I called ahead to ask some questions a few days in advance and the lady on the phone was extremely helpful and suggested dishes that would be suitable for the party, she was also very patient with me, answered every single question. The party was on a Sunday and I didn't realize they are shut on Sundays, however they were very kind to come in that Sunday and cook the food for us. We ordered sesame chicken, sweet and sour pork, beef with broccoli, vegetarian spring rolls. Everything was delicious and everyone at the party commented how good the food was. However, there are a few tables inside...and a restroom located a few steps through the "ordering wall." NOTE: We thought we ordered for eating in-sitio...but the food was handed to us in a large paper bag. So we simply took it home like all the other customers we observed. Food was average....mild flavors of traditional Chinese-American dishes. (Check the menu - looks virtually identical to so several other Chinese restaurants in this area. If I could give the restaurant zero stars I would. I have been coming to this restaurant for over 15 years. After not having it for almost 10 as I relocated I was ESTATIC to have it again. While picking up my call in order I made an additional purchase in the restaurant. While waiting for the food I slid down the counter for make room for anyone else who made come in. Still at the counter, in front of me, there was a menu taped to the counter, a seasonal pumpkin, and a tip jar. With a child behind the counter. The child an I exchanged smiles and he told his parents in the kitchen that I was touching the pumpkin. His mother, I assume, comes from the back and immediately glares at me. She then picks the pumpkin and puts it back down. Still glaring, she throws the tip jar behind the counter. That's when I realized she thought I was stealing! I say nothing as I am flabbergasted. My food is then finished and given to me by a young girl. I am still in shock as I take the food and attempt to exit. As I reach the door, the woman then says, "you steal!" Ma'am. I just supported your small business by placing TWO orders. I paid for my own meal. IF I STOLE FROM YOU WHY WOULD I STAY IN THE BUILDING?! I quickly tell her I did not and she accuses me again. She stated she knows how much money she had (yet didn't count the tip jar she threw behind the counter) she also stated she has cameras (Lovely! Let's watch them together!) At this point, I asked her to call the police. She refused and went back into the kitchen. As a black woman living in this for over 20 years AND frequenting this establishment, I HAVE NEVER BEEN TREATED LIKE THIS. Tucked in a small strip next to a neighborhood Publix, it's easy to miss this place. I added New China to my rotation over the past year and enjoy getting some of their stir fry and noodle dishes. They are typically fast and friendly - I usually phone ahead for takeout - and importantly the dishes are consistent in quality and freshness. The food is not overly oily or salty like many takeout Chinese spots. Flavors and textures are well balanced. Some of my favorites are Buddha's Delight and the Singapore Chow Mein Fun. Prices are quite reasonable - For the pandemic they have removed seating and installed plexiglass that separates the staff from customers - a bit like a box-office setup complete with a microphone. It makes for plenty of space between patrons and an efficient operation. In short, good quick food option with good value. Check it out. read more

The sign says "Open," but the space is nearly bare. Hmm. Take-out it is, then. Three lone chairs spaced 6 feet apart line the south wall. The pandemic seems to be winding down, but this apparently two-person operation is still spending lonely hours behind the limiting plexiglass Wall of New China. Finally, a head bobs up from its task beneath the service counter. Hungry for variety, I ordered a Po Po Platter (that snacks-for-two mix of pork ribs, skewered chicken sticks, Crab Rangoon, cabbage with pork egg rolls, fried chicken wings, and fried shrimp.) It only took a 10-to-15 minute wait, was still hot by the time I got home, and was mostly satisfying. In future I'll know to skip the shrimp. It wasn't bad, but it's a far from stellar blanket of thick, heavy dough suffocating a tasty shrimp. (Up-side: the shrimp will never be cold and the doughy mass is easily pulled away.) It reminds me of ever-present, random bites of sweet-and-sour whatever that while being as large as other bites are void of any meat. Former dining chairs and tables huddle in a heap along the north wall. The heap is silent, but orderly and seems hopeful that its community of parts will find happiness in a near future return to service. I'm crossing my fingers for the Hopeful Heap. read more

I completely forgot about this place during Covid and forgot how good it was. I have tried quite a few Chinese to go places and this place gets a 5 because it's one of the better ones that I have had in the area. The food is delicious (not greasy) and price is great. Food portions are generous. We ordered the fried shrimp and they were good and plentiful! Now the Moo Sho Pork Pancakes are awesome. The filling is delicious and reminded me of a restaurant I love in LA. Genera Tso's Chicken is really good and so is their Beef & Broccoli. The Lo Mein Noodles may not look like much but have lots of flavor. All in all, really good food! Sorry there are no pics. So much potential here. I have had delivery from this restaurant several times but this was my first visit to their location. They have stacked up all the furniture and constructed a plexiglass Covid barrier. Fine. Personal decision. The food is pretty good but customer service is close to zero. Unfriendly and they seem irritated to have to take your order and prepare the food. I was there Saturday at noon, ordered 2 dinner size entrees for $13 each, only got one serving of rice. Only one other customer during the 15+ minutes that i was waiting. Fast food Chinese is my weakness. Growing up, a close family friend of mine owned a Chinese restaurant that I worked at. It was my absolute favorite place for fast food Chinese. I compare them all to my family friend's place. I don't like that I'm so picky. But New China has great eggrolls, potstickers, and fried rice. Most of the time I don't order egg rolls, but today I was craving them, it's seasoned well and I can tell their oil they fry them in isn't old which I really really appreciate. This place is a small tucked inside a plaza next to a grocery store, has a few tables, but it's mostly carry out. Their dining space and kitchen look very clean. Best Chinese takeout food south of Nashville. I say south of Nashville because that's where I live and work. I've tried all the similar Chinese takeout in this area (Smyrna, Nolensville, Franklin, Murfreesboro, Spring Hill, Thompson Station, Columbia) and New China is definitely the best. Food is always fast. Usually my orders are done in 15-20 minutes. It's never taken over 30 minutes. The takeout somehow continues to be hot when I do get it home. The packaging is fantastic. The very best egg rolls!!!! Sesame Chicken, General Chicken is fantastic. Family business. Good people and great food. It's also very conveniently located next to a Publix and liquor store and not very far off interstate 65 exit 65. read more

