. They were served over quinoa and spelt dumplings, respectively. The dumplings were more balls of bread, which were the perfect vehicle for leftover sauce. Tried some baked goods, too. The carrot bread was outstanding-- perfect mix of traditional autumn spices, and not too sweet. Coconut bread was incredible-- little bits of toasted coconut aplenty. The pumpkin bread, while not as good, still got high marks. One blemish in an otherwise terrific vegan experience was the chocolate chip cookie, which tasted more like a ginger cookie, was a bit dry, and was sparse on the chips. That said, I will be returning soon to try other things, especially ice cream. read more

Found this tasty restaurant thanks to Yelp, and took the majority recommendation on the curry chicken. Excellent! Curry flavor (and lotsa flavor) but not the heat, served with fluffy brown rice/peas and cabbage veggie mix. My husband had Citrus Spare Ribs, sweet bbq style and right on the money! Had a "Digestive Special" juice (carrots, beets, cucumbers and ginger" alongside - fresh, earthy and delicious, . Took away lemon cake and pumpkin bread slices for later - both were tasty but lemon cake, especially, with its lemony intensity was the winner. Lovely staff and cheerful, albeit small space, make this a warm spot on a cold winter's day! read more

The curry chicken is out of this world and you should try the bread they bake daily (only $3 and it's whole grain). My first experience with this place was awful. I ordered a veggie burger to go and they said it would take an hour to make fresh because they were out. They offered me a burrito instead and I asked the lady what was on the burrito she replied "uhh i don't know. Would you like salmon instead?" No I don't want salmon I want my veggie burger. So I decided to wait. An hour and a half passed and I called the place to see what wAs going on. The lady said they were just now making them and she forgot about it. 45 minutes later my smoothie and burger show up. My burger was cold and tasted bad and my smoothie was melted and warm. Like an idiot, I tried again to give them another shot. I order a smoothie and soup. They call and say their delivery man didn't show up today and they aren't doing deliveries and they will refund my purchase. I never got my refund or my food. This place is awful. Delicious premade wraps and sandwiches (sprouts, yves fake meats, vegan rella, etc); vegetarian lasagna (real cheese); lots of muffins and pastries, although only the carrot bread is vegan; really yummy sea moss smoothies; a vegan vegetable bean stew that seems bland at first but always blindsides me half-way in with deliciousness; the soy "pattie" was delicious if a little greasy (good hangover food). A big bowl of stew, a soy "pattie", and a chunk of carrot bread (i.e. more food than you need) runs 7.50. If you're a veggie I don't think you can do better than this place in a 10 block radius. More than one vegan pastry and fresh-made sandwiches would make it 5 stars. read more

Natural Blend is the place I want to go to eat a home-cooked meal away from home! Being dairy-free for about a couple of years, I've had difficulty finding local businesses in Miami (my previous destination) that can provide me with healthy alternatives to meat and dairy, without causing a dent in my bank account. Thankfully, New York has a lot of options for me and I am filled with glee! One day I was taking in the beautiful Brooklyn Botanical Gardens with one of my roommates, who is trying to follow in my vegan footsteps, and we wanted to see what we could find in terms of food through the Yelp app. In my experience, people who are have made a recent change in their eating habits can be a little skeptical of trying new things, but my friend was eager enough that we could agree on Natural Blend. A few days after this first visit, I come to find out there is a location RIGHT ON MY BLOCK. I think what won me over mostly was that they had VEGAN JAMAICAN PATTIES. Did I fail to mention that all the food recipes are Jamaican? They KNOW how to season their foods to the point where you might almost believe you're eating the real thing without wondering, well, you know. I have tried their pepper steak and chicken curry, both served with brown rice and veggies. I've yet to try their smoothies, but in due time, I will come back and tell you all about them. I always keep going back to try all their desserts and have only been slightly disappointed by their Blueberry muffin, which I believe to have upset my stomach due to staleness? Dave, the owner, is probably one of the nicest human beings on earth and his staff is just as friendly and optimistic. I love stopping in there just to chat with him. There juices are fantastic. I especially recommend their protein drink mix. Plus, if you are up for it, the staff will even make you a staff pick -- and help you choose the best drink mix. I was visiting my Daughter here in NY and she took me to her favorite Vegan spot. I am a Southern Girl so I know that people here in NY are very direct and have somewhat hard personalities but I also saw him smile and laugh with customer the 2nd time I came in and so I felt maybe he was just being unkind to me. My Daughter said that he had been rude to her but she liked the food. He said it was a misunderstanding and that he wanted people to be happy and come back. I told the gentleman that I didn't eat soy (tofu) several times and with me being a new visiter I was trying to decide what to eat. I asked to taste the vegetable soup. It tasted good and so I ordered it. When I got to the table the soup had big chucks of tofu in it. He should have told me this when I told him that I don't eat tofu. I don't like complaining so I just drank the liquid. My Daughter ordered a meal for Her and my Son. We spent $38 that night. So I came back the next night to get a Lentil Patty and a Smoothie. They had sold out of the Lentil Patty's so I just got a Smoothie. After he filled my cup I asked him for what was left in the blender, which was a small amount. He told me to drink some out of my cup and he would put it in there. Then when he rang it up my son gave him $10 and he gave him 50 cents back. My Son said how much is the Smoothie and he stated $8 but $1.50 for the extra. You tell People that ahead of time. That was very tacky. Very unhappy with this place. read more
