Huge fan of Neon Fig! We visited during our Masters weekend trip and LOVED the food, cocktails and ambiance. Dawn was an excellent server and pointed us in all of the right directions for our night out in Aiken, SC. Get the polenta fries and Brussels! It was our first time visiting, and overall the experience started off fine. We ordered Bloody Marys, which were just average--not bad, but nothing memorable. My husband ordered the brisket grilled cheese, which was absolutely delicious, and I ordered the shrimp and grits, which were phenomenal at first. Unfortunately, a few bites in, I found a black hair in my food. Our server did apologize and immediately took the dish back to be remade, which I appreciated. However, I was honestly too grossed out to want to eat it again, and I wasn't given any option--whether to remake it or have it removed from the bill. What was more disappointing was how the situation was handled afterward. No manager came over to apologize, and nothing was comped or discounted on the bill. It was clear the staff was aware of the situation, as several employees came out and repeatedly stared at us, which made us feel uncomfortable. I understand that mistakes happen, but it's how they're handled that matters. With better service recovery, this could have been a completely different experience. As it stands, it left a bad impression. I would consider giving them another chance, but only if situations like this are handled more professionally in the future. read more

For the life of me I can't figure out how this restaurant is still open. Maybe because the other restaurants aren't open for lunch? Every time I come here there is an excuse for the disaster of what's happening with both food and service. The cocktails are actually good. But everything else...... no. I just watched two tables have their "tickets lost" and not get food. The party of six next to me waited over an hour for food..... I actually feel bad for the servers as this is clearly a kitchen and lack of management issue. The disaster is not their fault....but they pay the price. There are better options for food and service so don't bother. Such a missed opportunity for greatness And the glass..... please clean your glass. It's gross! This was, without exaggeration, the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant--or really any business. We walked in around 6:00 PM on a Saturday night as a party of six plus a baby. The restaurant was only about half full, and we were told we could be seated immediately. As soon as we sat down, we ordered fries as an appetizer specifically so we could get the baby fed. Those fries took nearly an hour to arrive. We placed the rest of our order about 15 minutes after sitting down. Roughly 15 minutes later, our waitress returned to tell us they were out of the chimichurri steak my daughter had ordered, so she selected a different steak. About 30 minutes after that--approximately 45 minutes after we had originally ordered--our waitress came back again to tell us they were also out of the steak frites another person in our party had ordered. At that point, that person gave up on ordering an entrée and just asked for yucca fries. Then we waited. At an hour and 15 minutes after ordering, we still had no food. The restaurant was now about three-quarters empty. Our waitress didn't seem to know what was happening and said she would check. At an hour and a half, still no food. The table next to us was experiencing the exact same thing. They had arrived and ordered before we did and still hadn't received their food either. At that point, it became obvious that food simply was not coming out of the kitchen. We asked again, and a manager finally came over. We were told they had a new chef, things weren't going smoothly, they were sorry, and they would discount our meal. We were also assured that our food was being plated. Another 20 minutes passed. Still no food. Eventually, one of our six meals came out: the yucca fries. They were raw and uncooked in the middle and completely inedible. Next came a burger that had been ordered medium. It was extremely well done and also inedible. At that point, we were done. We had been in the restaurant for more than 2 1/2 hours. The baby had understandably had enough, and another member of our party was physically feeling sick because she needed to eat and had gone all evening without food. We left before the rest of our meals ever made it to the table. And somehow, the food disaster wasn't the only problem. The air conditioning wasn't working, and one of the restaurant's two single-stall bathrooms was out of order. I understand that restaurants have bad nights. Kitchens get backed up. Employees call out. New staff need time to adjust. But this went far beyond a normal bad night. If a kitchen is so dysfunctional that it cannot produce meals for guests after two hours--while the restaurant is steadily emptying--the responsible thing to do is stop seating people or, at the very least, immediately tell customers there is a serious kitchen delay and give them the option to leave. Instead, we were seated immediately, allowed to order food the kitchen apparently could not produce, repeatedly told items weren't available long after ordering them, left waiting for hours, and finally served food that wasn't properly cooked. I don't think it's called a neon fig anymore. It's another name somebody a polo player company took it over. That's what they are doing many restaurants in Aiken. The food quality has gone down. The price has gone up -same old song and dance! This is a nice location, with welcoming outdoor seating in front. We were seated quickly, and allowed to have our preferred seating at a bench seat four-top. (We like to sit beside each other.) Our server was top notch. She understood food sensitivities, and was helpful. She also checked on us throughout our meal to ensure we had what we needed. Food: The Shrimp Tacos on Corn Tortillas were Tiny. There were three on the plate, and with a side of Fruit, it was sufficient as a light lunch. Decided to check this place out for lunch with my husband. It's in a cute little part of downtown Aiken with lots of street parking available. We were seated quickly and our waiter came by promptly for our drink and food order. We tried the croissant beignets for an appetizer, and we ordered the best fried chicken sandwich and chilaquiles (I think a seasonal/limited menu item). All of the food items were delicious and came out quickly. I had a passionfruit mimosa which was equally amazing. Stopped in for lunch today! Decent crowd and cute atmosphere. Scott was our server and he was super quick and efficient. We ordered the brisket grilled cheese and The friend chicken sandwich. Food came out quick. The brisket sandwich was a little too much meat for my liking but it was good quality. I would've liked to have a tangy, acid component such as coleslaw to balance it a bit more. If you want something different, this is the spot. I had the shrimp and grits, and let me tell you...they were so creamy and good and hot and delish! I ate the last bite with a little sadness in my heart. The restaurant is in the middle of Aiken, and within walking distance of a lot of shops and other places to spend a little cash. The service was wonderful, the food was great and hot, and everything came out in a rather timely manner. The waitress came out to check on us multiple times, and made us feel right at home. I want to start by saying that I am not one to leave negative reviews. If I have a bad experience, I typically understand that places have off days. However, this experience was one I have to talk about. Firstly, the restaurant was not packed on a Friday evening. Hours before close. There were about 4 other tables and multiple waiters. Secondly, I am not sure if our waiter was new. Very nice man, but did not know the menu nor prices. Which is fine because I realized he may have been new. We got our water refilled after 20 minutes of waiting when they were empty. We sat down and waited about 15-20 minutes to order. We then proceeded to wait another 63 minutes until our food came. My Bourbon Mustard Chicken came before my spouse's Steak Frites and we waited 6 minutes before his food got sat down. The chicken was dry and salty. Cold as well. My spouse's steak was barely edible. It was extremely fatty and dry even with the gravy (the same exact gravy that was on my chicken mind you). We ordered brussels sprouts that were not how the menu described them. I will say, they do potatoes well. We told the manager about the food, service and wait time. He was unprofessional in how he spoke to us (constantly interrupting) and kept saying how he would get us a new steak in 5 minutes and it would be "the best steak we've ever had" although we told him we didn't want one we just wanted to tell him the issue of wait times and quality. Overall, we will not be back although I was expecting something spectacular based off reviews. Maybe breakfast is better. read more

