So glad we decided to try this place for dinner tonight. We wanted to be near a great area to view the sunset and The Dock was close by. ( sunset was just around the corner on Mermaid Beach). Our server was very friendly and had great advice on food choices. I had the chicken quesadillas- delicious. My husband had New England scallop chowder ( delicious) and fried coconut shrimp ( tender & tasty). And the peanut butter pie is yummy. Quirky, fun decor too! read more

My brother and I were on a nostalgia tour of Montauk, and ended up here after walking around Gosman's Dock. We had wanted to go to what's now Mary Lou's but used to be a restaurant we went to all the time on family vacations. The security guards and swarms of influencers in sparkly dresses and cowboy boots made us quickly realize this wouldn't be an option for dinner. We started walking back toward Gosman's and noticed The Dock tucked away on a side street. We decided to grab a drink at the bar and regroup on next steps. The ambiance here is very casual, its a busy spot with a large indoor bar and a handful of indoor and outdoor tables. Our bartender was a master at tending to the rush and took care of us quickly. While we were deciding what to do next, we made conversation with a local Gosman's fish monger who let us know the food here was worth staying for, and even went as far as to ask one of the staff members for the name of what the restaurant next door used to be for us as we were trying hard to remember. I'm so glad we stayed, because the food was really on point here. Clam chowder was hearty and had plenty of clams. Their steamed clams were incredible, fresh and packed with lots of chopped garlic in a broth that you'll want to drink. The star of the show here is the tuna melt: a giant fresh tuna steak served on an English muffin with cheese and some of the best fries I've had at a restaurant in ages. Absolute no frills, dive bar, casual and comfortable. There isn't any fancy, pretty ambiance here, but casual and easy. Very friendly service, you feel at home. The food.. some of the best in town. Not dog-friendly at all. Don't come here, even if you have a service dog. Their window sign says "No screaming kids," yet there were still children running around and yelling. They should probably update the sign to also say "No service dogs." On top of that, many of the items listed on the menu were no longer available. Total waste of time coming here. The service was attentive and professional you can tell these are career servers they move like a well oiled machine. Now onto the food, the Jalapeño poppers are 11/10 I would come back just for those. The special fish sandwich was very fresh, light and well done. The mahi mahi bites were breaded and had a buffalo wing vibe but a very generous portion. The nachos were great and the mozzarella sticks were solid. Casual atmosphere with great ambiance. Have eaten here a few times over the last couple years and always walk away satisfied. On the weekends in the summer, expect a wait during peak times. We usually try to get there early and rarely have to wait more than a few minutes. read more

Super solid spot! I love the Phony Negroni. So nice to see non- alcoholic options like that at a divey place. I've had it before and made me so happy to cool off with a mocktail after a hot beach day. Clam chowder and fried calamari were great to start. And the soft shell crab sandwich was really tasty too. Stumbled onto this place due to the parking lot being full. Always a good sign when it's crowded with local people. Staff was very friendly and efficient. The place was busy but only had to wait a bit for a table. Food was excellent and generous portions. We shared huge and delicious kale Caesar salad, baked clams and horseradish cod. Everything is homemade. We will probably be back again before we leave. Only recommendation for improvement was the wine selection was very limited and what was offered wasn't great. I always loved this place. I loved the food there. This time the food was terrible. Two specials, tuna salad open face on an English muffin and shrimp with baked clam stuffing were awful. The really bad part is the service was very slow and the servers were walking around like they were at the beach. We had to wait approx 1 hour for our entrees! Great divey vibe, decent food and service, but a little mixed on both. Prices were pretty good...little cheaper than alternatives. One thing that is a little confusing if you haven't been is that there seem to be too menus. The standard, permanent food, which looks a lot like what is offered elsewhere. But there is also a hand-written menu--maybe a daily menu?--that has more gourmet offerings. We ordered from both menus, and the baked clams from the standard menu were a favorite of mine, so no shade on that menu. I also had a [summer] corn and crab chowder from the handwritten menu that was great. As for missteps, I had a soft shell sandwich--which I know isn't local, but I love softshell--that tasted not fresh and potentially thawed from frozen. Also, our server totally disappeared at the end of our meal. I finally hunted her down to find her eating dinner at the back of the bar. People need breaks, but would have expected someone else to cover. I'd still recommend though. read more

