This review was posted yesterday and taken down after a request from the business owner who offered…read moreme a $250 discount to do so. I have decided to skip the discount and post my review as I feel taking the discount is being paid to keep quiet and not complain. I would rather keep my integrity intact by being honest about my experience so others don't make my mistake. I hesitated to write this review as the person who did our repairs is a friend of the family (was). However, the prices quoted were exorbitant for what was done. All we requested was flappers to be replaced in two older toilets that were taking longer to fill when flushed. We also had a kitchen spray faucet that when shut off wouldn't stop spraying. Because it was under warranty, Moen had sent us a new one, but we needed it installed. Because my husband had recent surgery he couldn't get under the sink to attach and wasn't able to do the toilet repairs. As mentioned, we used a plumber we had used for years, however with a different company, and had no previous issues with service or prices. We were given three options. The first was to replace all three toilets in the home (even though we only needed two fixed). The quote for three installed toilets was over $4,000. To replace the spray faucet we were quoted over $600.00.....we already had the replacement spray attachment so we didn't need a new faucet, just the spray attachment connected. When I questioned it, we were told to soak the old one in vinegar and see if that helped stop the spraying. The other option for the toilets was to repair them and that was to put in a new valve, flapper and supply hose. To do the first one was $477, to do the second, even though identical, was $385.00. The last option was to pay the service fee and do nothing. I should have taken that option but it's hard to say no to a family friend. In retrospect this family friend had no problem in overcharging.....it's a business. The repairs took a half hour....45 minutes tops and our bill was $959.00 for the two toilets including tax and service dispatch. I don't understand why two identical repairs (supply and install fill valve, flapper and supply hose) are charged $477 for one and $385 for the other. This company was on our agenda to contact for a new furnace and water heater this summer but no longer. I also no longer feel comfortable dealing with this company after today's exchange with the owner. He continued to repeat was that we are paying for trained and qualified staff. When I asked him to give a breakdown on the hourly rate and cost of supplies, he told me that they don't do that. That means there is no transparency. As the conversation continued, he became fairly nasty and belligerent and questioned MY integrity in posting the review. I have done many reviews on companies before and this is the first one star and bad review I have ever given. They say "buyer beware" for a reason. In the meantime, we still have a faucet where we can't use the spray part, but that's better than spending $600 to attach it. I've learned my lesson the hard way and had a sleepless night trying to decide whether to accept any kind of discount and keep quiet or tell it like it is. Even with a $250 discount a $700 bill for parts and labour is over the top for supplying and replacing a valve line, flapper and supply hose for two toilets. While I thought about whether or not to accept the discount, I contacted three other 5 star plumbing companies and asked if they could give me a ballpark quote for the exact same service we had received and copied what had been done from our invoice. I heard back from two of them quite quickly. One gave me a ballpark of $400-450 including a service fee for coming out. The other quoted me $562.50 (breaking down parts and labour), including the service fee. These were more in line with what I had expected yesterday and I wish I had contacted them first. I cannot in good conscience recommend this company. There were a few other issues that happened that I have not mentioned at this point, but have run out of room :-(