I always like to explore new venues in food. This was today's . The menu is a bit eccentric but nonetheless I found a diamond in the rough. I got the French toast with the crunchy stuff on it listens this is like a half of a birthday cake the most delicious French toast I ever had in my life. I got a set of sausage. This is the best sausage I ever had in the South you can tell it's either homemade or locally made it was very fresh it was cooked well simply delicious. The ambiance inside of the restaurant was very comforting very soothing to have music playing people enjoying the sales talking at a nice low audible toe they had outside seating. I've already seen what I'm coming back for the next time some type of toast with a Big slice of brisket or something on it. Ok...we are occasional regulars now. The food is always good & the drinks are cold. Marvin & Cecelia really got the menu and ambiance here right. Staff is always super friendly and recognize us when we come in. Is a perfect location to meet with friends or go solo at the bar. This is a distinctive institution in Aiken's downtown; I don't know where else I'd go to get the fresh, local menu with options for vegetarian and other dietary needs. When I found an excuse to stop by, my service experience was less than stellar. The place was full and they took our name and number and walked around the town, but returning a half hour later we had not been called and our name had been crossed off the list. Eventually, they got us a table. Our server was quite busy and we waited a while at each stage of service. The most charitable way of looking in it is that the place was so busy they were struggling to keep up. However, the food delivered, and I don't come to Aiken because I'm in a hurry. I lustily glanced at other tables' indulgent French Toast, but had enough restraint to order a quinoa bowl with some sort of vegan pesto, which was beautifully presented and delivered fresh flavors. Asking to split one of their salads gave us two separate bowls with a nice portion of deliciously sweet-tinged greens and seeds. I could have ordered other things as well, and there aren't a ton of places in the area that I can say that about. So, be prepared for a wait at peak hours, but this is clearly a worthy destination. read more

Neon fig is one of the nicest places to grab a sumptuous meal and good drink in the Aiken area. Situated in the heart of downtown, it's also a great place to visit when parades or downtown events are happening as you're right in the thick of it-with a delicious cocktail beside you too! Their food is fantastic, and my favorite dishes are the heavier ones with brisket-the burger is the best, followed closely by the grilled cheese. These are intense meals, so don't expect to get a lot done besides sitting around and recovering after eating here. Be aware that you have to pay extra for fries, which is a disappointing stain against this otherwise really great place. Their cocktails are creative and memorable, and their beer list, although on the shorter side, has something for everyone. The inside dining room is very trendy and upscale, although it can get loud if it's full. I usually prefer eating outside under an umbrella to enjoy the beautiful southern sun and let my kid wander a bit more than they can do inside. The service is really hit or miss here. The servers are always super nice, but the time it takes to get your food can vary from ~10 minutes to an hour after you order. I think this is due to the huge change Aiken experiences from normal small town operations to when there's a large influx of people during some event. They seem to get overwhelmed, which is totally understandable, but nevertheless not a totally pleasant experience. read more

