9JUN26 Our first visit to the New Amsterdam Theatre to see Aladdin was fantastic. When we arrived, we went straight to the box office to pick up our tickets and then joined the line on the side. Security and ticket scanning were quick and efficient, so the line moved steadily. The doors opened around 6 p.m. All the staff were in uniform black pants, white shirt, gray vest, black bow tie and everyone wore a name tag. They were very organized and greeted us genuinely as we arrived. Extremely courteous, helpful, and always willing to assist. We sat in the mezzanine, which for me is the ideal spot. The seats were comfortable with a decent amount of legroom, especially for a historic theatre. From there, you can really appreciate the theatre's décor, colors, and historic charm, all very well preserved. The restrooms were clean, and there was a bar offering liquor, wine, beer, and non‑alcoholic drinks, along with a shop selling merchandise related to the show. The stage design was impressive, with areas that allowed the actors to appear and disappear almost instantly. The set changes were fluid and perfectly suited to the theatrical style of the production. The sound was clear from the mezzanine, and the lighting effects especially during the Cave of Wonders scene were stunning. With more than 20 performers on stage, the show was dynamic, humorous, and full of energy. The Genie absolutely stole the show with charisma and comedic timing. While the production includes some differences from the movie, it maintains a fast pace that keeps you fully engaged. The show ran a little over two hours with a 15‑minute intermission. It's also a great experience for families; the children around us were completely captivated from start to finish. If you're visiting NYC and want a magical Broadway experience, this production is worth it. We definitely plan to return for another show in the future. read more

Incredible show, very impressed with the sound and lighting (which I suppose are the key elements that belong in the review of the theatre itself). Writing an update 6 years later, once again after seeing Aladdin but this time with much better seats. No plans on a rainy weekend ahead led to surprise tickets to what was truly one of my favorite broadway shows. Just like before, I am blown away by how beautiful this theater is! Take a second to just gawk at the wood carved flowers, branches, and figures that have been here for well over 100 years. It's insane and it's stunning and I love that this is where we get to watch incredible shows like Aladdin. My "partial view" seats that I won in the lottery 6 years ago were surprisingly wonderful, but these orchestra seats were undeniably incredible. They were, of course, much more money, but being able to take in the show from their up close view was amazing. We snuck away at intermission to buy overpriced wine and very expensive snacks like the rest of the theater goers, and had an amazing time. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. read more

I watched Aladdin here recently and sat in the box seats (a first for me). The theater looks pretty big, and there are elevators for those who can't do the stairs. There is a small room to get drinks, snacks, and merch. The box seat was a pretty cool arrangement since the angle allows me to look down onto the stage and see how all the stage mechanics work. I can even see the band that's hidden under the stage doing all the music accompaniments! Aladdin was a great show and had some really cool props, like the magic carpet. I wish they used the magic carpet more than twice. read more

Watching Disney's "Aladdin" on Broadway at the New Amsterdam Theater in New York City, New York... seemed like a dream... My friend, Marlina, booked our seats for a Sunday matinee and arranged for her brother, David, to give us a backstage tour, since he works for Disney on this production! Wow! I had Seat BB 109 in the Mezzanine Level. It had the perfect view of the entire stage! The sound was clear and wonderful! The story was appropriate for the Scouts who attended with their families on Scout Day! The line for the restroom wasn't bad for a Theater that opened in 1903. The attendant helped us to find an empty stall and move everyone along! This was an amazing experience! I'm so glad that my friend knew where to park and that her brother walked us to the car after the show and dinner. Thanks to David for the backstage tour! Seeing the costumes, props, sewing room, Orchestra pit, changing rooms, etc. made me appreciate (more) all of the work and people involved in this production! read more

I was in New York and watching a Broadway show was on my bucket list of things to do. I saw that Aladdin was playing and wanted to see it. The theater itself is small and quaint in my opinion. There crowd was pretty large. When you walk in there was people greeting you and scanning your tickets. We went to the souvenir desk to claim my keychain and ornament that was an add on to my ticket. I also bought the fridge magnet, genie bear, and bag. We went to find out seats and were escorted by staff where are seats were. The playbook had a bunch of things inside. We were given warning that there was no recording allowed. The show itself was amazing! I loved everything about it. I was sad that Raja nor Abu made an appearance. The genie was my favorite character and stole the whole show. My friend who does not like musicals loved the show. My husband is still going on about it to this day. The choreography was great, the set traditions were awesome! The whole thing just blew us away. I would definitely recommend to anyone. I am glad I was able to see the show. This is a review of the theater and the current production of "Aladdin" on Broadway. Aladdin was a brilliant show. My only complaint was that my rush seats were obstructed by the railing that was next to me. Additionally, my balcony seats were very high up and were steep. Aside from that, the music and plot of this show were fantastic. Iago's actor was hilarious and Aladdin's troupe was a great addition to the story line. New songs including high adventure and these palace walls were also wonderful additions to this show. read more

