I want to first say that I am leery of auto shops. I've replaced motors, rewired cars, and just about anything else you can do on a car myself so I avoid overpriced shops like the plague. After relocating recently though, I no longer had access to anywhere to work on my own vehicle. After contacting several shops, I was refused from bringing in my own parts. I only buy top of the line parts, and after working in shops before, I knew that many cut corners and buy cheaper parts. No one I spoke too allowed my own parts even if I provided part numbers so they could verify. I even told them they don't have to warranty the parts, I just need them to install them. After several weeks of looking, I finally came across Matt. I gave him a call and made an appointment. Matt showed up right on time but I wanted to speak with him before he started as I've never used a mobile mechanic before and I really just wanted to make sure he knew his stuff before he got started. Needless to say, he knows his stuff and was well prepared with tools. I had him replace the front struts, lower ball joints, and outer tie rod ends on an '04 Taurus. He also switched out an oil pressure sensor that was leaking and in a spot that I didn't want to contort to, to reach myself. One of the ball joints was rusted in place, so he came back the next day with a torch and cut it off. Labor was reasonable (still less than a shop) and I was very pleased with his work. He even called me outside (he did the work at my work) to look over everything to make sure he was pleased before he re-installed everything. Overall, I am very pleased with his work. It was done timely, and more importantly, the right way. Unlike many mechanics (who are usually pretty gruff) he is very friendly and easy to talk to. First time I ever used a mobile mechanic and it was the coolest thing ever! Matt came to fix my alternator and I expected a guy with some tools to come here and wrestle my car for 4 hours til it was done. Instead, I got a pro with record speed and high quality work! It was nuts! Matt had that alternator (07 Odyssey) out like it was his tenth that day! The guy knew his stuff, he was super helpful and very polite. I was cussing like a sailor and he never once dropped an F bomb with me. That's professionalism in my book. All in all his price and turn time was lower/faster than my usual and very reputable mechanic . He had the job done within 2hrs (with small talk intervals). Add the fact that I didn't need to call a tow truck to haul my van to a shop and I'd say using Matt is a no-brainer! Definitely recommend using him. PS. I want to share a personal anecdote about Need a Brake Owner/Operator Chad Dennis. I had gone into an auto parts store in Cedar Park in March of 2014 and asked the guys behind the counter some questions about removing some surface spotting on my hood. The employees had not a clue, so Chad--who was at the counter making his own purchase--walked me to a product he recommends, and then took the time to actually show me how to use it, even supplying some cloths from his truck! The product is labeled for a different use, and only a pro would have known the tricks he showed me. He refused to take any money for potentially saving me hundreds of dollars, and was extremely candid an honest about how to avoid similar problems in the future. This review is way past overdue! Matt is an amazing and reliable mechanic. I first met him when he was taking care of a small fleet of vans for the company I worked for. I could call him out to take care of the technician vans instead of taking them to a shop and them be out of use and the company losing money for a few days. He also has worked on my own vehicle plenty. There is nothing better than not only have a mechanic come to you to fix a problem instead of having to take off work to go to a shop and be stuck in a small, smelly waiting area but also know without a doubt that they are genuine and honest as well. It's like being spoiled to know while I'm sitting at my desk getting work done that Matt is fixing my A/C so by the time I get off work I won't have to drive home in 100-degree weather with no cold air keeping me from passing out from heat exhaustion (all for a surprisingly reasonable price too). One time my truck even broke down at a gas station in front of a pump and I could tell the owner of the gas station wasn't all that happy that I was blocking one of his pumps from other customers. Matt came as quick as he could after he finished up with the customer he was with and had my truck up and running in no time. You just simply can't beat that kind of service. I took my car in to a local dealer to have my state inspection and an oil change done. Included was a however-many-point inspection, the result of which told me, among other things, that two of my brake calipers were seized, all of my brake pads needed to be replaced, and the rotors needed to be resurfaced. And the dealer was happy to do this for $2700. When would I like to make an appointment? The inspection also pointed out that all of my tires were worn and would need to be replaced soon. Since I had just had two of the tires the replaced with brand new ones two days before, I decided that maybe I should get a second opinion about the brakes. Enter Need a Brake. I do not know very much about cars. So when my truck started vibrating and the check engine light came on, I had no idea what was going on. I am also in college, so on a tight budget, and not where my dad can come and take me to a mechanic. But Need a Brake truly was a God send! My professor knew him, and gave me his card. I had just come out of Walgreens with my 4 year old autistic son and had to rush home to bring my mom (just diagnosed with cancer) some medicine. To my surprise, my car would not start at all. I was in a real bad place since I had nobody to call and my poor son does not do well waiting.
