Introduction: Representing 2018 in alphabet series, O is for On Orange. The letter O only has 5 of the 8 possible years represented in the alphabet series. Interestingly, 2 of them are in Lancaster County, PA. This was prior to my parents moving to Lancaster in 2021. In March 2018, my girlfriend of that time & I took a day trip to Lancaster. I lived in Montgomery County, Maryland (near DC) at the time, and we were meeting up with a friend who was living in New Jersey kind of in the middle. We agreed to meet at On Orange at 12 PM on that Sunday, March 25 since we were driving from far away, and I think they were doing a day trip too, but possible they stayed a night in town, not sure. Also, On Orange closes at 1 PM too, so even more reason to be punctual. My g/f of then was notoriously late & took a long time to get ready. She was taking too long to get ready, and I knew we needed to leave if we even had a chance of making it on time. After a while I said I don't want to do this, but I will leave without you & meet my friend (& his girlfriend). I started the car and texted you have 1 minute to come out, and if you aren't out, I'm leaving without you. My timer reached 0, and I slowly was driving off, but I saw her shuffling with her coat and what have you leaving, so I waited. We got in the car, and I rushed off. If that weren't bad enough, my g/f said we needed to stop at her bank to get cash. Of course, there was none right within route, but saw a location right off I-83 in northern MD, Hunt Valley, but we wasted more time to get off the freeway, for her to go to her ATM, & get back on the freeway when we were running significantly late. I said we are running significantly late as it is, so why are we wasting more time. She claimed in case there was something she wanted to buy in Lancaster, but that was not the primary purpose, but I'll get to that at the end. I was panicking on the significant late, and that the restaurant closes at 1, and I drove above 100 mph at times on I-70, which I think was the only time I've ever gone that fast on 70, and maybe only 4 times ever in my life reaching that speed. Experience with the Restaurant: This is street parking around here, which was free meters on Sunday. We got a decent parking spot a block away. We walked in at 12:50 PM, which was 50 minutes LATE and 10 minutes before On Orange's closing time of 1 PM. My friend & his girlfriend were already done eating. He said that they had their stomach set for eating at 12, and there was pressure to order since it's not a huge place and pretty busy. I was annoyed with my friend for not waiting for us, but I get it because let's be honest, my g/f fault on that one. Server was cordial, and my g/f & I quickly ordered. Food came out quickly. We ate quickly, and my friend & his g/f watching us eat. Food was delicious, and they were quick, but to be fair, they were closing in 10 minutes, so they were motivated to get out of there. I got a pancake & egg dish as I recall. This was a top notch brunch. In spite of the negative experience of being so late because of my g/f, the experience at the restaurant was excellent. Conclusion: After brunch, we looked around downtown, Amish Farm (see my 5-star review of them written in April 2018), etc. and was overall a nice day with the 3 of them albeit very cold. After we left, I took the back road from I-83 all the way back to Germantown, MD where she lived to see something different and to save a little gas too since it's pretty direct going that way. My g/f was complaining about it taking so long getting back. I knew she was meeting up with a friend that night. But what I later realized, she wanted to stop at an ATM that morning really because she needed cash to pay that friend for cannabis that night. So, she disrespected everyone's time for this. I guess on a positive at least she wasn't cheating on me with that guy and really was just for pot. In conclusion, I thought On Orange was top notch, and they were accommodating to our time schedules. read more

