I recently visited Nelson J Salon in Beverly Hills and had the pleasure of seeing Nelson himself. He was incredible. This was genuinely one of the best blowouts I have ever had. The salon was spotless. They also offer head spas. When I first arrived, they did a hair analysis on my scalp to see whether my hair was dry and to give me suggestions for improving its quality. I thought that was a really special touch. The staff was extremely friendly and paid great attention to detail and to what I wanted. I would absolutely recommend everyone to go to Nelson J Salon. I wanted to like the service I received here (balayage), because my stylist Sara was really nice, but my hair got fried. Hair history: I used to be full bleach blonde a decade ago, dealing with rebleaching every few months- and never has my hair been this fried after one single appointment. It's been like ten years since my hair has seen bleach. I've just been box dye depositing (my natural hair color, brown) once a year as a toner to keep the red away. My hair had a normal amount of damage, it's seen heat on occasion and has fly aways and is porous as it's fine and thin. The rest: Sara was really a great person to chat with, and I am sure she is great with other coloring techniques as an "assistant senior colorist?" If I remember correctly, but I can not recommend her for a balayage specifically. I told her my hair lightened quickly. I believe my hair was over processed or she may have used too high level of a developer but I am not sure what the cause was. She used foils, and did not evenly paint the bleach, so after everything was done she had to go back and fix major uneven starting points around my head. The blending was not well done. And then more touch ups were needed. She was very rushed. I understand that the place was booked and busy but she was working on me and another woman at the same time towards the end of the appointment. She had to have her coworker help brush the other side of my hair because time was so short, and they were brushing from the root to the end, just causing breakage. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but this salon did not even blow dry your hair complimentary after a color service- they charge extra. So I sat there with wet hair and left with wet hair. She blow dried my front bang on both sides to show me the color. It's been a few washes, conditions and about a week now since that happened, and I've been hoping my hair would collect itself a little, but it's just totally fried now. The salon/sara offered to have me come back in but I declined after this, and because they wouldn't take accountability for the damage when I told them about it. They just said my hair was damaged before. So that was disappointing. read more

First time at this salon - Nelson is absolutely incredible! Been residing in LA for 20 years-we all know there are so many salons to choose from and happy to say finally found a keeper! Got four inches haircut/face framing money-piece highlight and base to enhance my mousy dishwasher blonde and cover the few grays. SO THRILLED!!! with the outcome. And all in under 2 hours - master stylist to the core. Time is money and this would've taken around 4 hours at all the other stylists l've been to. My haircut is beyond perfect with the long face framing bangs that I requested from a Pinterest picture and he nailed it! I honestly don't even know where to start with this experience because it was just confusing, frustrating, and honestly kind of ridiculous from beginning to end. So I went on Groupon just trying to see what deals they had, nothing crazy, just looking around like a normal person. I found this deal and decided to call the place to ask about it, and they told me it was $100. Simple enough, right? That's what I thought too. But then things started getting weird. There was a number linked to Groupon, and it said the name Natasha on there. So I texted the number, just trying to confirm everything before making a long drive, because yes, it is a FAR drive for me. I literally just asked, "Is this Natasha?" -- like a completely normal question. Next thing I know, I get a phone call and the person is already sounding irritated. She goes, "This is Helen," in a very annoyed tone, and then immediately starts questioning ME like I'm doing something wrong, saying why am I asking so many questions and that it's bothering her that I'm "doubting" her. First of all, I wasn't doubting anything. I even told her that in the texts. I just wanted to make sure the pricing was clear and straightforward because again -- I'm not driving all the way out there just to get hit with random charges. That's basic common sense. Instead of answering normally, she starts getting defensive and kind of aggressive. She kept saying things like she does this promotion very rarely, like I should feel lucky or something, which honestly just made it sound even more suspicious. Like... why is this so complicated? Then I noticed something else -- all the reviews on Groupon are about Natasha. Not a single mention of Helen. So now I'm even more confused. I decided to call the actual salon and ask to speak to a manager just to get some clarity. And guess what? They tell me there is no manager. NONE. And that Helen basically rents a chair there and operates on her own. So at this point I'm dealing with someone who is already rude, unclear about pricing, and not even properly tied to the salon in a way that gives me any confidence. And it just kept getting worse. She kept telling me if I have so many questions I should just go somewhere else -- which is wild because I hadn't even booked anything yet. Like imagine talking to a potential customer like that before they even step foot in your chair. I can't even imagine how bad it would be in person if she's already acting like this over the phone. Then comes the pricing confusion, which honestly was the final straw. She suddenly says, "I told you it's a hundred extra," which she NEVER clarified before. That's literally the whole reason I was asking questions in the first place. Then she says it's $130 on Groupon. So I go check -- and it says $200. Completely different numbers. When I point that out, she just says, "Oh, I thought you said that," and keeps talking over me instead of actually clearing anything up. At that point it's just chaos. No clear pricing, no accountability, just attitude. Overall, this whole interaction felt unprofessional, disorganized, and honestly shady. The communication alone was enough to make me walk away. If this is how she treats someone who is just asking basic questions, I genuinely don't even want to know how she treats people who are actually sitting in her chair. One thing I can say for sure -- I will not be going there, and I would seriously think twice before dealing with someone like this. The whole situation just felt off from start to finish. read more

