Nelda's is fantastic! I took a dress in to have the top dramatically altered (from a sleeved high-back dress to a fitted, buttoned halter top with boning in the bodice). The tailor I worked with understood exactly what I wanted, made suggestions I hadn't considered, and had the dress ready for fittings ahead of the quoted time frame, every time. The buttons added on to the dress matched the style perfectly. The dress even had some extras added in for extra security & comfort that I hadn't thought to ask for. Best part? All the work was $50, after tax. The only (small) drawback for me would be the hours-Nelda's isn't open Saturdays or Sundays, so it can take some juggling if your schedule doesn't leave much time during the week. I dropped off a skirt to Nelda's tailors on April 11th and was initially told that the skirt would be finished (taken in a little and a small hem on the lining of the skirt) the following Wednesday (April 20th). I thought that this time line was very long to begin with, but i did not absolutely need the skirt so i agreed. I was simply given a ticket and told it would be ready on the following Wednesday. After waiting a week and a half for some minor alterations, i returned to Nelda's on April 20th late in the business day. The woman (i think the owner?) asked if i had received a courtesy call telling me if my item was ready. I replied no, i hadn't even heard of that. Apparently, there was a woman who was filling in on the day that i came in and failed to let me know that them telling me my item would be ready by a certain date was more of a goal than realistic date. Low and behold, my skirt hadn't even been started. The woman then said that my skirt would be ready tomorrow (Thursday, the 21st) but don't come unless she calls me. Thursday comes and goes with no call. Friday comes and i get the call that my skirt is done.....almost two entire work weeks after dropping it off. I go to pick it up and the total is $30! I think that is VERY expensive for taking in a skirt and hemming the lining up. Even more disappointing is the owner/manager did not even address that i was in the store and failed to apologize for any inconvenience. I felt as if i was inconveniencing them for requesting my item to be completed in an orderly fashion. Bottom line, don't bother with this business. They will take longer than they tell you and will charge too much for work; i could have gone across the street to another tailor in downtown Pflugerville for a quarter of the price. Unfortunately, needs improvement on both the organizational and tailoring sides. They lost my bridesmaid dress (which was made to order and would've taken 3 months to get another) and spent 20 min frantically looking for it when I went to pick it up. In this process they gave me someone else's dress to try on which I realized was not mine when trying on. When they finally found it, the lining was much longer than the dress hem so they had to take another 1.5 weeks to fix. Thankfully, the man who was a tailor there noticed this for me when I tried it on. The dress was also crumpled onto the hanger which created a ton of wrinkles which took hours of me steaming to fix. The second time picking it up, I never got a call and had to call them- which was a mess of a phone call. They are super anal when it comes to getting wedding/bridal dresses altered so I figured if they can do that right then a suit's no problem. I've been here twice and must say that they do damn good work. First time it was for a suit jacket and most recently I got a full suit tailored and let me tell you it fits like a glove now. Nelda's did a great job with my wedding dress. I only needed it shortened, but the seam of the dress had a finish, so it had to be done from the waist. Every time I went there (3 times in total) I had nightmares that they were going to make it too short, or cut off the bottom of the dress, but of course they're professionals so they did no such thing. I had to go in for two fittings-- they left it too long the first time-- but that's SOP for wedding dress alterations. Both times, it was ready when they said it would be, and they were friendly, and I had a short wait. They have extended evening hours a few days a week, which was very helpful. The alterations weren't cheap-- but it was my wedding dress, not a pair of pants I wanted hemmed, so I didn't mind paying extra for skilled service. Anita did a great job on my wedding gown. It needed a lot of small tucks and tacking to help the fit plus sewn in bra cups. She did everything necessary to fit it to my body and then lowered the arm hole to make it more comfortable. I even had two fittings in one day so she could lower the underarm area even more and then make sure it fit before sending it back to the bridal store to prep week before the wedding. It was pricy at $65 and hour but I am happy with the results. They are professional and quick. read more

