Awesome public pool for the whole family to enjoy. I've been here twice now with my two kids. They've had a blast both times and we definitely plan on coming back. They have three separate pools - 25 meter lapping/diving pool, a recreation pool with some lapping lanes, a water slide for those at least 7+ and 48", and a kids play area pool with couple of slides, several water fountain structures in below knee level water. Locker rooms are relatively clean but can use some updating. There's bleachers with some shade for spectators and/or spot for your belongings (don't bring valuables). If you're interested in checking this pool out I would suggest reading their policies and regulations on their website so that you know what to expect and what to bring and what not to bring. It was reassuring to witness the staff run a drowning victim drill. They all appeared to take it very seriously, and were not goofing around in any way shape or form. Practice and preparation is key to staying disciplined and focused if a crisis presents itself. PS - location may be bit confusing - they're in the miramar college campus off black mountain rd. We originally went because we saw an ad for the really fantastic looking Toddler pool ("tot pool" as they call it). However, it was once again closed. However, when you drag 4 four-year-olds down to the pool, you're going to swim. They said that they had just added chemicals to the water and to call back for the tot pool next time. We went into the general swim pool. The rules are what made this a really tough experience on us. We were two moms with four toddlers who all know how to swim. I was in the water, and she was on the side, out of the water. However, pool rules state that If you have children under 7, they must be "within arms reach at all times" and their accompanying parent must be in the water with them. Us standing on the edge or putting our feet in right next to our kids was not enough. And even though I was already in the water with the kids the lifeguards insisted my friend get in the water too, or else we would be asked to leave, citing an unwritten rule that one parent could supervise a maximum of two children. We did have a decent time after that, but the strict rules really bummed out the kids. Even though they can all swim independently, they were restricted to a small section, denied the slide, and told they couldn't play on the water structure. I wish that we could sign a waiver or have the kids perform a swim test to be allowed more autonomy. The Lifeguards there hold to the 7 years old minimum absolutely, and insist that we be so close to our kids that they have little freedom to play. Hopefully we will return and have less restrictive play on the tot pool, but honestly, if it's closed, don't waste your money taking any kid under 7 there. read more

Called ahead for hours. I had multiple people coming for my sons birthday. About 5 people. We live in Chula Vista, so a good 40 minute+ drive. Skipped my sons nap for this, we show up and the toddler area is closed due to them putting to much chemicals in the pool. We get to tell our friends to turn around and I just wasted so much money and gas for this. Now I'm crying with my toddler in the car. YAY! read more

I've been living in this community for almost 10 years without knowing there's such an awesome kids pool within reach. Can't beat $4 for adults, $2 for children. It's also great to see Life Guards everywhere, they're strict in policy to ensure safety so I have high respect on that. 4 Stars because time is limited. read more

I have been swimming here for 17 years and it is wonderful. They have 3 pools depending upon your needs but I love how open it is so I can see all my kids. They have affordable swimming lessons if you can sign up in time. Also they have large locker rooms and showers. Tip- They don't allow floats for the kids. Also they don't sell any food. They can be popular for day camps and birthday parties so I would call ahead to make sure they are not at capacity. read more

My kids have been here for multiple swim lessons. The lessons are inexpensive, but offer very little individual attention. My kids have been to several lessons and still couldn't swim on their own. They learned more from our pool at home from us. Recently, my kids begged to come here and hang out at their splash zone. My four year old loved it, although the water is freezing. My six year old was almost too big for the stuff there, but enjoyed himself too. The lifeguards here are on a power trip. No fun allowed. I'm not talking about the normal no running, no diving, no holding someone under water stuff. You can't bring in any water toys here, or floaties. The kick boards, noodles, dive rings, etc. that they have available are for swim school students only, but are left out in the open in an unlocked cabinet. The water slide is never on, and they refused to turn it on. The regular swim area is really small, maybe 15x15. If you want to swim laps, there are a few lanes for that, unless it's swim practice or water polo time. The hours here are really limited and parking can be a bit of a PITA because it is on campus. Try the Rancho YMCA instead, way better value for the money and less cranky lifeguards. read more

WARNING: camp kids take over this pool every single weekday!!!! I'm talking 100 kids with like 7 adults. They are wild & its way too crowded to have an enjoyable time. They overrun the kiddie pool, they're constantly having swim tests in the activity pool. We literally couldn't find a spot to hang out. Don't waste your time. My experience at Ned Baumer only consisted of bringing my young 15 month old daughter swimming a couple times, however I have enjoyed using their kid and adult pool. I may not have enrolled in any of their programs, or used their large water slide, but I will say that having the children's pool even available is a plus in my book. I live close the other public pool in Carmel Valley, and their children's pool wasn't even open all summer ...hence I found myself 20 minutes away at Ned Baumer. The children's pool is great in opinion, and that of my toddler. My daughter and I love the little whale slide, and the overhead buckets that poor water on you. There is also a large "WaterWorld" like fort for kids to play and slide down on. Both times I went to Ned Baumer, there were no crowds, plenty of place to play, and chairs to lay out on. My only feedback is that the center should have longer hours. After Labor Day in San Diego, everyone nows it's still hot as magma outside, so having the pool open for only 4 hours on weekend afternoons makes it hard to get there on time and make the most of the pools. Otherwise, I definitely recommend Ned Baumer Aquatic Center for other families, especially on those blazing hot days. read more