Decided to try the AVEDA color gloss/shine treatment, especially since my latest balayage was fading and becoming a bit brassy. Although it took me awhile to find parking in the area (I drove looking for metered parking but there weren't any! But luckily there is a parking garage that offers the first 2 hours free, located on Bedford and Santa Monica. A quick 5 minute walk to the salon- perfect!), the rest of my experience was great! Zulma did my treatment and she was so sweet. She was also very communicative about what products were going in my hair, which I appreciated. From the moment I stepped in to the moment I left, I felt very included and paid attention to. I absolutely LOVED what Ayumi did with my hair! I came in for an Aveda shine treatment and a haircut and ended up with both color and shine that made my hair look and feel so much healthier than it was before. Everyone at the salon was so attentive and Ayumi was so sweet. I was able to tell that they have a lot lot regular customers and I can definitely see why! I would love to come back here for my hair needs, as they went above and beyond my expectations in terms of service, quality, and all-around amazing work. The salon itself was very well-kept and aesthetically pleasing. It is a bit pricey, but it's worth every dollar, and a much better deal than some other places that are overpriced for no reason. Parking can be found nearby via meter or structure, depending on how far you're willing to walk (there are some great parking spots that are about 5 minutes walking distance). They keep posting to Craigslist every 2 days offering free service or half off price for Yelp reviews! Heads up! 1 star due to my experience. I paid $24 for a face framing cut, which was the least amount of hair cut. Not worth it. Also, the people working there are fake people, they put on a fake face but can switch on you in a minute if they want or feel. Had it happen to me. Francis Diaz is THE WORST!! She completely butchered my hair!! I will NEVER go back to that horrible woman again! She showed up 45 minutes late for my appointment, I'm positive she had been drinking or was on drugs, she was loud, obnoxious, embarrassing, vulgar, and completely UNPROFESSIONAL!! This is such a gorgeous salon and conveniently located in the golden triangle in Beverly Hills. Their online appointment system is a breeze and they have plenty of stylists available. Very large and spacious salon, they are extremely hard-working, friendly and efficient here. I've had many blowouts and styling appointments all over the city and this is my favorite salon by far! At house all day, even in humid weather and with the fine and straight hair that I have. You instantly feel welcome here and are well taken care of. Nelson and his team really take care of you here! Service: As soon as I arrived for my appointment, I was seated right away and offered a drink. As soon as you enter, you know it's a really nice salon. They served me a whole box variety of teas to choose from. Ayumi was my main stylist and she's such a boss! She's really experienced and knows what she is doing. You're truly in trusted hands. I came in with my roots all grown out and a lot of uneven dyed hair and left with gorgeous toned blonde hair. Remember if you're getting your hair dyed, don't wear anything nice underneath just in case. I love how Ayumi primed me on what she was going to do to my hair before and during. She was so down to earth and I highly recommend her! Both her and Nelson were extremely accommodating. My favorite part is how all the other stylists were just supporting each other and get excited for each other's clients. It felt like a family and team type of community, love to see it! The most glamorous part about this experience was getting my hair washed and head rubbed. It really felt like such a luxurious experience, I would come back just for getting my hair washed haha. Amazing service! Parking: So I parked right across the street with the metered parking in the neighborhood and put more money in every hour but if you're here for a long time, I recommend parking in vons lot which has a max of two hours. If you plan on being here more than that, i'd just have someone drop you off or uber. If you don't decide to do that, the salon is super accommodating and will go to the meter for you. It was such an honor to have my hair done by the owner himself Nelson. Really super nice person and he was teaching me about how to take care of my hair all along the way. I chose to do the aveda high gloss treatment which took less then 30 minutes in total. My hair did feel like it changed from brassy to what color it was originally when colored. Tried the AVEDA color gloss/shine treatment. I have fashion hair colors so my hair is often fried at the ends. Had a great experience with Sarah and Nelson. Would recommend for your hair needs! Parking is also easy if you come on a Sunday so metered parking is plentiful and free. (There's more metered parking near Guisados, which is a short walk away.) When I arrived, Nelson the owner introduced himself and took a few minutes to get me set up with Sarah, my stylist. I was also offered tea, coffee, and/or water. She gave me the low-down on what to expect from the gloss before starting my first hair wash. The gloss was then applied and I waited for 5-10 minutes before the second wash with conditioner. Sarah did give me a light drying so I wasn't dripping but I did leave with damp hair. I do wish it was a full blow-out, but the salon was super busy and the service didn't include it so I get it! Amazing service at this salon! Mina did my nails and they came out perfectly. She cleaned it up