As a MediCal patient I am thankful that I am even afforded dental care. I am a patient of Dr Kim at the Skyway clinic in Paradise but she doesn't do crowns so I was given a list of four Chico offices to contact for a crown. Three declined me due to being a MediCal recipient. Dr Tatla took my insurance. Dental staff are all very friendly, Dr Tatla not so much. As I waited for my prep for the crown he walked in picked up the silver syringe and tried to put it in my mouth without any numbing prep which scared me and I grabbed the chair and held on as he made me open wide and almost painlessly did a nerve block with just a couple of injections. I told him loudly he scared me but it didn't really hurt. It was very scary because no one ever gave me Novocain like that standing over me as I sat upright not already numb. Anyway it wasn't fun but I do appreciate his accepting me and my crown is beautiful and a perfect match. I don't think I would have gone had I read the reviews first so I'm glad I didn't and it's over. Well, I gave a good review on my first visit, but this doctor takes way too long to get approvals and done by a female dentist, but it hurt she didn't know me, but my sister went to him, and she swear he was evil, and I called after my root canal was done because I was in so much pain and nobody would get back with me. I don't want to go back to this dentist. I'm going to find another one. Also, it was very dirty and they don't even answer the phone. It rings and rings forever today. I'm trying trying to call back and I can't get a hold of him. It says this cellular user is not available. What kind of business does that maybe he didn't even pay it phone bill and one of the workers slipped and told me that he didn't even have his credentials to give out prescriptions for pain pills he was just getting it still so I don't even think he's 100% legal. I would not advise going back or even going to this Dentist I'm gonna get back in touch with the gentleman who left a long review. Please read Dr Tutla reviews on 35 of them there's only two good ones from males all the females had the same experience I did he swears at you he has fits of anger he told me specifically when he walked in the room the first time and ask me why I was shaking as it proceeded to tell him why two words into it he walked out of the room I waited it in the dentist chair for 2 hours before he saw me I had to have eight teeth extracted he numbed supposedly the top of my mouth the bottom of my mouth I wasn't numb yet I have a gene called the red-headed Gene that makes it a lot harder to numb somebody with it. He didn't want to hear it he said if I give him a hard time he'll give me one ! Then walked out of the room. He came back shot me up again five more times everywhere I kept telling him I'm not numb on my lower left side only on the lower right side . He still tried to dig them out with a pick ! He threw his syringe down and told me that I was being a drama queen and he didn't need my b******* " he didn't use any pulling devices he went with a pic for everything went underneath the tooth and dug them out I handled the right side on the bottom that was numb with out even a squeek out of me and I thought that showed him I wasn't just being a sissy. But even after telling him that the left lower side was not numb at all he persisted to tell me that I didn't know what I was talking about started to dig!! even after showing him that I know the difference between numb and not numb and continued to start on the left lower side .as they were holding me down I was screaming for him to stop and he still proceeded ! I was screaming and crying for him to stop, but he wouldn't stop I passed out from the pain when I woke up the assistant who was very sweet and obviously scared of himand was shaking herself was wiping the blood off of my face when I came to was wiping the blood off of my face told me to quickly to put my upper parshals in that I had already had prior to going to this dentist and Rushed me quickly out to the lobby where my fiance was. I did not see him at all after . He just disappeared and he didn't give me any aftercare info at all no one did..so my fiance got me home iI was in shock and in pain and bleeding so much he went back and had a word with him. he backpeddled when my fiance said Julie is my fiance when he realized who my fiance was to me he said oh you know where I live oh you know my phone number you know my family and realized what he had done .. I cannot say enough good about Dr. Tatla and his staff. I had to have quite a bit of dental work including root canals and crowns. Doctor Tatla is an exception person and a great dental specialist. He is kind and funny and was always friendly with me. His work is first rate. His assistants were all friendly, hard working and efficient. To start I was a patient 6 years ago. It started off well when he was at the other clinic office, but over the years it has be very rough. He says he does root canals but then says "oh you're not taking care of it" , " oh I don't have the right tools to preform it correctly". I'm telling you go to another dentist that accepts medical or your insurance.. he has pulled a total of 6 teeth. And my most recent was a filling he filled on the molar and it fell apart. I called in because of a denial from medical saying that I have an infection and need antibiotics. I called in to tell them that and the receptionist told me the system was down and to call back in two weeks which I did later and then she told me that we need to do a root canal. This