A geyser, and they say it's the only one in Oregon!

We are on a month-long road trip just passing through. Not many food options so we started by having a beer with the locals at the Eagles Nest Food & Spirits in Lakeview. Before that, we had stopped by Neon Cowboy to be sure it would open at 4 as advertised. The manager, Michael, was super nice and gave us a tour. After our beer in town we headed back to the restaurant. Megan served us our drinks and I had a delicious Caesar salad, baked potato and ribeye steak. Hubby had the cowboy pie and loved it. Reason for 4 stars is many flies in the restaurant while we ate. Enjoyed a fun view of the geyser and visiting with the owner's pup, Duke.

A very interesting trip, to say the very least. Overall we had a lot of fun and laughs, but we won't be coming back anytime soon. This is an honest review. Neon Cowboy did try to compensate us, but I feel people should know about some safety concerns, especially if traveling alone. When we arrived there was no one at the front desk and we had to search for someone, but when we did, he was very kind and helpful. There's also a cute little dog on the property that came to greet us! Our room was clean and cute, though it took a long time for the shower water to heat up--and mine never fully got hot. Dinner was great. The food came out fast, the Alfredo was clearly homemade, and the bartender went out of their way to make me a cocktail that wasn't on the menu. I loved the paper and crayons on the tables and the game room is BEAUTIFUL--such a vibe! The hot springs were disappointing. They drain and refill the pools on certain days, and when we arrived Friday night the water wasn't warm at all. It was clean, but barely tolerable with the cold weather. Now for the biggest issue: Friday night another guest was mistakenly given a key to our room and unlocked our door while we were inside. He was very apologetic and this was clearly a front desk error. When we went to lock the door afterward, we realized there was no deadbolt or way to lock the door from ONLY the inside, just a basic lock. We slept with a chair in front of the door, which was unsettling to say the least. I'm thankful I wasn't staying alone and that the situation didn't turn worse. The hotel is in the process of giving us a refund for this issue though, so that's appreciated. Other guests were lovely and we had great interactions throughout our stay, which was a highlight, made friends with our neighbors and with another couple at dinner. Overall, I'm knocking off one star for the room key mix-up/lack of a deadbolt and another for the hot spring being cold. Definitely a memorable experience--and one we'll be laughing about--but sleeping soundly matters.

Good: Sam and other staff friendly. Nice bar and hang out area in main building with darts and pool tables. Stayed at the hotel and renovated rooms were good. Parking lot is not all the way paved. Pretty sunrises and sunsets. The bar is set up for live bands and the owner was okay to accommodate guest hours. Bad: Older room I checked into was not clean, toilet full, decided not to post the photo. The sheets smelled like the former guest. The hot water was scalding hot and hard to turn on, then dripped. No resolve. Walked around the property and the people living there had several dogs and I felt like I almost got bit. Not many choices in this area.

1/3 of the lovely wedge salad.,

The first time I went there I did not 'feel the love' from what turned out to be the owner. The staff have always been nice to me. I look pretty rough, so I get that a lot. But I let him know how I felt and he made it right, and I gave the Red Rooster another chance. A little Lakeview history first. Lakeview is geographically isolated and the closest big town (not city) is Klamath Falls 100 miles away. Lakeview is a very conservative place that was settled by the Irish and Scottish who immigrated in the late 1800's along the Oregon Trail/Applegate trail. The Albertsons apparently one of the clans that came here during the potato famine in the mid to late 19th century and are still here today. All really nice people and non judgemental from my experience. Now for the review... I had the stuffed mushrooms and Steak salad last night. Mushrooms were SMOKING...Steak salad was good but could have used some Avocado and tomato for the price. Dallas's chicken is great and so are his fries... 10% veterans discount makes his food taste even better. Service is good and friendly. If you are driving through Lakeview OR, It's a good place to stop. There is not a big variety of food here and the food is pretty good wherever you eat here in good old Lakeview. The only place I would not recommend is the Eagles Nest. Don't get me wrong, the food is not bad, just kinda regular bar/diner food and steak, but the disrespect I experienced changed me from a regular customer into a place I will not spend a dime in. See my Review of the Eagle's Nest, Lakeview OR for more jucy Oregon outback drama soon.

One of the owners does the cooking. Very good food and variety of options. Service was also good!read more

Had a table of 4 and drove in from Klamath. (2hrs)…read more Ordered three steaks and a chicken. Kind of a blunder because the chicken was great too- because there's so much food I'd recommend a couple to get one of each and share. There will be plenty of either for two meals. We were served a salad first, it came with homemade ranch and honey mustard. Our waitress recommended doing both. I personally don't like mustard but when in Rome... it was actually awesome. Soup and bread to follow- the soup was a very homey style soup. I personally thought it was okay/good but the other 3 at the table loved it. The bread was fresh and super soft. Lastly the meat! And a baked potato- steak was good, chicken was good. For some reason I loved the baked potato. It was done perfectly, usually not a fan of baked potatoes. All in all awesome- as other have mentioned, no alcohol but the drinks were great anyways. Also stopped by the gift shop and got some hats and coozies (reasonably priced) Although it was a drive and the building itself is a little rinky dink- it is well worth the visit and the $50 per person. I highly recommend anyone to go try it once and make a fun day trip out of it. Not sure I'll be visiting for some time again, but will definitely tell people to go check it out!
