Just as a preface, this review is for the skiing experience as well as the lodge next to the slopes. I have a season ski pass (courtesy of my bf's family), and although it was my first time EVER skiing, my boyfriend (who also has a season pass) and I decided to trek up there this past Saturday and get our first runs of the season in. We arrived to Mystic Mountain at around 11:30 am and it was very uncrowded at that point. They do have a bunny slope, however, my boyfriend had said it's easier to just dive right in and try the beginner slope, Geronimo. I literally did just that, sliding the entire way down the slope on my rear end screaming bloody murder. It got much better after that though. I had several runs down Geronimo without falling at all. The drawback for beginners is there is just this one green level slope. There are 2 mid level and 2 black diamond-all were open the day we went. Another thing I did not care for-the ice makers blasting in your face icing over the goggles so you can't see going down the slope. We found out that anytime it is over 25 degrees they can't operate the ice makers, just a fun little fact. The only other part that I would consider a drawback was the ski lift-it takes about 7 minutes to ride it from the bottom to the top. In contrast it takes about 1 1/2 minutes or less to get down to the bottom of the run. So when the line started really picking up around 2:00pm-resulting in about a 10 minute wait for the lift and then the 7 minute ride to the top-ourselves and another couple we went with decided to go into the lodge and get some midpoint drinks. They had a nice draft selection in the lodge (Thunderhop IPA!!!) and their menu was nice as well. We shared a brie and pear pizza with balsalmic reduction and an order of calamari served with cocktail sauce. The pizza was excellent! The calamari was pretty good as well but the pizza was the real standout! They also had a guitarist in the lodge who was doing some pretty good DMB covers so the background music was nice. After liquid courage (and yummy food) we trekked back onto the slopes until the sun went down and it became too cold. Also the line was getting increasingly long at that point as there is discounted twilight skiing available. Rental rates were very reasonable-$15 each about. Lockers are available for $1, however they are rather small so we left most of our stuff in the car. After talking to the others in my group, all of whom are very experienced skiers, they said Nemacolin is the easiest place to learn in western PA, and being a beginner I would agree that this was a great place to learn how to turn and stop without causing too many problems for fellow skiers. I will obviously be heading back to get more use out of the season pass. Also of note, if you are an avid skier, buying the season pass is equivalent in price to 2 day passes, so if you believe you will go to Mystic Mountain more than twice, I'd highly suggest the season pass. Nemacolin is about 90 mins-2 hours from Pittsburgh and is easily accessible by 43 (Mon-Fayette toll road expressway) if you live in the South Hills or Washington County area as my boyfriend does. read more

You must understand this is an upscale resort, and not the chain hotel you will find off an interstate exit. The level of service was superb and every amenity we used from valet parking to room service to the spa was above any complaint. This property was definitely at the top end of our personal affordability scale, but we found value by staying mid-week when room rates were lower. It felt at times like we were the only guests at the property. Once here, complimentary shuttles will take you anywhere on the property to any of the activities- golf, adventure center, mini-golf, jeep course, animal reserve, shooting academy, casino.....you get the idea- there is something for most everyone here, although I did not see many children, which was cool with us for this upscale location. read more

Overall great experience and will be back! Stayed for a weekend at falling waters. When we pulled up quick and convenient valet service. Baggage was delivered to our room. Check in was smooth - butler escorted us to our room! Drawback the door would not unlock for butler do to bad door battery but didn't take too long and they did provide drinks during the wait! Butler service was a new experience and took some getting used to to really know how to utilize it effectively - the key is ASK! Ask for things you want/need/desire - if it's within their power they will make it happen! Things to ask about - drinks, snacks, steaming garments for dinner, a special ride to dinner, reservations, extra cookies, your "special pillow", and "special bath". Did the Jeep tour which was very enjoyable and fun! Other activities are shopping on site, car museum, art walks, and the animal enclosures which were fun as well! The casino is small but has a mixture of table games and slots. The restaurants on site are very nice! Overall excellent experience but pricey and it's tough to get a lay of the land but overall DO IT! read more

This was our first time at the resort. We went with two other families and rented one of the houses on the property. The home was beautiful and had everything we needed. However, on day 2 of our stay, my Rolex watch went missing after the housekeepers cleaned the house. The resort did not help me in the process whatsoever and tried to turn things around on me. After a lot of back and forth with their Director of Lodging, Kory Young, he told me there was nothing they could do and that I needed to take it up with my insurance company. You would think at a "top-notch" resort such as this; they would be more empathetic/accommodating towards their guests and do whatever they could to help throughout the process. Instead, they did nothing and corroborated the stories of the housekeepers. Nice place if you want to get robbed! read more