The Dock has some divey goodness going on here. I would come for a large order of mussels with a Guinness and be a happy man, but their other food is tasty too. The interior is all dark wood, with little kitschy signs, pictures, taxidermy, etc..all around. This place is a salty dog with attitude. I dig it, I feel right at home. The wait staff helps with that for sure - fast moving, friendly faces, no attitudes. We asked about the baked clams before we ordered because my mom likes chopped clams, which is how they come. The flavor is good, but really all breading. If you prefer whole clams get the casino version. Fried oysters were a special - they seems to flatten them out a bit, but I've had better, juicier ones elsewhere. Crab cake sandwich was very good if that's your thing - it came on its own (no fries or side), which made it seem lonely. As mentioned in the beginning the Mussels was the star dish I tried - white wine, butter, so much garlic it looks like snow and parsley bathes these plump beauties. Get extra bread to soak up all that goodness, or be totally ridiculous and use the provided spoon to slurp up the juices (I was tempted!) read more

Love this place !! The whole vibe is so awesome. Cool stuff decorate the place so you always see something new. Staff is super friendly and our waitress was really nice and on it. The red chowder was really really good and fresh. The hot dogs were insanely good piled with all kinds of stuff you can choose from. Came to this place on a whim after looking at reviews for a dinner place in Montauk. We arrived and ordered at 5pm on a Sunday night, and took seats outside. There were a couple of other people already sitting, and more showed up as we were eating. The restaurant is near Lake Montauk, and there is a pier with fishing boats located nearby. They had a chalkboard menu up at the window, and we ordered and paid at the register before taking seats outside. We weren't required to wear our masks if we were sitting in our seats, but the staff wore masks at all times. We didn't have to wait long for our food. It was served within 20 minutes of ordering, in little cardboard containers, with plastic utensils. The mussels were in a very simple garlic, parsley and wine sauce. It was delicious despite its simplicity, and the mussels were fresh. My husband's fish sandwich looked very plain when it came out, but he confirmed after taking a bite that it was great. The fish was fresh, crumbed and perfectly cooked. It was served with a homemade tartare sauce on the side. The service was attentive and friendly. Would highly recommend this place. read more

Whether or not you like Gosman's Dock depends on what you're looking for. Is it overbuilt, touristy, and overpriced? Yes. However - this area includes one of the few remaining large-scale commercial fishing docks on Long Island. You could argue that overfishing and resource exploitation killed the fishing industry, and good riddance, we shouldn't be eating animals anyway. All right, though I'm not in that camp. You could also argue that living within ecosystems does allow for sustainable resource management, and sorry, there are still plenty of people who love to eat fresh fish (hi!) Point is, commercial fishermen are a dying breed (Downeaster Alexa, anyone?), but this dock still stands, and everyone visiting Montauk should check it out. You don't need to eat the meh lobster roll (but you could, and it's tasty), or buy the overpriced t-shirt (they're even pricier up-island, so ...) but you do at least need to visit the docks and see what real fishing boats look like. And c'mon, if you don't spend any money, did you really just drive up here to look at the boats? Buy an ice cream or something for Pete's sake. Kidding aside, enjoy - Montauk's docks give it an authenticity that the Hamptons can't come close to matching. read more

It was our date night on a chilly Thursday in August. The food was delicious but that's not the point. In the table next to us there was a spoiled loud toddler crying for chicken fingers. Chances for a happy ending were fast waning. Then, our knight in shining armor / long haired server named John, saved the day. He shot the offending family a look of steel, and made them flee the science in a true Montauk minute. Thank you John for saving our date night.
