We bought a bottle of this to take home and I overheard them telling a customer about recipes on their website, so I'll have to look a few up. We also tried the maple-coffee liqueur which had a stronger flavor than their other products. The couple next to us really enjoyed this but for us, we'll stick with the other three. We didn't taste the maple shine or their maple bourbon (I'm not actually sure if it's bourbon, but we've gone through a bottle drinking it neat and it's very good), since we've had these two before. Atmosphere- they had a big fan but it was hot in there, no AC. There's a few comfy seats and room to stand at the bar. The wooden bar itself is beautiful and the decor is nice too. The guy working was extremely knowledgable and helpful as we were not familiar with the maple syrup process and what they're making is different than the other distilleries that have opened the past couple of years in Buffalo. Tried the mapleshine and the aged rum spirit. Unique taste to both but very good and both had a bite in their pure form. The highlight were the mixed drinks that were made with homemade simple syrups - this cut the bite a little and brought out the maple flavor. Bought some bottles and hoping to see Black Squirrel at more events and bars.

If visiting Niagara on the Lake which is only 15/20 mins from Lincoln/St. Catherine's Jordan and downtown Niagara come out and support the locals and CLEAN made spirits. I get an email that basically states "Sorry for the delay, I refunded your shipping, it will go out Friday thing Monday morning.". (Huh?! Oof). Again, no tracking number, no contact, no product. I emailed again to ask for a tracking number. No response. It's a month later, and no product. I call again, get a lady who says she will talk to Daniel and call me back. To her credit, she calls me back that day. She says it will be sent Monday, with express shipping, and I should have it by Wednesday. (Ontario to Alberta - doubtful). I ask her to send me a tracking number and she says she will personally call me on Monday with it. Well, you can guess what happened at this point. No call, no email, no product. Now I'm REALLY fed up (like I said, I'm patient, but over a month of getting the run around has finally worn it thin), and why won't the guy in charge even bother to speak with me?! I call back, speak with her again, she says they had three packages returned to them and mine was among them. That makes no sense at all to me, I'd sure like to see what the (non-existent) tracking said on all three of those. She says Daniel will sort it out. NOTHING. We're now into February. I call back, speak to the first gentleman again, he assures me that Daniel will contact me. Righhhht. I wait another week before one more phone call that went unanswered during business hours - they probably have call display. LOL. My next call was to Visa to dispute the charge. The next day I get an email with a short apology stating that he will refund me. No explanation as to why they haven't sent it. Over a week later, on Feb.13th, I finally received a refund. I don't even know if he provided it, or if Visa did... My bet is on Visa. What a joke of a business. Get your act together!

The seating areas have a very nice display of pictures of Wayne in his Hockey days and a lot of old family photos as well. We did a tasting that included several of their liquors. We tried the red and white Ice Wines, Whiskey and Creams. Let me start off by saying I do not like wine at all.... However the Ice Wines were absolutely incredible! The maple flavored Whiskeys were awesome and rich with flavor while being very smooth to sip. I tried the Butter Pecan Cream (kind of like Baileys) which was a favorite as well. The prices are very reasonable especially with the exchange rate. They have gift shops where wines, whiskey, creams can all be purchased. They also have shirts and other items. I personally loved the hockey stick shot flight. The shot glasses were skates that fit into a miniature hockey stick. They also have a restaurant where I had the best poutine I have ever eaten! I also had the smoked trout sandwich which was delicious. The Caesar salad with kale and capers was awesome! The flavor of the food, the freshness and presentation was second to none. The employees were extremely friendly, helpful and genuinely friendly when you have questions. Wayne Gretzky Estates Winery and Distillery was by far one of the highlights for my trip. He was professional AND endearing. He was always engaged in what we thought of each stop, and his relationship with the people at the breweries/distilleries/wineries seemed genuine. And whether it was him or just the smaller size, It honestly felt like we were treated better, being a part of Rich's group, then being in a group of 50 coming off a tour bus.   The stops were all great. I had some reservations about a few, but was honestly able to find something I loved at each location. Not to mention, the price is extremely competitive with all of the other tours I was researching. The van we were in was even fancy and brand new. At the moment, Woods Spirit Co. produces gin and amaro, although they will soon launch a limoncello. I had the opportunity to visit Woods Spirit Co. tonight as part of a Yelp event (see my previous review for details), and I'm thrilled to have discovered this local distillery. I can't wait to come back once their lounge is open. I had the privilege of trying their products, and they were tasty! Another thing to note is their gender neutral washrooms were excellent. Overall the shortness of the tour was made up with the info. The free tasting at the end was nice. I got to try some higher end products I would not have bought a whole bottle without trying. Btw... buy a bottle of the bbq sauce. Sounds stupid but you won't regret it.