Terrible signage. They have one address which could lead you to the golf course, casino, or the main hotel. They need better signs on where everything is. Also, if you are there to ski then it better be on a weekend because the slopes aren't open during the week. If you want to use a hot tub then that's going to cost 20 per person and the activities on the resort are sparse at best. At least during winter. Oh and if you reserve a townhouse the check in time is 4pm BUT check out is 11am. I have never seen a resort where check in is so late. I will say the staff is nice but whoever manages this place needs a course on how to manage a resort. The summertime may be completely different but winter is not that great at this place. read more

Wow, this place is amazing! After driving for about 1.5 hrs from the Pittsburg airport, I was blown away by the beauty as we came up the hill to the property. The main building (Chateau) was gorgeous. Check in was a breeze and there was no wait for my room. I stayed in the Washington Townhomes area which is near the animals (lions, tiger, wolves,etc) Although we were close to them, we didn't hear a thing. The decor in the townhouse was interesting and everything was cleaned well. The shower in the 2nd bedroom was kind of small. The first night we were there, the master shower had no hot water. Besides that, the pool area was very nice and serene (especially where the infinity pool was) The ice cream shop was neat and had games and activities for kids. Upstairs from that were neat little boutiques. We dined at the Aqueous on site and it was an excellent meal. It was located in the Falling Rock building. There were a lot of options available for activities (golf, fishing, shooting, spa, wildlife tour, etc) I've included pictures of the townhome but didn't capture much of he beauty of the property itself. One thing to add- the valet service was not the best. It took about 30 minutes to retrieve our car although there were no other people waiting! read more

We have been coming to Nemacolin at least once a year for at least 12 years and still enjoy the visit. Sure we have seen changes, especially the decline in professionalism among staff, but overall it is a great place. There are plenty of choices in where to stay and eat and activities are in abundance. The spa is a world in itself and worth every penny. You can walk around the grounds and enjoy the outdoors and the mini zoo or play a fabulous round of golf. read more

We traveled 8 hours for our stay. The food at every restaurant were delicious. It rained most of our stay and there was still plenty for my family to do (3 kids ages 5,5,2). I definitely want to come back during the summer and play the golf course. The casino, gym, stores, were very nice and the grounds are beautiful. The shuttle buses they have are very convenient. Unfortunately, my 2 year old daughter broke her leg during our stay. However, the staff was amazing and very generous. They delivered 2 beautiful baskets to our room with many presents not only for my daughter, but also for my twin boys. The staff overheard my boys asking Mommy for certain toys while in the store. That night the basket arrived with exactly what my boys were asking for. That really tells you how thoughtful and great the service is at Nemacolin. I highly recommend you checking this place out. The long ride for my family was definitely worth it and we will be back. read more

The service at Nemacolin is spectacular. I cannot say enough about it. There is no employee who would hesitate to try and help you with something, irrespective of whether it is their job or not. So whoever is doing the job or recruiting, training, and creating a culture of service is doing a terrific job! A couple observations from our trip this week. - The Washington townhomes probably are in need of some work. This was our second stay in one - they are getting a little dated, and need a lot of TLC in general, but also some attention on maintenance items, eg. In 807 where we stayed for a week, the dryer knob has a plastic portion that's worn and the cycle red line indicator just spins freely - so it's hard to tell what cycle you are running; also, when it runs it sounds like a dog in pain.. there's a loud squealing indicating a worn drive belt or a bad motor. Also, in the upper bath with a door into the hallway, the shower light LED fixture is periodically flickering - great for a dance club, but terrible for a morning shower :) And the HVAC in the closet sounds more like a blast furnace you'd hear at a steel mill in Pittsburgh in the 1950's than a modern HVAC system. - The place definitely felt understaffed toward and during the weekend. Shuttle service slowed down and we had to make a couple of repeated calls. Our delivery order "should be about 45 minutes" from Barattolo on Saturday night took two hours to get after a call at 90 minutes to check and make sure it was coming. Asking the concierge before 9 am to let housekeeping know that our 2 year old naps from 1:30-4:30, so could they come clean the room before then fell through the cracks. When we called housekeeping at three they said the message wasn't relayed but they did come in the evening and take care of it. In my non hospitality industry opinion. if the staff's same in person culture is carried to behind the scenes activities and the surge periods are adequately staffed, you'd avoid situations like this. -It's still a great resort, but there did seem to be some level of service drop between our visit just before labor day last year and this past week - and talking to other guests during our stay, they felt similarly. I don't want it to take away from how I started this section, the staff truly make the place; I just would tell people to try and avoid weekends, and to stay away from the Townhomes until they're refurbished or something - they are convenient for families, but gosh do they need some TLC. -The food and service at all the open establishments is great, but some diversity and creativity in cuisines would be great. It's a lot of the same and gets a bit old, specially on the kids menu. Some culinary breadth would be a great help including asian, pan asian, latin, middle eastern, and other cuisines - specially in the kids menus allowing them to broaden their culinary horizons. The Sundial lodge on Saturday 2/19 was packed to the hilt, with a lot of unmasked individuals and very little social distancing on both levels. We ended up walking in and trying to find a safe spot and leaving, and at least two other families while we were there did the same. There need to be some capacity controls and masking enforcement there. It seems like it is well equipped for a Super Spreader event. read more