We experienced significant issues with defective piping and ultimately decided to have Graham and…read morehis team replace all of the plumbing in our home. We intentionally chose Urban Piping despite their quote being approximately $10,000 higher than another comparable option, as we did not want to cut corners and were led to believe we were paying for higher quality and professionalism. During the planning stage, Graham walked us through the process and made several assurances, including that entire walls would be repainted whenever possible. In practice, this did not occur on any wall in our home. He also stated that Urban Piping maintained quality by having drywall and painters on staff. This was not true. Instead, Prime Painting from Edmonton was subcontracted, staying in a hotel while working on our home. On multiple occasions, they complained that they were not being paid enough whenever we raised concerns about the quality of their work. After Urban Piping completed the plumbing, they had to return multiple times to correct serious errors. These included supporting previously unsupported piping on our water softener so the door could open, correcting a humidifier line that had been plumbed incorrectly, switching reversed hot and cold-water lines on a tap, and cutting into our newly finished ceiling to fix reverse osmosis lines that had been installed incorrectly and were effectively plumbed in a closed loop doing nothing. They also moved our brand-new refrigerator (which was on wheels) without lifting the leveling legs, resulting in damaged hardwood flooring and a broken fridge leg. While the plumbing issues were eventually corrected, the damaged fridge leg was never replaced. The drywall and painting work was the worst we have ever seen. The surfaces were not sanded, the paint color did not match, and the sheen was incorrect. The work appeared to consist of rough troweling followed by immediate painting. One closet looked as though it had been painted in a matter of minutes using a fence brush. We ultimately spent approximately $1,000 sanding and repainting nearly all of the affected areas upstairs, including repainting entire walls. Our contract included applying knockdown texture to the entire basement ceiling to avoid visible patchwork. Instead, fixtures were not removed, surfaces were not leveled, and large sections of drywall compound were applied with minimal sanding. In some areas, there were height differences of approximately 1/2 inch over a 12-inch span, with compound exceeding 1/4 inch in thickness. The contractor we hired to fix the ceiling described it as "one of the worst jobs they had ever seen." It cost us nearly $6,000 and 10 days of work to scrape the entire ceiling, remove sections of drywall, re-board areas, and reapply knockdown texture properly. Additionally, painter's tape was left on the walls for weeks, resulting in paint being pulled off when removed. Rather than addressing this correctly, the painters attempted to simply paint over the damaged areas. Ultimately, we asked Urban Piping to leave the project because Prime Painting continued to worsen the condition of our home with each return visit. Urban Piping reduced the invoice by $1,900, leaving us out approximately $5,000 in additional repair costs. This was followed by a two-month effort to obtain a required letter for insurance purposes. Despite repeated texts, emails, and phone calls, responses were delayed or nonexistent. We were incorrectly told we had not paid in full; once this error was finally acknowledged, payment was confirmed and the letter was eventually issued. This experience went about as poorly as it could have. Based on the positive reviews, we expected professionalism and quality. Instead, we encountered repeated mistakes, poor workmanship, and significant additional costs. Save yourself the expense and frustration and choose another company.

The representative arrived and advised he had to do an inspection of the gas line to determine what needed to be done and ensure that it was in good condition and that there would be a charge for the inspection. He spent about 15 minutes inspecting and advised that he would have to make a number of holes in the dry wall ceiling below the fireplace to find where the gas line could be capped off. I advised him and showed him a hole that I had cut in the floor as I was replacing the floor and that the gas line could be capped off within a few feet of the fireplace. You could see the direction that the gas line was running through the hole. He also advised that their service trucks were well stocked with all the materials that would be required to cap off the gas line. He then called the technician who was to do the work and advised him of what had to be done. In addition he made a number of calls to his other customers and spent approximately 1 hour at my place mostly spent on making calls to other customers. The technician arrived to start doing the work around 8:00 PM. I had already cut the hole in the floor to fully expose the connection that had to be capped and it would only require the disconnection of the gas line to the fireplace and put a simple cap on it. He shut off the gas line and went to his truck to get the cap. He was there for almost half an hour searching for the cap but didn't have one so he fashioned something together using about 4 fittings to cap off the line. I went down stairs while he started on the work of disconnect the gas line from the main line. I heard him struggling for about 15 minutes to try to disconnect the gas line from the main line so I went upstairs to see what the problem was. I observed that he was tightening the fitting instead of turning it the right way to loosen it. I explained to him that he had to turn it the opposite way to loosen it which he did successfully. I would think that disconnecting the small gas line and capping it could easily have been done within about half an hour at the most by a competent gas fitter. He finally finished capping the line off and advised that it was company policy that he now had to re-inspect the work which would be an additional charge for his inspection. I asked him what he was going to inspect and he couldn't explain what he was inspecting for. He then went to his truck and phoned his office I presume to get direction on how to handle this inspection. He came back and advised me that I did not have to pay for an additional inspection. The total charge for this fiasco was $488.23 which would have been over $100.00 more if they had not cancelled the charge for the second inspection. It is my opinion that the incompetence of the company and the cost of disconnecting a fully exposed gas line and capping it off which could have been done with 1 cap with easy access is excessive. This is taking advantage of senior citizens. The owner of the company did not return my call although they did offer to give me $50 back which I refused. If there was a rating of less than 1 I would have certainly given it to this company.

The technician came, took photos, placed advertising magnets on my equipment, and did some very light cleaning around the furnace area. No repair was completed and my issue was not resolved. I was then charged close to $500, which was a huge surprise. I was told the visit would be about two hours, but the time was extended to around 2.5 hours due to the technician saying he was waiting on pricing - something I had no control over. In my opinion, the work performed did not match the price charged, especially since the original diagnostic fee was clearly communicated as $69 and no fix was provided. Based on my experience, I would strongly recommend getting all pricing clearly confirmed in writing before booking.

Fast forward to November 2021, and as anticipated, too much damage had been done. We needed a new one. Throughout the process, I consulted Matt. Even though we did not have a solid plan of how to proceed, he was always available to support and even to come by and take a look. It made our decision to go with The Heating Ninja for a furnace replacement a no-brainer.
