Very friendly staff. Unique Group of quality people, which you don't usually see as the post office.

But what if, instead of those pleas echoing from the vocal chords of an island castaway, they were delivered matter-of-factly from one of the many soon-to-be-satisfied patrons of the U.S. Post Office located at 10901 Rhode Island Ave. in Beltsville, Maryland? First, we would lose all manner of suspense in the lyrics credited to Sting; and, second, the narrator's devastating visual discovery of "a hundred billion bottles washed up on the shore," signifying that he's "not alone in being alone," would never have happened, because the bottle, carefully sent via USPS, would have reached its intended destination within the relayed projected time.

I spoke with a staff member who was Asian, I'm sorry I didn't get his name but he was so helpful in answering my questions and explaining the process. I was impressed and appreciative. I went back today with my documents and a young lady named Shawnte assisted me. OMG, she was so pleasant and helpful, she patiently took care of my documents and gave clear instructions, at the same time assisted other customers just as efficiently and friendly as she did me. It is refreshing to receive this type of service AGAIN! I have gone to several USPS locations in Rockville, Bethesda, Kensington, College Park and now Beltsville. I have to say the service and tone of this Beltsville location is superior than the others. I say it's refreshing because in today's world the type of service we receive is horrible. It's absolutely horrible to call any business for assistance and receive appropriate service. We're lucky to get a person on the phone and one who can actually resolve the issue. Thank You Beltsville USPS!! You're doing something right !!

The Lanham office…read moreSAYS it tried to deliver on March 22 but I was home all day and NO ONE knocked or rang the bell. They also did not leave a note. Then they claimed that they attempted delivery on Sunday March 23. I was at a scheduled MRI and had been told BY THE DMV that the earliest attempted delivery would be Monday, March 24 so I thought I could attend my MRI without missing a delivery. However, if I had been told that they would be here Sunday, I could have rescheduled the MRI despite being in intense pain. Yesterday, Monday, again -no delivery. Today I went to the website but it was a horrible experience. Their system asked for the tracking number but I was cut off after in putting only half the numbers on my phone keypad. I tried several times and I KNOW I had the correct number. Later, I went to my porch and found mail, including a notice that the Lanham carrier could not deliver and "were sorry they missed me." They did NOT miss me. I have been near the front door all day. The carrier made NO attempt to see if anyone was home - did not knock or ring the bell - just left the stupid note. I requested an investigation via the main post office about HOW to get my package but that was before the carrier put delivery notice put in my mail box. What is wrong with the Lanham Post Office that the carrier will not due her damn job and knock or ring the bell so an old lady can get her important MVA document???? How much effort does it take to ring a bell or knock on the damn door????

An older woman with straight brown hair and glasses wasted my…read moretime by instructing me to leave and return with my package after assuring me she would print my shipping label. When I returned 25 minutes later exactly as instructed, she abruptly claimed she was unable to ship the package and responded with an unnecessarily rude, dismissive attitude instead of taking accountability for the misinformation she gave me. The lack of communication and unnecessary attitude completely changed what had otherwise been a positive experience. Customer service should not make people feel like an inconvenience for following the exact instructions they were given.

I've had less than friendly encounters there before, but today took the cake. I walked into a dark room 15 minutes after they opened. I stood there for a few minutes while a woman was on her phone talking to her friend, dropping f-words like commas. An alarm went off, she walked by me, completely ignored me, shut it off, and slammed a door. Finally she took a break to tell me they were closed. I asked "Didn't you open at 11?" She snapped, "Yeah, well, I got here late." They're only open 5 hours a day. If you can't put on a fake customer service smile for 5 hours in a mostly empty location, maybe you're not ready for a job in customer service.

The one place I really hate to go is the post office. If I have my mail delivered to my apartment I…read morereally do not want to go to the post office unless it is a dire emergency. That's how I ended up here. My work decided that they were going to send me my first paycheck via snail mail instead of direct depositing it. Odd. I go to my mailbox and there is no paycheck, instead there was a slip left stating that they "attempted" to deliver it to me. OK, how did you go about this? See, I work from home a few days a week, especially on Fridays when, say, a paycheck would arrive. My work area is not far from my door and not a single knock occurred the whole eight hours I was working from home. Who did you attempt to deliver this to? Were you in the right building, right floor, right door? I get my slip and now have to figure out where the post office even is. Pull in here and it's one of those older non-descript buildings that look more like an old storage building than a post office. Parking is wonky. Inside is very dimly lit, almost feels like you are in an abandoned building. Despite all this, the employees were actually helpful and pleasant for me. Walked up to the counter, handed over my signed slip and finally had my paycheck in hand. Walking out of here I feel as if you were being welcomed back out into the land of the living.

First, there are only maybe 5 parking spots and if it's full, there isn't really street parking right in front so you have to drive around. But usually I just give up and leave if that happens. If you are lucky to grab a spot, you walk in and it's dark like a cave. There's no self service kiosks so you have to wait in line. The layout is awkward and narrow so sometimes you have to squeeze in front of the people waiting in line in order to get the forms or materials you need, while fellow customers give you dirty looks because they think you're cutting. Other times there's been no line but then no one at the window which is also weird. Then the workers just bark at you as if you're bothering them.