We booked here last minute for a 2-night stay over Memorial Day. And wow, this place has a lot going on! I liked it, and I'd return, but it is very pricey. The place has the feel of an all-inclusive resort, but with a la carte pricing. And the pricing structure seems to take a hint from the folks who set the prices at the airport; everything costs 2x how much it should. However, that is pretty much my only complaint. There is a ton of stuff to do here, and it is a great destination for either families with kids or couples looking for a weekend getaway. We drove out on Friday, an easy 4 hours from Columbus (OH). We had a nice room in the Lodge, which was 2-bed suite with plenty of room for the kids to run/crawl around. Friday afternoon we hit the pool, which was nice. Friday night we dined at the Asian fusion place on the patio at Falling Water, their golf-side hotel and patio. I had fish tacos, which were tasty, but the entree was a bit on the small side and pricey. Afterwards we hit the on-site ice cream parlor. Saturday we picked up our dog, who was staying on-site at the Wooflands (which was the only thing we spent money on that I thought was reasonably priced), and took him around the grounds. We walked up to the Adventure Center, where we shot paintball guns and climbed the rock wall. There is an all-day Adventure Pass, which were $75 each. We passed on that, and bought our options a la carte. Again, pricey. We returned the dog to the Wooflands, passed on a "family carnival" (which wasn't complimentary, there was a charge for that too!) and went to the pool instead. Later we attended an animal show, which was kind of cool (held an alligator and saw a super-cute baby monkey up close), but again kind of pricey. Saturday night all the restaurants were booked up, so we headed off-campus to the Stone House restaurant. Afterwards my son and I played ping-pong and video games at Nemacolin. Sunday, we had breakfast on-site at the Autumn (which was quite good) and took off, visiting Ft. Necessity on the way out of town. The staff was great. All the way around everyone was super friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. And this wasn't just the staff that was customer facing, the housekeeping and maintenance staffs were super friendly and helpful. This place has everything, and something for everyone. It is kind of awesome, but you can easily spend a ton of cash here. In July we're headed to the Stonewall in WV; I'm curious to see how it compares. read more

It's Farmington, PA ! What more can I say. Ms Hardy is attempting to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear I see trying to make Nemacolin an oh so ultra elite and exclusive facility. No more "riff raff" SW Pennsylvanians can come spend their money here for a day trip, no sir. Either pay 500 and up for the cheapest room or no ability to use ( and of course pay for) the spa or even eat at a restaurant. Ms Hardy thinks she's turning Nemacolin in Farmington in Fayette County into a destination resort and you ain't invited. I remember when Nemacolin was nothing but the lodge, an airplane landing strip, a golf course and a few townhouses. Then came the building of the out of place Chateau and assorted buildings w/ amenities including the spa. The last visit we made there (to stay overnight) was in 2007 when we stayed for a weekend with my sister and brother in law and their children. We stayed in townhomes given the kids. I'll never forget the drains were clogged in the bathrooms, it was dusty, it was drafty, cold and worst of all, half of the restaurants and attractions were closed! Some " resort" back then was our impression, but, we understood we were in Fayette County. We vowed never ever to stay their again when we came back to visit SW PA. However, when I came back to the area subsequently, I would drive up for an all day spa experience and easily drop 500-700 dollars and leave. Guess I won't be doing that anymore when I visit SW PA since I'm dropping 500 bucks for a room to use a spa. I guess if you are not world traveled you think Nemacolin is some grandiose place. Do yourselves a favor. Spend your money on a cheap plane ticket to Arizona or California and stay at a lovely destination spa. You'll enjoy better weather, truly delicious cuisine and customer service and you won't be snubbed as riff raff because you won't spend 500 bucks a night in order to use a spa. read more

Luxury prices for an below average service. We came for a weekend getaway for the spa and paid for the most expensive rooms thinking that we'll have access to all amenities in the resort. The bummer was they didn't allow to use the pool and spa area on Saturdays. You can buy a $20 daily pass but not on Saturdays. We came here for the spa! Coffee was terrible in the room and ordered through room service only to get the same stale coffee. Bathroom was dated, water leaking, no HBO channelNot coming back! read more