Just like what others have said, the process of registration for swim classes is ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE at this place. Registration for classes begins at 12 p.m. on Saturdays. This is the 3rd time I come for registration, but every time I had to come and get in line by 9 a.m. and there would be already a line of people waiting in front of the door. Nevertheless, I got in line after trying to register on the online system. The online system only leaves a few available spots for online users to register, thus every time I would fail to get a spot for my child in Level 1. Today, I was in line waiting in front of the gate since 9 am (I was the 8th person there). Near 12 p.m., the employee passed out small sheets of paper for people to write out what classes they want and the times they prefer. I wrote out my child's name, address, the Level 1 class, and the time desired. There was a very very long wait due to the staff working extremely slow to get the line going. Eventually it was 12:30pm, and it was finally my turn. The lady took my sheet of paper and passed on to another girl at the computer table. She didn't seem willing to help and just wanted to move onto the next person. After my sheet of paper was passed onto the other girl, the lady at the front took in 2 sheets of paper from the man behind me. The man behind me quickly got offered a spot for his children in Level 1, but after waiting another 5 minutes, the girl inside informed me that my child is in the waiting list for Level 1. THIS IS SO UNFAIR! The sheets of paper were marked with numbers to indicate that who came first and who came after. However, the guy after me got TWO of his children into Level 1, while my child is placed in the waiting list even though we came before him! I am incredibly disappointed at the staff for providing such services to people who have been waiting in the sun for 4 hours (the entire morning basically). We could have spent those time doing something more productive instead of waiting and then going home with NO CLASS! Each swim class is 2 weeks and it costs $54, that is NOT CHEAP! I don't know how this place is still being run like this in 2019, but please change the way your registration process works and provides better customer service! read more

Looking for a community pool close by to take the kids to and came upon this place. It was a little hard to find at first because it's tucked away on some college campus. The open swim hours are limited, something like 12p to 4p on saturdays. Admission is $4 for adults (even if you're not planning on going in the water you still have to pay to get in) and $2 for kids. There's a regular pool for the kids to splash around in, a deep lap pool with several lanes, and a shallow kiddie area with a little clam slide that my youngest absolutely loved, a bucket structure that dumped water on the kids below and another play structure complete with a slide and several water spouts spraying water. The pool water felt warm and heated but the kiddie area water was cold which didnt seem to bother my kids just like how cold san diego ocean water doesnt seem to affect them either. The kids had fun and they didn't want to leave so we'll more than likely be back again. They offer a deal where you get 10 swims for $30 for adults good for one year from the time of purchase and accepted at all the city pools. read more

We decided to check this spot out on a Sunday afternoon when the kids were bouncing off the walls. It is on the Miramar College campus, but open to the public for a very reasonable $4/adult and $2/kid fee (bring cash). There is a lap pool that was in use for water polo when we came, and 2 "rec" pools -- one zero-depth-entry (like a beach shore) with two small slides and play structure, and a slightly deeper pool with a larger water slide. There is limited shade, and very limited seating aside from bleachers by the lap pool... I ended up sitting on the concrete poolside for lack of options. I'm not sure if you are allowed to bring in chairs or not. Despite it being a very warm day, my kids had blue lips and were shivering so the water is definitely unheated. They have shower rooms, but we didn't use them so I can't comment on them. Overall it is a very nice setup and a good deal for the facilities, as long as you know to be prepared. read more

This place is awesome! I take the little monsters here all the time. Even when there are field trips or camps here for the day there is plenty of room. And even better is when you get there and there are only a few people there. The pool is nice and warm and the lifegaurds are attentive. There is ample room in the locker rooms and plenty of showers and bathroom facilities. The pools and play structure are always clean, the kids always have a blast! read more

I really want to like this place - it is such a beautiful place and the kiddie pool is really nice for young children. But every time I've gone, it's been a huge disappointment that has been a waste of a day - seriously, don't waste your time! Almost every time I've tried to go, they are either full and won't let anyone else in, have a rowdy school full of kids there, or the kiddie pool is closed. On the two (out of probably 10 attempts) that we were able to get in, my kids got bad diarrhea both times afterwards!! As the previous reviewer said, the lifeguards are horrible, mean, and ruin any chance that you may have a semi-good time there. You have to keep your young children at arms-length at all times and they are not allowed to use any flotation devices - despite the fact that the other city pools allow them! If you are looking for a good family friendly city pool, Carmel Valley has a splash pool plus a zero entry for kids and the lifeguards & manager are MUCH nicer - I will never go back to Ned Baumer!! read more

This pool is probably one of the nicer city pools, if not the nicest. There are three DIFFERENT pools; a lap pool, medium pool with a big yellow slide, and a children's pool. Yes, it is a city pool so there are some rules that are enforced by the lifeguards but nothing crazy. Admission is pretty cheap, only $2 for kids and $4 for adults. My neices and nephews took swim lessons here and all the instructors are super nice and you can tell they love to teach. I don't know why it got so little stars but this place is definitely underrated and is one of the lesser known city pools since it is connected to the college. read more

My kids took swimming lessons here this past summer and they loved it! The teachers were very good and very effective. One of my sons was afraid of the water and now, he loves to put his face in the water and blow bubbles and even jump in! My other son already loved the water, but had no idea how to stroke. Now he knows how to stroke and is working on how to breathe while doing so. My only complaints would be the registration process - online doesn't always work. They do have on-site registration, but it is painstakingly slow. The workers are very helpful, though. Also, in the middle of one of the sessions, they made a rule that boys over the age of 5 could not be in the women's locker room. That made if very hard for me to shower my kids and get on with our day, since by boys are 4 and 6. I did not feel comfortable letting my 6 year old shower by himself in the men's locker room - especially since the showers in there are just open - no stalls. The workers offered for us to use the showers on the deck - in public eye. Thanks, but no thanks. Plus, they don't have hot water in the showers on the deck. read more
