We were excited to try out Navy Beach because of the reviews in the NYT and Hamptons magazine - what a mistake! Granted we showed up at 3:00pm, right after they stopped serving lunch, but given that they had a limited menu which included what we wanted - lobster rolls - we were happy to stay and soak up the atmosphere, which is certainly nice. No one directed us to our table, but told us we could sit outside on the beach, where we waited, and waited, and waited for service. We finally flagged down one of the busboys and asked for help only to watch a heated debate between the two waitresses over who would have to serve us - maybe we caught them both during their break? FInally one waitress came over, very grumpy, and clearly disappointed that we wanted to stay even though they only had three items to offer. We ordered drinks (no drinks menu, so no idea of what cocktails they had, if any), which were served in plastic cups. When I asked if I could have a glass, the waitress said it wasn't allowed, but reluctantly agreed when I pointed out that all of the tables around us were drinking cocktails and wine out of glassware. That was the last we saw of our waitress (we had also ordered a bottle of Pellegrino, which we only got when we flagged down yet another busboy and showed him where the bottles were kept in an outside cooler!) until we finally paid our bill (still had to chase her down to get that). Very unpleasant experience despite the great location and view (and the lobster rolls at $31 weren't great). Definitely won't be back. read more

The food was great, the view outside was breathtaking! I had spaghetti and my dish was delicious but I don't think I would ever return back to this restaurant, not even for the view. I ordered a Coke with no ice but instead I got a Coke with ice and a lemon wedge on it. Really? So as soon as she put the Coke down on the table, I told her I asked for one with no ice and she goes, oh yeah I remember, i'll be right back with another one! So then I kept waiting for another Coke with no ice and she never came back to check how we were doing until we were almost done with our meal. Meanwhile, she had enough time to go to other tables and ask how everyone was doing with their meal. I took it upon myself to go to the bar inside and get a Coke with no ice but even when inside I was not acknowledged at all. I stood there for a good 3-5 minutes before I asked the guy at the counter for help. No one looked me in the eye, I was ignored. I have a feeling it was racial but I can't say for sure. Hard to believe because they had music playing in the background in different languages but I don't feel comfortable going back there. read more

I visited Navy Beach on my first night of vacation looking for a casual atmosphere, scenic view, and quality, reasonably priced food. I had two main issues with my experience at Navy Beach... 1. I ordered the Kale Salad with grilled shrimp on top. Upon arrival, the shrimp were ROCK SOLID and freezing cold as though they hadn't been cooked and had come directly from a freezer bag. I mentioned this to the waitress and she said they were grilled then chilled. Shrimp Cocktail shrimp are chilled and they are not frozen. The shrimp were clearly not fresh, and were inedible. In fact, I think this is a safety/food quality concern as someone could get sick from raw/uncooked fish and produce. I did not eat the shrimp. Ironically, the table next to me had the same issue with the shrimp and received the same response from the waitress (NOTE - the waitress was apologetic and very nice, BUT that does not excuse serving unsafe and poor quality food - ESPECIALLY for the price). 2. The couple next to us had two young girls both under the age of 5. They asked about a kids menu and when they were told there was none they ordered plain pasta with butter. The baby barely had more that a handful of the pasta as her meal. When the bill arrived the pasta was ~$17 which was more than the couple's tuna tartar appetizer. They couple asked the waitress nicely to explain this and then asked for a manager. They couple DID NOT say that they would not pay their bill, but simply wanted to understand the justification for this cost etc. The first female manager came out and didn't seem to provide justification, but repeated that that is the cost and it is what everyone pays for their children's meals. Then....a male manager came out and that is when things got inappropriate. For no apparent reason the manager, Martin, began getting confrontational with the couple and raised his voice when the couple was not trying to make a scene. He said the reason for the fee for the pasta was that he has to pay his rent. In my opinion, it is a disgrace that a manager would treat a customer this way and also...sorry Martin, everyone has to pay their rent. That is no way to speak to any customer and no way to run your business. But, what put me over the top and the reason I am writing this review...The manager proceeded to turn on his white SUV, rev it up as if he was staging a 'getaway' then came back to to customer and cursed at the man in front of his two young daughters. That is crossing the line. Martin (and all of management at Navy Beach) should be ashamed of yourselves, this behavior and this situation. Note - 3 other customers (couples) saw this occur and I am sure I will not be the only person to speak up about it. The food quality and management situation is truly a shame...the scenic view and location is beautiful and this restaurant could have had potential. Wow...I didn't think that the restaurant that replaced Sunset Saloon could be any worse...I always went to SS and endured the lousy food because the setting was so great (wonderful sunsets, great bay beachfront and a really chill scene -- great for kids too). There, nobody tried to even pretend that the place was high-end which gave it a sort of charm. However...the problem with Navy Beach is that the food stinks, the service is HORRIBLE, and they were so unaccommodating that the night was very stressful from the get-go. My wife called and made a reservation for 12 and was told that sitting outside would be no problem. When we got there, the table was tiny and they refused to expand the table. This place epitomizes the problem that Montauk is becoming the Hamptons. Cocktails had no alcohol in them and by the end of the night we really needed the drinks. The view is good, no matter where you're seated. The hostesses seem disorganized and a lacking in basic manners. The place is over-staffed for what it is (but on the upside, the staff is primarily attractive 20-something year old women - which no matter what you're attracted to, is never a bad thing =). The salads are over priced given the cost of the ingredients. Our waitress was super friendly and very likeable but many of the other female staff were pretty rude. Even if they were quite good-looking, they were always looking through you, at you, over you, or out into space. The drinks were just drinks. Really nothing to run home and brag about. And the busser/runner/service team - even though there were a ton of them walking around.....They fired our entrees before we had even finished our appetizers. So here we are with all this stuff on our table and no room to place anything else - still attempting to eat our appetizers - surrounded by good-looking, shallow-eyed staff, holding our entrees like it's our fault we're not done our appetizers. And they stood there just holding the food, looking irritated, then they took our appetizers away when we were still eating and placed the entree plates. read more