So, here is a sad note! Nemacolin has decided not to have spa facilities available for NON GUEST at the resort. Seems like a lost opportunity for revenue not to mention a marketing strategy. First the negative: their shuttle service is not available at standard intervals. Sometimes a few minute wait others had to call and waited 15-20min. Otherwise what a wonderful place!!! We stayed at Falling Rock for one night over Labor Day weekend. Our visit was the definition of pure relaxation and luxury. From the lofty services and amenities, such as the helpful butler service and the infinity pool to the finer details like the soft chenille bed throw, Falling Rock was a top notch experience all around. The shuttle service was an added bonus in visiting other parts of Nemacolins resort like the spa and restaurants. I would not hesitate to return for a longer stay. read more

We stayed here for 3 days with my sister and BIL. We rented a two bedroom Laurel Ponds condo through a private owner. Our first words were about how beautiful the area was and the resort grounds themselves. So pretty in early fall even though it was crazy warm. And the grounds are extensive and at 3 days we didn't even cover a tenth of it. The guys played golf on the Links course and at $25 per person quite the steal. They really enjoyed it. We ate at several of the restaurants. If it hadn't been for a short stay, other plans and some physical restrictions we would've been all over the other activities like the ropes course, zip line or paintball. This place is definitely on the ritzy side. They have a small plane airport for cryin' out loud. The restaurant pricing seemed appropriate but the activity prices and the spa were more than a little overboard. We drove an hour away to get a massage that wasn't $200. Also, some of the activities, like putt putt were only available on the weekend which sucked. I know we can't do much about the pricing but the only thing we would improve would be the map/directional signage. We had a hard time finding where things were and in some cases finding our way around. More/better signage would be great. We would love to go back in the summer. It would be a great place for kids. read more

It's just so damn artificial and temporary. Everything is either veneered or faux-finished. There is none of the enduing timelessness of a traditional resort. This is a really amazing resort. It is very clean. The staff is wonderful. The Butlers on the 5th floor are are so above and beyond they hardly seem real in this day and time. The artwork and grounds around here are just stunning. I have nothing negative to say about this place. It deserves 5 stars. Just returned from a four day stay, and was extremely pleased. A couple of caveats: If I were to base this rating on the Falling Rock Hotel alone, this would be five stars while wondering why I couldn't add a sixth. We had a king suite which was huge, immaculately appointed, filled with comfort and technology, and taken over the top by the most accommodating butlers ever. The Amber Lounge had tasty drinks and sandwiches, Aqueous is at the top of its steak game, the valets are swift and eager to please, and the gym was full of surprises such as fresh chilled fruit, water, and chilled washcloths to cool down with. There literally was nothing wrong the entire stay, and the entire staff were as good as it gets. I'll also throw the Jeep instructional rides in there as 5 star awesome, with our guide teaching me things I've never known (no expert here, but not a neophyte either). The casino is a nice touch, although they'll never be confused with a large Vegas type casino. It was squeaky clean, spacious, and staffed by nice people. The only fault I'll level at the resort was some of the dining options outside of the the three fine dining establishments. These, including the Caddy Shack, were a little mundane and just not up to the peerless standards of their top restaurants. All in all, a great place to which I hope to return soon! read more

On a separate review of Lautrec, I give them 5 stars plus. Been going here for years, so I subsequently have a baseline and I've definitely seen the quality of the Sunday brunch slide...way downhill. Took my husband there recently for his birthday brunch (Lautrec didn't have any availability) and they definitely "phoned it in." Service was impeccable!...as expected. However, the quality and variety of the food really has taken a turn for the worse. Unsure if there's been a new GM or assistant to Chef Butterworth who is not on top of their game like the previous, or just cutting corners to save a few dollars but either way it shows. Save your money and go to the Maywood Grill in Chalk Hill for Breakfast. What it lacks in ambience it makes up for in a great breakfast for a good value. Please understand the context within I've written this review. My husband I live PT in the area and PT in Naples, FL. We've done several chef tastings at Nemacolin which were outstanding and life-changing! We've gone to brunch here since 2011 with no dissatisfaction. We are used to paying a considerable amount for good food, our housing community has a country club where the food is expected to be on par with any fine dining experience to be found in Naples at large. So we have reasonable and well-healed expectations. If they served at our club what I had at this brunch, their would be a mutiny by all our members. To start, this place is so boring and outdated. But it was their "refuge" that struck me the most. It's nothing more than a roadside zoo. It's depressing, pathetic and I'm shocked it's even legal or how they could possibly get away with calling it a refuge. Nothing about the animals' enclosures were anything like their natural habitat and zero enrichment for the animals, plus setting off fireworks? If you're going to buy animals to exploit call it what it is, save the word refuge for those that actually provide a real refuge for animals. Really not sure how or why this place is so highly rated and why anybody would be willing to pay so much to go here more than once after seeing how it really is. read more

