Every time I visited my friend in New Jersey, I passed by this place thinking, "How cute is this store?" I didn't even realize it was a small breakfast spot. One day, we finally decided to stop in for breakfast. The space is very cute and quaint, and they also have a small section selling snacks and little knickknacks. The way the place operates is a bit different, you serve yourself coffee, place your order deli-style, and pay upfront like a diner. They bring the food to your table, but there isn't much table service. It was slightly confusing at first, but it didn't take away from the overall experience. That said, it was a bit disappointing that the table wasn't clean. We had a baby with us, and when we wiped the table down, the baby wipe turned brown, not something you want to see. The food selection on their menu reflects the small town knickknack appeal, with its varying diversity. You will also find plenty of treats for sale near the counter. The dining area had plenty of space with wide tables, whether on their own or in the booths. Food: 4/5 I ordered the Aztec Specialty Omelet, consisting of jalapeno chips, fried onion, spinach, pepper jack. with a side of toast. Initially I ordered orange Juice, but also include a bottle of water considering the hot jalapeno chips and fried onions. Every well-cooked of the omelet definitely gives it a unique spin, though the buttered toast had an unassuming taste and crunch. The pepperjack cheese brings its hardy flavor to this flavor-packed dish. The Aztec Specialty Omelet held its form, even as I cut into it. Considering how Colts Neck General Store houses many unique knickknacks, I can definitely see how one of those items may have inspired this dish, for the Mexican influence has a pronounced presence. The time it took to prepare this dish accurately matched the waiting time, and the service behind it ensured that I received the meal with my choice of side dishes. The Aztec Specialty Omelet managed to satisfy for a little bit throughout the day. Service: 5/5 The staff managed to get my order without any issues, including asking me specific questions about which side dish I wanted. Based on first impressions, I will say that I felt accommodated while feeling immersed in a small town paradise. The wait time did not try my patience. I cannot say for certain whether the staff dust the knickknacks, but I will say that nothing about the ambiance irritated me, so I presume that they care for them. The wall sign better represents the store than the tall sign, and if the eatery did make a website, I hope it is used for the brand. After a long wedding weekend, I finally found a breakfast sandwich that hit the spot! Food: my wife and I both got BECs but I really enjoyed the volume of food and how actually delicious it was. I always do mine with chipotle/spicy mayo and the mayo actually had significantly flavor to it. Service: everyone from the food counter to the front was so nice! It was such a pleasant experience. Walk back in time to a mom and pop shop that serves fresh, delicious food and sells kitchy stuff and gourmet spices and jams, and this is what you walk into. You almost feel like you are in the country even though you're 5 minutes away from McMansion suburbia. This is a cool little local place that quite frankly I didn't know was there. Good thing I found out about it from my cousin because they have some good stuff here. I would stick with breakfast since it was on point. The taylor ham egg and cheese was really good. The taylor ham was thick and there was plenty of it. This is a simple sandwich but you know when it is done right. I also ordered the meatball parm sub and it was also pretty good. It looks like they have a bunch of hot food items like sausage and peppers, meatball parm, etc. I'm pretty sure they make this fresh daily so come get it while you can. The portions are also massive so you won't leave hungry. They have a huge menu so they have every sandwich you can think of. This is a cool local spot that does it right. Excellent deli within a very historical general store located within the heart of Colts Neck. I've been passing this location my entire life but only recently decided to drop in and actually check it out. They have the full range of deli type cold drinks and chips. Of course it's the deli counter that truly wows. They have a truly complete menu with everything from your traditional deli sandwich to hamburgers. I decided to order their California Chicken Sandwich which was a nice chicken breast on a hard roll with lettuce, onion and Mayo. It came with a small bag of classic Wise potato chips. Let me just say the sandwich was delicious. The interior store btw is full of little knick knacks which add to the "general store" appeal. A couple of my co-workers and I stopped in for late lunch on a Wednesday after working in the area. We are in the area once or twice a year and they had been here before. Upon walking in, I loved the old school charm and the rustic look. Who doesn't like the look of an authentic general store? The nostalgic signs, candies from yesteryear, and good old customer service. There was a plethora of creative sandwiches, wraps, muffins, and hot breakfast items on the chalkboard above the kitchen. I had the Western Omelet with potatoes and rye toast. My co-workers had a very meat filled wrap and a fat burger with onion rings. Plenty of wooden tables and chairs are available as you walk by their coffee bar. Prices were reasonable and I thank them for sending some memories my way. This won't be my last visit. Come here on my lunch break sometimes, and I don't really have anything bad to say about the place. I've gotten a few different things on the menu. Grilled chicken sandwiches, roast beef sandwiches, and some of their hot food. The food is pretty good and the atmosphere in the place gives me an "in the woods" kinda feel that's different but kinda cool at the same time. Sandwiches are always freshly made which causes a small wait, but that's a good thing. If you call ahead they can have it ready for you when you get there. I wish this place was good. It's cute and close but really gross food!! I gave it another try this morning and I ordered extra cheese and very very light ketchup. They always charge for the extra cheese but only give one slice and clearly huge amounts of ketchup. "Toasted roll" usually doesn't mean BURNT, at least not in my opinion. Have been here several times now for work lunch and the food is just ok. The prices are high but that's not unusual for this area. The best deal I got was when the hot food of the day was a roasted half chicken with rice and I think vegetables. That was really good! But the cold deli sandwiches and breakfast omelets are nothing special and didn't really have me craving for more. They have some really crazy breakfast sandwiches that I haven't tried but that's because they are unappealing to me. Also, the customer service could be better. When they are really busy, which they usually are during lunch, the lady at the counter can be really quick with you and not very friendly.
