I was here for a special occasion and decided to splurge on the ribeye, the star of the show as I've been told. I ordered it rare, and I asked for specifically no salad. I don't like wasting food and all I wanted was the smashed potato for a side. The steak arrived; it was not a cut id associate with a fifty dollar entree and as it was set in front of me I clarified whether it was rare and the server confirmed it was. It was medium done for most of it and medium rare in a couple of bites. A whole side of vegetables (cooked from what I'm assuming is a frozen mix was on the plate as well, and I don't know where that came from. They were not good. That was a side that cheapened the whole dish and the steak did not deliver. I'll be trying the other steakhouse in town or just order a basic entree to not be disappointed next time. read more

I didn't stay here but we came here for dinner which was actually surprisingly decent. The restaurant decor is a mix of western and chic bar and the waitresses are friendly and cute. The restaurant offers the standard bar/restaurant food and I actually found the quality to be much better than anything else in the whole Lakeview area. If you stay at Lakeview you'd know food choices are extremely limited so I'm really glad this place exists and I've heard it's been recently updated. The location is next to a geyser which by itself is a great place to visit. We have a similar one close to Napa and that costs like $15 to visit whereas this is right next to the restaurant. The food is good for the location. I enjoyed my chicken fried ribeye. The portion is good. For those that doesn't know chicken fried ribeye is actually a thin battered ribeye that's been fried so it has no chicken just beef. Normally other places would cut a leaner cut (not ribeye) but I do like the ribeye in this case. For those who had schnitzel or cotolleta alla milanese this is very similar although these would use veal. Overall this is probably the best meal I've had in Lakeview and if I do go back I'd go to this place again for sure. read more

We are on a month-long road trip just passing through. Not many food options so we started by having a beer with the locals at the Eagles Nest Food & Spirits in Lakeview. Before that, we had stopped by Neon Cowboy to be sure it would open at 4 as advertised. The manager, Michael, was super nice and gave us a tour. After our beer in town we headed back to the restaurant. Megan served us our drinks and I had a delicious Caesar salad, baked potato and ribeye steak. Hubby had the cowboy pie and loved it. Reason for 4 stars is many flies in the restaurant while we ate. Enjoyed a fun view of the geyser and visiting with the owner's pup, Duke. read more

A very interesting trip, to say the very least. Overall we had a lot of fun and laughs, but we won't be coming back anytime soon. This is an honest review. Neon Cowboy did try to compensate us, but I feel people should know about some safety concerns, especially if traveling alone. When we arrived there was no one at the front desk and we had to search for someone, but when we did, he was very kind and helpful. There's also a cute little dog on the property that came to greet us! Our room was clean and cute, though it took a long time for the shower water to heat up--and mine never fully got hot. Dinner was great. The food came out fast, the Alfredo was clearly homemade, and the bartender went out of their way to make me a cocktail that wasn't on the menu. I loved the paper and crayons on the tables and the game room is BEAUTIFUL--such a vibe! The hot springs were disappointing. They drain and refill the pools on certain days, and when we arrived Friday night the water wasn't warm at all. It was clean, but barely tolerable with the cold weather. Now for the biggest issue: Friday night another guest was mistakenly given a key to our room and unlocked our door while we were inside. He was very apologetic and this was clearly a front desk error. When we went to lock the door afterward, we realized there was no deadbolt or way to lock the door from ONLY the inside, just a basic lock. We slept with a chair in front of the door, which was unsettling to say the least. I'm thankful I wasn't staying alone and that the situation didn't turn worse. The hotel is in the process of giving us a refund for this issue though, so that's appreciated. Other guests were lovely and we had great interactions throughout our stay, which was a highlight, made friends with our neighbors and with another couple at dinner. Overall, I'm knocking off one star for the room key mix-up/lack of a deadbolt and another for the hot spring being cold. Definitely a memorable experience--and one we'll be laughing about--but sleeping soundly matters. read more

