First time and last time ordering. Got delivery. Simple order: Fried Dumplings , egg roll, Sesame chicken, and Vegetable Egg Foo Young (no broccoli, add water chestnuts). Easy peasy right? Egg roll had no pork which was not listed. Dumplings were tough and chewy. Sesame chicken was meh and pale looking. Egg Foo Young was greasy (never saw that before) and inedible because THEY FORGOT THE GRAVY which is a main component of the dish. I tried it without the gravy and got broccoli! They read the note because they did add water chestnuts. Rice was undercooked. They gave two fortune cookies but left out SOY AND DUCK SAUCE (see Egg Foo Young gravy for same issue of inedibility). I did eat the tough and greasy egg roll as I had to eat something. Called the restaurant and they apologized and asked if we could come pick the missing items up! Ummm would not have ordered delivery if we could pick up. Not worth second chance. Be cautious if you order from here because now the husband is having stomach issues! read more

I have eaten Chinese food around the world and China Gourmet House is one of the best!! A GEM right underneath your noses for great Szechuan and other delicacies. Pretty mediocre. I found the flavors very lacking in the food I ordered. I ordered Singapore style noodles, which should have a little heat and spice to them, and these def didn't. I don't know if it was because I was hungry or what, but the food hit all the right spots last night. I ordered sweet and sour shrimp and beef lo mein. The batter on the shrimp was pretty yummy, not too much breading. The beef on the lo mein was soft and had a good flavor. Honestly, it was good takeout. I haven't had Chinese food in awhile, so I decided to order a take-out. I had chicken with broccoli and house rice instead of pork fried rice. I also ordered the chicken noodle soup. The food here is great, but the only complaint is they are very stingy with the meat that's supposed to be in the rice. I was better off not requesting any meat and just get plain fried rice. Don't usually leave reviews but had this place again tonight and last night. Been going there at least 20 years if not longer. I've never had a bad meal from here. Sesame chicken, sweet and sour chicken, beef and broccoli, various lo meins and fried rices-all excellent. Once in a while the beef in the beef and broccoli is a bit on the tougher side but I've seen that at all Chinese restaurants-or happens with beef, it's not their fault. I can't recommend this place enough. It's my absolute go to for Chinese in the Rochester area. Every time I bring someone new there they always love it and make that their go to Chinese place. I'm honestly shocked at the one star reviews. I wonder if it happened during the transition period when it was sold. Either way, I'm shocked at the bad reviews but I guess no where is perfect. Chinese, is for me, the be all-end all of take out. Yummy noodles, crunchy egg rolls, sweet and spicy chunks of chicken! You can't go wrong. Now, I can't say Gourmet House is the best I've ever had, but it a solid choice. They have decent hours and are usually pretty quick. We often get the General Taos, Crab Rangoon, Low Mein, Egg Rolls.... sometimes well try other things. I don't know how but somehow their fries are always still crispy when we get home. Wanna make a million bucks? Invent a take out container that keeps crispy thingy crispy. The condensation and steam usually cause the fries to go limp but this place not so much. I was craving vegetable mei fun recently, and was scouring the assortment of menus in my kitchen for a location with this item on the menu. Gourmet House had what I was looking for, and luckily enough for me, it's super close to my house. I called in a take-out order and it was ready literally in 10 minutes. Located in the Wegmans plaza on Titus and Hudson, the location is great. There is plenty of parking, and you can get an assortment of shopping done after a dine-in experience. The restaurant is rather small, but there is enough seating. The staff is friendly and helpful. Now onto my meal. The Vegetable Mei Fun was the perfect portion size - smaller than my go-to Chinese restaurant - but just enough for one person and with a decent price as well. I like that they have round take out containers too. I save these for left overs at home and they are the perfect size. The vegetables included were an assortment of baby corn, carrot, pea pods, and celery. I was a little surprised by the inclusion of celery, but it actually tasted quite good. I would have liked it served with egg, but it was without. While it wasn't exactly like my favorite vegetable mei fun from elsewhere, this dish hit the spot on a day I didn't feel like driving very far. read more

