Instead of checking to see if I was ok, she slumped her shoulders and stared at the wall without a word. I knew right away that she was quite irritated by my audacity to react to pain. The dentist came in shortly after and began rattaling off a long list of everything that was wrong. She became more and more agitated about the issues. I was confused as this was the first I heard of it. Something felt off, and I indicated I was going to speak with my perio. I told them later I was going to get a 2nd opinion. I got a call from the dentist shortly afterward. Good on her for calling quickly and not sending it to someone else. The dentist proceeded to lecture me that because the hygenist was wearing a mask, there was no way I could know she was agitated. She was defending her employee, fair enough, but I know human body language, and I knew what her stance meant. There was no uncertainty. I had a better experience with the new dentist. She saw me shaking in the chair with anxiety from my previous experience, and with compassion, she quickly indicated that it's not as bad as it was made out to be, and we have just discussed a plan with my perio. Because of the trauma from here, I NOW require nitrious at any and all appointments out of fear of being made to feel pain with zero compassion.

I think I once received a check from my insurance company for $30.00. Dental insurance is a joke anyway. It was suggested to me to remove all of my teeth and get dentures. The good part...when I contacted City Square for records, x-rays and my treatment plan I received a form letter to sign for a release AND a $20.00 charge. Really?? I know I had only spent about $3,000, but it seemed like it might be a courtesy to send them. That is when the backpedaling and lies began. Now I felt like I was dealing with a used car lot. So my recommendation to you is absolutely ask every possible question. Another person who works in the field told me they absolutely do not take insurance. I will not trust again. Like so many things, you are their best friend until S____ gets real. Beware. .

He left the room and came back with a special balloon for her which instantly made her feel more comfortable. He has a kind and gentle demeanor that makes kids and parents feel comfortable. Another great quality is that they are very open and upfront about costs and what your insurance (or dental discount plan) will and will not cover. That takes a huge stress off trying to manage the health and finances of your family. They are very kid friendly, but also very professional. It's been 5 years now and even with all the cavities my kids have had they do not fear the dentist. From the receptionists to the dentists everyone is kind and friendly. I also love that they've never once scolded my kids for being a kid. They will ask them to stop misbehaving if I'm concentrating on the billing or speaking with the dentist, but it's never said as a way to shame the child or the parent and to me this kind of positive influence from professionals is essential.

Mostly because of the pain and possibility of receiving news that is unsettling or downright scary. So when Thanksgiving loomed around the corner and I felt some sharp pains around the back of my jaw, I instinctively knew that most likely it was time to visit my dentist and see an oral surgeon check on my wisdom teeth. Sure enough, all 4 impacted teeth needed to be removed, otherwise, my grills would be looking worse off than a loose jigsaw puzzle. I was referred to Dr. LaTocha by my dentist and a couple of friends of mine who had gone to him. Even though perhaps he might be a bit on the gruff side and somewhat scary with his remarks (sorry, I don't have perfect gums/teeth - genetics do play a part and I do brush and floss), overall, I was satisfied with the surgery results and came away f without experiencing any pain. Yes, the inside of my mouth/cheeks were torn up from the surgery and it was a much bloodier mess than I anticipated, but as a patient, I thought the overall experience was smooth. I didn't have any pain after the surgery nor did I have need to use my prescription Vicodin. The ibuprofen was sufficient. When I sensed an infection and part of my jaw was swollen, his office was quick to get me in and have an antibiotic prescribed to me. Dr. LaTocha shares offices in several locations throughout Lake County, so he is a journeyman of sorts. You just have to make sure he's at the office that you prefer, or be willing to be wherever he is. His office staff are nice enough and the facilities are well-maintained. He does accept all major insurance and does have affordable payment plans, I think, for those not insured.
