Wow this store has so many great finds and things I've never even seen before. Ear candles? Interesting.. Walking through the aisles you'll find deals here and there. The staff was helpful and friendly. signing up for rewards was simple and quick which made check out a breeze. The gentleman was helpful and friendly. They even have a separate area for class demos. Check the store schedule for that They have a ton of recycled boxes in the front if you ever need any boxes. I'm glad I stepped foot inside and I know I'll be back again soon! read more

I am very grateful to this Natural Grocers for providing a stress free pandemic shopping experience. Even before the statewide mask mandate, this store was requiring customers to wear masks. As someone with a movement coordination disorder, grocery shopping was difficult even during pre-Covid times. The chill vibe and friendly staff at Natural Grocers make it a better experience. Back in September when I was struggling with opening the green biodegradable bags, a store associate was understanding and gave me tips on how to open them. On Sunday, when I forgot to bring my own bag, the cashier went and got a box for me and placed everything in there. I got to the store 10 minute it before closed and the employees went around asking customers if they could help them find anything. As someone who is gluten free and avoids dairy and sugar, Natural Grocers provides a lot of product options including extensive selection from brands like Simple Mills, Forager, Califa Farms and Forager. While they don't do bulk bins they do have a good selection of bulk items like nuts and oats (although I don't know why some of it is in the refrigerated case). I can even find my Nellies powdered laundry detergent here. All the produce is organic. I feel that the prices and sales are good for the type of products they sell. They have "everyday low prices" for organic eggs and chicken. The product locator on their website is great. I can find out which stores have a specific product -- not just a brand -- without having to make any phone calls. It saved me a visit once for a store that carries Vitanica supplements but not the one I needed. Overall, I have to applaud them for going above and beyond to provide a great shopping experience during the pandemic. read more

Natural grocers is great, albeit expensive. But, we all know that you gotta pay a little more if you want your food and other products to have no poisons in them. Some of my favorite parts: The bulk section: this is your spot for organic grains and spices. Really great prices. Check here before looking in the other aisles. Some of the bulk stuff is in the fridge on the back wall too. The supplements department: if it's natural and maybe a little weird, you'll find it here. 4 aisles of supplements, I believe? The beauty section: lots of natural makeup, soaps, and lotions. Plus the best selection of natural toothpaste I've ever seen. I'm glad this store is close by. Shopped here every week for six years and always had brief but pleasant interactions with staff until a cashier, Yemmanuil, was extremely rude to my wife who is a person of color. He was polite to every other customer he interacted with in line ahead of us, greeting them and thanking them for shopping, but of course didn't greet or thank my wife. Heck, he refused to even look at her. The whole interaction was incredibly strange and unwelcoming. We will not go back because he made us that uncomfortable. read more

Love this store, I left wondering why I was so hesitant to go grocery hunt, thinking it would be another whole paycheck experience. Alarmingly on par with my preferred Freddys conventional and organics and cheaper on a lot of produce. A cook's delight from bulk prepacked ethnic herbs, spices, teas--Irish, Darjeeling mango spice, yellow or brown mustard seed, curry, fenugreek, lavender flowers, slippery elm bark!, catnip for kitty, to give you the non-normal offerings..and then onto fermentation kits n classes, prebagged refrigerated nuts, incl dark choc almonds for $4, szechuan nut mix, and rice, to, golden buffalo wheat flour and bone broth galore! Whoa! 6 aisles of vitamins, Essential oils, incense, natural make-up and, dude grooming. Meat is on the shelves (no butcher).$6 liter Kombuchas and sandwich case and micro for quick bites. Ok time to get me outta here or it will devour the paycheck. The adage of length of time spent in store = $$ spent so true here but a feel good experience vs the daylight robbery of the New & Whole you-know-who chains. Even a free grocery shopper .99c on first visit, so be sure to mention, and surer to take since they are uber eco conscious and don't supply paper or plastic but you can buy more of those shoppers! Natural Grocers does provide a stress free great shopping experience. I have always received friendly and genuine customer service here. They have great produce at reasonable prices. I like the sales and in store specials as well. The health specialist in the back was also excellent. And I have utilized their information files in the back as well. I love that they carry Organic foods. That shows they care about the customers health and well being. And they care about the health of the planet. I like the reusable bags, and recycled boxes if needed. I like the bulk items at great prices. There are always spots to park. The store is a nice size and is not filled with junk like the big guys. The healthy experience tells me the people from the top down are all about providing excellent products and service where the customer is truly King. read more

