The stuffed feta dates were the good balance of sweet and savory, and the eggplant dip was incredibly smooth and rich without feeling heavy. A little extra seasoning could go a long way with the dip! For mains, the salmon was beautifully cooked and well-seasoned, and the lamb shank was a standout--tender, deeply flavorful, and comforting in the best way. The falafel had a great crisp on the outside while staying soft inside. You can really tell they put care into each dish. What made the night extra special was the birthday surprise: the sweetest baklava presentation that felt so warm and personal. It was such a thoughtful touch. We used to go here some years ago when it was in Elmsford. The new location in White Plains is more convenient for us, and the quality of the food is excellent. Persian cuisine is delicious, and there are many specialties on the menu, served efficiently and with joy. There is a large selection of wines: We prefer the Shiraz from Australia. Be aware that the prices are rather high, but also be aware that you're paying for quality cuisine. We got three appetizers, which prompted me to order a Persian noodle soup as my main dish, and it was plenty, though my wife let me taste her beef kabob, which made it all the more satisfying. Visited this establishment with my friend to catch up and chat after a workout class. It was a Sunday evening and the restaurant was pretty empty, which made us feel like we had the entire place to ourselves, perfect for girl talk. The menu was filled with so many options it was hard to choose. We both decided to get items that we could share, which worked out great. The wine glasses were so cute, large and fancy. A Wednesday night in November our 4 Union College classmates (Class of '82) met at Shiraz. We arrived in time for Happy Hour and enjoyed Martini's and Wine (very reasonably priced) along with some bar apps, Falafel and Hummus ($5/each). Oh, the Martini was your choice of liquor too, not well liquor. I had the Grey Goose, slightly dirty, with plain olives. Oscar made a delicious Martini!! We were seated at a 4 top in the main dining room and were immediately greeted by our server. One of our classmates is an expert in wine so we let him choose from the expansive wine selections, a nice white to go along with our entrees as we all ordered the Branzino. Perfectly seared branzino with long slices of Zucchini to complement. We also ordered 2 of the special rice dishes. One with Fava Beans and the other with Cherries. They were both very good choices, a little dry, but tasty just the same. They have a location in NYC that I will try with my family on my next visit and we were very pleased with our night, our dinner, the service, and the quality of the food. Not sure I understand a 1* review for this fine establishment but restaurants, like art, are all in the eyes of the beholder. Judge for yourself. Food was delicious! Party of 8 and we called 10 minutes prior to arrival and they got a table ready for us! My kids had the chicken soup and the ground beef kabob with fried potato slices. I had the ground beef and chicken kabob with rice and everything was good. For appetizers we tried the labneh yogurt which was good. But the miraz eggplant dip was amazing. Chicken wings with some spicy pomegranate sauce was yummy. The peach salad was very very good. My friends loved the Cornish hen and their cherry rice. Shiraz Kitchen is a great Persian restaurant located on bustling Mamaroneck Avenue. We celebrated a friend's milestone birthday here and it was lovely. The ambiance is minimalist chic. The service is attentive and friendly. And the food is delicious. We started with orders of the mirza (super flavorful), the hummus, and the dolmeh, as well as the Mediterranean Crunch Salad for appetizers. Everyone but me ordered the lamb shank for the entree and you could just see the meat fall off the bone; they all sang its praises. I was the oddball who ordered the salmon, and it was a surprisingly huge portion that was cooked to perfection and served with grilled asparagus and a Tehran spice sauce on the side. There's not much parking along Mamaroneck Avenue, but there is a metered lot on Mitchell nearby. That lot, however, only allows up to 2 hours. I would definitely return to Shiraz. The perfect meal while visiting White Plains. Upscale without feeling fussy, the service was the great mix of homey feel with thoughtful suggestions and delicious food. We tried the dips, with fresh hot bread, the eggplant with goat cheese, falafel, and a great salad which looked like a Caesar but had a light mustardy-dressing which really impressed me. The kabob was great, but the star of the show was the rice - I had almond and pistachio which was amazing. Whoa one of my worst Yelp finds. Given the reviews I thought we were in for a real treat, and especially given the high prices! The coldest service I have ever seen in my life....and it was Mother's Day no less! The pita bread served with the dip tasted stale. The dip itself was way too salty. The Shiraz salad -- tomatoes were light orange, not red or even ripe. Dressing had no tasted. Tiny potion and definitely the worst salad I've had in a restaurant. The chicken dishes-- all overcooked and tough. Rice was overcooked and mushy. Wine was good. And the atmosphere was nice. I like to end on a high note. This wasn't our first time at Shiraz; we have been fans since their original location in Elmsford. We went to the White Plains location last night, Valentine's Day. First of all, kudos to Reza (the owner) and team for not running one of those over-the-top special event menus where the prices double. The restaurant was jammed without being chaotic as the staff was more than capably handling a big night. We ordered the hummus to start because we cannot find any better around the Westchester area. It's velvety and the grilled pita always does the trick. Drizzled with olive oil, zaatar, and two olives, it makes a wonderful appetizer. Plenty to get you going without being too much. It's enough for four even though there were just two of us. We shared the branzino and the chicken sultani. The piece of branzino was worth noting due to the size. There's no skimping here. It was pan seared perfectly with crispy skin and edges while the rest was light and flaky. Not overly seasoned so the taste was delicate with an extra lemon for preference (which I love). The zucchini side was thinly sliced and grilled, again not overly seasoned to hide flavors. The chicken sultani is always a must-get. I don't even know why I check the menu. It's two skewers of meat: one with chicken and the other beef. I asked Reza when he was going to start cooking classes because I can never get chicken this flavorful and moist. Serious magic in