This is one of the oldest theaters on Broadway and it is incredibly beautiful. The workmanship of design on the walls is just classic. It's old. You do see that but it's all part of the charm. Combine that with a Disney classic and it's a solid winner. The music and dancing in this musical is top notch. It isn't the best of the Disney's and wouldn't be my first choice over Lion King but that isn't because this isn't spectacular. It's just Lion King is THAT amazing. So if you have seen that but not this, go see this! read more

This is an earlier built theatre, and shows signs of it. My first impression is the staff is friendly and well organized. Walking through initial security to ticket scan was a breeze. There were plenty of staff to walk you to your seat. The theatre itself is attractive and inviting, with just the right lighting. The seats, however, shows its age. When I put my seat down it slowly creaked, giving off a vibe of opening a door to a haunted room. And once I put my seat down, it stayed down. Every time I had to stand up for fellow patrons I had to manually raise it up with me. Legroom wise while I did have some space between my knees and the seat in front of me, crossing my legs was difficult without bumping. One reason I always choose end seats. I'm 5'8". If you're taller and placed middle of the row, good luck. The actors and show itself, Aladdin, was spectacular. read more

The only complaint that I have is that they were seating people extremely late, up to 37 minutes after the show had already began. This was really disruptive to the experience. They also were constantly patrolling the aisles with flashlights to catch people who were taking videos. I understand the importance of this but thought they could make an announcement that no video was permitted, and again, it was quite distracting throughout the show. I went in as someone who genuinely loves the 1992 original, and I left disappointed. This production takes from the source only what was convenient to stage and reshapes it into something safer, smaller, and more corporate -- the result feels thin. The cast is not the problem. The performers work hard and clearly care. The issue is the direction. Whoever staged this translated it into something manageable and marketable, not something that takes your breath away. For a Disney flagship production in 2026, the staging is surprisingly low on spectacle. Key problems: Abu is gone -- replaced with a trio of human sidekicks that add nothing and dilute Aladdin's character. The magic carpet is underused -- introduced with no setup and barely present. The final battle with Jafar is cut entirely. This is the climax of the whole story, and the creative team simply removed it. Not a staging limitation -- a failure of imagination. Credit where it's due: the carpet sequence is charming, and the actors deliver. But "charming" is not what Aladdin is supposed to be. At its best, Aladdin is wonder, chaos, heart, and scale. This version delivers a polished, slightly hollow version of that. Honest rating: 5 out of 10. Casual viewers will have a fine evening. Fans of the original who care about craft will feel exactly what's missing. read more

Not really into the broadway or musical scene, but needed a couple hours to do something inside and get out of the rain. Expensive seat for the view, but overall not a bad experience seeing Aladin. The geanie was a little too over the top, and drew attention away from the cast to him. The character is supposed to be over the top but I think he went too far with it. Staff was great. read more

We watched Aladdin at the New Amsterdam Theatre last night. It was a bit of madness getting there as we had to walk though the masses of people in Times Square to get there (give yourself extra time if your route includes Times Square!). However, once we were at the door, it was very quick to get in with the tickets that were in my Apple Wallet. The theater is gorgeous - its my favorite of all the ones I've been to in the states. It's not huge, but big enough to have a wow factor. We were on the first balcony in the first row with a great view. The seats are tight - there is little clearance from knees to the end of the balcony (or those behind us knees to seat in front of you). There was a set of bathrooms on the same floor, concessions, and some souvenirs that you can buy. Once it was time to exit, the flow of people moved decently fast consider that everyone was leaving at once. read more

Our little girl has been learning all of the great childrens tales and was stuck on Aladdin for quite some time so we decided to take her to see the broadway hit. The theatre is very clean and well lit with so much of that old world charm from a bygone era that it begs you to relax and enjoy yourself. All of the staff was extremely friendly and helpful and made you feel you were glad you were here. Accoustics in the venue made you feel as if you were right on stage with the characters and save the two percussionists in winged balcony spots, the entire orchestra was under the stage which gave the music a warmer sound. This is where I started my broadway journey as a child so naturally I had to introduce my child. The theatre is a little smaller than I remember but still the same beautiful character and history. I'm surprised there aren't any upgrades especially the restrooms. There is still only two restrooms for those with disabilities on the main level which is terrible when there is a packed auditorium because intermission is short. "Genie" made the performance of Aladdin in my opinion. A lot of shoving and pushing by the guest when the performance is over so your personal space will definitely be breached. All in all a decent experience and another wonderful display of theatrical art. read more