I was there last week for a friends birthday. We arrived very late or very early depending how you look at it. The hotel is beautifully done in a classic style. The staff was wonderful, very helpful when needing shuttled from the hotel to restaurant and then to the spa. We took a tour of the grounds, then lunch. The reason why I'm giving this a 4 star instead of 5 is because the food could have been better. We ordered room service when we arrived (they have room service around the clock) but the chicken wrap I ordered was poorly wrapped. For starters, when I picked it up all the chicken filling fell out, the quality of the wrap was something that reminded me of a filling station or Target food court. The next day we went to lunch, the restaurant was pretty empty, ( winter time) the decor was very nice I would say Frank Lloyd Wright inspired. Staff was great. However, the soup and sandwich I ordered fell short again. The soup was supposed to come with pepita seeds, it came with sunflower seed. My sandwich was their take of a Reuben, it hardly had any sour kraut. As a matter of fact there was hardly any corned beef at all and it was lacking sauce. Skimpy would be how I described it. Huge disappointment. I would have complained, but we had spa appointments that we didn't want to miss, and didn't have time for them to remake a sandwich. The Spa is so beautIful and relaxing. I can't say enough about the spa. (I left another review on the spa alone.) They even have tea and light snacks you can enjoy after your spa treatments, including pepita seeds. I hope they get the food together because for such a nice resort the food fell way short. read more

I tried very hard to give this 4 stars but little things kept cropping up along the way to keep it at a solid 3 stars. My overall impression of the entire resort is that it's trying very hard to be something it's not. It promotes itself as elegant and luxurious but other than being secluded and exclusive once you're on the grounds, it seems more country bumpkin than high class. I found the pricing to be significantly out of line with the services rendered. There is a shuttle service that is free to use to move between the various resort buildings and activities. We never had to wait long for it but I imagine during peak season, it may be more difficult to get around. It was nice to park the car and not worry with it though, since the resort property is sprawling. Falling Rock - a separate lodge on the grounds. We booked a 3-day stay in a suite. It sits between the 2 golf courses so although we didn't play, it would be an ideal location for golfers. The décor is mostly rock and tile to blend with the environment and is pleasing to the eye. The lobby is open and the entire back of the building is floor to ceiling glass overlooking the courses and the mountains in the distance. There is a restaurant (Aqueous) and bar/lounge area as well as a gift shop on the lobby level. Check in was fast and we were offered complimentary champagne while we waited for our butler to escort us to the suite. Let me say that while the butlers we worked with were very attentive and kind, the whole concept is ridiculously pretentious. There was nothing special about them or their services compared to other resorts in which I've stayed. Calling them butlers is a complete up-sell to charge more for the rooms. Our suite was really not much larger than a hotel room and overlooked the valet station and parking lot. Really not impressed with that aspect particularly for the price. The high ceilings created a draft no matter what we set the thermostat to so we had to bundle up while in the room. The furniture and bathroom fixtures, while clean, could use upgrades. It has an outdated feel to it and the lady's slip is starting to show a bit. The only real WOW factor was the enormous tub (holds 200 gallons). The bathroom was loaded with extra towels and toiletries which was nice and we really enjoyed all of the food, drinks, and services at the restaurant and via room service. Cigar Bar - located in the Chateau around the corner from Lautrec. Honestly, even though I don't smoke and usually avoid being around smokers, I found the Cigar Bar to be one of the best parts of the resort. Housed in the former library and very well ventilated, with a cigar shop adjacent, we enjoyed a nice evening chatting with the knowledgeable and entertaining bartender. And it's certainly a nicer venue for smokers than outside hiding behind a bush. Shooting Academy - my friend did the sporting clays and had a great time. His instructor/assistant was very helpful and supportive. You can bring your own equipment or rent from the resort. There were a few mechanical issues due to the cold, which given the location, is slightly unacceptable to me, but otherwise, he very much enjoyed his time there. read more

To follow up on my previous review of 8/15/18, I see that Nemacolin has only now responded with a boiler plate apology and the assurance that my experience did not reflect the "level of service and commitment to excellence" they strive for. If this were a true 5-Star, they would have resolved my complaint about the awful sleeping surfaces when I was there as well as my complaint that my wife and child were not given access to the pool after a late checkout was arranged...didn't mention that one in my previous review. The fact that their Yelp response has come fully two months after my original review seems only to support not only my original assertions, but those of several other reviewers here. So now appears a better-late-than-never, damage-control apology via Yelp. God forbid they offer me the invitation and means of contact to resolve the issue. An apology is disingenuous at best unless a remedy is offered, and reporting the issue to the appropriate department does no good if that department is the one responsible for the shortcoming to begin with. I will say it again...Nemacolin cannot be the magical place it once was without deference to the methods by which Joe ran it. It was an extension of a kind and generous soul, not the product of iron-fisted fiscal control. The enterprise will suffer more financial loss from the latter than it ever did from Joe's well-meaning extravagance. read more

