I stopped by Down for Donuts, because it is my family's favorite donuts, on a Thursday around 11:30AM. It's a cute little place, with a window for ordering. They have pictures of all the donuts which I appreciate SO much. The staff was so incredibly lovely and kind. They were super patient with me as I worked my way through the sweets to pick out the ones I wanted. I ended up ordering 10 donuts and 2 cinnamon rolls. I was legitimately shocked when she told me the price was only $26. For fresh, gourmet, homemade donuts and cinnamon rolls?! What a steal! Not only that, I was pleasantly surprised to see a few extra goodies thrown into one of my boxes. I'm not sure if they did that because they knew I was only in town for a couple of days, or because it was closer to the end of their day and they wanted to off-hand a few so that nothing gets thrown away. But my family and I appreciated it so very much! The donuts were incredibly fresh, super huge and soft, sweet, but not too sweet. They simply hit all the right notes. I'd consider moving to Mooresville just for the donuts alone! But in all seriousness, if you're craving something sweet and want to support an inclusive work environment, Down for Doughnuts is THE place. Support your local community and small businesses. After leaving here, my tummy was filled with sweets and my heart was filled with love. I will most definitely be back whenever I come to visit!

The menu is huge with tons of bagel and cream cheese options, plus plenty of specialty sandwiches if you don't feel like building your own. I grabbed the Italiano special, a cheesesteak with the works, and two Asiago bagels for the next day (they're closed Sundays, so plan ahead!). The Asiago bagels were excellent, even the next morning they held up to perfection. The cheesesteak had great flavor with peppers and onions, though I would've loved a little more meat and a little less bread. The Italiano was also really tasty, but my order wasn't quite right. I asked for no roasted tomatoes or olives and to add onions, but it came with the tomatoes and no onions. Honestly the no olives was the most important part so not the end of the world. I fixed it at home with some onions and fresh banana peppers from the garden... again not a big deal, but worth mentioning. I'm sure if I was eating at the location they would've fixed it immediately. For around $30, I got two sandwiches, two bagels, and the sandwiches even came with chips, which was a nice surprise. Easy parking, easy to find, lots of seating (but inside and out -- a few picnic tables on the patio) and while the inside isn't anything fancy, that's not why you're here. You're here for solid bagels, great sandwiches, and a local spot that's clearly doing something right. I'd definitely come back, especially to try one of their breakfast sandwiches next time.

They are actually plain bagel dough with hearty chunks of pretzel salt and it comes with mustard but I ask for a side of plain cream cheese. Plain and plain cream cheese for my Long Island-native significant other. That hates everything. And plain and plain cream cheese pretzel for my step-son who is a pretty agreeable kid, if you can get him to eat anything in the morning. A reasonably discerning crowd. I drop the bag of goodies off to my still sleeping S/O and then I let the 11-year old know there a bagel pretzel in his Dad's room. 10 minutes later my significant other reports the bagel is the best he's had outside of Long Island and the closest anyone in this area comes to a true NY bagel. Forget why he thought I would have gotten him 2 meals and nothing for anyone else. I tell the kid to hurry and grab a bite while he can. I think about the taste the entire rest of the day and still savor the buttery coating of the dough on my tongue. Normally when I can still taste food I've eaten in my mouth after, I'll brush my teeth to freshen up. But not after this. These bagels can stay on my mind, in my mouth. Dreaming of my next taste. Update: went back less than 24 hours later for an egg bagel with olive cream cheese for myself and I do have so pointers but they may just be my preference. First, egg bagel is good but the pretzel bagel with butter glaze and salt is immaculate. Will do the pretzel and get olive cream cheese instead of mustard going forward. Second, only the top of the bagel was cut in half. I love my cut all the way through but maybe keeping the bottom in one piece is better for the cream cheese or less mess, I dunno. But won't be a prob with my future pretzel order where I'll just dip. Third, would love a coffee but not in a styrofoam cup. I know that's better for keeping the temp and I respect that but I wonder if I could bring my own paper cup and lid and get a coffee on that. I know everything is toxic and leaching chemicals into our bodies but for me, this is one small thing I can avoid and do.