By far the best health food store that came to Portland. 90% gluten-free, dairy free, all the vitamins and supplements you could ever need! they do demo classes there every Sunday from 3 to 4, teaching you how to cook gluten-free meals they tell you about different supplements how to implement them and use them that you've always wondered how to do. Some items were on sale but for this kind of product anything gluten-free or dairy free you're always going to pay more! yes they are about 1 to 2 bucks more but it's worth it If your kids have allergies or you need gluten-free stuff this is the best place to shop because you don't have to look at the product you don't have to think about it you can go in there and I'll guarantee 95% of the stuff is going to be allergy net free dairy free this is wonderful read more

It felt a little on the spendy side for me, but don't get me wrong, I don't mean more expensive than any healthy place that carries local goods. Very clean and neat, as well as friendly and helpful staff. They have a HUGE selection if you have any dietary needs and I mean ANY! Gluten free, wheat free, meat free, etc. They also have a large selection of vitamins and herbs. I truly did love the selection here! This has quickly become one of my favorite food stores. Produce is beautiful and delicious. Not as much meat, fish, cheese, bulk or prepared foods as New Seasons but prices are far better than there. I'm settling into the habit of splitting most of my shopping between here and at Trader Joe's up the street. I am from California and went to check out this store after hearing good things. I fell in LOVE! I got a free bag for my first time being there. The staff is super nice and helpful. I bought a bunch of vegan "meats" and "cheeses" for way cheaper than at Safeway, TJ's, and Whole Foods. This is the place to go!! They have a ton of amazing foods including all different types of flours and grains and kombuchas. They have yummy premade food and really fresh looking veggies. It's basically a vegan on a budgets dream store! They also have a bunch of herbal supplements. Organic, healthy, love this place!! This is my go-to store for organic quality. The staff really strives to provide good service. There's always new friendly staff learning the ropes, so, patience is necessary. The selection is very good for such a small store, which makes getting in and out a pleasure. When asking supplement questions, some staff are more knowledgeable than others. When I get that person, positive results come from my purchases. No store is perfect but for the price, quality and friendly staff, this is the best around. read more

I just feel like there's something "off" with this place and I can't quite put my finger on it. I love these kinds of stores-I can literally spend hours in a New Seasons or Whole Foods. I'm also a bit of a health conscious person, trying to purchase as many organic, non GMO items I can get my hands on. But this place just doesn't do it for me... Everything here is very, very expensive. I'd prefer to go to Trader Joe's, or even New Seasons over in Happy Valley for high quality and affordable food. There is no way you can get out of Natural Grocers with a bag of groceries for under $35, and that's kind of a shame. This place also doesn't feel welcoming, in a weird way it feels very sterile. I love the bright colors and welcoming signs over at Trader Joe's or New Seasons, but this place seems like I don't really belong. This is me being nit-picky. I also wish that there was a deli/hot food bar. I love that this place promotes eating healthy, but more "grab and go" items would be great. A salad bar would be fun too! I don't think I will be shopping here, especially since there are other nearby groceries that provide the same items but for a lower cost. I hope that Natural Grocers continues to prosper, but with expensive prices right off of 82nd Ave, I wonder how long they will stay in business. read more