Stopped by on a Tuesday morning and had just the best experience. The owner created us and took us to the patio. It had a little bit of a magical feel for a Tuesday morning. It was a very intimate space. We ordered an Indian omelet and a peasant omelet. Both were delicious, had there not been more people on the patio we may have licked our plates. My friend and I really enjoyed our time at On Orange. The gentlemen who I believe might have been the owner or manager was really helpful with explaining the menu and letting us know about popular dishes. We ordered the Swedish pancakes which came with stewed apples. They were really unique and tasty. We also split the baked oatmeal which came with milk to pour on it. Our large group stopped in here before we were heading to the airport on a Sunday around 9am. They sat the 7 of us quickly and we loved the ambiance! Super cozy and homey. We ordered a variety of things on the menu and it was all delicious. We particularly loved the pancakes but be warned the stack of 3 Swedish oat pancakes could have fed all 7 of us easily!!! Unless you're the hungriest person alive, 1 pp is PLENTY. Eggs and omelette were cooked great, everything was well seasoned. Great seeded breads and the bacon and crisp and delicious. Me and my mom went into On Orange after a sad visit looking for a little bit of taste. It did not happen. My Swedish pancakes were raw in the middle and I had to put the entire of jug of syrup on top to even reach small taste. The oats in the pancakes were burnt and gave bitter taste. The food was so good! Had the peasant omelette with breakfast potatoes & roasted tomatoes. The coffee was great too! The owner took pictures of us at our table with his own professional camera. He was very welcoming & sociable. The ambiance was nice with local artwork displayed throughout. He says he plans on taking photos of regulars & handing them by whether they usually sit. Visited on Sunday 9/28/25: Eclectic restaurant with tasty food offerings! The waffles were light and fluffy and bacon was cooked perfectly. Ambience was light and fun. All around love this place! The servers are great, and the food is excellent. The restaurant itself makes you feel like you are in a little cottage having a nice breakfast. The day I went it was snowing, so it was nice to have a warm meal in a cozy place. The eggs, toast, potatoes, and bacon tasted fresh and wasn't greasy. I felt like I ate a good hearty, healthy breakfast after I left. The place was crazy busy, but people were moving in and out quickly so the wait wasn't that long. What a unique, cozy restaurant. My husband and I were warmly greeted, upon entering. Having never been to On Orange before, I was pleasantly surprised, when venturing downstairs to a Harry Potterish room, complete with nooks, fake fireplace, cave-like walls, warm lights. The menu is limited, but worth a try. I sampled some of this and that: Swedish pancake, roasted tomatoes and bacon. One pancake was plenty filling and large. It took up my entire plate. It honestly smelled as good as it looked. Dense, chewy, oatmealie - simply talking about it, makes me want one, right now. Now this This was Bacon - thickly sliced, perfectly cooked. Who's your butcher? Though I loved the tomatoes, roasted and garlicy; they weren't the perfect accompaniment to this meal, but the Bacon - definitely was. And ooh la la, two crisp, shortbread cookies at the end of the meal, arrived with our check. Loved it. read more

This place is consistently EXCELLENT. The food, the service, the friendly, cozy environment--all A+ . It's changed hands over the years but the high level of care in every aspect has stayed the same. I've been dining here for decades and it's still one of my favorite breakfast nooks in Lancaster. You won't be disappointed here. Outstanding brunch! Healthy selections along with some less than healthy options made everyone at the table very happy. I had the omelette special...chicken sausage, goat cheese and arugula. The side was a combination of potatoes and tomatoes with either whole-grain or white toast. I chose the whole-grain and it did not disappoint. Thick, hearty bread perfectly buttered. Others at the table had the steam plate - which varies based on what ingredients are available. Peasant omelettes with sides of bacon and white toast were enjoyed by others. Lots of opportunities for coffee refills since the service was terrific. Coffee was strong and hot. If I lived near this place I'd be a regular for sure. read more

We stopped here on a Sunday for a late breakfast - love that on orange is open until 1pm. There was a little bit of a wait for a table as the space is fairly small, but there is the option to sit at the breakfast bar (first come first serve). As soon as we were seated we were greeted by our waitress who gave us waters and some time to browse the menu. We ordered coffee, orange juice, the old standby (two eggs, bacon, potatoes and toast) and the on orange special (Canadian bacon egg and cheese on a roll). The breakfasts were on point! Came in for a Saturday brunch ~11am with my family. Was really hoping we'd like this spot, but left unimpressed, unfortunately. Atmosphere: There are a few floors and outdoor seating options. We waited for ~15 minutes for a table for 5, which wasn't bad considering it was 11am on a Saturday. Servers were very friendly. They also have art hanging around for purchase. Food: We ordered the peasant omelette, chilaquiles, the On Orange Special (breakfast sandwich) and the Dad's scramble (eggs, toast, potatoes). The best part was probably the breakfast sandwich - well toasted and flavorful. The remainder of the entrees all felt a bit bland. The chilaquiles did not have much flavor at all, and the omelette was very plain / eggs tasted a bit rubbery. On the whole, the portion sizes were generally large, but I felt like I could have made these breakfast options on my own, with better seasoning. Overall: 3/5 - Unfortunately will not come back. Generally quite affordable with large portion sizes, but felt sub-par for brunch. read more

