Chicken satay was good and I haven't had a breaded version before so that was a tasty surprise. I really love peanut sauce so I do wish there was more of that. The chicken panang curry was interesting. It wasn't as creamy and had lots of additional vegetables that I don't usually see in panang curry. The curry was also a bit more liquidy and had a soup consistency rather than a curry. I prefer a creamier, thicker, coconut milk flavored panang curry but this one is more chili forward. There was also not enough curry. It really resembled vegetables with sauce rather than a curry with vegetables in it if that makes sense. The service was also a little hectic as they were busy. I got served the wrong curry and found it was actually switched with the people next to us so the waiter just switched the plates. Thankfully neither of us had touched the food but their food got brought out before ours so it was still on their table for a little bit. read more

I LOVE Thai food & wanted to love the food here. My mom raved about the food being good and wanting to go check it out. She specifically said the Thai Fried Rice was good. We ordered the Thai fried rice w/ chicken as the protein, cream cheese wontons and chicken wings. I didn't care for any of it. The flavor was lacking on the fried rice, pretty bland. Even with a spice rack it wasn't that great. The wontons were okay but it was $11 for 5 of them and they were just cream cheese in a thick wrappper. Chicken wings were served with a sweet and sour type sauce. Also bland. The menu seemed solid & maybe the flavor is elsewhere like the curry or other dishes. They had some featured drinks on the board, otherwise it's mostly wine. I tried to order the sake mojito but they were out. We went shortly after they opened, it was empty when we got there but a few more people came in as time went on. Our waiter was Amazing. Very attentive and nice. Naviya's has been on my list to try for quite some time, and I'm glad I finally did! I had the cream cheese wontons and rama curry/stir fry at a level 4 spice. This was the perfect meal. Swung by for lunch this week and really enjoyed our visit! There is free street parking which is great and they also have a small lot but it does fill up quickly with the other businesses as well. We got the holy basil which was super delicious, and we added tofu for some protein. The portion was good but the price is a little bit high at $21. It's a cute area so you could definitely walk around after dinner or go brows the shops beforehand. Lots of great vegan and vegetarian options as well! Naviya's is really outstanding. There is so much flavor from the fresh herbs, the vegetables are always cooked perfectly. I wish it was closer to our house- I would order it all the time. Ordered spring rolls and red curry with beef. The spring rolls were delicious- fresh and stuffed well, with a delcicious dipping sauce. The Panang curry was sensational- loads of fresh veg (often curries don't have enough veg in my opinion), beef wasn't overcooked, lots of layered and robust flavor. Portion size was great. Naviya's has been highly recommended by my coworkers, and it did not disappoint! We went with the Sweet Basil Fried Rice, Red Curry with Tofu, and Spicy Noodles. All the food was delicious, but my favorite was the fried rice. It was so flavorful and yummy. I would highly recommend. We arrived around 7 pm and the restaurant was quiet with just a few tables. We got seated right away and got our food quickly after ordering. Also, it is luckily located just a few blocks away from Sebastian Joe's for an ice cream dessert. It's a wonderful pairing! Have always been a big fan of Naviya's noodle based dishes--fresh and loaded with veggies and herbs, and a couple of the curries--NOT the bland musaman. The dishes with seafood, including the shrimp spring rolls, scare me. The freshness is off by a day or two each time I try them. The cod based protein has a wang to it--or at least it did when we went. My son was afraid to eat it. I know Minneapolis is far from the coast--but if you can't serve it super fresh, just don't. *The other thing is their service. We drove across town to order a small carry out because we were unable to order online. We thought their system was down. The guy at the counter would not take our order--1 spicey noodle--because he said it was only 15 minutes until they closed. I explained we had been trying to order for a while online and that we had driven across town--but he said they had been too busy and TURNED THE SYSTEM OFF--and just stared at me, offering nothing. At some point there will be another mediocre thai place in south minneapolis and maybe Naviya's will stop taking their customers forgranted. My mom likes Thai food so we decided to try this hip place with my grandma. My grandma is in her 90's and was worried about parking, but we found a spot right across the street easy peasy. Went in and it is very trendy. Green walls, neon sign, and plants hanging from an exposed ceiling. One guy was working everything front of house, but luckily it wasn't too busy. Ordered some spring rolls, chicken satay, beef fried rice, and chicken pad thai. The spring rolls were okay, but the satay was EXCELLENT. Crispy and prepared in a way that I have never had at any other Thai restaurant. An absolute must!! The pad thai was hearty and my grandmother's favorite of the meal. She loves noodles just like her grandson. They gave us chicken instead of beef for the fried rice which was kinda annoying. Waiter was running around busy so couldn't tell him and my mom was hungry. She was zoned out due to surviving a family reunion and started scooping rice onto her plate. I can understand why because the rice was really yummy and looked it too. The women at the table did not like the little sharing plates with the shallow lips. They thought it was hard to eat off of. I didn't mind. I'm young and like to work for my food. Also, the plates are similar to something my wife would buy. At the end of our meal I told the waiter about the rice and he apologized. Luckily chicken costs the same as beef here so there wasn't a price issue. My mom, who was pretty out of it due to her dog passing away recently, also dropped her water glass shattering it on the ground and the waiter seemed pretty unfazed saying "those glasses break all the time". I'm curious if they actually break a bunch or if he just said that to make my mom feel better. Regardless, if I lived in the area I would be back. I'm sure my grandma will be. She'll probably order pick up which is what most Thai restaurants deal with these days. Please for the love of Paul Bunyan eat HERE or another small business instead of Panda Express or Leeann Chin. read more