Wonderful handling of my order - very clean and safe-feeling during COVID19 pandemic. Food was hot and ready at the appointed time, and they were very careful to make sure my order was complete. As far as taste: This is very good chinese take-out. We all loved every dish. I always judge a chinese restaurant by their hot and sour soup: This one misses the pork, and misses the wood ear mushrooms, so I had to take away one star for these staples being absent. This is the only place we order Chinese food from. We have tried other places and to us nothing compared in our area. We have been going here fo re a few years now and pretty much get the same thing each time. The sesame chicken is fantastic. We always ask for it to be extra spicy. A side order of crab rangoon and an order of fried dumplings. The staff is extremely friendly. They get the food out hot and on time. Only downside is no delivery. Was dying for Chinese food and thought I'd give them a try! Family of 4... the only one that was decent was the eggplant, broccoli, zucchini. The taste was ok there was not one piece of zucchini tho. The beef and broccoli was mediocre. Not bad but a bit dry. The sweet and sour was overcooked. My MooShu chicken was...eh...there was no hoisin sauce with it and the pancakes were awful. Generally good food at an appropriate price. The crab rangoons are above average for the area (I've recently been trying different Chinese restaurants around the area). The Szechuan chicken had plenty of vegetables, but wasn't very flavorful; on the menu I say at the door, they say they can accommodate spice levels--next time I'll ask for a bit more spice. read more

I wasted $18 and ended up eating a can of soup for dinner because when I got home and sat down to eat, the food was so disgusting that I couldn't even eat it. The hot n sour soup was very sweet like eating a desert. There's a reason it's called hot n sour, not hot n sweet. When I bit into the pork egg roll, it was moosh inside and tasted old and terrible. Worst Hot and Sour soup I ever had! Loaded with tofu, had celery and baby corn; wasn't hot or sour. Taste was bland; as a person of Scottish/ German descent, my soup is 100 times better. I don't know about the bad reviews this place gets or if they reviews are just outdated but they couldn't be more wrong. I stopped by a few months back with my mother after shopping at Wegmans and have been coming back since. Its in a perfect stop and the food and service is always delicious. I believe it is family owned and run it's the same people running the place and they are extremely nice I've been here a few times and they already remember us. I have order the sesame tofu, Kung po tofu, ma po tofu, hot and sour soup, white rice, vegetable steamed dumplings and they are all delicious and cooked perfect all served with a smile from the nice lady up front. My mother orders more meat dishes and I have yet to hear a complaint from her she loves the service and the food. Around 3-4 a little boy gets here with her husband I believe and the restaurant just feels all the more homey. Stop by when you can and have some hot tea watch some tv and enjoy the day with some delicious food. read more

I've been there twice now. The first time the service was good, and so was the food (great egg drop soup and garlic chicken). The second time, we got a waiter who didn't speak English, and the food was just so-so. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately), I used the restroom during the second visit and was totally grossed out. It was so dirty and the doorknob was so sticky, that I suspect the cooks never wash their hands before returning to the kitchen. Fairly sure we won't be back :( read more

My family and I have been loyal customers for years! By far the best Chinese restaurant around.....that is until they changed ownership a short time ago. I have given it a few tries, each time disappointing. Tonight was the absolute worst. The beef in the beef and broccoli was tough and hard to swallow, the lomein noodles were short and over cooked, the broccoli in the garlic and broccoli was over cooked and mushy as well, but it did have a nice flavor to it. It is now the WORST for Chinese takeout in Irondequoit! I asked the manager before I ordered if they were still the same owners...he told me they were not, but he told me everything on the menu was still the same as well as the prices. I said ok I'll give you a chance and try you. So I ordered the Sesame Chicken combination with an order of Fried Crab Ragoons. Well when I opened my meal I immediately could see it was all different in the size of the pieces and what they looked like! The sesame chicken pieces were all SMALL and all very hard when trying to stick a fork into them...like rocks! I tried biting into a piece and it was all just fried crisps..I had to cut into another one and it showed very little chicken to it. So I called the manager at the restaurant right away to tell him that I was not happy and very disappointed with the meal...immediately he started yelling into the phone saying your wrong...I've made 10 of these today and you're the only one to complain and went on and on and on. I said sir, does it really matter to you that I am not satisfied with what you have served me on my order...then he started yelling the same thing again. I told him the pieces were as hard as rocks, most with little chicken to them...all just fried up nothing pieces. He screamed I am sorry into the phone and you are the only one to call and say anything. I said well maybe I'm the only one to call to let you know of my dissatisfaction, but that doesn't mean these other people will consider ordering from you again just because they didn't call. He refused to accept my dissatisfaction and I told him I would of rather been sitting down enjoying my meal than calling to complain about it and hearing him scream into the phone. Most owners and managers would not handle themselves in this manner...Koo-koo! I guess he just doesn't know how to handle negative feedback on the food he serves!...well sorry, but if I buy it and it's not good, as in telling me everything you serve is still the same as with the previous owner...than he lied and doesn't want to deal with dissatisfied customers. Also their crab ragoons order were just as bad!! Hard as a rock..flat with very little "cheese only" filling...horrible, not great at all!! My suggestion: Do yourself a big favor, go somewhere else where you know the food is what you pay to get, receive respectful customer service over any dissatisfaction and not a wild screaming manager (owner) at the other end yelling and telling you your wrong about their food!!