Came here for my birthday lunch. We got there for lunch and then asked the girl if we can hang around the day beds for drinks after lunch. We spent a good amount on lunch and got plenty of drinks. An hour later the host comes over to us at the day bed and says dinner service has begun and we need the day bed. They basically indirectly kicked us out. I thought that was extemely rude. U obviously have day beds for people to chill out and have drinks. On top of that this was a wednesday! They werent even busy and we came from far away about a 2.5 hr drive. We visited this cozy beach spot recently and from start to finish it was hands down the best spot we had ever been in the hamptons area. The wait staff was very friendly, host was accommodating. weather wasn't cooperative so despite being excited to sit outside, we sat indoors and were pleasantly surprised with the interior atmosphere. very rustic but the staff, food and drinks make it top notch. try the corn on the cob with cotija cheese...its the best! the grilled peppers were unreal, and to be honest everything we ordered was delicious. priced fine for the upscale food you get. i have been to other places in the hamptons area and have paid far more for sub-par service and food. this place is such a hidden treat for anyone who ventures off the beaten path in montauk...i cant wait to go back!!! Avoid. Though a nice view, food is average at best. Slow service. Management is terrible. Saw a partial owner - Martin Cabrera become verbally abusive to a man with two young daughters, then speed away in his white jeep. This man has no business running a restaurant. The restaurant's website states he is director of operations and has worked at high end restaurants across the United States - I would urge the other owners to review his credentials once again. This place is complete SHIT. The owner wouldn't let us in because of a cab driver he didn't like which we were completely unaware of. They completely denied us our reservation that we had Made weeks in advance because of this cab driver alone. The owner also refused to talk to us about it and then ran into his restaurant to hide. Was the most ridiculous situation I have ever been in. You would think someone that owned a business could act more mature. Ate here a bunch, menu has a range of items from seafood to amazing fried chicken. The view can't be beat and the staff is incredible, so good we decided to have a destination wedding and get married here. Franklin was a pleasure to work with and it was awesome. This place gets 5 stars for the view and atmosphere but the service brings it way down in my book. It's an amazing spot to grab cocktails with friends and just enjoy the sunset and music. But good luck getting a server to even take your order. We went last night with a group of 6 people, I had to ask someone to come over to our table 3 times to take our drink order and no one came. Finally a cocktail server took our order and we waited another half hour for them to actually come out. My boyfriend paid the bill immediately and tipped the server way too generously. At that point, I thought she would be more attentive and come back to check on us but that wasn't the case at all. We probably would've ordered another 2 rounds of drinks, but since no one came around to take our order, we decided to leave as soon as the sun went down. Other parties nearby our table were having the same issue. This place is busy because of the location and the great lounge seating but they are missing out on making a lot more money because of lack of service. I would definitely recommend coming here for the sunset experience but don't have high expectations for good service. read more

