a plate of meat and rice

I was so excited to eat Iranian food here but it was far from what I had hoped for. The kashkebadjaan appetizer was ok at best. Not at all what I've always had elsewhere. We ordered koobideh and barg kabab. Neither was seasoned or piping hot like it should be. I literally relied on salt to add some flavor to the meat. Alongside the rice came a quarter of a grilled tomatoe and onion. I've never seen such tiny portion before of vegetables before in a $25 platter. Usually you get the entire onion and a tomato. While noting was terrible, it was not great either and for the price, it's just a shame.

It's a small, family run place with excellent food. We started off by ordering appetizers of Hummus and kashk-e-bademjan (puréed eggplant) served with pita. Both were very good! This is a BYOB, so the wine was perfect with this. For entrees, my wife and I both ordered Kabob-e-barg, which was marinated pieces of filet mignon, served with Basmati rice. My wife also ordered a small salad. The rice was amazing! I really enjoyed that and the salad which we split. We had to order the homemade baklava for dessert...great way to top off the meal! Morristown has so many great restaurant options. Every time we come here we always say that we should come here more often. With parking garages, it's always easy to come here, park, and walk around the town. If you're coming here, Marjan is a good choice for a delicious meal.

The service is very attentive. Right when we sat down the host gave us water which was nice. The waiter was a little too attentive, kept coming up to us to ask if we were ready to order when we were not, and just kept coming and coming every two minutes. They give complimentary flat bread which is tasty. Our Persian friend mentioned usually Persian restaurants give the bread with herbs and feta rather than just plain. We did find on the menu the herbs and feta was an extra cost. We had the kebab combo and subbed cherry rice and salad (which is cucumbers and tomatoes) and also exchanged the ground chicken kebab for a chicken breast kebab. The standout was the steak kebab and the cherry rice. There were so many cherries in the rice, and it was both sweet and savory. I couldn't stop eating it. The steak was super juicy and well seasoned. I also really like the roasted tomato on the side, basil and pickled cabbage. We ordered a stew, think it was Ghormeh sabzi. It had a bunch of herbs in it, and beans and a dried lime. Was told not to eat the lime. It was a very strong and rich stew, I took a couple of bites. Don't think I could have eaten the whole thing. It's very strong. It's our friend's favorite Persian dish and she loved it. There was one dish we wanted that they ran out of but they gave us a couple of dollars off the bill which was nice. The kebab platter came with koobideh, barg and chicken with subbed the white rice for cherry rice which turned out to be the star of the show. Even as a Persian, I have never had that rice before.Somehow, and it quickly became delicious. And I immediately text my mom and asked her why she had never made it for me lol We also got ghormeh sabzi which as I told my friends can be hit or miss in flavor and if they would actually like a stew like this. They both actually enjoyed it, and I thought it was pretty close to my mom's recipe. The only sad thing was that we ordered tahdig but the table next to us had ordered 2 large plates and they had no more, which was odd given it was only 1pm and the restaurant opens at 11am. Overall good experience, love that they played Persian music to give it a real deal feel. Will be back!

The country's cuisine reflects its multicultural history, with influences from Persian, Central Asian, Indian, and even Mediterranean culinary traditions. Though the food was served quickly, it wasn't made quickly. Rice, particularly long-grain varieties like basmati, is blanched for a day before it's cooked. Meats are marinated in carefully prepared concoctions for hours to ensure tenderness. Lamb shanks are stewed for hours each day. Never had Afghan food? You're not alone. There are only a handful of Afghan restaurants in NJ. Located at the Westfield Plaza off of South Avenue E, some of my colleagues decided on takeout as first-timers for lunch, which came recommended as the food tastes and feels like home from this family-owned and -run establishment. We called the order in for their family platter consisting of Ground Chicken, Lamb and Beef Kababs, Garden Salad, Brown Rice, Fresh Naan Bread, and a side of Potatoes with a red sauce and yogurt. Upon arrival at Famous Kabab Cuisine, my colleague and I were greeted by the owner, Ahmed, who has more than 25 years of experience in making fresh bread and kabob, and informed us of a 5-minute wait. The food remained hot back into the office, would feed 5, and have some for leftovers. The kebabs (ground chicken, beef, and lamb) were well seasoned, tasted delicious, and paired beautifully with the brown rice. Top that bread or kebab with the trio of sauces. A white yogurt sauce with dill is very reminiscent of tzatziki sauce, a vinegary green sauce with cilantro and pureed walnuts, and, for those who do want the heat, a red habanero sauce that should have come with a warning. Overall, one can tell the food was made fresh with quality ingredients. It is not cheap, but one gets decent portions, which we can recommend.

On paper, the bolani description doesn't sound like much, but it's a flavorful, fragrant flatbread stuffed with potatoes and spices. The additional dipping sauces made it all the more tasty. I ordered the Soltani Kabob with Naringe Palaw rice. My meal arrived completely wrong. It was missing the Shami Kabob that is included in the dish, it came with Kabli Palaw instead of Naringe Palaw rice, and the meat was badly burned. Two members of my family ordered Combination #2 from the menu. Not only were both meals missing the Shami Kabob, but they arrived after the rest of our table had already finished eating. Imagine sitting and watching everyone else eat while waiting for your own meal, only for it to arrive incomplete. My son's Combination Kabob was also severely burned. We also ordered bread with the meal. Despite asking for it multiple times, it didn't arrive until after we had already finished dinner, making it completely pointless. What made this experience even worse was the complete lack of customer service. I explained how disappointed I was and how embarrassed I felt because I had invited my family there. No one apologized, no one explained what had gone wrong, and no one made any effort to correct the situation. The only response I repeatedly heard was, "Wait, the food is coming," even though two members of our party didn't receive their meals until everyone else had already finished eating. Mistakes can happen at any restaurant. What separates a good restaurant from a bad one is how they handle those mistakes. Unfortunately, Silk Road failed on every level: incorrect orders, burned food, extremely delayed meals, missing items, and no apology or attempt to make things right. After this experience, I cannot recommend this restaurant and will not be returning.
