Ordered sushi to go, the rainbow roll has WAY too much roe on it to be appetizing and it's hard to eat without getting it all over. The fish inside the roll was truly tasteless. But the worst was paying $10 for the spicy scallop hand roll only to have to throw it out. It was completely inedible. It was dry and pasty. There are a couple of Asian restaurants in my area that I frequent but I chose Sakura tonight based solely on proximity... Which was a mistake... I ordered chicken with garlic sauce, one of my go-to dishes. When I opened the container I was overwhelmed with a somewhat nauseating plastic odor. Hoping that it was just the container, I transferred the food to a plate and cut the large chunks of meat and vegetables into manageable sizes... Didn't look appetizing and still carried a bit of a plastic scent but I took a bite... And immediately transferred the food to an appropriate receptacle. Definite melted plastic taste. On a bright note, the egg roll was delicious. I see that there are a fair number of good reviews. Perhaps eating in would have been a better choice? I definitely can't recommend the take out... It's the best Asian cuisine in Fairport. The other option in downtown Fairport is... not great. Sakura Garden is good, not the best Asian I've had but good and it's nice that you can get Japanese and Chinese all in one spot. The tempura appetizer is really good, lots of variety and the dipping sauces are nice. We've tried a couple different sushi rolls and they were all good. The beef and broccoli was a hit with my son. The fried rice was just okay. The service is hit and miss depending on who is working the counter. I ordered delivery from Uber Eats. 1) Tuna Lover Sushi 2) Beef with Broccoli and 3) Chicken Lo Mein. It arrived hot. The Beef with Broccoli was LOADED with oil. I'm guessing it was a seed oil so imagine how unhealthy it was. The oil also overtook the beef, broccoli and carrot flavor. Basically the worst I've ever eaten. I ordered hot and sour soup, General Tso, and the eel sushi. Soup was good. They brought my meal too soon after serving the soup. The General was good as was the eel. The service was good. This is our go to for Chinese food in Fairport. Food is always delicious and warm. I am not a huge fan of their dumplings. They're more like gyozas (small less dough) vs the typical dumpling you find at most Chinese food locations. Definitely try they're wonton soup, vegetable fried rice and sesame chicken. We went here thinking it must be another location of the Sakura Home in Pittsford. It definitely is not. It is absolutely gross. The food had this weird musty flavor to it. The tables are rickety, the decor is falling apart. I am scarred for live over the absolute filth in the bathroom. There was YEARS of brown gunk built up on the walls, mouse droppings and just filth all over. If I had seen the bathroom before we ate, we would have walked out. Usually i'm pretty picky and stick to the adage, "Jack of all trades, master of none." That still applies with Sakura Garden, but I have to say that both their Chinese and Japanese food are solid. We've tried their General Tso's Chicken and Eggplant with Garlic Sauce. Both are very good and the huge portions will leave you with leftovers. I haven't tried any of their fancy rolls. I've seen a number of good reviews for Sakura Garden so I though it was worth a shot. I am generally a bit skeptical of a Japanese restaurant that also has Chinese food, but whatever. We ordered mostly Chinese dishes but also a couple of spicy tuna rolls, our favorite. I put in my order for takeout and then drove over right away. The food was ready and waiting. Things were off to a good start I thought. We unpacked the food and things looked pretty good. The dishes looked like they were ready for a photo session. I was feeling pretty excited so far. But... Hot and Spicy Soup - Very bland. Not much flavor and definitely not spicy. The tofu pieces were clumped together so it was probably sitting around for a while. Spicy Tuna rolls - Spicy tuna should not taste fishy, but it did. I'm pretty certain I am going to be paying the price tomorrow for trying this. We threw most of this out. Ma Po Tofu - Very bland. The tofu was not silken. General Tso's Tofu - Pretty bland. The texture of the tofu seemed more like it was cooked earlier in the day and more dried out than fried. It didn't seem to be freshly cooked. Hunan Beef - Looked great. There was a good ratio of beef and vegetables. The taste was VERY bland though. Spice level was zero. I added some soy sauce and it helped a little. Moo Shu Pork - This was the only dish that tasted decent, although the pork was pretty sparse. It was mostly cabbage. Lo Mein with Shrimp - The texture of the shrimped seemed like it was previously frozen. Okay, that isn't a deal breaker. Overall, the dish was pretty bland but not as bland as the others. So... based on the spicy tuna, I'm glad I didn't load up on the sushi. Again, the tuna was NOT fresh and I will probably get sick. The rest of it was so disappointing, especially given so many positive reviews. Maybe they just had a bad night, but some of the issues were systemic like the freshness of the tuna and tofu that was likely prepared earlier in the day. Optimistically, I put the leftovers in the fridge but most of it will likely go in the trash tomorrow aside from the Moo Shu Pork. read more

My friends and I had a movie day out in Fairport and ended up ordering from Sakura Garden for all of our dinner needs. As far as Chinese goes, this is some of the best in the area, I'd say. Never experienced such poor and overtly antagonist customer service. Our hearts were set on sushi, so that's what we went for. We went for a few special rolls and traditional nigiri. The rolls themselves were quite nice. Tasty, fish was fresh, and there was a nice balance between the rolls and sauces on top. I also have no complaints upon the nigiri. Being quite impressed with the sushi, I asked the chef for his signature roll. After all, every sushi chef has their signature roll. He made us something I've never had before and it was magical. This roll was not wrapped with seaweed, soy paper, nor with rice. With about 5 different types of raw fish, it was all wrapped with paper thin tuna. This was not only impressive, beautiful, but extremely tasty. I would absolutely return and this Chinese-menu focused restaurant surprised me. If it was a stand-alone sushi focused restaurant, I think this restaurant would have something special. Perhaps I'd give the Chinese food a try (Generally, I'm not a fan), but for now I'd definitely recommend the sushi. read more
