This place is smaller, but they've got such an incredible selection of just about everything you would need. If you've ever been to New Seasons, you'll find just about everything they have at Natural Grocers. Thing is, they actually have better prices than most of the retailer that I shop at! I normally pick up my fish oil and other vitamins/supplements at Super Supplements down the street - but after seeing both the quality and prices that Natural Grocers has, I'll be going to Natural Grocers from now on! read more

Just moved into the area from close in SE where I was spoiled by Whole Foods, New Seasons and Zupan's all with in walking distance. Was hoping this new place would calm my longing for the old haunts. It was an excellent remodel and the store is bright with plenty of room and parking is adequate. I was disappointed (really, really since I work so much I don't cook) that they didn't have a deli or salad bar or anything even close and no plans for it. This is the same problem I have with Trader Joe's which isn't too far away. I am sure I will find something to eat there and i will go back when I am more prepared and not starving and want something cooked on site that I can take to go. Like this store, I follow the wheat belly/paleo program and find a lot of great products to bake with, I also love the packaged bulk spices/nut flours and nuts. I gave 4 stars because I wish they would expand their meat selection. If there were more choices wouldn't have to go to Fred Meyer for groceries at all. read more

We saw the place go into an old Goodwill building and didn't quite know what to expect, hat we found was an amazing natural grocer, friendly and helpful staff everywhere,good solid products and they even special ordered my wife's favorite chocolate.. read more

Great place for a no-nonsense shopping experience. The staff are there when you need them, but unobtrusive. The selection is very good in most areas, particularly organic produce, cereal, drinks, ready-made dinner meals and lunch items. No bags, instead they offer cardboard boxes, which of course are brilliantly re-useable. This is clearly a well-run store, and the employees appear to enjoy their work. Always a good sign. read more

Good selection of fresh organic produce, organic canned goods and a nice selection of health foods as well as vegetarian and vegan choices. Their customer service is seriously lacking. I've gone in a few times and every time the checker seems burdened by customers being there. No "hello how are you", nothing....just the bare minimum. My receipt got destroyed by the rain and spend over 30 minutes looking for it in my car. I bought two products that didn't agree with my skin. I am a valued customer and spend hundreds a month in this store. I was nothing but respectful and the manager accused me of going through trash looking for that receipt. She said I had no proof, when her employee was standing next to her remembering my exact order and the price. She could of even looked up my receipt with my phone number, but said she had no time, when there was not a single person behind me in line. The product she sold me was about to expire. She treated like trash instead of a human being. read more

Great prices, terrible staff. The staff all look tired, depressed, and in a daze. People all talk about "something being off" or "feeling weird" at the store. It's the staff. They're nice people, don't get me wrong, but they all seem depressed and run-down. Maybe it's the paleo thing they push so much? It's really funny. Even their "certified nutritionist" has belly fat and looks so tired and depressed. Maybe it's something in the water...or maybe it's the paleo thing. Natural Grocer had a good idea. They could be huge if they re-worked some things. Their prices put Whole Foods and New Seasons to shame, which is why I shop there. They need to work on re-doing their stores, getting a bulk department, work on the layout of the store, making it more like WF and NS, training staff, and educating staff (the cashier didn't know what kombucha was....at a health food store!) They have a huge vitamin section, with decent prices. I didn't realize why the vitamin section was so big, then it hit me. They endorse the paleo diet, so it makes sense they need to push a lot of the vitamins and supplements. They have a kitchen/demo area which is always empty. I hear they often have paleo cooking classes there. In summary, they have great prices, but that's it. It's such a shame, because they could take over the natural food scene if they just changed their stores and staff. One of the things I love about them is their commitment to nature. They're not like New Seasons. New Seasons sells the crap, the coke and doritos. They just want to make money, so they appeal to whatever will make them the most money. At holidays, New Seasons markets the heck out of candy and sweets. They lack backbone. At least Whole Foods and Natural Grocers won't sell the artificial sweeteners (linked to cancer), artificial preservatives, and other crap. Natural Grocer's produce department is 100% organic, which is great. At New Seasons, you're always over-paying for conventional stuff you can get at Safeway for a fraction of the cost. read more

What a lovely energy this place has. The staff was friendly, the produce was great, selection was wide, and no more expensive than any other hippie supermarket. It was my first visit and they gave me a free reusable bag. I'll definitely go back and recommend them to anyone looking for some good stuff to ingest. read more

