I got the lunch garlic chicken with shrimp fried rice, wife got general tso's lunch with lo mein. Both were excellent. So far the best Chinese food I've had in northern Rochester. I'm sad to say, but I found this food to be almost inedible. I ordered the szechuan beef combo for my boyfriend. He loves this dish at another local place, but I was trying to branch out. Big mistake! The szechuan sauce, which is the star of this dish, was not good. It was almost like someone took sweet and sour sauce and put Red pepper flakes in it. The pieces of meat were extra soft and some of the mixed veggies didn't go well with the sauce, in my opinion. The pork fried rice was tasty and not dried out. So that part was good. I had ordered a noodle soup for myself. There wasn't anything inherently wrong with the ingredients in the soup, but I thought the broth really lacked flavor and depth. I tried the beef & cheese egg roll. I will say that this was good but had oil dripping out of it and pooling in the bag so I threw away the second half of it. I felt like I should not eat that much oil on top of eating something deep fried. I also enjoyed the steamed dumplings, but my boyfriend did not think the filling was good. One of the handful of places my family ordered from as a kid. Always had really good food..and for the most part was a treat when my mom would drive out to get it. This may sound funny but one of the things that was really unique about this place back in the day...was the Chinese fried noodles. You know those crunchy hard ones? They were one of the first to make em in the "other" style. Where they are more thicker and taste different...when I was 12 or so back in 95, my family was at first scared to eat them....thinking they were pork rinds lmao...it seems so funny now as an adult because I have probably ate pork rinds more time than I can count(thanks to the Atkins craze of early 2000s)...but as a kid they were a very foreign snack in my house! Anyways back to those fried noodles... I eventually was the guinnee pig and tried them once in the car as my mom drove my little brother and i home. They're not pork rinds! I remember shouting..They're just home made fried noodles! And before I could reach my little chubby fingers back in the hot bag..my mom snatched it from me... I should have lied and said they were pork rinds, because from that may moment on. Whenever we ordered food from here, we would all fight over the of fried noodles. Fast forward to me as an adult..I have ordered here countless times in the last 6 years. Mainly because I used to live closer by. Its for sure one of the better places. Their soups are really good . i suggest their vegetable with bean cake..a great soup for vegetarians or if you are trying g to lose weight. Or if you just want to try something different. Other must tries... Their eggplant with chicken and garlic sauce...So good! a little on the sweet side..so I like to pair with a savory dish. Hot n spicy beef is a great choice... Friday night of a long week and totally sick of pizza. Decided to give the nearby Chinese place a shot. Unfortunately, it's not that great. The appetizers we got - beef on a stick and egg rolls - absolutely horrible. Egg rolls were hard, flavorless and no shrimp in them at all. Beef was paper thin, chewy and stringy. Never again! For the main courses we got chicken lo mein - okay, nothing special and the sweet & sour pork was actually pretty good. Delivery service was prompt and friendly but overall won't go again. They sold me spoiled, rotten chicken... It was awful! I ordered at 9:15pm on a Thursday and the kid delivered it at roughly 10pm.This wasn't a case of fresh food sitting for an hour though. I assumed the offensive odor was the mushrooms but as soon as i bit into the chicken it became VERY clear what the source was. If you have ever had spoiled chicken, you know it tastes and smells like death. Since the place was closed I just called 10mins ago and spoke to the kid whom delivered it last night. I explained the situation, he told the owners, then came back on to ask me to bring the food in. Totally fine if I had a vehicle. (hence the need for delivery) Then it was followed by "So what did you want us to do?" REALLY!? Over $20 and a bad attitude you lose a long-time customer. The bite of spoiled chicken made me nauseous but their indignant attitude is worse. NEVER AGAIN!!! read more

New East Star is our go to Chinese restaurant for take out. It is located in Stutson plaza at the corner of Thomas Ave and Stutson St. in Irondequoit. Typical of low budget chinese restaurants, the wall has stock pictures of standard american style chinese food, and the interior has a couple ramshackle tables and chairs, better suited to waiting for takeout than actually eating You can usually find a coupon for 10% or a few bucks off your purchase on the bottom of the menu. All the standard entrees are there, kung pao, cashew chicken, sweet and sour chicken, etc....You won' find any particularly inventive dishes here, but you will get good, fast chinese food that is always fresh. The chicken never tastes stale as it does at so many other chinese restaurants, and they do a nice job with the dumplings and spring rolls. For about $30 you get a ridiculous amount of food for five with plenty of leftovers. The kung Pao chicken and shrimp has a good amount of both with nice plump medium sized shrimp, and a good mix of vegetables and peanuts, though it could definitely be much spicier. Cashew chicken is also dependably good. Our youngest loves the sweet and sour chicken which is just tempura battered chicken bites with a tangy red sauce, but the chicken is nice fresh white breast meat... Reasonable prices, friendly service and consistent quality make this a family favorite for Friday nights. read more

In-Store Experience: When I first pulled up I could see 2 young (7-10 y/o) kids that looked like they were playing inside the store. I thought they were probably just a customers kids waiting in the store - Nope. These kids were legit WORKING THERE!!! When I first walked in the older of the two came up to me and asked if I was there for pickup. I said yes and then he asks for my phone number and how I'd like to pay. Keep in mind, this kid is like 10 years old, if that. I'm thinking to myself "oh, this is kinda cute, this kid is helping his parents or whatever".. then he takes my card, brings me out my food, and PROCESSES THE ENTIRE CREDIT CARD TRANSACTION HIMSELF! He literally handed me my food, receipt & pen to sign it and was the only person I even interacted with up until that point. There was a late teens-early twenty something woman at the register but she didn't do anything or say a word the entire time. This young boy did it all with his even younger sister following him around the entire time. Once I get my food he asked me if I wanted a receipt, to which I said yes. It was at this point an older asian woman come over from the back area and was yelling at the boy in chinese, then she came around the counter to me and was trying to explain the receipt was already in my bag of food. After a few minutes of not really understanding each other I asked for chopsticks and left. As I was walking out the woman continued to yell at the young boy and twenty something girl standing at the register. The Food: We got an order of Sesame Chicken and an order of Sweet & Sour Chicken. The food wasn't bad, but everything tasted like salt. Like extremely salty. I would rate the food 7/10. My Opinion: It was my first time getting food from here, and it will probably be my last. I couldn't believe that this little kid was the only person I dealt with while in the place. Maybe the family that runs the place is hard up, or maybe they're trying to teach the business to their kids, or maybe it was a one-time thing. I dunno... In my mind they should be home doing homework, or watching tv, or playing with friends or something.. anything besides working there late on a school night. read more

This is a good place for takeout. Their sweet & sour chicken is usually good (not too greasy) and I love their egg drop soup. Other items that are good: tofu or chicken with black bean sauce, or pork lo mein. Not really a place where I would have a sit down meal, but my kids love it when we get takeout from here. read more

The food here is decent, but nothing special. The menu items marked as spicy aren't spicy at all, but when you cater to an American palate I'm not surprised. The delivery is pretty quick. When they say 30 minutes, its more like 20. My only real issue with this place is that my gut is not a fan of what I ate the day before. I've never had stomach issues from Chinese food before, I've even lived in Asia for a while. For some reason the food here just doesn't sit well with me. Ridiculous customer service! They forgot to deliver part of our order, when I called to tell them and ask them to drop it off, they said they would but they would charge me $3 for a delivery fee!!! I'm not cheap, $3 is nothing but the fact that they wanted to charge me for their mistake was absolutely ridiculous!