We were visiting Lancaster and found this place when searching for breakfast spots in the area. It has a tiny sign outside and is a bit hard to find. We were seated down in the basement. It is a bit cramped and an employee opened the door to outside and turned on the AC - I was frozen! It was cold and rainy outside. Anyways, I had the breakfast special which was a corn and coconut soup with eggs. It was just different enough that I had to do it. It was okay, not something I would seek out again, needed more spicing up for my taste. I asked for the eggs on the side but they came on top. They have a pretty small menu so your choices are limited. My husband enjoyed his chilaquiles - he didn't share with me so I can't speak to how they were. I love trying places that are not chain restaurants, so give this place a try. The service is great and it seemed they take a great deal of pride in their offerings. read more

My husband and I came on a Saturday morning of a holiday weekend and waited about 15 minutes to be seated. The server told us about a sausage omelet special that day and so I ordered that. I wish the omelet had more sausage or even bigger chunks and the potatoes that came with it were softer on the inside and crispier on the outside....this dish was kind of a miss for me but it came with 7 grain oat bread from Central Market which was really good! Is it weird that that was my favorite part of my dish? What I really enjoyed from the meal were the Swedish pancakes! We shared three of them and they're made of oatmeal that was soaked in buttermilk overnight. They're really big and filling, so I even took one home so the family could try, haha! I'm normally a savory breakfast person and don't usually order pancakes, but I'd come back for these and we still had an enjoyable experience. read more

With out a doubt, one of the funkiest spots I've ever found! Absolutely in love with On Orange. Great food, great service, great coffee, and local art on the walls. My family tried a lot of different stuff, and it was all delicious. -I had the Indian Omelette; the relish was HOT, but good. -My wife had the special for the day, a chicken sausage, arugula, goat cheese omelette. -My daughter had the Florentine omelette. -My son had the Swedish pancakes. Cute, hipster bistro vibe. We were sat right away at a table by the window. Coffee is hot and has a pleasant chicory flavor. The country white toast has a sourdough flair, which was welcome. The house pancake batter is a little different, sorta custardy with an eggy French toast texture - we opted for the waffle style for added texture. Vegan sausage felt house made, with bold sage and black pepper flavor profile. The breakfast potatoes are large chopped, and cooked in the oven. All our food tasted clean and fresh, nothing fried or greasy. The food was a wee bit under seasoned, but we were happy to add salt at the table to make it how we like it. Fun, small town feel. This is my favorite breakfast place in Lancaster! The menu is small but everything is fantastic. I love the Swedish Oatmeal pancakes, which are a specialty. There are two sets of seating - one downstairs and one upstairs. If you get a chance to sit upstairs, you might be able to sit near the window and watch the Central Market crowd walk by. To start! They were wonderful about Laura's nut allergy. We felt very welcome and safe. Our waitress was incredibly informed and took good care of us. It is a very busy little place the morning we went and I feel lucky for when we arrived. By the time we left the line was out the door. Not sure if they do reservations but if you have a big party it may serve you well to call in advance. Now the food PSA! These are not normal pancakes and you don't want them to be! They are incredible. Each bite offers an apple, oatmeal, maple whirlwind. It is such a unique experience. Not your everyday pancake and that is a good thing! The peasant omelette was just as delicious. Perfectly cooked eggs wrapped around onion, cheese, tomatoes, and potatoes. All those fillings played so nicely together. This is a 10/10 type of place.