Nelda's tailors are my dress Queens. Her staff altered the back of my wedding dress, which included a zipper, to corset tie back strings. Yeah, any good tailor can do that, but not for the same price. I almost cried when I saw the finished product. The dress was exactly what I had envisioned and much more. Bride's Review! I am a bride and with 90 days till the wedding I was in a panic to find a tailor for my dress! Nelda's worked with me and scheduled all of my fittings, however for my second fitting there was terrible flooding in the Austin area and Nelda's called and asked if I would like to keep my appointment or move it to the following Saturday! As an out of town customer, I really appreciated the heads up and moved my fitting! They were also very kind and polite. Every time I put my dress on, I have to hold back the tears. I do think Nelda's could do a good job if they cared, because I think the actual work was good though incomplete. I spent a lot of money on this dress and assumed at $65 and hour that neldas would be able to make it fit beautifully. It does not look good. It bunches weird, is still too big, and she vaguely said she can't do anything else. I say vaguely because they barely spoke a word to me each time I went in. Almost no communication about how to make it fit best, it was like they were waiting for me to tell them what to tailor-I don't know, I've never worn a bridal gown before! I am so sad about this experience and that I wasted thousands on a dress plus $400 on alterations(twice the original quote) and trusted Belle Saison's recommended tailor. Now I pray I can find another tailor willing to actually make it fit and talk to me during a fitting since they are supposed to be the experts. I am just so sad about my dress. I was recommended to Nelda's by my bridal salon as they do not do in-house alterations. I was so disappointed with how my dress, the one wedding dress I ever get to wear in my life, turned out. I purposely ordered my dress too big. After my first fitting, they took it in so much that it would not zip. Then I went in for my "final fitting" and they hadn't even attempted to let it back out. The lady doing my alterations even asked me if I was on my period... like her mistake was my body's fault! Every time I went back in they had forgotten to do at least one or two things from the list from the time before. I ended up going back in for 3 fittings after my final fitting and they even had to do a couple more things after I had left for the last time. Because they had taken it in too much, they had to lower the back and put on a new hook. Well, minutes after I put on my dress on my wedding day, the hook broke/bent and the entire area continued to come apart the entire night. This created a domino effect of sag (since the dress is low back) which made me look heavier in all of my photos and the fabric looked bunched and cheap in all of my photos as a result. The worst and most heartbreaking part for me was not just the way it looked, but the time and energy I spent worrying about it on my wedding day. Taking a deep breath before my first look with my husband and hearing a rip. Using the time in between my Ceremony and family photos not to celebrate with my husband and wedding party, but having to have my bridesmaids attempt to get a safety pin where the hook should be. Spending so much time trying to fix my dress that we had significantly less time for photos. Having said safety pin bust during the Hora, going straight into cake cutting, and had the safety pin stabbing into my back the whole time. Not only does my dress look bad in the photos as a result of the poor alterations job they did, but I will never get these memories back. Do NOT get your wedding dress altered here! read more

I really wanted to like this place because they were very helpful the first time I went in. But not only did they not call me after a week of having my pants. But I had to call them and when I did they insinuated they had not started my pants at all. They said they would be ready the next day. When I went to pick up they fixed my pants a lot differently then we had first discussed. I wish they would have called me when they encountered a problem with my original request. One of the pairs wasn't fixed correctly so they said they would fix it at no charge (I would hope so!!!). It's been 2 weeks and they haven't called me to pick up yet. I was always told that it was so expensive to get your dress tailored, but it was very affordable here and I felt that the price was fair. My dress had a few layers and very intricate lace and a scallop detail at the bottoms so I was expecting it to be expensive and take a long time. It was neither of those things. I bought a designer wedding gown at a discount price but a size 10, I thought it would be impossible to get an alteration because the dress just looks too complicated and I wanted to change up some things on it. I have been doing business w/ Neldas for over 15 years. They were my "go to" exclusive alternations. i bet I did over $1,000 per year with them each of those years. I loved the mom and it is heartbreaking to hear of her medical problems. It pain me to write this, but I am done w/ Neldas. The last three alteration have been a disaster. They have lost my clothes and they have been late every time, and then can't find them. Some of this is seriously expensive stuff. This last time was the ultimate. They put suspender buttons in the wrong place, crazy. They put the buttons in the SIDE of the pants. The additional cloth they were to add (and charged me for) they just blew off, didn't find out till I was on trip. I had one pair of pants to wear. Never going back... go ahead and use them if it is something you don't mind losing, is very simple and care to go back three times to get it done right and be over charged to boot. I hate cutting ties with a business I have done so much business with for so long, but it is almost so bad it is comical. read more