Aladdin was such a fun show to watch!! My friend and I wanted to see a Broadway show while visiting NYC, and this was a great option! We actually got our tickets 30mins before the show from TKTS in Time Square for almost half off!! I Highly recommend getting tickets from them if you're not in a big party. They sell discounted tickets the day of, and we found this super helpful! The theatre itself for the show was absolutely beautiful! It made me feel like I was going back in time as the architecture was elegant and stunning. The venue isn't extremely big so you will still be able to enjoy the show from just about anywhere! I appreciated how they also had bathrooms and concessions on our floor. The seats themselves are decently comfortable, but be prepared for smaller legroom. You'll also have to stand up to let people pass so keep in mind when choosing seats! The show itself was good but definitely an older Broadway show with older props and features. Aladdin was fantastic! This was the first Broadway show I've been to and ya know, when in New York, why not? Throughout my trip to New York, I've been booking a few of my tickets through a third-party website and they have miserably been causing transaction errors to the point where some of my tickets were actually not found. The same thing happened here with Aladdin, however, the ticketing will-call folks were able to help me. Despite having a long line, they still took their time to search for my tickets in their system, and voila, my tickets were found! The seats were comfortable and despite being near the back, we still had a great view of the show. The production was spectacular! The iconic events from the movie such as the first magic carpet ride were definitely amazing. The actors were phenomenal. I'd love to see another Broadway show when I come back! read more

I had never been to this theatre, have to say it was a whole new world for me....pun intended! Purchased broadway tickets and came on a date with my hubby. This was by far one of those nights and shows you just never forget. It was my very first broadway show and I have to say I fell in love with the performance. The show was 10 stars, Aladdin was out of this world. The theatre is amazing, it was definitely packed but not overly packed. What an iconic location that has held so many shows right here. You literally walk into a piece of history and get to enjoy a live broadway show like no other. Could the theatre look better? Could the seats be bigger? Could there be more space? Could drinks not be so ridiculously overpriced? Absolutely. Am I here for the performance? I surely am. So yes, perhaps the theatre could be better but come on, you're at a legendary theatre with incredible performances that outweigh everything else. New Amsterdam Theatre is the oldest operating theater on Broadway NYC Times Square. It opened its door in 1903. Currently, it is the home to Broadway show: Disney Aladdin. I got a chance to walk around the theater while waiting for the Aladdin show to start. The theater is in very good condition. The details of the inside was beautiful. Bathrooms are located in the basement. The theater itself is beautiful and I do recommend watching a show here. In terms of how comfy the seats are. The seats are the same compared to all theaters seats I have been to. But this theater is definitely a piece of history. read more

There is no magic at all. The decor on the stage is good, the disappearance of Genie from the stage can be more magical, more fog. Think outside of the box. What about outside of the stage, in the theatre, around the stage frame, there is no decorations, nothing about Disney or colors. It looked like a school performance with a better stage and phenomenal costumes. I pointed about many things at Moulin Rouge theatre, but over there, when you enter you are going into a different world. Red all over, design, decoration all in one package. At Aladdin, theatre and performance. Oh, i must say, flying carpet is pretty cool. Also, at mezzanine level, aisle 1, there is a line of loose chairs! lined up as seating behind the regular seats. I understand that they want to sell extra seats, but in case of emergency, it is very dangerous when you want to leave the theater. I'm a huge musicals fan and have always watched them back home in LA (Pantages Theatre). My favorite was Aladdin and it was definitely a bucket list of mine to see the Aladdin production on Broadway thinking it might be better and I could experience that magic again. So, I came here to watch Aladdin on a Friday night in Orchestra and left center. I was thoroughly disappointed and wished I had seen Reddit threads before coming. The audience grossly neglected theater etiquette. There was a toddler crying for almost the entirety of the first act. The two gentlemen in front of us kept moving their heads and it certainly didn't help that there were very, very tall. Two other audience members kept making very audible noises with their candy wrappers. The lady next to me decided to sing-along, and very off-key, to 'A Whole New World'. I even glanced at her to stop. She did, thankfully, but tried to sing again. If you want to sing along, sing at home. Folks are paying to hear professionals sing on stage and not to karaoke. The staff was friendly, the theatre was gorgeous, and the production was...alright? The acoustics weren't as prominent as those in LA. I could barely hear the brass section of the band and I was already in Orchestra. I wonder if it's a Disney tourist stop.... Luckily I'm in NYC for a while, but my friend is only on vacation and came all the way to see Broadway only to experience rude audience behavior. We could do TodayTix or lottery but our group may not get the tickets nor would we all be able to sit together so we paid full price. Regardless, even if we did get TodayTix discounted tickets, it's expected to have audience members know proper theatre etiquette! I could get better watching experiences by just going to a regular movie theatre. read more
