I recently had a very bad experience with Linh at the Springfield branch of Navy Federal Credit Union, and unfortunately, it did not meet my expectations. I am accustomed to a VERY high level of service at NFCU (which is why I have banked with them for over 25 years!) and what I encountered was quite the opposite. From the moment I approached the counter, Linh never offered a smile or a warm greeting, which set a negative tone for the interaction. Her communication skills were lacking, and I found it difficult to understand her due to her lack of English proficiency. Additionally, she did not take the time to engage in basic pleasantries, such as saying "good afternoon" or even introducing herself, which is typically a standard in customer service. She also took a very long time to resolve the issue, and never explained what was taking so long or update me on what she was doing on the computer. Given that I have received EXCELLENT customer service and communication at other branches and over the phone, I'm surprised to see someone like Linh in a customer-facing position. I believe that effective communication and a friendly demeanor are essential in this line of work. I hope Navy Federal can address these concerns, as I would love to see the standard of service improve from such a reputable institution. She needs A LOT of training ASAP. read more

I "fired" a different credit union after they made several preventable mistakes with my account. Navy Federal is awesome. If you need a new debit card, or it gets stolen, you can get a new card immediately. They print the cards inside the branch. They will also shred your old one for you. read more

I have been with NFCU for a few years now I have had several negative experiences with them . I went in to the Springfield Branch to make a cash payment for my car loan . I handed the teller my money , she counted it and very rudely said you don`t have the proper amount for the car payment . I said you need to recount the money , there are some $50.00 dollar bills in that stack . She recounted the money and said oh I didn`t notice that there were 50s in the stack , it was clear, she was not paying attention when she counted the money . I directed her to deposit it into my car loan account for payment . I assumed she did as she was directed to , however a few weeks go by and I get a LATE notice for my car payment ! I returned to the same Branch of NFCU in Springfield to find out what why I got a late notice for my car payment , that same teller , who couldn`t count money , also did not listen , she put my car payment funds into my checking account , NOT my auto loan account as I directed her to do , so my car payment was NOT paid !!! I spoke to the supervisor there , told her about my unfortunate experience with the teller weeks before . I relayed my experience and suggested the teller go through training again due to the fact she cannot count money , she does not appear to know the system , cannot follow directions or cannot hear . The new supervisor informed me she was there at that branch due to a lot of issues with that branch . My next incident involved a major loss of my funds due to a scam that involved my checking and savings accounts . I lost over $14,000.00 in a scam that NFCU could have stopped had the rep been more attentive . This type of transaction was way out of my financial character . Friends tell me their banks ask questions when they do transactions that are non-typical , this was clearly not typical for me . l feel like NFCU completely dropped the ball on this transaction , causing me to lose over $14,000.00 .One would think with so much fraud , they would have asked a question or two , to verify why I was transferring such a large sum of money to a place totally uncommon for me . Not to mention , when I asked the representative if she could see where a specific sum of money had been deposited in to my checking account , she said yes , but she failed to tell me (or ask me ) , why I didn`t know the funds came from my own savings account , that would have stopped everything right then and there , this scam transaction could have been thwarted had they asked why I didn`t know my money came out of my savings account .The funds were supposed to have been deposited by the scammers into my savings account . Even when were trying to get the transaction to go through it took 4 different NFCU employees to get it to go through , which should have thrown a red flag . As soon as I got back home I checked my account , realized I had been scammed , NFCU was closed . I tried to call the many numbers they have , but no one could assist me. As soon as the doors opened the next morning I went back to the branch and told them what had happened . It was then , they told me there was nothing they could do since I only have 30 minutes to cancel a wire transaction . I filed a complaint within NFCU , after several weeks of investigating , my funds were reinstated to my checking account with a " pending " status . I waited for the "pending " status to be removed , assuming everything was fine , I moved my funds back to my savings account . WEEKS later , NFCU , WITHOUT NOTICE , decided to WITHDRAW " ALL " the REIMBURSED FUNDS FROM MY CHECKING ACCOUNT LEAVING ME WITH ZERO DOLLARS !!! REMEMBER , I MOVED THE FUNDS BACK TO MY SAVINGS ACCOUNT AFTER THE PENDING STATUS WAS REMOVED ! ) .THEY TOOK EVERY DIME I HAD FROM MY CHECKING ACCOUNT WITHOUT WARNING , NOTICE , OR OTHERWISE INFORMING ME OF THEIR DECISION TO RETRACT THE REIMBURSEMENT FUNDS , LEAVING ME WITH NO FUNDS TO COVER MY AUTOMATIC BILL PAY . NEEDLESS TO SAY ,THOSE PAYMENTS WERE DENIED DUE TO INSUFFICIENT FUNDS , CAUSING MUCH CHAOS AND REEKING HAVOC WITH MY AUTOMATIC BILL PAY AND CREDIT RATING. I am not impressed with NFCU at all . ALL the locations always have long wait times due to minimal tellers working . The team members seem to be more interested in each other , than keeping the business operating smoothly and accurately .They should have more people working or available to assist in busier times when the lines get really long or put in an express lane so those of us who have simple deposits can do it expeditiously and not have to wait for someone with a more complex transaction , I waited 25 minutes in line at the BURKE branch 2 weeks ago to make a simple deposit ! Banking with Navy Federal is great, however, do not get a mortgage or refinance with them. They have different branches and they do not communicate with each other. It takes forever, even if you have urgent court date that you have to meet. It is impossible to get someone to communicate with you. I love Navy Federal--I just wish they had branches in San Francisco. After I moved to the West Coast, I had to find a new bank. No one compares to Navy Federal. Low fees, especially for traveling abroad. I used NFCU during my junior year abroad in Taiwan and was never charged more than $1 for foreign transactions. Other banks have charged me as much as $5 for each ATM transaction. If you're family members are also member of NFCU, you can easily transfer money to each other, which is a nice feature. These transfers post instantly. Unfortunately POS transactions aren't updated in real time, but for all the other benefits of this credit union, this is a minor annoyance. read more