I live in Happy Valley, on Mt. Scott, the side that looks down upon 82nd Ave, so this place is quite convenient to my locale. Until this place went in, I would buy most of my natural foods at the Johnson Creek Fred Meyer, or for any harder-to-find products, venture over the the New Seasons off of Sunnyside Rd. Needless to say, this little grocery store called Natural Grocers has taken a chunk of their business! I'm a vegan, so finding my non-dairy, non-meat alternatives is paramount. Now, some reviewers were comparing it directly to New Seasons, which is a bit unfair. I say, don't compare this store to something it's not even *trying* to be. This is a smaller grocery chain, already established in other areas (look 'em up at their website) and their size, format, and product selection are aimed at being smaller but having a large vitamin selection, etc. Like another reviewer said, they do not have any fresh meat (which I don't care about, being vegan) and they don't have a deli, which is something I would take advantage of if it were there, but they're just not that big of a store. (I love the deli at New Seasons, though, so there's a slice of business that New Seasons will not lose from me!) As far as pricing goes, this store has shockingly competitive pricing on many products. For example, I use the Tofutti sour cream alternative, and at Fred Meyer, they have the kind with the hydrogenated oils for I think $3.29 or $3.69, can't recall..but I know it's over $3! At Natural Grocers, they have the same product, but in the non-hydrogenated version, for $2.89! Just one example of many. They also have a great selection of store-branded generic packaged tems like quinoa, beans, nuts, and other staples at a low cost. These items, I imagine, are as an alternative to an open bulk foods section, but it works for me. Their prouduce selection is small but decent, but not as competitive in pricing for all items, being that the stuff's organic. Also, their vitamin section is awesome, having really looked at it for the first time the other day. I couldn't find something, and a helpful employee guided me to what I needed. If you pick and choose what you buy at this store, you can come out saving money from the competitors. I usually supplement my trips to Fred Meyer with this store, as well. read more

This is a ghetto new seasons, but there are a few products worth it for the price. For example dry goods like Call of the Wild pet food and Kind Bars. Also they had my Bionature pasta from Italy that Cooks Illustrated touts and I have only been able to order on Amazon. The downsides - small, wilty veggie sections and no butcher and few meats just packaged in plastic. It's not welcoming as a converted goodwill store either. It's like grocery outlet, but more expensive. I combed the entire store and like I said found a few key items in the dry sections if dietary needs. Then on the other hand the Kashi cereal was a $1 more than trader joes. read more

This company is amazing in Colorado but unfortunately I guess higher ups don't come out here enough to keep these stores in check. One of the most dirty stores I've ever been in with labels that are literally yellowing with how old they are. At a glance you might not notice how dirty it is but as soon as got start looking closer you will see how filthy it is. Staff is mismanaged, always over worked and under staffed. No wonder the place is a mess. The produce department consistently has rotten, moldy produce that is constantly empty. I was extremely excited to have a new health market open in an area where there are no others nearby but when I got a chance to visit, I was incredibly disappointed. I perused every aisle, taking in prices, comparing values, sighting inventory, but I found it lacking in every department. Limited and underwhelming produce section, limited cold food/deli options. Nonexistent bulk section. What?? A health market with no bulk area?? I asked just to be sure and the cashier seemed embarrassed, as if she knew it was a major miss on their part as well. The one thing that did seem to be nicely stocked and attractively arranged was the pharmaceutical and medicinal area, which is the one thing I don't care about seeing as how I'd rather get my nutrients from the source instead of from tinctures and bottles. Overall, not worth another visit-- not when you can get the same value and much better selections at Bob's Red Mill and Freddy's. read more