an everyday like chicken. The beef was equally flavorful. I ordered one of their special rice sides, Shirin, which was basmati with pistachio and almond, seasoned with orange zest. I cursed myself for not allowing myself to order this in prior visits. It's that good. Cannot recommend that enough. Thankfully, I have leftovers! We skipped dessert last night but in prior visits, we love their gelatos and tartufos (pistachio). Apologies for no pictures. Next time... Thank you again, Reza and team. We had a lovely dinner here on a Tuesday evening. The restaurant has pretty twinkling string lights in the front window. We didn't have reservations, but were seated right away. There were only two or three other parties there. I enjoyed my drink. It tasted like a spicy margarita and was topped with dehydrated peppers. My sister got the Made By Grandma cocktail and enjoyed the tartness. My mom got the mango mocktail, but it had too much ice and the flavor was very watered down. To start, we shared the mast bademjoon. I am not usually an eggplant fan, but this preparation was smooth and melted in your mouth, especially with the creamy yogurt topping. Though the eggplant was fried, it was not crispy. The appetizer was served with warm pita bread. This bread was slightly charred, fluffy, and delicious. It paired perfectly with the eggplant. For my main, I got the falafel polo. It was a generous portion size. However, the dish definitely could've used a different sauce as it was quite dry and not super flavorful. The falafel were nice and crispy, but the accompanying tahini sauce was bitter. The acidity of the pickled cucumbers helped to balance out the dish, but overall it felt like it was missing something. My mom and sister shared the Divan. This is a pricey dish, but worth it to sample the various meats and veggies. They enjoyed everything. They said the lamb shank was particularly tender. We came here this evening for dinner. It was our first time. We were greeted right away. There weren't too many folks inside the restaurant, but I can see that they had a beautiful bar, tables were beautifully decorated. Once we were seated, we were greeted right away by our server. They had an excellent cocktail menu. Had the hearts of fire, really good. We decided to try the yogurt and cucumber dip which was delicious. The saffron wings were very good and the hot sauce that came with it was on point. Had the perfect kick! For dinner we had the filet mignon kebab and the beef Sultani kebab with basmati rice. Before the meal: We made a reservation for myself, my husband and our toddler. We called ahead and asked about a high chair. We were about 8 minutes late. The hostess apologised to us for how bad parking is. Isn't that gracious? It wasn't even their fault. During the meal: Then we were seated they gave us cucumber roll for our toddler, that was thoughtful. Impatient toddlers make for terrible guests lol. The waitstaff was kind enough to describe unfamiliar dishes to us. We ordered: beef sultani and shandiz. The food arrived in a timely fashion and was plated beautifully. Our son was pleased. We told them that my husband was fasting and they made sure to bring his food right before his fast is broken. That was so accommodating, and they didn't even have to! Portion size is large! Definitely enough to take home for the next day, or shareable. It was seasoned well, they made this green sauce too. They told us it was freshly blended with tarragon, yogurt and other spices. It tastes very fresh. Delicious. Even though they were busy, they made sure to check on us in a timely fashion and make sure we were comfortable. Came here late on a Thursday night with friends. It was pretty empty and we were seated immediately. For appetizers, we did the $3 for $30 mezze platter and chose hummus, eggplant dip and spinach dip. We enjoyed all of them, especially mixing the hummus and spinach dip! The eggplant dip was great on its own. For an entrees, I got the striped bass with rice and my friends got the lamb stew with rice and the branzino with fries. Everything was delicious and we each enjoyed our meals. The rice was so flavorful! For dessert we got the roulette cake. It was a little dry for our liking. We were craving some comforting Persian food and made reservations for this popular place! It was pretty packed when we got here, definitely a good call to get reservations beforehand. It is a VIBE here! Staff members are so friendly and nice. Got to learn a little bit about everyone and shared where we were from, such nice bantering! They also let us know what their favorite dishes were. We ordered: DOLMEH Dolmeh Fresh grape leaves stuffed with rice and lemon juice. Great vegetarian app! Could have used a little more spice in the rice. Topped with pickled vegetables. I was not a fan of the pickled vegetables and thought it made the lemon juice in the dish have more of a vinegar taste to it. FRESH HERB Fresh Herb This is fresh herb plate of mint, basil, tarragon, scallion, spreadable feta, walnuts and crunchy radishes. The pita was just baked and nothing beats freshly baked pita. You just add a little bit of everything from the fresh herb plate and top your pita with it and the flavors are just phenomenal. KASHK-E-BADEMJOON Kashk-e-Bademjoon This is a super flavorful, but hearty fried eggplant dip. Finger licking good, topped with fried onion, garlic and whey. Just layer after layer of deliciousness. My new favorite dip if you ask me! MAST-O-BADEMJOON Mast-o-Bademjoon This is also fried eggplant, but with yogurt dip. Simply delicious with the pita and herb plate! FILLET MIGNON Fillet Mignon This was such a tender and delicately spiced tenderloin. With a nice lightly, charred crust, each bite was just meat heaven. The bed of saffron basmati rice paired very well with every bite of the tenderloin. GROUND BEEF KOOBIDEH Ground Beef Koobideh Skewers of seasoned ground beef that are pretty similar to ground kebabs, but the Persian spices used to season the meat were sooo exotic. Nothing like I've had before! GHORMEH SABZI Ghormeh Sabzi I love this heart beef and herb stew, but I thought all the usual aromatic spices were missing their mark. It's still a yummy dish, but was missing the fenugreek and different earthy herbs and spices that usually make this dish so wonderful. The beef could have been a little more tender. Disappointed I didn't have a single piece of dried lime ball to make this dish more authentic and true to its roots. I think if you've never had this dish it's definitely worth a try, but if you're craving the rich and heartiness of Ghormeh Sabzi, I'd skip on this one. All in all, dinner was a wonderful experience and definitely worth a try if you are finding yourself wanting Persian food in New York! read more