I'm was glad to see a well reviewed Chinese restaurant this close to my home in the Cool Springs area of Franklin. I'm a huge Chinese food fan and have tried several places since moving here over the summer. Peking Palace in Franklin was my previous favorite. It's very good but expensive, and quite a bit further away. New China, I am pleased to report, is almost as good and much more reasonably priced. My order did get a little mixed up - I ordered carry out and the girl behind the counter must not have heard or understood me - but the chicken and vegetable dish I didn't order turned out to be delicious. I would definitely order again if I knew what it was The Kung Pao and Lo Mein were excellent too. I highly recommend this little place. read more

They do special orders (for example: leaving out certain ingredients on request) and the family operating the restaurant is friendly and quite efficient. New China actually prompted me to create my first Yelp review. I just moved right up the street and was excited to have a Chinese Restaurant right down the road. Whenever I order the stereotypical "take-out" Chinese food, my wife and I always have the Shrimp Lo-mein, Crab Rangoon, and a bowl of Hot and Sour soup. The first thing I noticed when I went in to pick up my food was how dirty and cluttered the place was. It was a typical small Chinese restaurant, but their two kids were there and they had kids toys all over the place. I just thought that was kind of wierd. My wife is kind of weird about that stuff, so I know if she ever saw it, she would never let me order from there again. That being said, the food was very good. The Lo-mein, in particular was a huge portion and wasn't as greasy as I've had in the past. I was also impressed with the amount of Shrimp in the meal. The Crab Rangoon was also really good. Not too much of a straight cream cheese taste like you sometimes can get. Although, my wife didn't care for it, I actually enjoyed the Hot and Sour soup. It was even better reheated the next day. Overall, mainly for convenience, I would order from New China again, especially, if my wife isn't home. I do not think my wife would care to eat there again. read more

When I'm willing to risk an MSG induced migraine for Chinese food, New China is my go to place. My husband does take out here a lot on my late shifts at work because he knows I've gotten some nasty migraines in the past after eating Chinese food. But surprisingly, I haven't gotten migraines the past few times I've eaten here! Maybe it's coincidence, or maybe they don't use as much MSG. The food here is actually really good. Large servings at a good price. I can eat two meals off one combo order between $7-9. The family that owns the place is always there, and their little boy is usually at one of the tables doing his homework. Drinks are served in the bottle in a fridge. Although I typically go for Pei Wei, the Franklin, TN location is so bad at service I've started shopping for Chinese elsewhere. This is my new Chinese restaurant. I ordered General Tso's, an egg roll, and egg drop soup. Pei Wei wins on egg rolls, but the portion size here is impressive, and I can tweak the heat. Plus...EGG DROP SOUP! Don't be put off by the location(beside a Publix and dry cleaner in a shopping center) or the booths. This isn't a restaurant all dolled up to make you think you're in China. Let me start by saying that everyone has their own opinion when it comes to Chinese food. That being said, I feel like this place is not much better than Panda and that is me being generous. Maybe we ordered the wrong things? Maybe the person cooking was having an off day? We ordered a orange chicken and substituted the rice for lo mein noodles. The orange chicken had that mystery meat vibe to it, where you just have to trust that it is what they say it is. I could only eat a couple pieces. I wouldn't recommend this orange chicken for people who are sensitive to spicy foods. If you are using panda as a benchmark, this is about 3x the spice level. We also ordered lemon chicken. In the past I have gone with this item to "play it safe". Usually it consists of a Breaded boneless chicken fillet sliced into roughly 1" wide pieces and is served with a lemon sauce and / or fresh lemons to squeeze onto it. Seems pretty safe right? This was the most garbage chicken fillet I have probably ever seen. It was like they took a chicken finger amount of meat and pounded it out to about 1/4" thickness and battered that in tempura until the fillet looked huge and thick. When it is sliced you can see that the actual chicken inside is very thin and it is 75-90% batter which was also very bland. It reminded me of a frozen breaded chicken fillet that you would get from Walmart except when you cut it open there is only a very thin piece of chicken hiding in the middle. This huge imposter of a chicken fillet was sliced into 3 very wide pieces and came with a lemon sauce that was not very good and no fresh lemon slices anywhere. The whole experience made me feel like we threw our money away along with most of the food we didn't eat and couldn't even feed our dogs with. Luckily this place is right in the middle of a huge neighborhood and there isn't much competition close by. I think that is the main reason that this place may survive. I wish we had a better experience but that's what happened. I don't leave many reviews but I felt like this one was necessary. It might possibly help save someone else from the negative experience, wasting money and overwhelming disappointment that we had. I would pass if you have any other options to get your Chinese fix. read more