I have been coming to Nemacolin more than once a year since I was an infant. I am 21 now. *and let me first state for those who have said that good reviews are coming from those who haven't traveled elsewhere, that i have been blessed with parents who love nothing more than to travel the world. And I have been so lucky to be able to stay at 5 star and 5 diamond (there is a difference) resorts all over the globe* We love Nemacolin! It is a mountain resort and has a mountain resort vibe to it. The decor is purposeful. To some it is outdated. However this is the way they want it to look design wise. Just ask. We are in Pa not La. I feel like people might be expecting something different when they book here. The golf course is beautiful and once held the 84 Lumber Classic. It's a difficult course but fun! The outdoor pool is beautiful and the swim up bar is always well staffed! We have never had bad service here and have actually gotten to know on personal levels a lot of the employees here. It's fun to catch up every time we return. The opening of the skiing was very exciting for us. Not many slopes but still very fun! A change for those of us who are so used to seven springs. Also this is one of the only places that allows you to touch (in some cases) and see a multi million dollar art collection without having to be in a museum. This is a personal art collection of the Hardy family and it is so interesting to learn about the pieces and how they obtained them! Also the many Tiffany stained glass lamps and ceilings that are throughout the grounds of the resort are so exciting! I've grown up going to Nemacolin (and falling rock) so maybe I'm a bit bias in my opinions. But again, never have we received bad service. We love it here and will continue to travel to Nemacolin to stay. It's definitely a must try. Especially if you live in Pa. A lot of the activities you can do without actually staying. So a day trip can also be fun if you live close enough. I'm graduating college in the spring and have chosen to get graduation pictures in my cap and gown here. I want to say that the staff is very nice and our butler was awesome. I really can't truly complain except for the price/value. If your are the type that walks around telling everyone how much you paid for stuff, or can't wait to "check in on Facebook" that you were there, then this place is for you. I however like to get what I paid for and by no means did $536 per night provide that. I stayed off season and on the 5th floor in the chateau so I received the best this place has to offer. The restaurants are quality and the prices are in line with other upscale places. The resort is outdated in many areas and needs some TLC. I can only think that the high stars from other viewers are from people that haven't been many places, didn't pay the bill (company functions), or don't know the difference between $10 and $10,000. If you have boat loads of money I would think you have been a few places and would do the rating based on that and not the cost. Either way take this from someone that is 40, worked their whole life to get to a point that allows them to toss money here and there and have been to a few places....you can find better for a ton less. read more