We normally shop at New Seasons, Whole Foods and farmers markets because we eat only organic. non-GMO, wheat free food. Natural Grocers is now on our list, and is our go-to store for last minute needs because it is so convenient. The prices are great. Staff very friendly and helpful, and the store is neat as a pin. I just used their bottle redemption machine, and it was fantastic. One machine handled glass and plastic bottles ( no cans on this run), and it worked perfectly! We were first drawn in by a freebie bag of almonds, but stayed to browse and came back again. Wide selection, healthy food, great prices. Who could ask for more? read more

Just came home from this store. Made a special trip to pickup some SALE ITEMS. Got there and they were out of 2 of the SALE ITEMS, asked them to SUB another brand and their Policy is to NEVER SUB or EVEN A RAINCHECK! I was appalled. I've never been in a store that doesn't TAKE CARE OF THE CUSTOMER! SAD, I left my other items with the cashier and BOUGHT NOTHING, they can KEEP all of it. I will NEVER be back to this store. I thought I was doing them a favor, because they don't have that many people shop their. I would NEVER recommend this store to ANYONE! Fred Meyer has nice Organic products now. and they put the CUSTOMER FIRST ALWAYS! The area is a very sketchy area, your lucky if your car is still in the parking lot, when you come out or hasn't been broke into. What an AWFUL POLICY they have! read more

Excellent selection of the usual natural food co-op type items. I like that they only have organic produce and I don't have to examine labels and hunt around for the actual organic stuff. The watermelon I got last week was super sweet, better than the 10 or so I tried at other places last year. Overall, prices comparable to or cheaper than New Seasons. No bulk bins here, instead there are lots of pre-bagged bulk items which are a lot cheaper than the ridiculously priced bulk bin goods in other stores. Only suggestion would be to better vett the pre-made burritos and sandwiches and only stock the best. Those I've tried here were a 3 out of 10 and I'm not inclined to try my luck any further. read more

This store is one of my faves - their selection is great, the prices are totally fair. Some things are $1-5 cheaper than they would be at Fred Meyers and New Seasons. This is where I get our produce. They could improve upon their stock by adding a fresh deli someday. I enjoy looking through their vitamins, bulk, personal care items. I tell people to go there often. However, I took off a star because the service leaves something to be desired - one person in particular: gal with long reddish hair and glasses. I made a comment about how "I like the store, wish more people came in here!" and she said absolutely nothing. The checkout process might as well have been performed by a bot. She was a grown woman, and she acted like a teenager at a summer job. The other workers I've encountered are pleasant and helpful. read more

Everyone who works here is fabulous! They are quick to respond, happy to help and cheerful to everyone. I've had multiple conversations with the clerks and they are very knowledgeable about the goods they carry. When they are not sure about something they are happy to point you to the right source. Everything here is fresh and they do their best to keep prices reasonable. The sales are frequent and fair. If they do not carry something you need and you are a regular customer, they are happy to start carrying that specific item if possible. I highly recommend! read more

We just moved over to the east side and have been shopping at the Beaverton location. We really liked the Beaverton store, but this store doesn't have a lot of the merchandise that the Beaverton store has. My son has celiac disease and is a vegetarian, which means that it's very difficult for me to find options. Also, the employees aren't as friendly over here; not rude, just aloof. My husband still works in Beaverton, so I'll probably have him do the shopping over there. read more

This store has good prices which I was surprised about and also carries a few hard to find items like fresh organic pineapple. One thing I don't like is that they don't have a bulk section, everything is prepackaged so you can't buy small amounts. read more

Since I wrote this review, I've noticed that the cashiers have been more friendly and personable. I don't know if the staff at Natural Grocer's saw my initial review, but I commend them for improving in this area. Overall inventory seems to be better as well, but is not consistent in all areas. I still wonder about customer service when it comes to special orders or items out of stock. read more

In the words of Steven King, 'it's not something that's there, it's something that's missing. What's missing is the baby rattle over the crib. The bright lights and music and all the sugar laden crud that's in much of the food at Whole Foods and New Seasons. It I hear one more whiny female vocalist I think I'll start pulling my hair out and run screaming down the street. Everything at these stores is designed to pull you in, trip you up and make you buy; just like in the 'regular' stores. This is the first real health food store to come to Portland since New Seasons plunked it's big ass butt down on the spot where Daily Grind was on Hawthorne. Real health food stores aren't perfect, but they're a hell of alot better than the corporations in the guise of health food places. That 'smell' is what real food smells like without the evil. Welcome to reality. This is just the beginning of the revolution to re humanize our world and take back our lives from the corporations. read more