office contradicts itself and should be reviewed by the dental medical board. Yes I have had poor dental choices but this place made it worse. I paid 1,100$ for a partial denture that doesn't fit properly and don't get me started on the upper partial that medical paid for. And now I can't get service for a couple of years because of that. He uses way to much lidocaine for procedures has other dental people work on you mouth, speaks another language when in front of his patients and does not discuss procedures with you before hand and then changes what he does without consent. I had work done 4 years ago and I know he damaged a dental implant I had and it proceeded to fall out 3 years later. Dental implants are permanent!!! Now I look like a jack o lantern lol. I SHOULD HAVE TRUSTED THE TWO STAR RATING! Navtej Tatla is, by far, the most confrontational dentist I have ever met.  First visit was fine, long wait, but was seen within 30 minutes of my appointment. I had x-rays done with no trouble billing/communicating with Partnership for coverage confirmation. Two weeks later, when arriving for my scheduled cleaning at 8:30 AM, I am taken back and put in a room with a bib as if they were getting ready to perform the cleaning. I waited for the dentist who was talking to someone right behind my chair. I notice him approaching as he asked "what can I help you with?" I was very confused and said "I am here for a cleaning."; assuming he would have known by looking at my chart or even appointment description within their scheduling calendar.  He then asked how long it has been and I said "awhile". He left and came back saying, "we are having issues with the system because Partnership has partnered with Delta and we cannot access the system that allows us to see when your last cleaning was."  He told me I could pay out of pocket for the service, but I declined. He proceeded to get the receptionist who seated me, who came to me with a clipboard in hand (for who knows what?) and explained they cannot perform the cleaning until they verify it has been over one year since my last. I assured her it has been far longer than that, not willingly, and could confirm with my last dentist if that was sufficient. (Of Course, they were closed, so I couldn't verify with them).  I ended up leaving without the service, because:  1) Tatla was rude, and I refuse to let someone perform work on me of any type that does not have my best interest in mind.  & 2) As an office who handles billing internally, you should have taken the initiative to wait on hold with MediCal Dental of California and confirmed that I, indeed, have not had a recent cleaning, as I just did with the helpful woman who filed my grievance. If I could give no stars I would. Dr. Tatla is incredibly unprofessional and his office is a disorganized mess. He kept making sexist remarks to one of his nurses telling her that because she is a woman she shouldn't drive the car she drives. On my first appointment, his assistant who took the x-rays, decided it was a great time to practice his own diagnosis skills and tried to tell me what was wrong before I ever saw the doctor. Maybe I don't know enough about the dental world, but should a dental assistant be giving a diagnosis? Their front desk receptionist is so disorganized. Every time I have gone to the office is a disaster and she can never find my paperwork even when I had preset appointments and then is super rude to me because she can't find anything! Let Me start by saying the place is super clean and comfortable, The receptionist is really really nice and helpful, The dental assistants are highly skilled and knowledgeable and treated Me wonderful. Worst dentist I was scheduled for a root canal he told me to open my mouth and shoved a big needle in it didn't worn me I started progressively shaking in a panic attack he started working on my mouth didn't even let it get numb and I could feel everything I started raising my hand to let him know I could feel it. My most recent visit was a crown he didn't numb my mouth for the process stated halfway through it sometimes we numb peoples mouths if they can handle it. Wow. Just read through these reviews and I can assure you it is all true. Betty, the front manager has hung up on me, the clinic has tried to charge us more than 700, and when we called and questioned, they said it was a computer malfunction. However, they sent a bill a few months later for the same. I don't know if they expect people to just pay without checking on insurance... maybe they make money this way? Either way, Its been a nightmare. I don't trust them with my mouth or my money. Dr. Tatla is extremely rough and it is very painful to get work done by him. I went to this dentist and had a very negative experience. Before I had even gone to the back for the procedure I was getting he called me a fat elephant in his language assuming I didn't understand what he was saying. The Dr (and I say that loosely) has dirty offices, he was rude to myself and his staff, and had the worst bed side manner and was so rough that my mouth was bleeding everywhere. I actually really liked this place- reminded me of the type of place I went to as a kid. Big windows to stare out of when in the chair. Small, locally owned business. Not compared to last year when I went to Western Dental which was humiliating, painful, rude, and took almost 5 hours to get just an exam. I had an early appointment at 8:30 and was out by 9:30 and that was with x-rays, exam, cleaning, and fluoride "varnish" application. A girl was there that had gotten