First off this is a diner so don't expect fancy food but with that being said, what we ordered was really good. I had a cheeseburger and could tell that the burger was hand made not prepackaged or frozen. The fries were big steak fries. The wings were huge. My husband had the steak salad and enjoyed that as well. He said that he had been there for breakfast before and it was really good. The wait staff were attentive and noticed right away when a glass needed refilled. It gave off a friendly vibe. We will go there again. read more

It's been a number of years since my last visit here, and I believe they switched owners since, or at the very least remodeled. I remember before they were cramped and overly decorated with knick nacks and country decor. This visit there was less "stuff", more room, and a more modern feel. We came for breakfast and it did not disappoint. I indulged in a sandwhich of sorts, but instead of bread featured "sticky bun pancakes" which really was what the name implies; a cut up sticky bun grilled like a pancake and drizzled with a sweet glaze. It was generously sized and the Mr and I basically rolled ourselves out of there after devouring our entire meals. While it was a little pricy at slightly over $30 for breakfast for two, coffee for one, and a courtesy water, I will be back to try those pancakes on their own. Four stars because service wasn't perfect and she messed up both of our orders a bit, but we were seated promptly, the wait for food was average, and we were greeted by the owner upon leaving. read more

It has been a number of years since I last patron this establishment. Mainly, the reason being that I'm not in this area often as I had been when I last ate here. This morning happened to be in the area and wanted a decent breakfast so I stopped by. The parking lot was nearly full upon my arrival but I managed to find a spot. Upon entry into the restaurant, the ambience was loud and almost every table was taken however I was fortunate enough to snag a booth. I was quickly approached by wait staff and they took my order. I ordered the silver spring omelette which had bacon, sausage, mushrooms, peppers, tomatoes, onions and cheese with rye bread and home fries extra crispy. My order took longer to arrive then I thought it would but given how busy it was this morning I can't complain. When my plate finally arrived I was pleased at the amount of home fries and the size of the Omelette that I received. Additionally, the rye bread was swirled and had great rye flavor. The Omelette was good however my only complaints lie with the fact that my home fries were not crispy and my toast was cold therefore leaving the butter unmelted on it. When I had been here previously several years ago I remember not liking the fact that your check would be placed on your table before being asked if there was anything else that you wanted to conclude your meal. It almost seemed as if you were being rushed out however I can say that I did not experience that today. I believe I saw in someone else's review that this place may be under new ownership so maybe that's how staff are being trained these days, which I appreciate. This was my second time visiting Silver Spring on a Sunday at lunch time. They don't take reservations nor do they take names when you arrive, so on Sunday after lunch you may wait in line for a table. There were maybe 10 people ahead of us, but the wait turned out to be only about 10 minutes. They have a large menu. They have quite a few senior selections & my Dad and Aunt ordered Ham Loaf & turkey dinner which they both enjoyed. Their sides selection is also large. They have Greek items on their menu as well. My brother & I had a spicy jalepeno burger & cheeseburger sub. Both sandwiches were quite large & came with fries. I think they have good baked desserts too, but we were stuffed after our meals. I'd definitely recommend stopping here with family, older folks (not as noisy as many restaurants) or kids. read more

I so wanted to return to Silver Springs and have a comforting meal but sadly, that didn't happen. Since Covid we rarely go out but we went here often before. Never a fancy restaurant but the food was consistent , simple and tasty. I will try to be factual because the last thing that I want to is harm a local business: The good- the restaurant has been updated which was sorely needed . It looked relaxed and inviting though we were surprised to find a large crack I. The new floor. The server was timely and very friendly though she never explained the special which may be because the seemed a little short staffed. The food was blamed and tasted canned- I had a roast beef dinner and there was no flavor in anything - so disappointed because that was never the case. I don't know what changes but good service can't make up for bad food. I hope they improve the food quality because I would love to go to a local business regularly. read more