We were very disappointed in the Neon Fig. We were there on 4-30-26. The service was poor. It took so long to get basic drinks. we were not offered water. There was no bread or roll with dinner. We had to ask for salt and pepper. The steak was overpriced and the meat was rough. The mashed potatoes were almost liquid like and very small portions. Our server was not friendly at all. Great local diner in downtown Aiken. Friendly staff and trendy retro interior vibe. Brunch menu includes a variety of egg dishes along with a few signature sandwiches, salads, and bowls. This visit we opted for the loaded potato bowl and farro bowl. The potato bowl came with a variety of purple, white, and sweet potatoes and included scallions, bacon and a tasty hollandaise sauce. Particularly appreciated how the bowl was not overly saturated in sauce. While I did not opt to do so, the bowl can be served with brisket served a top. The Farro bowl was not what I was expecting. While it was a hearty portion it was heavy on the farro. I would have preferred there to have been more of the squash, avocado, and arugula. The bowl also included sautéed mushrooms which I found to be overly vinegary. I opted to top the bowl with a poached egg which honestly was the best part of the bowl. While I would not order this dish again I would definitely return. The Neon fig also has a full service liquor and coffee bar. read more

Another fabulous lunch! We stopped for a bit before touring and the nourishment was just right - I had a fried chicken sandwich that was unbelievably crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, it was served with jalapeño slaw (I had it on the side) and fries that were worth the calories. We love the Neon Fig and always had a good experience. In December they closed but immediately reopened under new owners. Our dining friends wanted to give it a try so we went on Thursday. To say the least, it was very disappointing. We sat in back with a light that kept going off than on every couple of minutes which became very annoying. We ordered our food and drinks - no problem. When our food finally arrived after an hour and an a half, it was mediocre at best. Four of our friends had the Steak Frites - all the steaks were tough and grissley. The fries were limp and soggy. I had the black cod which was good but another friend had the same dish and it must not have been cooked completely because he couldn't even cut it with a knife! I also had a side of Brussels sprouts that were barely warm. Our waiter, Seth, was pretty stressed at the length of time it took to get our food. After he finally brought it out, he never inquired how any thing was as he was frantically serving other customers. We did complain to the manager and he explained the kitchen staff was overwhelmed because they decided to add a Valentine's menu along with the regular one. While he removed the 20% tip for 8 people, nothing was done about the food. Seth did his best and was a good waiter and we tipped him appropriately. We, however, won't be back for some time and will keep a look out for more positive reviews in the future. read more

We are new to Aiken and decided to try the Neon Fig for a Sunday brunch. We were able to call ahead and get our names down for a table outside which turned out to be helpful because they were BUSY! The staff were fairly nice though not out of this world pleasant or unpleasant. The outdoor seating is quite nice when the weather cooperates but they have plenty of indoor seating as well. The service was alright but we had to wait 30-45 min for our food after it was ordered, which was a bit unexpected and challenging with our baby in tow who didn't want to cooperate for that long. When they brought our food, our server asked if we wanted hot sauce or salt and pepper, to which we said yes and also asked for another dipping sauce. The server or whoever was supposed to bring those forgot until I had already finished my food and my husband only had a little bit left, so that was unfortunate. They were also a little bit slow to fill waters. I'm attributing most of this to being really busy and understaffed because my husband said their weekday service was better and the restaurant was much less crowded. I had the eggs Benedict that were very well done and I'm looking forward to getting them again someday! I also ordered the spiced pear mule and it was delicious and very appropriate for the fall and winter seasons. We enjoyed our outdoor seating, the indoor seating was full and quite noisy so with a baby I'm not sure that would've worked very well for us but it didn't look too bad otherwise. The only thing I was disappointed in was the hostess who seated us wasn't very pleasant and the fact that our food took so long and they forgot to bring our seasonings until the very end. But since my husband said their weekdays aren't as bad, I will definitely give them another try because they have a delicious looking menu and it's a convenient location in downtown Aiken. read more

And the vibe is chill! I had the farro bowl. That spicy sauce on top was super yum. All the flavors perfectly melded together for a hearty lunch. We went here from brunch, and honestly, the food was amazing! It is really easy for fried chicken to be dry, who are chicken was juicy and flavorful, and the breading was excellent. Both me and my boyfriend really enjoyed our drinks as well, although the mimosas were on the pricey side. We were seated pretty quickly, and we were kind of a large party, so I was pleasantly surprised. The overall ambience is very nice, and it gives off the vibes of a chill brunch spot. I had to take off one star, because honestly, our server was kind of rude, and upset one of my friends, which put a damper on the whole experience.
