Ordered the General Tsos and asked for pork fried rice. The rice was a big portion and tasted awesome. Almost as good as the pork fried rice at J East's in Manhattan. The quality of the chicken was good. Not great. A little on the overbreaded side. Not spicy at all. I would probably try something else next time. Not a bad option though. I have actually sat and had food here twice and each time vowed to never spend my money here again (aside from my Pink Hawaiian of course) These won't be the BEST drinks ever either but you get to walk down the street sipping from your naughty styrofoam cup, getting pretty buzzed on your walk home or around the neighborhood, hell even pre gaming before festivities as I have done all of the above. $20 later and I'm a happy layydddaaayyyyyy!! read more

I had Apollo on Grand street a week ago before today and they get 5 stars for delicious fresh food. The one on Myrtle Ave is a disgrace!!! The rice was hard and black! The plantains were hard you couldn't even chew them. The Pork Mofongo was disgusting!!! The steak chewy! My favorite New` York City dining establishment of all time! I have a love affair with this place dating back to when they were located in the Lower East Side and I was 16 years old. Food is incredible with the best pork fried rice I have ever tasted in my life! I love this place! I love the staff! They are very accommodating every time I go to eat there. I go there with different members of my inner circle at least once a week during the week. The food is great and I recommend the beef steak (number 11) as I have been eating it almost exclusively for over fifteen years as a patron of Apollos. The drinks are a tremendous value as they are delicious and quite potent. The iced tea is legendary! My go to chino spot in NYC. Love their ICED-T. Boneless crackling chicken and shrimp fried rice is my usual. Their shrimp mofongo is amazing. The waiters are not the friendliest but it's not that kind of restaurant. They get the job done. They have been around for years and with very good reasoning. They used to do bomb take out drinks but I haven't had a drink in a while. They accept card but prefer cash of course. Tip in cash they'll tell you. Don't know what happened to this place, is it that they only concentrate on the bulk of their customers that go in for their alcohol concoctions or that they just don't care about their dining customers. It may be also that they have changed their chef in the kitchen, but the food is definitely not the same as the Apollo of old, my wife and I went in for our usual, she likes the shrimp in devils sauce and I get the Chicharon de pollo with house fried rice. Everything looked fine until we took our first bite, her shrimp in devil sauce was bland and everything on my plate seemed as it was doused in salt. as if my high blood pressure needed any more help killing me.