I've probably driven by this place hundreds of times and never considered a stop, but then it came recommended. What a great little find! Stepping inside is like stepping into the past. I'm sure it hasn't changed since the day it opened. Our server provided exceptional service too. I forgot to take a photo, but hands down one of the best omelettes I've ever had at a diner. Almost every time the eggs are over cooked, browned and rubbery. This omelette was light and fluffy, perfectly cooked. Came here looking for a waffle. Sometimes I get hungry for something and just can't get it out of my head. Asked a few friends and they recommended this place. Walking in we were a little worried. Very long line so we took the counter seats. Within 5 min everyone in line was seated. Kinda missed it there since the counter was not as comfortable as most. Ordered my waffle and a side of eggs and corn beef. Wife ordered eggs and grits with cheese and sausage. Wow was that awesome! The grits that is. My waffle was just what I needed. I wish they would serve it with real butter and syrup. Kinda kills it to have to scoop butter out of little packs and single serve syrup. Just not the same as pouring it out. Flavors were great. At The Silver Spring Family Restaurant customers are greeted by the owners and staff as you walk in the door. They act as your hosts for dinner there. My husband and I stop here at least once a week and never are disappointed. Their menu is varied food, including Greek dishes. Spinach pie is on the menu, but the owners also offered other dishes such as Moussaka and Pastitsio recently. We were there two days in a row for those homemade tasty dishes. Side is a Greek salad and their salads are the best. Crisp and fresh tasting. The restaurant is immaculate and service is great. Breakfast is served all day. The tomato breakfast is my favorite. The tomatoes in this dish are the best and the same delicious tomatoes are also served as a side dish. We are very happy to have this friendly restaurant with great food back again! read more

A little out of the way but we wanted to support local business. Went there many years ago on a winter night when they had no heat. Everyone ate with their coats on! Hey, stuff happens! We know they recently remolded so we wanted go back. Went for early lunch. The waitress was very inattentive and we felt dismissed. She committed every no-no I can think of. Here are just a few; asked if we knew what we wanted before our butts hit the seat, brings water but never asked if we would like another drink, never asks about the food quality, blows by but never stops and never asks about dessert! This woman is not cut out to be a waitress. Now the food, mediocre at best. The steak fries were raw, greasy and suppose to be spicy but just so over salted. The fish was over fried so much that it tasted like fish jerky! My husbands ribs were boiled meat with cover up of sauce and then stuck under the broiler. With gas prices so high we will not be going out to Silver Spring because it's just not worth the trip! read more

I had read so many reviews about this family restaurant so we decided to try it. The outside of the restaurant is very inviting with plenty of parking space. The handicapped ramp into the restaurant itself was one of the best made ones I've seen. Nice smooth entry! We entered and there was a counter with stools, booths and tables. Very neat and clean! A few customers were there and everyone had masks. Kaycee was our server and could not have been friendlier or more efficient. There was an extensive menu with very reasonable prices. We ordered the Maryland crab soup which was hot and delicious. We also ordered the triple club sandwiches with fries. The plates were so filled with food we could only eat half and took the rest home. Kaycee refilled our iced teas and checked on us and other patrons often. How we wished this restaurant was located near our town. The bathrooms were immaculate and roomy enough for a wheelchair if needed. Even the diners there were kind and friendly! This is the worst restaurant ever. It was not clean and it was yucky. The food did not taste good and the French onion soup looked like something the dog pooped out. The burgers were bad and the fries were under cooked. To make it all worse the service was terrible. We were the only ones there and one one helped us. The "homemade" pumpkin pie was worse than that can be found at Arme. I wish I could give negative star reviews but so be it. read more

