Solid deli with generous portions of classic favorites at the right price. Booth seating (kind of like a pizza shop) gives options to stay or take out. I give a huge salute to their quality fresh bread! I hate getting a sandwich and not being able to bite through a chewy roll. The people behind the counter were very friendly, and quick to serve and make my food. I have some reservations about calling this an "Italian deli". Sure there's prosciutto and mozz & tomato sandwiches on the menu, but Italians are know for heavy handed portions and authentic ingredients. My tomato and mozz sandwich was delicious, but very light on tomato with very small roasted peppers and a scant amount of chopped basil. On top of that, a creamy balsamic dressing. For an authentic touch, I need a few full basil leaves, a heftier bite of peppers and some true balsamic vinegar. I'd also expect the display case to have some more ready made salads and sides: gardiniera, broccoli rabe, roasted peppers, etc. If I'm in the area looking for a sandwich to bring to the beach or on the go, Neil's will be on my list. read more

I don't like avacado's, period. SOMEHOW, I LOOOOVED Neil's guacamole! I FORCED people who also do not like avacado's and guacamole and every single one of them loved it & couldn't get enough. Deeeelicious specialty subs and sandwiches - even the ones with chicken (which tends to make me nauseous- but not his). We had eggplant and chicken parm sandwich specials, that come with 2 pretty good pickles and an ok macaroni salad. The subs were excellent, with good gravy, plenty of chicken and eggplant, all on very crusty bread. They used fresh mozz too which added to the very tasty flavor. Staff is friendly, place is clean. Best deli in the area. I was dumb and didn't look at the hours. I drove 20 moms for a sandwich then realized they are closed Sunday's when I got there. Best subs in NJ, hands down,nobody even close to Neil's! My favorites are the sautéed eggplant, the pastrami and Swiss and the hamburger sub. They are all equally amazing. The roast pork with provolone and caramelized onion with gravy is also great. I have not had anything bad. Everything is homemade and it shows. The craziest thing though is the macaroni salad. It's like magic! It's not mayonaisy or gloppy it's perfect with carrots and onion. Awesome! I usually throw the macaroni salad away at delis but not here, I cant get enough! Neil's Kitchen is a gourmet Italian deli that also provides catering . They use fresh ingredients and even bring in fresh baked bread from Brooklyn. Their sandwiches and other offerings are delicious. We, as well as our friends, have used them to cater our events and the platters are beautifully presented. A must have if you're catering is their guacamole (I know- it's not Italian)... it is the BEST guacamole I have ever had. Neil's macaroni salad is also awesome- he make the "dry" macaroni salad that is not drenched in mayo. Delicious. As well as his eggplant rollatini. Yum. Everything is great. And he is willing to accomodate special requests. They have recently expanded their hours and now provide local delivery. The owner, Neil Jordan, is a sweet, friendly, INCREDIBLE cook! If you're looking for a delicious sandwich, any style, definitely check out Neil's! They have so many options, and they are all sooo good. My family really enjoys their chicken cordon blu sandwich, the homemade honey mustard dressing is amazing! We just can't get enough. They also have a really delicious macaroni salad. The portion sizes are worth the price, and the service is excellent. My only complaint would be consistency in their recipes. We have ordered several sandwiches multiple times and they aren't always made the same. They're still delicious, but sometimes you want what you remember. read more

My family threw a sprinkle for my sister and we ordered food from Neil's Kitchen. I never take the time to write a review but had to in this instance. I cannot say enough good words about this establishment. The food was awesome, fresh and reasonable. All of it was spectacular but the tray of wraps I ordered were great cause some had a spin to the usual wrap menu you see everywhere else plus came with there wonderful macaroni salad. Definitely recommend that, Mac n cheese, and meatballs a must. Sally was very helpful with suggestions and no matter how many times I called, was very accommodating. read more