the wrong day for her appointment and they took her anyway. The waiting room was filled when I left so I doubt they would have gotten in and out as quick though. I went prepared and popped a norco before going and I'm glad I did. A lot more aggressive than I am used to but I haven't had a cleaning in 5 years either so might have just been that. Had a hard time understanding the accents of the dentist and staff, but they were friendly. Dentist is Sikh maybe? He runs his place and relates to his staff the same way my friends from India and Pakistan do, so don't expect your normal American service. Worst dental experience I've ever had in my entire life. All these negative reviews are spot on and it does not surprise me to hear that this place is illegally charging peoples insurance for work that isn't done because everything about this place feels criminal. It is absolutely filthy, the dentist has terrible bedside manner and is extremely aggressive and violent with your mouth you will have pain and you will be bleeding no matter what. I went in to have my tooth looked at and explained I had an exposed nerve and was in a lot of pain which anyone who's had that happen can understand, so he proceeded to violently stab the middle of my tooth which was broken and exposed without warning me he was going to do it And no numbing. Obviously I pulled my head away and reacted to the fact that he stabbed me like that, and I told him that it hurt a lot, so he proceeded to do the exact same thing again. When I pulled away again and made a yelling noise, he then said "I'm done here I can't do anything for you this is too crazy." he later apologized and admitted that this work was outside of his ability and referred me to a different dentist. But that apology does not make up for the fact that this man is operating a legal health facility and has peoples well-being in his hands. It needs to end. I was referred to this dentist from my dentist here in Redding ca . I need two root canals done so I went down here this place is poorly ran all together I have never experienced such poor service in my whole life. the front desk staff they were absolutely foul to work with from the start with rude behavior and not friendly at all. so I got one root canal done to add the tools smelled of bleach and they talk in a different language the whole time which by the way is totally uncomfortable and rude . after getting the root canal done, they wanted me to come back a total of six times to Chico from Redding after calling them to see if we could figure something out so I didn't have to drive down there so many times the lady on the phone was completely rude and sent me a letter and kicked me out. I have such a long and unpleasant review I could leave but I'm going to leave it short. Don't go to this dentist unless you like pain. When he did my two root canals I was in so much pain and he dropped something down my throat I almost choked. When my crown popped off, I went it to have it put back on and he accused me of waiting to long and that's why it wouldn't go right back on. I literally called and came in the next day. So he orders a new crown and put in a temporary. Putting a temporary crown on shouldn't hurt and most definitely shouldn't leave you with bloody gums but it seems every time I visit Tatla, I leave bloody and sore. I came in to have the replacement put on and he says it's not fitting right and immediately tries to pry it off with all of his strength. I've had to stop him on many occasions because I start to cry from the pain. He's told me if I can't handle it then I am free to leave. He couldn't get the crown off so he told me he would order a new one and cut this one out. I will never go back there again. I have no idea how he is allowed to practice dentistry. Anyone reading these reviews please believe they're absolutely correct this is the worst dentistry I've gone to... looking around at his tools they are unsanitary the mirror he uses to take a look into your mouth is covered in stains from other people's mouths he has worked on he does not numb your mouth all the way before procedures are starting causing pain and agony requiring more numbing during the procedure... recently I had an appointment and I had arrived before my appointment time waiting and eventually got called back some other person was also there he numbed my mouth and went to go work on the other person he had me sitting there for about 30-45 minutes with my mouth numb he comes into the room has me sign a waiver stating that i will not hold him responsible if he cannot save my tooth I sign it they begin and he starts drilling into my tooth (root canal procedure) I raise my left hand after a couple seconds of pain he responds I tell him that hurts I can feel that he begins to drill into my tooth again then shoves the numbing needle into my mouth once again starts to drill back into my tooth during the procedure they wanted to take x-rays they put the x-ray blanket over me and leave it on during the whole procedure I got bad hot flashes on the chair I tell him this and begin pushing the x-ray jacket off of me and onto my lap they want to take more X-rays so they pull it back onto me and try leaving it on me once again I push it off stating it is hot I'm having a bad hot flash he proceeded to rush with my root canal covering and didn't complete it all the way seconds after I had been out of the office a piece of it broke off uncovering part of my tooth then a couple days later the whole covering fell out of my tooth now leaving my tooth an open wound... if you've made it this far reading this please do yourself a favor and do not go into this dentistry this man is very unthoughtful of the wellbeing of his patients and he is very unsanitary read more

