I never expected to find stellar cocktails and wings inside of a hotel, but you truly never know. Let's start with the cocktails; they are KILLING it. The menu has a ton of really detailed options, each drink with its own depth. The menu changes seasonally but what doesn't change is the smoked old fashioned - a must-order. They smoke your drink in a glass container using applewood chips; it's quite a show and it also does make the drink much more enjoyable. Ask the bartender and they can also help guide you to a drink - I've done it a couple of times and always pleasantly surprised. Next up, the food! The hummus was very flavorful and paired with an amazing fluffy pita bread. The truffle fries were solid but the plate was HUGE, definitely needs a friend to share. The Nashville wings are the star of the show. I cannot stress this enough, this is worth a DRIVE for. The seasoning really does remind you of Howlin' Rays (the highest compliment) and the chicken is extremely crispy yet insanely juicy. The pickles and ranch that it comes with pairs so well. Do note that they are tossing it in pork fat, which enhances the depth but also makes it a little greasy at the end. I also wished they'd warn you this and offer to order it without it; especially for those who don't eat pork or for those trying to cut some calories. There's a happy hour menu too!!! So you can get drinks and food even cheaper. I cannot stop thinking about this place. It's such a sleeper. Head to Midnight Oil after a visit to continue your night. read more

I had breakfast here twice and both times had positive experiences. There were tables and half booth/tables available so we could pick where we wanted to sit. The booths had the covering peeling so not the best look, but it was still comfortable. The servers were friendly, attentive, and prompt with service. The first breakfast was the breakfast burrito which was a large portion and potatoes. It keep me full for hours and I didn't need to have lunch. It was filled with eggs, sausage, beans, cheese, and peppers. The next day, I had the smoked salmon avocado toast. There was ample salmon and it was very tasty. The orange juice was great too. Came here out of convenience for quick bite before a Distinguished Speaker event held at the Long Beach Terrace Theatre. Arrived early to the theatre and made the easy walk across Ocean Blvd. I completely spaced out and didn't realize that it was located in the lobby of the Westin Hotel. It's the lobby bar. Unfortunately like many lobby bars in large hotels the place was almost completely full. Clearly many people going to the theatre had the same idea. But when combined with the many hotel guests (easily spotted since they were all wearing their company logo polo shirts and jackets) AND only having two servers on duty the wait for a table, ordering then waiting to be served made what was supposed to be a convenient quick bite waaay too long. I decided to head downstairs and eat at the restaurant, Navy Proof Food & Spirits. The restaurant is open spaced with the lobby. The selections were various but decided to go with the Babacoa tacos and shared a calamari shrimp appetizer also a carrot cake for dessert. Flavorful and well seasoned. No issues with any of the choices Breakfast the next day, decided to pick the Eggs Benedict. Another solid choice with no complaints. The restaurant staff were nice as well and attentive. Overall good. Nothing I found a concern. But something noteworthy to mention but was not a restaurant concern but a hotel one. We received such friendly treatment from our server in the comfortable seating area. I ordered the salmon toast and it was a huge portion! I could have easily shared with my colleague. Came to eat here every single day for 5 days while we were in Long Beach for the Cali Vibes Festival and we never got tired of the food! The food is good, it comes out quickly and staff is nice. I understand that it was a hard weekend to work due to the festival so it did get EXTREMELY busy at times where service was slow, but no reason to dock them stars for that. Everyone was doing the best they could and was trying to give maximum service to everyone at the same time. Our breakfast was included with our stay and we never got tired of it. They had a good variety but my favorite was definitely the huevos rancheros. I got that 3 days in a row! The coconut chia seed pudding was also my favorite from the half portions that also came included. Our stay also included daily free wine or beer flights and we didn't miss a day! I loved their pinot noir the most and my husband's favorite beer was the Chronic amber ale. It's an open restaurant so you can see everyone that walks in and out to check in and out. This was a nice place to get a quick bite and drinks when you do t feel like getting out of the hotel. Food was good, service was great and we were there for happy hours, as well as breakfast! What a great place. I had some serious difficulty with the hotel itself (I'll leave another review on that) but the restaurant is tremendous. I wasn't going to try to eat here because it does look pretty pricey (that's why they lost a star). I