Horrible... and what a shame too. Beautiful location for dinner on the water during sunset. It was our 10th wedding anniversary, my wife called for reservations, girl who answered phone said no reservations required, just come in. We arrive, mandatory valet...not a big fan of valet but no problem. Kid was actually chatty and very nice. We Go to walk in, door is locked, walk around side to outdoor seating area and into restaurant. We walk up to hostess desk to be seated. We were in great mood, 10th anniversary, beautiful night, sun setting within the hour and we're in Montauk...gonna be a perfect night. Nope. Hostess made sure to ruin any potential of a nice night. In a friendly way, I tell the hostess that the door was locked (having no idea what time they open). The hostess snaps back... it's locked because we're not open yet, we're not open until 5:30. I look at my phone... it's literally 5:28. I say ok. She then says (still nasty tone) Do you have a reservation? I say, we called and were told to just come in. She then proceeds to circle back to the locked door and begins to lecture us that "going forward, wait outside until we unlock the door". She then walks us outside to a table overlooking the water. On the way, I look at my wife and said "I'm not being spoken to this way or lectured by a f%#+* hostess" We left. The valet guys were nice and when they saw us come out so quickly, they questioned what happened and I explained. The one gentleman offered to go speak with the manager for us. I said thank you, but no... Would have probably been a nice night celebrating our 10th anniversary with a great view. But a restaurant should have a happier, nicer and more respectful person at a hostess table greeting customers. Hopefully the Owner or manager sees this review and makes some employment changes. She was a miserable person and I guarantee there are more reviews saying same about her. Move hostess out or to dish-wash and promote valet guys. read more

To be honest, I can't speak for the food or service. But I visited the restaurant off-season to see if it would make a good place to have a wedding rehearsal dinner. While my mom and I were trying to figure out which building the restaurant was (okay, it was obvious once we got our bearings), a guy appeared, claimed to be the owner, and screamed at us for "trespassing" on his "private property" and "scaring people" by walking around. And that was AFTER I told him I was interested in using it for an event. That is seriously how they treat a potential customer?? read more

We called early in the week (after getting no answers on multiple days, and still calling daily) asking to make a reservation for 4 people on the beach, they took the reservation and everything was all set. We arrived 10 minutes early and they started to seat is inside. We were confused because we thought we were eating outside. When we asked them if we could eat outside they said no, that there is nothing available, even though they had multiple tables outside that were empty. They also said you can't make a reservation for outside unless you have 6 or more people, which they didn't tell us when we called. I asked how it works to get seated outside and they said we would have to wait an hour to an hour and a half. Considering there were many tables, 4 tops and 6 tops that were empty we thought this was unreasonable. We were very disappointed with their lack of accommodation and poor customer service that we left. Never going back. read more

When I go out to eat at a fairly expensive restaurant, I expect to be able to talk to my dinner partner. Last night my husband and I ate at Navy Beach. We literally could not hear each other speak so we just gave up trying to have a conversation. They have jammed so many tables into the main space and the acoustics are so bad, that we almost left before ordering. Watch out for the seagulls - one came and took my lobster roll right from my plate. The restaurant was not apologetic and didn't seem to care. I asked for another lobster roll which was reordered for me, although they refused to replace my fries. I didn't want to eat the fries on the plate that the seagull had been on and I don't know why the restaurant thought this would be okay. I didn't want to get sick from the bird... I asked for a new order of fries and I was charged $9 for them on top of the $4 upcharge for first plate. Not worth nearly $40 for a so-so lunch and unconcerned management. read more

If a zero was an option, I would give it to Navy Beach,,My family and I made a reservation for 6 adults and 4 children for dinner,,We arrived early and had a drink outside until 6, when dinner was being served...The children ordered hot dogs and mac and cheese..and the adults had $32 lobster rolls and fried checken as suggested by the waitress...After waiting 1 hour, the waitress brought out the adult meals..The children had to wait even longer for the kids meals,,,While the dinner was being served[after waiting 1 1/2 hours] , one of the waiters spilled lemonade AND ketchup on my daughter's dress,,,The expensive lobster rolls were mediorce at best,,french fries cold and mac and cheese,hard and crusty for a child to eat. We stopped in for a drink in the afternoon, sat down at a table and expected waiter service. No one came. When we asked the hostess, she said that waiter service was only available if one ordered food. If we wanted drinks, we would have to walk up to the bar, wait for the bartender and then bring the drinks to the table ourselves. The waitresses were sitting doing nothing. Navy Beach is a hard to find place in Montauk but it is definitely worth seeking out. My wife and I visited there recently on what started out as a cloudy Saturday but ended up partly sunny by the end of the day. We were fortunate enough to get a seat at the end of the bar near the doors so we could enjoy what there was of the sunset as we ate dinner while listening to live music and enjoyed some fine cocktails. The staff was friendly and attentive - and the bar was well staffed for the large sunset crowd. Too often smaller places get a big rush but don't have the bar staff to handle it. The food was excellent - I had the Navy Burger which is described on the menu as "onion bacon marmalade" It was amazing! My wife had scallops which she enjoyed as well. We both sampled a few cocktails - my wife starting with the Madoff Cocktail which is described on the menu as "its good, trust us" but neither of us loved it. I had a margarita to start and it was ok but then I tried the Port Royale and loved it! For her second drink my wife had the marganegra which both of us thought was tasty and refreshing. read more

