I've been getting my hair cut by Verina for years so I was so happy for her when she was able to open her own salon and even more thrilled with the fact that she's using only organic products. When I was pregnant, it was amazing to be able to get my grays covered up and feel more like myself. And my hair cuts always look great even after they grow out. I need a low maintenance style and she knows exactly how to do it so that I can just brush and go. It took me forever to find someone that could do that for my hair (thick, full and wavy, not your typical Asian hair) which is why I keep driving all the way out to BH. I've been going to Verina's for at least 2 or 3 years. I found her salon because I wanted to go somewhere that didn't use harsh chemicals. This was one of the few organic salons as there were none in the valley at the time (thankfully there are now). I'm African American with curly hair and it can be difficult to find salons that use organic color. All I had done at Verina's was root touch ups, never any styling. A year or so ago, Tanya Marie, a former stylist at Verina's salon damaged my hair by lifting it without my permission. My hair fell out. I tried to wait and see if my hair would recover, but unfortunately it did not. I was very upset but didn't freak out. But I really wish I had stopped going to Verina's salon at that point. Sometimes I am too trusting. Finally, after months Verina offered to cut my hair for free (otherwise I really couldn't afford to do it on top of getting color. I can't do $200 at a salon) to get rid of the damage. The recent issue is that earlier this year, I went to Verina's for my usual appointment. I was on time and her assistant prepped my hair for the color treatment. Her assistant washed and detangled my hair (I had already detangled it previously but curly hair has a tendency to tangle easily). Verina was busy with another client at that time, so in no way did I slow her down or make her late for other clients. When Verina came to my chair she was very upset and complaining. She started to put the color in my hair and chastise me about making her late and her having to turn away a new client - a guy who was a walk-in and wanted a quickie hair cut. I couldn't believe it! Then she proceeded to pull my hair. I usually stay quiet if someone is in my head and I don't want an angry person doing my hair. However, once she started pulling my hair I made her stop. I looked at her and said, stop pulling my hair. She continued to pull at it in frustration, and once again I stopped her. I said STOP PULLING MY HAIR. I suggested she let her assistant finish. She did not step away. I stood my ground. Eventually, Verina calmed down and finished putting the color in my hair. There was nothing I could do as I couldn't just walk out with chemicals in my hair. But it was a truly awful encounter. I felt so uncomfortable. Another client, a woman who had just had her hair colored by Verina, was there and she was extremely unhappy about her color. It turns out that Verina had to do it over. I'm not sure if that is what caused Verina to be so impatient and think that she could just pull on my hair and not stop when I said to. I've been going there for years and couldn't believe she could be so totally disrespectful. I'll never go there again. There have been other incidences when Verina behaved very strangely that I just let pass as I didn't think I could find another organic salon. But what happened is all for the good as I found one near me in Burbank! My new stylist gets my hair done in 1.5 hours and doesn't complain about it. She also isn't afraid of non-Caucasion hair. It's such a relief to not have to ever go to Verina's again! Avoid it! Don't go there. read more

It was my first visit to her salon after my (conventional) long-time hair dresser was no longer available. I am truly thrilled with the experience I had with Verina. I visited Verina organic salon in August of last year and have been meaning to write a review for a long time. They use good products and mean well and the ladies there are sweet. But because I have dark/black thick hair I was made to sit under a heat lamp for 45 minutes for the color to lift. My ombre looked lovely that day and for the week after but ever since the quality of my hair is at its worst. I've never seen these many split ends. And it's only on the colored strands. I went to this salon to see Tanya for a keratin treatment and was more than pleased with the entire experience. First of all the salon itself is fab and the owner is super nice. Tanya was really fun to work with. You could tell she's passionate about hair and really cares about her clients. I was worried I wouldn't like my highlights without the use of chemicals but was shocked to see the results. In 15 years of dying my hair I have never seen a better weave job! Absolute worst experience at a hair salon. Ever. I decided to check this place out because I was looking for an organic alternative to hair care and there were some good reviews. Upon entering it's one very small room with a very drab feel. I was on time but they weren't ready for me. I believe it was the owner who cut my hair. The whole experience was so un welcoming. They didn't offer me so much as water and she didn't utter one word to me the entire time she was cutting my hair. There was a girl sitting next to me who she had done color on before I got there who was complaining about how much she hated it so when she was done cutting my hair, she passed me off to someone else to blow dry so she could go fix the other mess. The guy who did my blow out also did not say one word. I told him I wanted it straight and he did some curling business I hated. When he was done he just walked over to the register without a word and the girl who cut my hair also said nothing. I had not cut my hair in a long time and was really looking forward to this and the lack of customer service truly shocked me. I may as well have been a manequin sitting there. Maybe they have enough business they can treat new clients like crap. Who knows. It was an utterly miserable experience. Oh, and I hate the cut. She took way too much off and there is absolutely nothing cute about the style. Big mistake coming here. Please save your money and go elsewhere. She amazed me then, and after all of these years she still does. I drive up from SD regularly to get my hair colored.