I called to ask a question and a very unprofessional "grocery manager" by the name of Janet hung up on me mid sentence, because I was asking about placing a bulk order over the phone. Bummed So I like to support the smaller companies and Natural Grocers is smaller than whole foods and even new seasons. But today, again, the prices rang up wrong and of course in their favor. This has happened EVERYTIME I've been there. When informing the cashier they are indifferent. They call a price check and while I don't go back to check, I am SURE they don't fix it in their system everytime ... meaning other people are overcharged too. Everytime is a problem. The staff are not as friendly as other people say but I always put that on the owners and management. If the employees are unhappy it's on the employer. Their stock is also terrible. I mean what they have in stock. I always kind of wonder if they are going out of business or something -- i.e., don't have enough cash flow to keep the inventory up. Today they were out of literally 10 products I would have purchased -- most on sale of course. Even when I do buy a product there are often only two or three left. When I mentioned all the stuff they were out of to an employee I asked when their next shipment came in and she said tomorrow (I was shopping in morning.) so out of tons of stuff and not getting stock in for 24 hours. Get it together if you don't want to go out of business I hope the owners and management read this. I'd like them to be a store I frequent. Some of the products ARE cheaper than elsewhere. Love this store!! I wish it were bigger - but what they have is great and always well-priced compared to other local stores that carry the same products. I wish they carried grass-fed meats that were fresh, but I get that you'd need a meat counter and more space for that. I love that N.G. carry only organic veggies. The prices are a lot lower, too!!! They don't offer to bag your groceries - so that kind of blows - especially since I have 2 little kids - it makes it really hard to bag AND keep my kids in check!! You also have to B.Y.O.B. (bring your own bags)...Which I always forget - it's hard enough to remember the 2 kids let alone all my bags!!! Anyhow, the staff is nice and always friendly!!! I go here every week. I am so thankful for this store and the location it's in. Wanted to especially remark that Sarah is the best checker. She has the biggest smile anytime someone talks to her and is genuine and kind. Today my four year old was trying to "help" unload the cart and accidentally threw a bag of chips, hitting Sarah in the face. I felt awful but Sarah was so sweet and shrugged it off and joked with my daughter. I was very impressed with her graciousness. I have meant to comment before this, regarding her excellent customer service, but this occasion helped me to remember to finally comment! We regularly go to New Seasons and I found several products for much cheaper at Natural Grocers. Yogurt and kombucha in particular. Having gone to the old Goodwill that used to be housed here quite often when I was young, I still feel that vibe here. It's a good addition to the neighborhood. However, all locations are somewhat inaccessible to me being an inner city dweller. We shall see what comes of the newest development plans. Will come here when in the neighborhood if needing to stock up on what I know is good there, but it can't really do much for me due to location (this one being the closest to me). Also, while it would be great if meat was never frozen, at all smaller operations or those simply focused on more plant based eating, it just is. Farmer's markets and co-ops barely ever have anything just in the fridge. Volume, ya know? Plus bigger retailers have all kinds of tricks to make you think it's fresh off the animal but that's just not realistic. read more

This store has a very good selection of many healthy food options. Especially for the Paleo eater. Which in Portland is hard to come by. The prices are often less than other stores, even when comparing their organic produce to the other guys GMO 'food'. The staff is awesome. They have ordered and stocked many hard to find products for me. They are nice people. Plus there is always a fun class to attended every week on all kinds of topics. They have a few parties throughout the year, founders party the best. Hell, I won a bicycle from one event. There is often vendors giving out free samples. Now existing in the shell of the former Goodwill building on 82nd, is a Grocery that brings to mind a perfect blend of "Sheridan's Market" & "New Seasons". The interior is completely redone and has a very inviting atmosphere as well as an amazing selection of health conscious foods, Bulk herbs, Bulk foods, and a surprising amount of Gluten Free options! There's also a vast selection of Bison meat, as well as meat alternatives. The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. There is also a selection of herbal remedies that rivals aforementioned New Seasons. They gave us flyers promoting a starting lineup for free nutrition classes they will be holding in the "kitchen demo" area of the store. Be sure to bring your own bag, as this is a bag free grocery store (but they do have recycled boxes if you forget). With slightly more affordable prices than its health food grocery competitors, this is definitely a place I see myself going often. They are going to need a bigger parking lot, that's for sure! read more

I know that all cashiers have bad days. My husband got eggs here putting in his customer number. The cashier messed up the transaction and re-did it without including our customer number the second time. He didn't realize that they had overcharged him until he got home. We contacted the store soon afterward and the store will not adjust the transaction to make this right. They advertise a certain price, but won't honor it for members. They also sold us a moldy discount yogurt, so we were overcharged almost $10. This place is a waste of time and money. If you want quality goods and services and decent customer service when a mistake is made by an employee on your transaction, I suggest you go elsewhere. We will not be back. read more