I have struggled for many years to like this place but every time I leave after a stay, I feel a little empty. It's most certainly not a five star experience...not even close and for the money that I've spent there, it should be. It takes a lot for me to write a bad review and to be honest, the only reason that I'm doing it is so that the Hardy Family will take notice. I would love to go back there and be pleasantly surprised by a beautiful resort that is close to home. The Decor: AWFUL...it's a hodge-podge of styles ranging from overly gaudy to furniture from the 90's. Not only is it in poor taste, it is run down. What the previous reviewers said about overall cleanliness and tattered furniture and wallpaper etc. is absolutely true. There is no continuity whatsoever. They need a good designer to come up with an overall plan for the buildings. With that said, Falling Rock is the only building that makes good sense...it's very nice but not fabulous. The lodge should be just that...decorated like a lodge; not 90's cherry colonial furniture. The Chateau rooms make decent sense but even that space and guest rooms are outdated now. The lobby needs refinement. The food: This would be the main reason to come to this resort. The food is VERY good. It's so good, in fact, that it seems like it belongs elsewhere. Eating at Lautrec, for instance, is a true event. The Activities: There is a lot to do but once again, for the exorbitant prices for some of the activities, one would expect a five star experience...not a run-down place. Honestly, I would rather you not add a lot of frivolous "stuff"....activities, casino etc. until you concentrate on the resort itself. I say this selfishly and also because I really want you to succeed. PLEASE update your resort and uphold a five star standard. 4.5 stars It was a spontaneous decision to go away for the weekend... We booked reservations at 3:00pm, and had 2 hours to pack and head north... Initially, we had white water rafting plans @ Ohiopyle State Park, which is 3.5 hours from DC, so instead of hitting the road at 8:00am on a Saturday morning, we decided to go early & stay the weekend... So why Nemacolin? It had a Pet Proud program, meaning my hand-size chihuahua is free to stay/roam/play anywhere within the 3000 acre grounds...PLUS, there was a brand new, and affordable, dog & cat daycare called Wooflands located around the corner...PERFECTO!!! The best way to describe it all? Nemacolin: Expect the unexpected here! It is a world-class, five star resort & spa...and it is GINORMOUS!!! Since it was such a last-minute decision, I had NO IDEA what activities were offered here! It took us about 2 hours to explore all the outdoor activity areas and 1 hour to roam the hallways & shops & restaurants and other amenities inside...YOU WILL NEED TO USE THE MAP THEY GIVE YOU...yup...a map...or you'll get lost!!! Nemacolin is essential the adults' equivalent of Disney World, but for the Adventurous Outdoorsy Enthusiast!!! You'll find activities such as Rock Climbing, Mountain Climbing, Shooting Academy, Off-Track Driving Academy, Archery, Adventure Camp (ziplining/tightrope walking, trapeze, etc...), Tennis, Croquet, Outdoor Mini Putt, Pro Golf, Disc Golf, a private Airport (what???!!!)...almost everything fun & outdoorsy that you could imagine is conveniently located in one location!!! DAMN!!!!! Every corner you take, you discover another awesome fun outdoor activity!!! I was like, WHOOAAHH!!!!!!!! and WHOOOOAAAAAHHHH!!!!!!!! the whole time... PLUS, the service & friendliness of the staff AND other guests here is unreal! EVERYONE, and I mean EVERYONE smiles & says hello, and MOST will approach and actually start conversations! (Or could it be my cute chihuahua???...who always seems to draw attention!)... There are lots of good restaurants to choose, including one of the most reputable in the area; a Frank Lloyd Wright inspired "Aqueos"...the food is VERY good, and beautifully presented, but I found the salty foods slightly too salty, and the sweet foods a tad too sweet for my taste... Not too crazy about the decor, and some of it is cheezy, but even though everything here is really RANDOM; most of it is unrelated to the next, (essentially the owner has had ALL of his collectibles that he bought during his world travels and found a place for them SOMEWHERE in & around the resort).. but somehow, it works for this place...I'm just happy that everything here is VERY CLEAN!!! A bummer is that it's very pricey to stay here! Look for, or wait, for Special Offers on-line! Or save it for a special occasion when you're willing to splurge! And since this resort is so MASSIVE, there are free shuttles that you can wave down at any time. Shuttles come around every 15 minutes, starting at 7:00am to 2:00am...SWEET!!! Beautiful resort with something for everyone! Upon pulling up to the main chateau, you are greeted by a valet in full livery and bellhops! The interior of lobby is spacious and beautifully decorated. Hallways and niches are filled with beautiful art and sculpture as are the grounds.. They have three individual hotel areas-the Chateau, The Lodge and Falling waters. The Lodge is connected to the chateau and to other outbuilding by walkways and bridges so in inclement weather you can stay inside. the other hotel building is separate and quite far away but easily accessible by several shuttles that are only a call away! Activities include tennis, swimming, shooting, golf, rock wall, paintball, off road jeep, hiking, zip line and probably more that I forgot! There is also a beautiful spa with indoor pool, sauna,steam room and hot tub, The family pool and adult pool outside both are heated and have their own hot tubs. For Kids their is a separate indoor pool and arcade area,and an ice cream parlor. A short shuttle ride will bring you to the casino. Restaurants on property range from pizza and burgers to 5 star gourmet! Close to this property is Frank Loyd Wrights Falling Water and Kentucky knob houses and Laurel caverns. We had a very pleasant 4 day stay even though the weather did not cooperate! read more

This place is overrated. I stayed a week at this place for a work event and it was ok but not at the exclusive level it claims. The cigar bar is fun and relaxing even for non-smokers who can tolerate the smoke. The food is good but not stellar chef level so you will get a good meal but nothing to write home about. There isn't much to do off resort grounds so if you don't plan on staying for work or golf, skip it and find somewhere else to take your vacation. read more

