I took the clock to Michael, and he suggested a $120 oil and clean, which is quite reasonable if you know the price of maintenance on clocks. He repaired and cleaned the movement, but also cleaned up the exterior. It looks new! When I went to pick up the clock, he even brought it to the car for me and provided towels to keep it from getting scratched. This is a terrific family run business, and I will be back! I smile when I read "unfriendly" in a review of CCC. They may not have the smiling style of the other places, they just have pure competent substance. They also may not be the "low price leader" in quoting a repair. But they guarantee any repair. I just brought in to them a 6 month old watch that had a hard-to-turn crown. I had taken it first to another place that told me they fixed it but that it was corroded and needed some winding to loosen it up. I discovered it was a quartz watch that needed no winding. The place unscrupulously had charged me $68 for the so-called repair. Chicago opened it up for me while I was there and found a gnarly rubber gasket that I had probably messed up myself trying to wind a battery powered watch. The technician should rightly have called me an idiot but instead just fixed it in 2 minutes, He did not want to charge me anything. I insisted on giving him at least a $20 tip which he reluctantly but appreciatively accepted. This is the kind of business I respect and will patronize again and again going forward.

When we first started talking and attempt to set up an appointment for a time. I was told any time after 11am. So I showed up around 230ish and no one was home. So he tells me he on a service call and his wife will be back in 20 min. Or so. So after coming back I met his wife to do a drop off. She told me that her husband will contact me with in a week or maybe less. Well a week went by and no answer. So I called the guy wanting to see where he was at with the clock. He tells me he on a service call and he'll call me back in 2 hours. Two hours went by and no call back so I waited. Another week goes by without a peep from him (now 2 weeks in) so I call again to see were he at with the clock if he even look at it yet. he tells me that he busy on another service call and he'll have the estimate the next day around 6-7 pm I said okay and waited. And of course the next day came and no respond. Yet again another week goes by without a peep from him. So three week has gone by and I had gotten no answer from him if looked at the clock, on what's wrong with the clock, what it will take to fix the clock, how much it would cost, and how long it will take. Nothing at this point, I still haven't even met this guy yet either. I get it if he's busy but communicate that with the person. Maybe actually be there to meet the person at the beginning And don't tell people you're going to do something and not communicate. You made me feel like I just gave a con man my property. The only good thing was I was able to get my clock back without a problem.