Neon? More like Ne-yawn: A Wild Lukewarm Weekend at the Not-So-Hot Springs" We saddled up for a Saint Patrick's Day weekend at the Neon Cowboy Roadhouse, ready for rustic charm and a good soak. What we got was more yee-naw than yeehaw. Let's start with the highlight--yes, singular. The king room bed was comfy, and the mini splits kept the temperature just right. If your dream weekend is lying in bed adjusting the thermostat, boy do I have the place for you! Now, onto the "hot" springs. And by hot, I mean tepid. Lukewarm. Barely bathwater. Apparently, the natural spring water starts at a piping 155°F, but through some mystical art (or sheer negligence), it never cracked 95. Maybe they're pioneering the next trend: Cryotherapy... but make it slightly uncomfortable. The staff? Elusive. Like Bigfoot, but less helpful. The check-in desk was more of a decorative suggestion, and the restaurant pulled a disappearing act on Saturday morning. No complimentary breakfast, no explanation--just the sweet scent of abandonment. The roadhouse itself is riding the fine line between "rustic" and "structurally questionable." They've slapped some new siding on the outside, but inside it's giving strong "post-apocalyptic cowboy yard sale" vibes. The decor is more sad saddle than Old West chic. The shuffleboard table? It's got more character than function. And the clear plastic dining chairs--because nothing says cowboy authenticity like your grandma's patio furniture. Food-wise, it's a gamble. Sunday breakfast took 40 minutes with exactly one other table there. Maybe they had to go lasso the eggs. Dinner was a rollercoaster: the spinach artichoke dip, ribeye, and fish tacos were actually decent. The Earl Grey old fashioned was a surprising delight--because nothing pairs better with cowboy pie than British tea-infused whiskey, right? Speaking of the cowboy pie... if regret were a casserole, this would be it. A mystery pile of fatty, overcooked meat bits (think shoe leather's disappointing cousin) atop frozen veggies that probably saw more excitement in a microwave dinner. Those beans? I still have questions--and not the good kind. As for the drinks menu, it's more of a wish list. They were out of most options. But hey, at least there was hard cider in a can--classy! Good: Sam and other staff friendly. Nice bar and hang out area in main building with darts and pool tables. Stayed at the hotel and renovated rooms were good. Parking lot is not all the way paved. Pretty sunrises and sunsets. The bar is set up for live bands and the owner was okay to accommodate guest hours. Bad: Older room I checked into was not clean, toilet full, decided not to post the photo. The sheets smelled like the former guest. The hot water was scalding hot and hard to turn on, then dripped. No resolve. Walked around the property and the people living there had several dogs and I felt like I almost got bit. Not many choices in this area. read more

What a fun hidden gem! Just popped in for dinner but want to come back for the full experience! Cool old school roadhouse vibe- fun drink menu and solid old school dinner menu. Cobb "wedge" salad wasn't a wedge at all, but nonetheless delicious. Partner's burger classic and tasty. Great view of a pond and fun looking out for the geyser to blow. Only critique- we got eaten alive by mosquitoes, inside. But service friendly, beer cold, and tasty dinner. read more

The proprietors of this motel and restaurant complex have worked very hard to bring elevated dining to this small community. They have succeeded, turning a dilapidated hot springs and café into a really cool place. The restaurant has lots of atmosphere with the log cabin walls and Western decor. The menu is limited to meaty dishes : no surprise for a steakhouse! I saw the pics of tasty pasta dishes on Yelp reviews so thought I could choose something lighter, but no. So when in Rome... we split a prime rib dinner with a split Cowboy wedge salad. Both were perfectly prepared and delicious, served on a standard prison-issue metal tray. A nice touch for the common man! The server was personable and attentive. This place is a real gem. I do think they should offer one lighter meal on the menu. If you're a guest at the motel and want to eat here but not necessarily a big serving of meat and potatoes there should be an option for you, and it should include some veggies. There was a modest but adequate wine list, of which we did partake. Overall, they've done a very nice job in renovating a dilapidated dump into a destination- worthy restaurant. read more

we recently had the opportunity to stay at the neon cowboy resort. also known as hunter hot springs. stayed 5 days straight in our rv next to the large pond as you enter the property. we had a great stay. we ate at the neon cowboy restaurant multiple times. The food was great. well diverse menu. good tap selection with full bar. service top notch. the facility is awesome. game room included shuffle board pool darts fooseball all set in a classy western atmosphere. The hotwater pool is refreshing clean well maintained with an incredible view. clean shower and soft towels provided. staff is very friendly. while I can't vouch for the motel rooms but they did look clean and comfortable when we walked by with our dogs which they are very dog friendly. The owners dogs are very friendly Duke and Murphy. All in all great place to stay. I highly recommend it to overland campers! read more

This not a steak house. They have prime rib on Friday and Saturday but no steaks. Spaghetti, pork ribs, Italian sausage. Good luck finding it, no signage. If you look up Hunter's hot springs and find the little building with a neon beer sign in a window you're there. Nice people, looks like mostly locals. The Neon Cowboy is big on comfort and full on charm--great food, great people, and a genuinely eclectic atmosphere. I'm not sure what I had in mind but this place exceeded whatever my expectations may have been. The menu is not accurate by any means!!! Yes they have a few steak options and the crab cake...and I believe everything on the "kids" menu has been transferred for everyone but otherwise it's now the fare you would expect for Eastern Oregon. 4 stars for the middle of nowhere and for what we got--the rib-eye and meatloaf. read more