This place is fabulous! The sprawling hotel building(s) is beautiful with lovely nooks and crannies to explore and artwork in every corner. The main building also has a variety of restaurants and shops spread throughout the ground floor, as well as ballrooms, conference rooms and the like. The rooms are extremely spacious and the décor within the hotel and the rooms is a well done ornate. But what really sets this place apart is all the stuff there is to do! Off road Hummer course. Rock climbing. Zipline. Rope swing obstacle course. Paintball course. Golf. Full Spa & Salon. Shooting range. Tennis. Animal exhibits (Lions, Hyenas, Moose, Buffalo, Bears & Goats). Antique car display. Horseback riding. Cricket. And this is when it's not snowing. During the winter time, it has all the winter activities. Then there are the tourist things to do off property. The fallingwater house (Famous Frank Loyd Wright house), Laurel caverns, & Ohiopyle State Park (white water rafting and hiking) are just some highlights. So why 4 stars instead of 5? They need more breakfast options, and they need to take a look at their reservations procedure. When we ate on the terrace at the Aquais (which is what we wanted to do anyway) we were told that outdoor dining was all they had left for the evening. While my trip to Nemacolin was predicated by a dinner at Lautrec we arrived quite early and spent hours wandering thr grounds....in a word, "wow." Essentially a wooded Disney Land owned by the man who introduced the United States to 84 Lumber this resort quite literally features something for everyone. From putt putt to golf, from a shooting academy to shopping, from wooded walkways to off road adventures......and that isn't even to mention the rock climbing, archery, ziplines, croquet, tennis (grass courts,) swimming pools, wildlife collection (lions, tigers, bears....and buffalo,) shopping, and fine dining. I mean, really, they have their own airport. With some of the friendliest and down to earth staff I've ever encountered at a resort facility (literally, smiles everywhere) and a largely open door policy to the public there really isn't much to critique about Nemacolin. Sure, it is pricey - but you don't need to rent a room to enjoy the grounds (much of it free.) My review of Lautrec will be seperate, but if you go to Nemacolin I STRONGLY recommend you stop in for dinner....and if you have some free time, Falling Water is just up the road. No one near Philadelphia has heard of this place and I intend to not tell anyone except you. I met up with my friend from Maryland and her mother for a weekend of relaxation and quality time. I never imagined that I would have this much love for a place in the middle of no where! It is an amazing refuge. We stayed at the hotel and it was a beautiful hotel room with wonderful amenities. Do the ART tour. Hardy has a unique collection of artwork and antiques, every corner, there was something else - a 1 ton chandelier-or 8 of them; Hermes silks framed, million dollar Tiffany lighting, I am a history nerd and there is so much to see and explore - even the pool tables were from 1880's...crazy, lots of history and thoughwent into designing this getaway. Food is out of this world. Read my restaurant reviews for Lautrec, Autumn, Tavern and Brunch later.... This is a great place for a conference or a company retreat - not your typical banquet hall- it really is something special. Go ziplining, paintballing, clay shooting, then visit the spa. Don't get the pedicure. If you are from Philly-nothing beats the pedis here in Philly. BUT the Swedish massage and Scrub was worth it. There is an indoor pool-bring your suit as the bathhouse is not a naked one. The steam room and sauna were a nice touch but I have to say that they were too small and not up to standard. The Mandalay Bay - Vegas - Bathhouse is still the best one I have been to. I am looking forward to coming back with my hubby for brunch and dinner. There is so much to do. read more

I always loved the Nemacolin Inn, especially the Chateau. It was quite expensive, but people should pamper themselves occaionally. It adds spice to life. The suites are wonderful, terrific, fantastic. The in-room jacuzzis are also wonderful, as are the restaurants, the zoo, the swimming pools and other amenities. The historic sites in close proximity -- such as Fort Necessity, Jumonville Glen Battlefield site, Braddock's grave, the National Hightway, the historic Stone House and Inn, Frank Lloyd Wright's Falling Water, Kentuck Knob, etc. -- greatly added to the ambience and enjoyment. Nemacolin has boarding facilities for dogs and other pets, but this is one of the issues that may make it difficult for us to stay at Nemacolin again. We recently obtained a rescue mini-Australian Shepherd. This mini-Aussie's disposition is such that she would not take well to a dog kennel. Moreover, we would not want to expose her to the risk of getting kennel cough or some other illness, resulting from being in prolonged, close proximity to other dogs. The other make or break issue is that apparently room rates and other resort fees have gone up by a factor of two to three. That is amazing, and not in a good way. The resort hotel was already quite expensive The large price increases, as well as the inability to keep dogs in the rooms at the chateau or any other part of the hotel resort, definitely will mean that we will never again travel to the Nemacolin resort. As I say, Nemacolin is wonderfu, terric, fantastic, out of this world good. However, the resort hotel is also now out of this world expensive. It is almost certainy out of our reach now. Nemacolin is, nevertheless, wonderful for those people fortunate enough to be able to afford to stay there. Somebody in a previous post on this site asserted that Nemacolin is now just another playground for the top 1% of the popuation in income and wealth, the plutocracy. I do not go in to for left wing or classist rhetoric, but even most members of the upper middle class will feel that Nemacolin is beyond their reach. read more

I'm writing for our experience @ Nemacolin's Mystic Mountain (Skiing) From the Nemacolin website: "Mystic Mountain is Western Pennsylvania's ideal learning environment for first-time skiers, with 25 acres of fun, short lines, friendly trails and experienced instructors." ...and that excerpt is very accurate! We took one of our nephews here for a first time ski trip and it was a perfect choice! For ski rentals and your lift ticket it was $20 through the end of March 2010--such a good deal for the kinds of slopes that newbs need! There's not too much area, but if you're a first timer, this is probably the best place to get used to "how" to ski and to help you get familiar with entering and exiting ski lifts. Its especially awesome because if the person who you're taking skiing for the first time absolutely *hates* it after the first couple of runs... it only costs $20! Nemacolin, itself, is a fantastic and beautiful resort. The only thing that it lacks is better exit signing! LOL We were up here for the second major snowfall that PA received in the 2010 and it was impossible to get out at night and with that snow!