had to visit the front desk five separate times because of issues with my room door either not shutting or not opening. Finally on my fifth visit I told the front desk person that I was getting frustrated, I'm trying to spend my time with my family and visit the city. I ended up getting some free breakfast vouchers, and I probably ended up getting $250 worth of free product. First off, I want to say something about our server Benny. We had him both days we had breakfast. What an outstanding server and kind person. When he found out my kids spoke Spanish, he helped them practice their Spanish. He was very attentive, kind, and wished us a safe trip when he discovered we were leaving. The food was great. You can tell everything is high quality and the ingredients were really fresh. What felt like 10 min later, a nice waitress came, apologized for our wait and gave us a menu, but we didn't see her for another 15 min. All of this was a bit frustrating because we were trying to get our kiddo some dinner than up to bed ASAP. Aside from the delays, our waitress was super friendly and helpful though. She brought us out an extra small bowl, water in a sealed cup, and just made things super easy for our child. One of the staff also offered to give our daughter some ice cream but we asked for fruit instead and she brought some out which was super nice. I ordered the french dip, and it was delicious. Solid crusty bread but still soft in the middle. Good amount of meat and delicious melted cheese. I got mine with a Caesar salad and it hit the spot. These pork belly poutine fries are the closest thing I'll ever get to Canada and I have been craving them since we got them! The meat is super tender and they give a great amount of cheese curds, while the gravy is just right! Not too thick and not too watery. They are inside Westin property so you can use their lobby wifi to stay connected to internet. Parking is available both inside and outside the street. We stopped in during the marathon today and it was quite busy. The hostess was really friendly and helpful so we decided to give it a try. Our server Benito gave us a heads up that we may have a bit of a wait, which we appreciated and helped us set expectations. We grabbed coffees at bluestone cafe to bring in which was the way to go. I ordered the skillet without tots and asked to cook it in oil which made it gluten free friendly and dairy free. My partner ordered the egg breakfast and liked it. I just realized that, despite having been here on a number of occasions, I still haven't ever reviewed them. So I'm finally fixing that! Anyway, whenever I'm here at this point, I'm here for exactly one reason: their smoked old fashioned. I wish it weren't now $20 plus tip, but it's one of the best old fashioneds around. Perfectly blended base of "rye, bourbon and brandy", absolutely perfectly cut, crystal clear ice, and then smoked to absolute kingdom come in a crazy smoke machine. *Nobody* else is making smoked cocktails like that in Long Beach (I still miss the heck out of Cielo, years later.) As far as the bar itself - all their bartenders are great, ambiance is solidly "nice but casual hotel bar", and the menu cocktails are mostly $16, even the relatively easy to make ones. If it weren't for the smoked old fashioned, I'd probably give this bar 4 stars, in that, no matter how good your bartenders are, no matter how perfectly clear your ice is and how nice a glass you serve it in (but they do have really nice ice and glassware, I won't lie), I'm not going to be *that* excited about paying $16 for a menu of mainly classic cocktails or slight variations on them, that I could probably make at home. (By the way, the one other cocktail with an instagrammable-sounding description, the "smoke bubble", is indeed a neat effect, but isn't actually that much smoke - unlike the smoked old fashioned, not nearly enough to affect the flavor of the drink.) But here's what I definitely *don't* have at home (and don't plan on buying): a decent-sized machine that looks like it's from a hundred years ago, that chews up pretty decent sized chunks of wood, and spits out an impressively substantial amount of smoke, which yes, is perfectly presented so you can take a video for your friends (it's the sort of drink where the person sitting next to you might ask if *they* can get a picture), but also, so it has a chance to really smoke the drink properly. At *that* point, with their bartenders all being great, great hand-cut ice, and a great house blend of "rye, bourbon and brandy" as the old fashioned base... I *will* occasionally splurge on one of the best smoked old fashioneds I've had anywhere. I also asked last time I was there if I could get other cocktails smoked, and you definitely can - definitely seeing smoked boulevardiers in my (relatively occasional, they are still $20 cocktails!) future. read more

The bar/restaurant is at the hotel lobby and is very bright, clean, and modern looking. Prices on some items seemed a bit high but you gotta pay to play lol. He brought me a lemon drop and it was tasty, always love those but the Bloody Mary was "chefs kiss" good and so flavorful.