Nice atmosphere, is obviously a local favorite. We tried it for the first time a couple of weeks ago. We luckily got there at the right time, and only had a short wait to be seated on a busy Saturday morning (about 10 minutes). The wait can be quite a bit longer if you get there at other times. We were seated by a friendly hostess, and our server was excellent. She chatted and joked--but not in excess, and her timing and expertise was right-on. The food was good to not-so-hot. My husband ordered a cheese omelet with mushrooms and sausage, and said it was delicious. The home fries were tasty and crispy, as requested. On the other hand, I ordered the creamed chipped beef. I realize this can be a hit-or-miss breakfast item--but thought I'd take a chance here, since my craving for this had been building for some time, and I had a hunch it was likely to be good here. Wrong. It arrived on the chilly side, and nearly solidified.... WAY overly thickened. It was edible, but not much beyond that. I did not complain, but vowed not to EVER order this "delight" again. (I have since had it elsewhere, where it was delicious! Review pending :-) ) The weirdest thing here--and only unpleasantness--was the odd attitude that verged(?) on ill will that the main hostess demonstrated toward my husband. An older woman, attractively dressed; she seemed to be someone who had worked there for a while, as she greeted many of the regulars who entered. But, as we were being seated and walked by where she standing behind the counter near the register, she caught my husband's eye and GLARED at him--for what reason neither of us has a clue. Perhaps she had him confused with someone else? (We are not originally from this area, have never set foot in this restaurant before, nor encountered this woman anywhere.) Imagination? No. Our hunch was confirmed when she made the rounds in the area in which we were seated, refilling coffee from a pot to EVERY table in our vicinity--with the single, notable exception of OURS. . What gives? I don't know if she's always there--sure hope not!. At this point, I'm hesitant to return, and it's unlikely we will. read more

I've eaten here many times to know what to eat, but honestly, I do really only have one complaint about the place. Now, usually I order the fried chicken here because the batter they use for it is really sweet, but the problem is the size of it! Seriously, why is the chicken so small in the first place? And as well, the size of some of the other things, like the Corn Nuggets. I love corn nuggets, but they only give you 5! This time though, I got the Country Fried Steak, which was ok, but not the best I've had, I think that goes to Bob Evans. It usually a nice place to eat though, and the food comes relatively fast. I love this place! I don't think I've ever had a bad meal here and the service has always been great as well! Right now they have my absolute FAVORITE which are pumpkin cinnamon roll pancakes! It's that time of year! And they are AMAZING! Just the regular pumpkin pancakes are great or their year round cinnamon roll pancakes! I've been here mostly during lunch hours and have had both breakfast type items and my favorite, the hot open turkey sandwich with fries. Overall I find the food to be very good and really enjoy the turkey sandwich, despite the gelatinous gravy that seems typical of most diners today. It's acceptable, but would certainly be better if homemade and more flavorful. Service has usually been great and I've never had to wait more than a few minutes to be seated, but the décor and especially the carpet could use a good sprucing up...or a good deep cleaning as it looks dingy and could really stand to be replaced. One thing I've noticed that's not a complaint but I just find odd, is that they never seem to total your check when they bring it to your table??? I'm sure they've got calculators as I often see waitresses sitting by the register counting their tips...but not once have I ever received a bill with the total calculated. Oh, and they regularly have coupons in the local Merchandiser papers and you can also sign up for their email list and get a free meal on your birthday, and they send a regular newsletter with 10%-20% off coupons too. read more

I really like their breakfast menu a lot! However, the wait sometimes just isn't worth it to me. If there was more room to wait in it would be more worth it but, I just don't like standing around for 15-20 minutes crunched in a little waiting area with the other customers in the morning when I'm not awake and super hungry. I do love their French toast though yummm, my husband usually gets pancakes and scrapple and loves it! Lunch and Dinner are just as delicious. I love their open faced hot turkey sandwich, Shepard's pie and their Crabby Mac and Cheese special that they have once a week yumm ! My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this charming place on our way from Harrisburg to Lancaster. We love breakfast and are always looking for great places that have a friendly atmosphere, great food, and inexpensive prices. It's exactly what we found here. We were probably the youngest in the crowd, but that meant that our meal wasn't disturbed by crying children or yelling parents. I highly recommend this place for the amazing breakfast foods. The portions are great for an inexpensive price. I had french toast and sausage, and my boyfriend tried the pumpkin pancakes. Both choices were incredible. We're going back again to try the other breakfast options, but I have no doubt that satisfaction is guaranteed. read more
