I had such an amazing breakfast here. I loved it and will want to come back here one day. I ordered the harvest moon breakfast that comes with the best french toast I've ever had, 2 eggs, sausage, bacon, and hashbrowns. This was lot of food and I did share part of it with my kid but I was able to eat most of it myself. The french toast had the perfect amount of crispiness and also softness. It was sprinkled with confectionery sugar and was the perfect amount of sweetness. I did not even need to add additional syrup to it. I will be raving about this for a while now that I have had this. The front area has a small bar and several seats scattered around, but the restaurant has a large back space. The place looks and feels like a diner, what more can I say? Food: My friends and I came for breakfast, so I can't comment on the rest. We got a combination of omelets and breakfast platters. I got the "mexican omelet" which is filled with chili and cheese. It will give you a heart attack, but it was cholesterol-filled nightmare I wanted. The rest of my friends enjoyed their meals, so it looks like their breakfast menu at least gets a solid review. Service: We had a large party of nearly 10 people and while we couldn't sit together, the waitress did a good job finding tables close together. I honestly have no idea why everyone raves about Neptune Diner. I was expecting so much from this diner and was extremely disappointed. The service was slow and forgetful and the food was mediocre at best. I ordered my eggs over medium and the yolks were completely hard. The pancakes were an absolute disgrace (not much better than a battered brick) and took over 45 minutes to get them. The coffee literally tasted like someone added half a scoop of instant coffee to an entire pot of coffee -- basically water. I honestly don't know why everyone was raving about the Neptune Diner. I seriously don't understand what most others find impressive about this eatery. So far, the most overpriced and underserving diner in my life. Even Wafflehouse is much cheaper and tastes fresher. I called to double check if it's still ok to dine in at the last hour given that many kitchens close a bit earlier then. The person who answered said just come on in because they meant they stop seating or taking people in by their advertised closing time. It was Saturday night and the place was empty. I should've taken it as a red flag in the first place because I know a diner is good when it's crowded on a Friday or Saturday night even around close. Service was satisfactory. According to our server of the night, it was her first day. Understandable she had to double check with her coworker to pass on menu clarifications. They were being professional as possible. My date ordered a cheesesteak sub with fries and I ordered chicken tenders with mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli. I tasted freezer burn in the tenders and broccoli. Mashed potato was unevenly mashed. Not to mention pretty bland. According to my date (and I agree after trying a bite of her order), cheesesteak and fries were bland. Although having mayo in cheesesteak is typically the norm, having marinara sauce with it instead didn't sound farfetched to me. Adding ketchup and salt to the fries and salt to cheesteak with marinara salvaged things a bit. Honestly the only items with any flavor to begin with were pretty much the soft drinks we ordered. Portions weren't even really satisfying given our check totalled to $28. Nice little spot for lunch. Apparently they are famous for their meatloaf. I had the meatloaf Benedict. It was pretty good. However the poached egg was cooked hard. My wife had the western omelette. She really enjoyed it and it came out in a cast iron skillet. I also really liked that sourdough bread was an option for the toast. My father had the chop steak. It was huge. The fries that came with it were fresh cut. The waitress was very friendly and accommodating. Overall a good experience. If we are in the area again I would stop in. read more

Ah, the good old Neptune diner... you know, I've lived in Lancaster my whole life and never went here until today. Fun fact, this place opened in 1941!!! I went for the breakfast and got their crab omelet. While it tasted good, I was a little disappointed. Their crab cake inside the omelet was not real crab. I'm pretty sure they used the cheap crab cake sold in 4 packs at giant and the other local supermarkets that uses fake crab meat (could have crab in them but it's filled with lots of fillers and surimi). I'm not saying that they get their crab cake from the supermarket. They probably buy them bulk. Fake crab cake omelet fir $9.25 made me a little crabby to be honest :( read more

Really wonderful place! The food is great, the portions are very generous, and the staff are so kind!! What more could you want from a diner? I had the one of their hometown specials, a cheese omelette smothered in cream chipped beef and a bit of cheddar cheese (I'd leave off the cheese next time but that's just my preference). The flavors were on point. My mom had a Thanksgiving wrap which she said was also incredibly flavorful. We were pleasantly surprised to find that many many items are homemade - apple dumpling, sticky bun, fries, biscuits, just so much!! I had an omelette and potatoes which was great. I had the Neptune Meatloaf Melt: Meatloaf with Swiss cheese, tomato, onion and chipotle mayo, served on grilled French toast. It was delicious! The meatloaf has a great taste and the right bite to it. The French toast had an apple and slightly sweet taste. It was interesting mixing all the tastes together, but it worked. The Neptune was probably good at some point. My parents drag me here if we ever go out together. The service is fair to average. Our waitress brought half of our food with the plates (and food) resting on her chest. Another waitress with a short bob style hairdo carried her tray on her shoulder and her hair rested on top of people's food. Our waitress didn't bring us utensils, napkins, syrup, cream, and some other things we ordered unless we asked - sometimes twice. The ceiling tiles are dirty and drooping. The staff in the back of the house keeps their personal belongings with customer food just what I can see walking in. The seating in the back room is crowded and uncomfortable. The food is reasonably priced but slathered in fake liquid butter and the last few times my scrambled eggs were quite runny. It's just okay. read more

This is a great diner. Conveniently located near, but not right in, downtown Lancaster, I hit the Neptune Diner twice, once for breakfast and once for lunch. Both times were very good. My friend eggs were made just right, the sausage was delicious and the waitress did not even blink when I asked for a ladle of chili poured over the plate. That's St. Louis style, a slinger. The waitress was nice and attentive. I could not really have asked for more. The lunch was a meatloaf with mashed potatoes. The serving was large and delicious. Unlike some diners, the potatoes were not lumpy. And there was plenty of gravy to go around. The Neptune exudes that feel of diners gone by, where you pop in after a night out and bond a bit more with your pals. I hope the people of Lancaster appreciate it as much as I did. read more

A table for our two families was made pronto, service was good, and the food was decent. Coffee refills came quickly, and the Greek omelet ($8.50) was a favorite by 4 in our party. Waitress was patient when a water spill drenched a table. The only gripe was the prices, which seemed a two dollars too high for every menu item. Anytime I'm in Lancaster, I have to stop here. Why? Because it's a diner, duh! It's right down the road from the Amtrak train station so it is all about location location location. It still has that railroad metal siding to give it the genuine diner feel as you walk in, and it's not very large and they have extra seating in the back. Generally, the meals are pretty generic, yet delicious. I can always choose to go somewhere else but this is the closest one that suits my needs when I'm in town. The prices are a little bit up there in comparison to some other places, but considering it is just outside of Downtown Lancaster and right by the train station, it makes for a prime business location. I never see it completely empty. It is one of my go to spots after a night at the Brickyard or heavy drinking at one of the dive bars around the way, but normally a go to when I roll into town to take care of family matters with the ex. The customer service is top-notch. Due to my phone dying on a regular basis, they were kind enough to let me charge their phone by their register so that I could be in contact for business matters. And they were very attentive to any of my cues that I may have needed anything from a new napkin to more caw-fee or if I was done with my food. They even have a little YELP sticker right on the door as you enter to let you know they are Yelper-approved, which made me giggle because well, I love my Yelp fam and I'm glad they approve. Check it out for the convenience, but if you're looking for something that is beyond regular diner grub, this is not the place for you. read more
