Do NOT come here if you want fast sushi service! Sushi is good but SLOOOW!! We came at 6 o'clock on a Friday night. Place was fairly busy. Every other party ordered fried food and was served before us and left after us. We've been sitting here for an HOUR and 40 MINUTES and ordered eight rolls and each roll has come out singularly by itself. Two people still haven't eaten yet!!! ONE HOUR 40 MINUTES!!!! Each person had to eat alone and we couldn't eat together as a family. One roll every 20 minutes. Very understaffed for a sushi restaurant. Everything. Not sure what happened here. It used to be their food was fresh, good, and plentiful. It was always our fav Chinese restaurant to go to. Last night we went looking forward to it, and it was terrible. We got a pu pu platter. Chicken wings were so dry they weren't edible. The crab ragoon literally has less than 1/4 cream cheese in the casing and was greasy. The shrimp and chicken fingers shrunk by 3/4 the normal size. The pork fried rice had old dried out rice, a couple of pieces of pork fat, no egg, hardly any peas. The chicken stick was also too dried out to eat. Not sure if they got a new cook? If so, fire them immediately. My guess is they got greedy and cheated out on quality. We won't be back. Way to kill your own business. read more

Absolutely livid! Placed our order with the New Chief Wok in Salem NH on Sunday for a 6:15pm pickup. Two hours later STILL no food. We've lost our entire night waiting and I'm done. Now we have no dinner and everywhere else is either closed or it's way too late to order anything. Called the bank and disputed the charge. I have been getting food from them for decades and the previous owner, Sherry, who was about as wonderful as they come would NEVER have let this happen. If you can't cover the orders you are taking DON'T take them. Shut it off once you have reached capacity. Never going back. read more

They were closed for a while during COVID but recently reopened. VERY happy about that. I hate to review / give feedback during a pandemic however they did a great job. Stopped by for dinner with family on a Sunday night. Almost walked out after 10 minutes of sitting at the table and being ignored. Eventually got to order food from a very cranky server. Should have walked out. My dinner was forgotten which is probably for the best because the rest of the food that came out was terrible, greasy and bitter. Sushi tasted stale. I grew up on the north shore of Boston and my baseline is the old Kowloon so I do have high standards. Kowloon is not so great the last few years and this restaurant is probably similar. This used to be the "Go to" spot for Chinese in the area and we ate there for several years. I've been a few times since Sherry sold to the new owners and the food is not the same by any standards. Beef teriyaki had good flavor, but was very tough (and was $11.50 for 5 pieces). The last time time we ordered from there, the food was good, but nothing outstanding. We just had dinner here tonight. We were seated at a booth in the very casual and clean dining room across from the buffet area (Lunch Buffet offered 6 days a week). There's also a cocktail lounge with big TVs in the back. Free WiFi offered to customers. The waiter brought out complementary tea and water and we started out with a flaming PuPu Platter ($14.95), 2 of each: egg rolls, chicken wings, golden chicken fingers, BBQ spareribs, beef teriyakis, chicken teriyakis, crab rangoons, & spring rolls, came out very hot. The food was pretty tasty,. but very greasy, especially the egg rolls with oil insde. For dinner, we had Pan Fried Noodles ($11.95) and the Sizzling Seafood Platter ($13.95) and ordered a large white rice (add $2). The Pan Fried Noodles was decent and had shrimp, chicken, beef, & vegetables with a brown sauce over firm lomein noodles (we're used to having the thin noodles for this dish). The Sizzling Seafood Platter was okay and a bit on bland side and had lots of vegetables (broccoli, baby corn, snow peas) with a modest amount of shrimp, sliced scallops, and imitation crabmeat. The service was decent with a timely delivery of food to our table. However, we could've used some clean plates for our main courses, so we ended up eating off of the same small plates (filled with eaten chicken/rib bones) from the PuPu. The server didn't come over to check on our table unless he was bringing food out. When we had our fill, the server promptly came over to clean off the table and box up the extra food. We were given fortune cookies and pinapple cubes with the check. The check came out to $34.40 before tip, after we used an Entertainment coupon, which took $11.95 (Pan Fried Noodles) off the check. And none of the food was edible for those that ordered it specifically "gluten free". It was an option on their menu and they CANNOT produce it that way!!!! I would highly recommend trying this place, I think it's one of the best Chinese food places around. I have been here 5 times, and every time I've ordered take out. In the past I've always gotten the same things afraid of trying something new, here I have tried different things....and everything has been so Good. The menu has a lot of choices, and best of all they have lunches but also have dinners! The best of all worlds here. The place is always clean, and the people have been very pleasant. Amazing! It is so difficult to find a Chinese restaurant that not only has great pricing, but GREAT food to accompany the prices! Excellent! I had the General Tso Chicken, with white rice, and an egg roll. I also tried their won ton soup. Every bite was delicious! Not a single complain. All high quality ingredients and fresh. I love this place, though I've only ordered a full dinner once (for takeout). Everything, from crab rangoon to sesame chicken to vegetable lo mein, was cooked to perfection and pretty reasonably priced. There are cheaper places, but Chief Wok is worth heading up NH Route 28 for. But where this place truly succeeds is in the tiny but festive lounge carved out of the main restaurant. Tasty but formidable drinks are the norm, served by excellent, no-BS tenders (Dodie and the owner, Sherry, immediately spring to mind, but the other bartenders are also good). A couple flat-screen TVs, year-round Christmas lights and chinese lantern-style decor and good, salt-of-the-earth clientele make this place a favorite. Perfect, especially, for a rainy weekend afternoon. Try the Peking ravioli, esp. with the chili sauce and you'll jones for it the rest of your life. If I'm lyin' I'm dyin'. read more

My wife and I have been searching for a Chinese restaurant in the North Salem area that has both Chinese and Japanese cuisine, as well as an assortment of sushi. Chief Wok checked off those boxes perfectly. The menu has a large assortment of those items, as well as some other interesting items. But best of all, everything that we ordered came out quickly, was served hot, was cooked impeccably, and best of all, was delicious. The staff is friendly and accommodating, the beverages are excellent and they don't skimp on the alcohol. :-) We have been to Chief Wok a few times now and each time we tried different items on the menu. The Yummy Yummy sushi is delicious. The Yudon Chicken is excellent. Dishes like Mongolian Beef and General Tso's Chicken are pretty common in Chinese restaurants, but they just taste better there. If you want to try something different, the Fried Green Beans appetizer will make you happy. And if you really want to be happy try a Scorpion Bowl or Mai Tai. You won't be sorry! read more