I think they did a good job of altering my dress here, however I know the job was not super difficult. The reason I could not give them five stars is because I had to go back twice, They measured me incorrectly the first time, so when I went to try it on, it was still too big. However, they were gracious and offered to get it fixed as soon as I needed it. The second time it fit very well. I wish they would have done it correctly the first time so I wouldn't of had to make two trips. read more

The tailoring here was fine; the reason for so few stars in my review is because of the overall service that I received. I dropped 4 dresses and 1 skirt off on the 3rd of the month and was told that they would be ready for pick up in a week. I called one week later to check on my items at about 4pm, I was told that someone would check on the status of my clothes and be called back. At 15minutes until close, I STILL had not received a return call so I called back. I was told that 2 of my items were ready for pick up. I rushed over and it turns out that 1 of the items that was "ready" hadn't been taken in on the sides. I only ended up taking 1 item home and since I was going out of town that night, they told me that my remaining 4 things would be ready by the following week. The following Tuesday (13 days after dropping off my items) I went to Nelda's to pick up my remaining dresses and return the 1 item they had given me the week before (when I got home, I noticed the excess fabric hadn't been removed so I had to have them fix it). It was Tuesday morning at 11am, almost an additional week after the original date I was told my items would be ready. They STILL did not have my other items ready! I was offered a discount and told that I could come back later that evening & that they would give me a call when they were ready. I did NOT receive from them later that night, and rather than returning to the store to be disappointed again I waited until the next day. So, on Wednesday (exactly 14 days from the original drop-off date) I called Nelda's at 9am and was told that I could pick everything up by 12pm. So much for having everything by Tuesday night! I went in at 12pm and tried everything on, the original dress they gave me the week before had the excess fabric removed but one of the other dresses was too tight and I was told a zipper would have to put in (offered at no extra charge, but I'd have to wait another day!) I was offered a 15% discount on 4 dresses and 1 skirt that took a total of 15 days to complete everything (finally got everything on the 18th). The hassle, the wait, and the run around from being told that they'd be ready in 1 week, then 2 weeks, and finally having to wait for additional last minute repairs--was enough to make me realize that this place isn't worth returning to for anything! They may be great at bridal wear and seem to have treated other customers wonderfully but I was not a satisfied customer on my first and now final visit :( read more

Worse tailors in the world!!! They wronged me so badly that it's way to much to convey by typing since it would be as long as a novel. They promise a date of completion and did not start or even finish on that date. They claim to call you when completed which they don't. I PRAY that no one uses this shop since they are that bad and should be closed or even out of business. When I arrived to dispute my items quality of work (which was a whole day late) 4 other people walked in for their items and NO ONE's item was ready for pick up even though they were dropped off weeks prior. What kind of business tells you a date but can't deliver to their customers? They are inconsiderate of your time and belongings. WORSE BUSINESS EVER!!!! If I could give them a negative star I would, they really deserve it. read more

