I was initially impressed with this taste of the food at this place. The staff were incredibly friendly, and the food was delicious. However, I've decided to stop going back because the place feels really dirty. Also, the new staff aren't as efficient as the previous ones. When I first visited, there was a strong odor, and the food was dirty. My partner even found small pieces of hair in her grain and salad bowl. Despite the unpleasant experience, they were very accommodating and remade her dish. The food was still delicious, so we decided to give it another chance. On our second visit, the smell was better, and the food looked cleaner, but we still found hair. The smoothie was great, and the muffin was also tasty. I was excited to try the vegan sandwiches, but they don't have the best vegan options. I wouldn't recommend their vegan tuna melt. On the bright side, their vegan pastries are really good. Last week I ent to downtown Brooklyn for the firts time and met up with a friend. We stopped in Brain Food which I ordered thru the Goodie Bag food app, and I got the honey garlic w salmon bowl to take home. I don't always love salmon but I got it to eat healthy. First things first: This may be the nicest backyard in Brooklyn. Certainly, the most slept on. It's wild how it's decked out with tables, fans, couches, heaters, outlets...it's shaded, but with so much beautiful natural light. There are people eating inside where it's basically a deli, when this gorgeous patio exists out back. I hope I don't regret telling you all this, but check it out. Secondly, the food is healthy-ish, but actually pretty tasty, and affordable. In fact, the meal preps are downright cheap. 4 for $20 for wraps and salads and such? Not sure where else you can get a meal for $5 in this neighborhood. We've had smoothies and wraps and sandwiches and bowls...all good, the portions are very solid, and some of the things, like the turkey melt, are actually straight delicious. They use actual grilled chicken breast on the salads and bowls, and it tastes good (except that one time it was underseasoned). The staff has been pretty cool too; one of the guys split a smoothie for us so I didn't contract whatever plague my kids had that week, and I've never had an issue with anyone. If I have any issue with the place at all, it's just the name, which should probably have been Best Fucking Backyard in Downtown Brooklyn. But that may not fly with some people. Squares. read more

I wrote a review for their other spot accidentally very soon after eating as it was honestly the worst meal I've had in years. My mistake/moving the rest of the review to the proper location. Maybe the one in Bed-stuy is better Using their weird "functionable" kiosk I went with the Greek bowl with roasted eggplant, roasted pepper, grape tomatoes, black olives, chickpea croutons, and medium amount of acai balsamic vinaigrette. My edits were to remove the red onion and regrettably to add jackfruit with my base being vegetable noodles (which turned out to be slivers of vegetables.) No one said anything and the bowl was made. I waited for a bit and after not hearing anything, I went to the takeaway counter where my bowl was there. The cashier noticed and I said that bowl was mine and she handed it over with the bowl being incredibly hot. I asked for it to go as I couldn't carry it from the heat so it was wrapped with foil and put in a bag. After getting back, I noticed an odd smell from the bag (which reminded me of your average vegan hot food area; no offense to vegans,) and I opened it up noticing that their biodegradable bowl was already well degrading from the sheer amount of heat. Everything was very red (presumably from the vinaigrette) and I tried it. The jackfruit was a mushy mess and just like everything else; it tasted like it had been steamed for 30 hours in a salt bath. The only thing good inside was the chickpea croutons (which I assume are the same brand others use) which is probably since they are hard enough that the salad makers there can't butcher it. Everything tasted purely of salt and it was impossible to finish and I threw it away after eating just a little bit. 0.5. Mostly for the cheapish prices but never again. I think the smartest idea for me would be to avoid this place. Just go up the block to Sweetgreen. You pay more but the food is actually good or if you want more local, go to your average good deli and get a chopped salad. Other notes: 1. By the kiosk being "functionable," I mean you have to go through 50,000 things to get to the end with it not asking about drinks. 2. I understand the obsession of health nuts with acai as it tastes good in smoothies and bowls but the dressing her tastes of nothing but salt. 3. A good solid A on the drink selection and prices. 