We came here for lunch on a busy Market Square Saturday. Thank goodness for making reservations ahead of time, because the restaurant was packed with happy diners. Immediately, I loved their quaint interior decorated with octopuses and mermaids. The mermaid at the helm of the bar was just Instagram worthy by herself. We were seated right away and our server was the delightful Brooke. She was so helpful in her recommendations, as it was our first time here. I ended up getting the fish tacos. I loved the tender mahi mahi and the slightly hot sauce in the tacos. My better half was happy with his Pearl Burger. We both agreed that the hand cut fries were amazing and we devoured all of them. For drinks we just did soda, and ended up the meal with a cappuccino. Big thanks to Brooke for always being on top of our drinks as well, and taking such great care of us. The food is good but the atmosphere is a bit chaotic. It's also quite warm in this restaurant. I sat at the bar with my companion. Even at the marble top countertop with oysters on ice next to me, it was uncomfortable. The bartenders were unhappy and pushy. "Give me your whole order right now", gesturing a rolling motion with her hands. Me and my guest seemed to be an inconvenience, as the two bartenders struggled to keep up behind the messiest bar I have ever seen. Really a shame. read more

My wife and I recently visited The Brass Pearl for dinner. I love a good raw oyster bar that features different types of oysters from around the country. However, I think this is the first time I've seen Oysters from Gulf states (Florida and Alabama) on the menu from an oyster bar like this. Oysters from the Gulf doesn't really scream "high quality" to me and maybe could be considered a red flag in this type of establishment. I skipped those and ordered the options from the New England area. The oysters were fresh and had varying flavor profiles from the salty and briny to citrusy and tangy but these were some of the smallest oysters I have tried so I was left wanting a little more from the experience. I also ordered the Fisherman's Stew. This was delicious with rich tomato sauce with a hint of spiciness, tender shrimp, smokey lobster, flakey fish, briny tender mussels and a cheese al dente risotto. I stumbled into the brass pearl when looking for a place to pass a little time since the other bars in the surrounding area were closed. I came right at 4 which is when happy hour starts. The happy hr menu is limited, just a few cocktails (and they didn't have the ingredients for most of them) so I just got a glass of sparkling wine (it was only like $5). The bartender (Hope) was very sweet and helpful, she gave me some recs for the future when coming back to Gatlinburg/the smokies. The vibe in this bar was also good, I'm sure it's a very nice place to have dinner in the evenings. It was a gorgeous day and we had the pup so decided to eat outside on their cozy patio. The hostess was so friendly and welcoming to us and our Buddy. Our server, Mya, came right out with a friendly welcoming smile. She brought our pup a water bowl and brought us a bottle of regular water. (They also have sparkling). I ordered the crab cake sandwich and my husband ordered the Pearl Burger. Both sandwiches were HUGE and came with a plentiful helping of fries. They had a tasty seasoning on the fries. First of all Henry was amazing! For first timers he had our party WELL taken care of! The fisherman's stew was absolutely the best meal I had in Knoxville. We both had fisherman's stew that contained rock lobster, shrimp, mussels and fish atop lobster risotto with a tangy tomato stew. Had a great dinner. Our waitress was fantastic. We had calamari and lobster bisque for appetizers. Calamari was the best I've ever had, I would not get the bisque again. I had a lobster roll and hubby had the seafood stew, which he loved. Lobster roll was cold and the lobster had mayo mixed in. I'm used to warm lobster with butter and potato chips on the side. But there was a lot more on the menu that I'll try next time! A little on the pricey side and don't go by the menu that comes up on the web, they have changed it. Somewhat expensive at $3.75 each but they were a tasty treat albeit 450 miles from the ocean! Entree was the Chilean sea bass with lobster risotto and grilled asparagus. Perfectly cooked fish with beurre blanc over the top, lobster risotto was luxurious, grilled asparagus on the bottom were good but tough, woody ends could have better trimmed off. An evening out to celebrate an anniversary took us to the BP for the first time. We set up a reservation for a 6:30 landing online, the system is fairly turn key and worked great with confirmation and reminders - good tool. Downtown parking is free in the garages so easy to get the vehicle stabled. We were seating quickly and our wait staff arrived quickly. We opted for drinks from the wine menu, while a good selection the $10 portion seemed a bit high for the wine quality. We opted for the lobster bisque starter which arrived nicely. We found the dish tasty, nice spicy hit and plenty to go around. We later commented that it would serve 4 comfortably .. filling. We went for a couple of recognized main dishes from prior comments, the Fisherman's stew and Shrimp & Grits. Both dishes were hot, spicy and large portions (clearly a take a way worthy). The atmosphere was quiet, comfortable, clean and welcoming. I always like + and - elements so here they are: + pluses Great atmosphere Friendly wait staff Quality food Good attention to details (candle on table, cloth napkins) - room to improve Pricing is at the top of what should be paid for your products Wait staff seems stretched, we found ourselves waiting for water refills and attention - not extreme but could be better Food portions, a bit too large so be aware, love to see lower price for smaller portion We will return with the learned experience. Went last night on a friday night around 6 or 7 pm and they were very busy, I was able to squeeze in at the bar, but it's best to make reservations if you want a table here. Everyone was very nice. Both bartenders were kind and knowledgeable about the menu. The oysters were my favorite part, the malpeque and savage blonde were from canada and were my favorites, with great flavors. Fiddle head from massachusetts and blackberry from virginia were both good, very clean taste. And the most interesting was the bay water indigo from washington which has a cucumber finish to it which is so cool! I also had the lobster dip which was really good as well. They also have their own hot sauces on display, which have little droppers so you can put the exact amount of hot sauce you want on there, which was perfect for the oysters. Good seafood is hard to come by in Knoxville and the seafood here was ok depending on taste and preference. If you're really picky about your seafood, I would recommend another place.