I truly enjoy good Thai food and only have this one visit in which to make a judgment, but based on this one visit I will definitely be back! Check the hours before going though because, strangely, they don't open for lunch until 12. Thankfully, I arrived at 1215. I was seated immediately, offered water and submitted my order within the first couple minutes. The food arrived quickly and was still steaming hot with a wonderful presentation and perfect amount of spice. I chose the MEDIUM level of spice (level 3) but they offer several hotter options, including "Thai hot". The serving size was more generous than I would have expected but it was so delicious I ate every bite. I set my credit card in the table upon completion of my meal and it was retrieved and processed quickly -- enabling me to finish my entire lunch in less than 20 minutes from arrival to departure. There was no rush and i didn't feel pressured, but it was nice to know they could process my order so quickly. I will definitely be back to try the green curry next! read more

We had a lovely evening dining at this Linden Hills restaurant. The space is clean and open, and the service was helpful and cheerful. Our server answered all of our questions and made helpful suggestions. We started with the lettuce wraps, which were the perfect summer bite--light and refreshing, the different tastes and textures were united by a tasty sweet, salty, and tart sauce. Mom loved loved the crispy fried rice noodles so much she ate them by the handful. Mom really loved the massaman curry. It was sweet, smooth, and rich. The cinnamon came through clearly, and the carrots and potatoes were cooked to tender perfection. Mom adored the sauce. I was blown away by my Panang curry as well. The veggies were wok-charred, which was a surprising and absolutely delicious complement to the tongue-tingling spice of the curry. I'd never had this style of curry with a thick sauce that coated the other ingredients, but it worked really well here. We finished up with the mango and sticky rice, which is always a treat. I don't what magical store sells the Perfect Mangos that they used, but I wish I did--this dessert was a real treat! The portions are generous enough that you can take home another meal with your leftovers, and the menu had enough options to appeal to many dietary and taste preferences. Meh. This whole experience was just fine. The spring rolls were delicious. The pad Thai was decent. For a Thai place, I was expecting everything to be more flavorful. It was still good, but my golden standard for Thai food in the twin cities is Thai Table: this didn't hold up in comparison. The service was disappointing, especially given the neighborhood it's in. I'm not one who's bothered by not having 'friendly' service as long as they're still attentive. It felt like they were trying to get us out as fast as they could (we got there at 7:30, they close at 9, we only sat for maybe 45 mins) while also not being at the table when we needed them to be? It was weird service. The space itself is nice. They've got patio seating which I imagine can be nice in the summer, but they're unfortunately backed up to some pretty major road construction at the moment. I can find good spring rolls elsewhere so this one won't be a place I return to. read more

Holy WOW, this place is hands down AMAZING!! My husband and I visited here for date night and neither of us had heard of it before. I came across it on Yelp and it seemed like it had really great reviews so we figured we'd try it. I called to see if I needed to make reservations but they don't do reservations for tables under 4 people. They do have indoor and outdoor seating though, so keep that in mind for when you plan a visit. After spending some time looking at the menu we ordered a starter: Fresh Shrimp & Chicken Spring Rolls. They are gluten free and include Lettuce, carrot, basil, cucumber, rice noodle, shrimp, chicken, rice paper. Def a 10/10 on these, so good!! After our starter I ordered my main entree: Ginger Garlic Hot Plate which included Ginger, carrot, broccoli, red pepper, cauliflower, pea pod, zucchini, onion, garlic, cilantro, and green onion. I also requested to add a Protein: Natural Chicken. Hands down amazing - lots of fresh veggies, rice on the side and chicken cooked to perfection!! My husband ordered: Red Curry, which is gluten free and inckudes red curry paste, coconut milk, onion, red pepper, lime leaf, cauliflower, zucchini, pea pod, bamboo shoots, basil. He too asked for a protein: Wild Cod and requested that it be deep fried. HOLY AMAZING! When I go back I'm definitely getting this dish - the textures and flavors amazing, the curry was like none I've had before and how they lightly deep fried the Wild Cod brought the seafood flavor out especially. This too was served with rice on the side. When we left, we were full from the amazing veggies and protein. My husband and I can't wait to stop back here again soon ... I arrived on a super chilly Halloween evening to an empty spot. I was warmly welcomed and asked to sir wherever. I took a seat and checked out their menu, which had a diverse mix of curries, rice, appetizers, and other entrees. I was a little overwhelmed, so the waiter told me to try the green curry with chicken. I'm so glad I tried this as the curry was so delicious. It came out pipping hot and with medium spice. It made my lips tingle just enough, but not to the point of discomfort. I added the white rice that came on the side and chowed down. Every bite was satisfying, and I could not get enough. I'm so happy that curry makes great leftovers as I was able to save it and savor it later. Definitely recommend this wonderful neighborhood gem!