I come to Neil's every time I am in Long Branch. I have tried a variety of their sandwiches and they are all delicious. We even order a large quantity of these sandwiches for the Haskall every year. Our order is always done correctly and everyone we are with enjoys the sandwiches. I also don't eat macaroni salad much because I don't like if it is runny. It is without a doubt one of the best sandwich shops I've been to in New Jersey having spent a lot of time in Brooklyn this is the closest I've ever come in fact I would say it's on par with the best Brooklyn deli's. A gem. The made from scratch split pea soup was awesome. It was rich and flavorful very well balanced without all the overwhelming ham/bacon flavor in so many. Happily I had the last bowl. The t-Rex sandwich was huge with high quality meats and wonderful peppers and fresh creamy thick sliced mozzarella. Bread like you can only get in Jersey. Side of elbow macaroni salad was perfect. All in all a huge amount of food which you'll find a bit higher priced than some delis may be but well worth it. I had to take half the sandwich home for later. Great sandwich place. Got six sandwiches for my family on the way out of town. Everything was fresh and delicious. The service is terrific too! You can tell they take pride in their establishment. It's a no frills deli with a ton of sandwich/food options. They do not skimp on their meats. Everyone was happy with their choice. Neils is my absolute favorite sub shop within a 30 mile radius. I drove from Brick the other day cause I was craving their ham and yellow American sandwich on a roll. They give you a pickle and small side of macaroni salad that is delicious and it's worth noting that I DO NOT eat anyone's Mac salad other than my mother's. Their quality of food is great and hasn't changed since they opened. I know what i am getting every time I go. Good quality food and it is moderately priced. When the previous sub shop closed that was there before Neils I was devastated cause I loved Mister G's but I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious everything is there! It's a small shop and tends to get busy during the summer because of all the beach goers but it is definitely worth the wait! read more

What a fantastic italian deli! It is a sit down and take out deli, with wooden booths that seat 2 or 4 customers each if you decide to eat in. They have a small parking lot in front that can fit about 5-6 cars. You walk in and the left wall is a giant menu of different named subs. There are also breakfast offerings and soups too. I had the NJ (imported boiled ham, genoa salami, fresh mozzarella and roasted peppers) and with oil/vengar/tomato/lettuce. I also had the T-Rex (Prosciutto, imported boiled ham, genoa salami, soppressata, fresh mozzarella) with oil/vinegar/hot peppers/lettuce/tomato. The cold cuts are sliced soo nice and thin. The sub bread is brought in every day from Brooklyn and is amazing. It has just enough pull/tear and doesnt get soggy. And the taste of the bread compliments the sub perfectly. The subs are available in 1/2 and whole sizes (average $6 for 1/2 and $10-12 for whole) and are so well worth every dollar. Such a well made italian sub. And like MJS said: the dry macaroni salad is a welcome change to the exccessive mayo filled macaroni salads that most places serve. I cant wait to try the hot subs and foods as well. We were doing a college tour of Monmouth University and I remembered Neil's being recently advertised as one of the 50 Best subs in NJ contestants. I am so glad we ate here and not at one of the Pier restaurants. All of our lunches were awesome. I ordered the sauteed eggplant with fresh mozzarella, spinach, roasted peppers, etc. It was DELICIOUS! The portions were very generous. The bread it was served on super fresh and excellent quality. Submarine sandwich, the quintessential American sandwich! It was a cold December day and I was in the mood for some good ol' comfort food. I walked into the shop and at first glance it reminded me of every sub shop I have ever been to. It was not that crowded, one or two people ahead of me. When it came time to order, the girl behind the counter could not get me away from the counter fast enough, almost as if she was cutting me off. I then wondered to myself, do I have something on my face does my breath smell? But I digress. Sub sandwiches have almost endless customization, however, I wanted one of the more common sandwiches: I wanted a turkey and provolone, lettuce, tomato, onion, everything on it. I was also intrigued by the soup du jour, spicy cream of artichoke. Luckily, she allowed me enough precious counter time to order it. I ordered to go. After a 10 minute wait my food was ready, boy was I excited! I raced home, ran in the house and opened my sandwich! Was I excited by what I saw? Not a chance! What I had was turkey, provolone, tomato, and mayo. Does that sound like turkey provolone with everything on it?? Nope, not to me either. No lettuce, no onion, no oil and vinegar! This was not the quintessential American sandwich I wanted, this was the third grader bringing his lunch to school sandwich. (My wife and I define this as a 'lame' sandwich). I ate it anyway because I was hungry, at least the bread was good. Next I decided to chow down on the soup. Could this be the saving grace? Meh. The soup was spicy as advertised, but I would have liked a little more artichoke flavor. The crème de la crème, and the actual saving grace, of this meal was the macaroni salad...EXCELLENT! I give this visit a 2.5 stars. I will round up and give it 3 stars only because it is supposed to be the best sub shop around. I will return and conduct another review. read more