I had to shorten a bridesmaids' dress for a wedding in June. I took the dress in early May, thinking a whole month would probably be sufficient to hem the dress - it was chiffon and only needed a hem, nothing else. I was delighted when I dropped off the dress. She told me it would be at most a week and a half! Two weeks go by, and I don't receive a call. I finally have to go in (I work late, so I can't go in during the week), the week before the wedding. She asks if I received a call. I said no, I was just told it would be ready in less than 2 weeks, and it had been three weeks since leaving the dress behind. She looks and looks - and finally finds my dress after about 10 minutes. She comes out and appologizes. She says the dress has not even been touched yet. Not that it's almost done, or not quite ready - but that they have not even LOOKED at it yet to begin alterations. I am floored. It's been over three weeks! I am about to leave, and she starts taking out all the pins (leaving a hole in the bottom of the dress). I say fine - just get it done so I can go to the wedding. They get it done in three days - but it's about an inch shorter than I had requested. Then, they charged me over $50, for a simple hem. DO not use Nelda's Tailors - not unless you want to gamble on whether or not you'll get your items altered when you need them. I used this as a test run , as I have to get a wedding dress altered this year. I will not be using Nelda's Tailors - and I recommend that you don't as well. Anything is better than over-priced, late, poor service. read more

This was the worst experience I have had with a tailor. I have been getting my suits tailored all my life and I never ran into this. Some places are expensive and slow with good product. Some are cheap and fast but the product is not good. Nelda's is expensive, poor quality, and don't expect to get it then they say they will have it ready. If that was it, I would not write this post. But they also ruined my suit. They cut the shoulder pads in half so there is just a lump on the shoulder. it just goes on from there. .... ugh just frustrating. A month or so ago a pair or work pants got snagged and a side seam got pulled out. After reading up on alteration places, I chose to come to Nelda's. It was ready within a week or so and I wore them to work again. After wearing and washing again the seam I had repaired had fallen out. This was a little worrisome for me as it was the EXACT SAME SPOT. Finally a few weeks ago I brought them back to Nelda's for them to fix the spot that fell out. Two weeks went by after I was told that it would be 2-3 days. I never heard anything. Finally, I went back in and well, they couldn't find my pants. Then they DID find my pants but couldn't find the seam that was fallen out. WTF. So I sat there and they did it in five minutes. Wow. read more

If I could zero stars I would. I was a bridesmaid in a wedding and was told that it would only take 1 week to have my dress altered. I dropped my dress off on April 10th and didn't get it back until April 27th. When I went in on the original pick up date, they had not altered the halter top because they forgot what mark to alter on and the length was incorrect. The second time I went to pick it up, the length was still wrong and the bust cups were sown on top of my chest instead of underneath. Finally on the 3rd time (4 days before the wedding) it was as good as it was going to get. Between all of this was multiple phone calls on my part trying to figure out the status of my dress and a lot of "just a couple more days" on their part. They also seemed a bit pricey for the alternation, but I don't know a lot about that part so maybe they are on par with other tailor businesses. $115 to do the bust and length. read more

I totally lucked out and found some brand-new, Tory Burch for Habitual jeans at Buffalo Exchange for $10! Bad news, they were two sizes too big in the waist. Nelda's to the rescue! I have had two successful alterations with Nelda's - once as a bridesmaid in 2009 and this year as a bride. I gained some weight since I purchased my wedding dress from Belle Saison and Nelda's was able to let my dress out and take in my bust for a good price. I did have to come in for several appointments but one thing had to be done at a time to see how it affected the rest of the dress. I am very happy with how my dress turned out and would definitely use Nelda's again the future. read more

Good work - was excited to find them, but the job cost more $92 than the dress $87, all I had done was the hem taken in. I was surprised because last time I had this done I paid $27 somewhere else, but I moved. This was no rush time either - with a 5 day return. Truly disappointed. I cannot recommend Nelda's Tailors enough! I have used them for several bridesmaid dresses and my husband has used them for his work pants. They are always flexible, accommodating and produce good results! I just went to pick up another bridesmaid dress today and mentioned needing to steam it myself because I'm limited on time, and she called a cleaners for me that is going to be able to steam it tonight/tomorrow and have it ready by tomorrow morning!