4. I've passed by this place a few times, and I finally decided to check this place out. I wanted something light, and I noticed they had $5 breakfast bowls, which caught my attention. I ended up getting the bacon, egg and avocado breakfast bowl with roasted Cajun sweet potatoes. This has so much potential! The avocados were bad, and the sweet potatoes were undercooked, the were cut in huge chunks and the skin was left on. The turkey bacon and eggs were okay. You can order with a person or they have self serve kiosk where you can order. The prices was very reasonable. I had a sausage egg whites and cheese on a mcmuffin and it was delicious. On a beautiful spring day I walked by this place and saw a huge indoor eating area and coffee bar as well as some nice outdoor friendly seating. I decided to enter as I've walked by a few times but it is between a few stores and is easy to miss. There are a few items for self service that you can just grab and go and there is a vast menu where you can order or request something to be made custom. The staff is friendly and very patient and hard working. It's probably one of the cleanest places I've ever been too and the food quality is great. I've ordered salads, the burrito, and had their vegan cookies as well as protein shakes and smoothies. For a quick healthy bite, a nutritious breakfast, a solid lunch, this place is everything all at once. The food is filling and not salty or full of preservatives, it feels good and healthy and also reasonably priced. You can join a rewards program that enables you to earn free meals as you spend and since everything is so delicious here it's pretty easy to spend! They even have meal prep options so there are pre made meals prepared that you can purchase for the week, order ahead, or just dine in. They also have a full coffee bar and breakfast options all day. Plentiful of snacks available and drinks such as kombucha, green juice, wellness shots, and pretty much every other health branded drink you can think of. On Tuesday, 14 September, I ordered via the Toast app and experienced a major inconvenience. I requested a take-out order, which prompted a banner on the Toast app that cautioned me of my order being unable to process. So I deleted the original food items I had chosen, rechose other food items, and checked them into my cart to complete my order until it was successfully processed. When I got to the Court St location, the issues got worse. I went to the pick-up area and requested my order for "Kim". Upon my request, I was handed what I thought was my order but I checked before crossing the street and it was an order for "Kim S". So I headed back to receive my order. I told the same employee and he handed me an unlabeled brown bag that had one single bowl in it, which I proceeded to tell him was not my order since mine had two items. A bowl and smoothie. He then had me wait a few minutes until he could tell me that in my attempt to order via the Toast app, it processed both orders even though it stated the first order was unsuccessful on my end. So he explains I can have either order since the food wasn't finished. 15 minutes go by since arriving, he comes back and explains that I have to take both orders now since they were both made. However, I arrived on time and was not made aware of this error until 5 minutes before leaving. Upon further inspection, my bowl did not include the correct tomatoes. I asked for sun-dried tomatoes and it was prepared with whole baby tomatoes. Tuesday afternoon, I left with two orders of food and the chips from one of the orders were also missing. This experience was absolutely horrible. I was on an important call while dealing with all these issues when I simply wanted to pick up my food quickly. I am not asking for anything but to have the staff members at your establishment be a bit more diligent and have them call to confirm order changes, possible errors, etc. I realize the Toast app orders are not your fault however the in-person guessing game for which order was correct is absolutely an employee error. It is a shame to have dealt with this the very first time I ordered food online with the business. I had only previously ordered smoothies. Hope this isn't a common occurrence. I walked pass "Brain Food" twice as I was looking to grab a nice breakfast after working overnight. Quick backstory-I was actually headed to another cafe but because of a gas leak I chose to walk around the neighborhood in search of a place to dine-in. When I walked in I was warmly greeted by Yoni who happily made suggestions and described them in great detail. Off bat I noticed Yoni possessed impeccable people skills and professionalism. He also went on to explain how BF was able to stay afloat because of the contributions made by an awesome organization named Rethink. Between hearing Yoni speak of how the humble boss of BF gives back to the commnunity every Wednesday by serving hot meals, the Fugees playing on the speakers, and the relaxing, eye-catching patio I was sold. The dish I enjoyed was the called the Chorizo breakfast bowl. It contained a little kick, chorizo, green peppers onions, sweet potatoes and tofu. It was very flavorful and light. The chef Angel put two hearts into that meal. I will gladly come back to BF. The Wonderful Employees, great food and the ambiance really made my day especially as we continue to battle with the pandemic. I hope BF continues to feel bellies and break the bank(s). read more

He is very attentive to all customers and makes each visit very welcoming. The food is wonderful.