Well, it started out as waiting for about an hour to be seen. Once I got to the back of the office. The man who took my X-rays was polite and timely, but the dentist and his dental assistant spent about 10 minutes gossiping before they even started cleaning my teeth. Now I understand why I had to wait. Once they started cleaning my teeth they continued to gossip and remark on how terrible my teeth are. If I could give this place 0 stars I would! Horrible customer service from front staff that schedules appointments. My mother needed dentures since February and this office kept saying they needed authorization from Medi-cal. We waited and everytime I called to check on it, Betty was short with me and said they were still waiting on an authorization...I finally called Medi-cal myself and they informed me that the office filled out the form that was being requested, incorrectly and MEDI-CAL were the ones waiting on a response from the dental office. I had to call Betty, the receptionist, and inform her that they needed to fill the form out correctly and send it back to Medi-cal. We waited another couple of weeks because they still had not called us back to schedule an appointment. I went ahead and called Medi-cal once again where they informed me that they had received the request form but the office filled out the form incorrectly AGAIN! The Medi-cal rep assisted me and called Dr Tatlas office on the other line, and explained that they didnt need an authorization at all from Medi-cal and they could've proceeded with the treatment a long time ago. The receptionist finally scheduled my mother her appt for impressions. On the day of the appointment my mother was turned away again because, per the receptionist "medi-cal still had not authorized her procedure." I called Medi-cal again and they recommended we go to a different dentist. This office had given us the run around for the last 3 months! I was able to schedule an appointment at a different doctors office where they kindly squeezed her in to their busy schedule for a consultation AND impressions on that same day!! Funny all the complaints about the Dr is from people that where in uncontrollable pain or just plain rude human beings. Not one dentist in the world can fix pain in a instant. No one likes dental work. Your seeing the dentist for a reason and in most cases it's not for a good reason. You didn't take care of your teeth. If you don't take care of you teeth pain will happen. He will get you out of pain but it's never a instant cure. He will work with you as long as you show up on time and not miss appointments. Nothing goes perfect. Dental work is painful, bleeding happens. You heel and move on. He has helped me, my family and friends. Him and his staff have been nothing but awesome to me and my family. My boys are special needs and they have treat them with the up most respect. The doctor and staff make us comfortable and we have a few laughs. Everyone I have sent to him have been happy with his work. Root canals and pulling teeth are not fun so don't expect things to go perfectly or painless. The Dr is a busy man. So don't be in a hurry and expect dental work to be painless and fast. Any work in your mouth takes days to heal. What ever oral trauma you caused is your own doing. All dentist can just do so much. Any oral work is traumatic to your mouth. You may have multiple trips until all the work is done, it all can't be done in one visit. Take care of your teeth you won't have to worry about pain. I don't no anyone that likes to see the dentist or any other doctor. It's never going to be a party. Do everything the Dr ask you to do and you'll live a month pain free life. read more

Worst dentist you can go to very unprofessional and rude to patients. Does very crappy work when doing procedures. Only giving one star because you have too. This place should not be in business and should never be aloud to help patients. read more

See my full review on Yellow pages .com reviews. Summary: They did the wrong tooth for a root canal and they refuse to absorb the cost of their error on this major mistake. It took me 3 or 4 visits on the first tooth and 5 on the second tooth (because the lab kept messing up the tooth) for a total of about 9 visits over a year to get one root canal (that I asked for, the other was the one in front of the correct tooth that was done by mistake)! Dr. Tatla - I will delete this review if you can own up to your mistake. We both know what happened but basic customer service is in order here - ask yourself if you would pay for more than one tooth if you had one tooth done in error and another that took five tries to get right. read more

Waited two hours in the waiting room and they took me back into the room and then told me I had to reschedule my teeth cleaning because they were short staffed. So unprofessional! read more

I don't know if it was because I have tattoos and the dentist thought I'd be cool with it...but i've never had a cleaning that hurt so much. I had to tap out before they were done. It was creepy and unsettling to me, as a female--I have no idea if they hammer on males like this, but I'm pretty sure you don't have to make gums bleed for the better part of an hour to clean teeth. Fellows, go ahead and take your chances, but ladies...you know how they say, if you have to ask yourself if it was weird, then it was?