nicely, nailed the perfect shape, and was meticulous with color. I also had a deep conditioning treatment and blow dry which made my hair so shiny and smooth. Both women who helped me were so incredibly nice and made me laugh. This salon offers so many different services. My review is based on my experience with their esthetician/makeup artist Kelly. She is fantastic!! I've had the pleasure of having one of her amazing facials. I have super sensitive skin which I mentioned to her so she suggested I do a egg protein facial which I absolutely loved. I could feel my skin getting tighter as the mask was drying. After it was removed, I noticed an immediate difference. My skin was glowing & it was so much tighter. I started to follow her on Instagram and saw her posting the clients she did microblading on & she's super talented. I decided to ask her to work on my brows. For those of you who aren't familiar, microblading is basically tattooing of the eyebrows. I happen to have a bunch of bald spots I hate having to fill in daily. She did an amazing job! I'm a very skeptical person when it comes to my brows so I'm glad I found someone I trust. I highly recommend Kelly and her prices are so reasonable, actually it's really cheap for Beverly hills. The two people who work the front desk are both super friendly. I had a great experience overall As for parking, there's a free 2 hour lot next to Rite Aid a block away on bedford. This salon is a little hard to find, because it has a different name out front, but once you walk in there is a small name plate that says Nelson J Salon. This salon is conveniently located right next to Subway, which is great for grabbing a bite if you're hungry after your appointment (or during- for those of you who dye your hair). There are a few metered parking spots in front of the salon, but it's BH and on a busy street. I would recommend booking an appointment for Sunday which is when there is free 2 hour parking on the street (near Neiman Marcus). Nelson's salon is modern, clean, and stocked with well known brands that make your hair look fabulous! I received a complimentary dry hairstyle, and Nelson himself worked on me. He is polite, and quick despite the fact that I have long thick hair. I loved that he didn't complain about the thickness, because most stylists do. The only reason I knocked a star off was because all throughout my service he left a couple times to attend incoming and outgoing customers which got a little annoying- but it is understandable as they seem understaffed. Came here for the Aveda gloss treatment and had an overall great experience both in terms of the work done on my hair as well as the service. In terms of the gloss itself, as someone with thick, frizzy, curly hair, the gloss provided some shine and reduced the frizz but most significantly made my hair SO SOFT. I literally could not stop running my fingers through my hair. With respect to the service, everyone was so nice and friendly and I truly felt pampered with the tea and robes. The only reason I deducted 1 star was because of a slight issue with the hair wash. The water often got very hot and the high water pressure from the shower head + sometimes vigorous hair washing (there are 2 hair washes with this treatment) did leave my scalp a little bit raw. I would recommend asking for colder water and more of a gentle massage! Depending on how long the results last and how it holds with my curls I would definitely come back! read more

Got the Aveda gloss treatment today with Bobby. My hair is much softer, shinier, and not dry towards the bottom anymore. I recommend this treatment if you have long hair that gets dried out over time. They wash your hair first, apply the gloss, then condition it afterwards. Bobby recommended some products to keep my hair in good shape after the treatment. I bought their conditioner that they use for their conditioning treatment. The salon is nice, clean, and you can find 2 hours of free parking in the Beverly Hills public lots during the day time. I noticed that most clients in the salon were getting color. They must be good at that as well. Easy to make an appointment and change online. Everyone is friendly and I met Nelson as well! Had the most amazing experience with Zully! I was unfortunately running late because I didn't realize how busy all the street meters would be at that time. I called them and they were SUPER nice and not making me feel bad about being behind. They even gave me a parking garage to go to, and told me to focus on getting there safely versus rushing. :) Once I was there, Zully washed my hair like she was washing every single strand (literally the best part of any salon trip). She then did the Aveda Shine Treatment on my hair, with toning abilities because my hair is yellow like a crayon!! The treatment was lovely and I already see results. At the end of the session, Nelson greeted me and was so kind. You can tell this salon does not skip on customer experience and service, which you would expect being in Beverly Hills. I've been coming to Nelson for over a decade for my very fine hair. With Nelson, I get perfect color that doesn't go brassy on me. I can go 12 weeks and still have my hair look fab! I've consistently seen him and Corey for styling, too- and never once have been disappointed. The cuts are always flattering, with well-styled ends that frame my face well. (Never had to worry about side-swept bangs that were too short!) Nelson also shepherded me through the process of getting a custom wig (expertly colored by Nathan, styled by him) and now, individual hair extensions when my hair thinned out due to chemo. Nelson is like family to me. His staff seems to love him, and so do I. They will tease each other and joke around and they all seem quite talented, based on what I've seen. And I've seen lots of heads of hair get styled over the past 12 years in the chair. The new location on Wilshire (next to Subway) is bright, spacious and cheery. What I love most is the diverse group of people that work at the salon. Everyone comes from different walks of life, ethnicity, and background. The vibe here is one that is positive, energetic, and fun. Then, comes the skill level that I got to see. Nelson himself has such an eye for detail and is truly a master at his craft.