DO NOT BANK WITH NAVY FEDERAL!!!! We had Navy Federal Camus Checking account that was hacked when my son went to college several months ago. Though Navy Federal admitted to us they "suspected fraudulent activity" with the account they did not notify us and let the account remain open and nearly $10,000 was overdrawn from the account. They will only speak to my son as he is primary owner but they have closed his account and locked him out and he has no access to the information. Navy Federal will not interact with me at all despite being his parent and co-owner of the account. A Navy Federal representative with whom we first discussed the case accused us of being involved, though she had no information regarding the case. We have contacted Navy Federal at least 50 times and they will not return any of requests for assistance or information regarding the investigation. We can only discuss this with the security department, but phone wait times when we call are routinely 2 hours. I was told by another representative that I would have to "rearrange my scheduled" if I wanted to speak with someone. Navy Federal has 1980s technology, is understaffed and their customer service is horrible. We had a similar problem with an American Express account. We received a phone call that same day and the issue was resolved in 5 minutes. DO NOT BANK WITH NAVY FEDERAL!!!! read more

I've been to several NFCU locations in Alexandria (which are awful) so I prefer to drive out of my way to this branchin Springfield. The front desk, tellers, and customer service reps are generally all incredibly helpful, patient, quick, and solution oriented. I love that they are also open on Fridays until 6pm! The female manager is terrible at this location. Overall I love Navy credit union and their customer service but not this location. I went to re-open my checking account and she didn't approve the eligibility for some odd reason. I called then membership services and they approved me. I went back the next day and she waved at the host as we were approaching her and she said "no find another desk member". Meanwhile I saw her monitor from the back, she was looking up fort laud hotels. Anyways i went to Kingstowne branch and got a new account in less than 10 min. I usually try to go to the Navy Federal in Springfield because parking is less of a pain than the branch in Crystal City. Today was a huge disappointment in their professionalism. I went to the bank to deposit some checks but there was a sign on the window that the bank had closed at noon due to "inclement weather". It was raining and there was no snow accumulation. Another person behind me was trying to go to the bank as well and he couldn't believe it either. When you are a bank that represents the sailors, soldiers, and marines overseas that are working in hard conditions, it is unfathomable that you would close for a fake snow storm that didn't appear in the Northern Virginia area and is the epitome of laziness, as bankers work indoors. read more

I have been a member of this financial institution for 26 years. They have financed every car I bought except the last one. But something happened in the last 2 years, their credit card interest rates skyrocketed. 4 years ago, I closed all my credit cards and just kept one, my NFCU Visa, thinking since their mission is to serve members of the Navy, it was going to be a good call. Wrong! Their interest rates rose from 8% to 16.8% in the course of one year. They did it before President Obama passed the Credit Bill. I've called and begged but to no avail. I felt cheated. So far it's the highest interest rate account I have and they're supposed to provide financial services to the troops! read more

i've been really disappointed in NFCU over the last 1.5 years. i've been cheated twice by tellers. one time at the colombia pike location and once here. make sure you look at your receipts before you leave the teller. lot of people setting around in their lobby. can you believe it their computers go down every pay day. this is unacceptable. they are spending millions of military dollars on advertising--on tv. they've had to pay fines over the years for misdeeds. maybe they should spend more time on customer care versus advertising and trying to grow to fast. just ridiculous. i've just about had it with them and think of taking my business elsewhere. read more

Credit Union in Springfield, VA has among the worst telphone services I've experience...I continously called and the phone was constantly busy...it's frustrating especially when a short fuse question needs responding within the hours.