This restaurant offers such a beautiful sunset over a pristine beach after having a delicious dinner. If you're in your 20's and you want a spontaneous and relaxing dinner, Navy Beach has that. The views here are pretty and could it have been nice and relaxful and a good evening with the girls, but the service was atrocious and ruined the whole experience for us. They were rushing us from the second we walked in. We tried to order apps and drinks and just hang for a bit. And they forced us to order our entire dinner. Then when our apps came they tried to start taking them away within 5 minutes. I had the crab cake appetizer which is one crab cake. The server grabbed it to take away with half the crab cake left! You pay $18 for one crab cake, you'd think I would want the whole thing! Then it just continued the whole time we were eating our apps. Dinner came out while we still had our apps. Within 10 mins tops they were asking if we wanted anything wrapped or cleared. We kept saying we were still working on it. This continued the entire time we ate. At one point they started clearing my friends stuff and stacking plates and then asked her if she was done. Then after they cleared and we paid, we were finishing up our drinks. A woman came over and told us that people were waiting for tables and since we were done we would have to get up! It was completely ridiculous!!! Mind you, we were there total for less than an hour and half!! The way we were treated you'd think we were there lingering for hours. And on to the food....nothing was amazing. Everything was bland with really no taste. It just needed something else. It was hard to enjoy anyway Bc we literally had to shove it down our throats. Anyway, find somewhere else to go. I'm surprised by the recent bad reviews. I dined here earlier this week - party of 6, of which 2 are toddlers. We had a 615pm reservation. We were seated at a large table right by the door that leads outside. Our waitress (whose name i unfortunately don't remember) was very sweet. She was very patient as we decided what we wanted to order and even told us how to make sure we got an outside table next time we come (either first seating at 515/530pm or second seating for 7pm). I loved the coconut curry mussels and the ceviches. Sangria was good as well. Calamari salad was so so- the calamari were overly fried. Love the ambiance and vibe. Sincerely wish the bathrooms had AC or at least a fan. Overall, great place, food and the sunset views were amazing. read more

After coming here for a wedding a few years ago I was excited to take my wife here for her birthday. While you can't beat the views, and it's great to sit right on the beach, especially with kids, you quickly find out you are paying for the location. My wife started with a mojito and a dark and stormy for myself. I found the drinks to taste very watered down...and small. We quickly switched to wine. I wish they had different options other than clear dixie cups. For what you're paying, they could find some nice plastic glassware. Anyway, we started with the clams casino. They were ok, very greasy, but still devoured them. (We were hungry after driving most of the day). I got the scallops, which were great. Very large and cooked to perfection. My wife got the surf and turf which she raved about. The steak was excellent. I stole quite a fair share from her. Get the steak, it was awesome! Lobster is lobster in my opinion. It is always good. Now where things went a little south for me...the kid's dinners. My daughter got buttered noodles. This was rigatoni with butter. It was $16. My son got the fried shrimp, 3 pieces of fried shrimp and fries for ...yep, you guessed it, $16. We're on vacation, so I'm not going to complain about prices too much, but this was a little out of whack. I'd definitely give it another star if it was just me and my wife. The service was just ok. Our guy was in and out at random intervals, but never, it seemed, when we needed him (or a refill). The other odd thing about this restaurant is that I've been going on line to make reservations for 2 years straight now with no luck. I finally caved and just called. They took us whenever we wanted. I'm not sure if this is intentional or not, but I'd just call. A good romantic spot, but leave the kids at home. There's a cute little shop just off the restaurant located in an old air stream. Adds to the vibe, and they actually have some good stuff in there. read more

First time ever in the history of dining, the food came out BEFORE the drinks. Wonder if the owners have any clue how much $ they're losing with drinks because of the staffing issues. read more

If you want to dine & drink at a place that frustrates you that does not respect their customers whatsoever then this is the place for you. The management and service is horrific. We were seated an hour and ten minutes after our reservation time at 9pm, which wasn't even the issue. On a Saturday night, we expected it and had a few rounds of drink at the bar- the view and atmosphere was great, so we were all okay with the wait. The service was beyond horrible once we got seated at our table. Our server was awful (ignored us, gave us attitude, did not bring over items we ordered, etc.) We many times had to go to the bar ourselves and get drinks if we wanted them because our server was that horrible. We asked to speak to management after the check came and there was a 20% gratuity (which is always expected on tables of 6+ people- but definitely not deserved after our experience), but we wanted to inform management about our experience in hopes that other guest wouldn't have the same awful dining experience. "The manager" came over in a pompous attitude (like we were wasting his time) and was extremely rude and provided the worst customer service to his guests who were unhappy. I work in hospitality management and was appalled on his word choice and behavior to paying guest who experienced things they SHOULD NOT experience while dining at a restaurant. I recommend you have a drink here, enjoy the sunset & go eat somewhere else. read more
