The owner was great and helpful - she nicely insisted on making sure I understood all the reasons it might not turn out the way I envisioned (very thin fabric and fine detailing) before we agreed on a price. I needed to get a dress hemmed because it was about 4 inches too long. I wanted the bottom of my dress to be long enough to just brush the floor without being a tripping hazard. It was a simple dress with two layers - inner lining with a sheer top layer. I tried calling ahead to get a quote but she kept saying the price was dependent on the dress. Based on the reviews, I decided to give it a try. When I got there, she looked at the dress and said "Umm...$25". I don't know what she was basing that on. The price was more expensive than I'm used to - I typically pay $15-18 for a simple hem like that. She said I could leave if I didn't like the price but I had already driven all the way there and didn't have time to look for another place so I went ahead and had her do the alterations. As she was pinning the bottom of the dress up, I noticed it was uneven but she assured me that the hem would be straight. When I went to pick up the dress, the top sheer layer was longer than the bottom lining so my feet were showing a little bit. I pointed this out to her but she stated it was because I was not standing straight...so I stood as straight as I could and showed her that the top layer was still longer. Then she said she couldn't do anything if it was hemmed too short but she could cut the top layer to match the bottom layer. I left frustrated. read more

Bought a new suit last month and came here to have the waist taken in and the legs shortened, also had the midsection of the coat taken in. She did a great job. This place does great work on making spots and stains disappear, which is totally a miracle because I like to wear white a lot. They do wonders on my silk dresses; they know exactly what to do with what type of material so that the outcome is always better than worse. They do great tailoring, I am rather short for my size so I always have my jeans altered and they look and feel great. They also do great in replacing lost buttons on suit-shirts for men and fancier ones for girls. They just have a kept supply of buttons of every shape, size and color! What I love MOST about them is their reasonable price; I can definitely say that this Laundry Mat is definitely the cheapest around in the local area, and nobody can resist a good deal! read more

Melted snaps! Beware, this business does not take responsibility if they damage your clothing. Brought in a men's shirt with metal snaps instead of buttons. Had it for several years and have taken it to other cleaners successfully. N.E. melted several of the snaps to the point where they're no longer snap-able. The owner said she cannot take responsibility for every button or snap that comes through her shop, and that I should know that snaps wear out over time. When given the opportunity to make it right by fixing or compensation vs. losing a neighbor's business, she chose to lose business. Shady ethics and not so smart business. I had a lambskin rug that was absolutely filthy and then the cat peed on it. I got it back from New Economy pristine like it was new. The service was great! got 2 suit coats "tailored" for a job interview. they took a week and $50 out of my pocket. what I got back is a hack job - of buttons moved over for the difference. the old thread where the buttons where left. leaving 4 inches of suit coat hanging. (looks like a double breasted coat with buttons missing. HORRIBLE FIT. "shortened" sleeves -literally just cut at the wrist and hemmed. absolutely horrible. will NEVER return. if you have mens alterations to be done - pass on this joint. they will RUIN your investment. unless of course you are looking to walk around in a coat that looks like your child altered it for you... read more

I came here to get pockets relined and a bridesmaid dressed hemmed (not altered). The prices seemed very reasonable ($18 for the hem, including the lining of the dress, and $10/pocket for totally new pockets). Everything was done after two days, though it might have been a slow time of year since it was the week between Christmas and New Years. I was happy with both repairs, although I don't have a very discerning eye when it comes to sewing. I'd definitely come back for future alterations, etc. read more

I've been a fan of Terry and New Economy for years - even though I now live internationally, whenever I'm back visiting family I bring my most valued clothes for dry cleaning and alterations because I trust her that much. In the past she's altered bridesmaids dresses to make them less hideous and more flattering, cleaned MY wedding dress (twice because the hem was full of grass stains!), and this week, is altering dresses, skirts, and replacing a zipper on a jacket for me. She's fast, got a great eye and handwork, super friendly, and always gives professional service. There's also free parking in front and near the place so makes my errands that much faster to do. I had a WAY TOO BIG bridesmaid's dress that I needed altered on 1-week's notice. The alterations were complicated because the dress has many layers and ruffles, so I was concerned that it would be an expensive job. I took the dress to New Economy and the job was done exactly on time and exactly perfectly. The dress was taken in 4 sizes and you can't even see where the alterations were made. Today, I was researching for a dry cleaner that had 24 hour service. My sister is in town for a short visit and needs some things done before taking off early Friday. I was making my way through the list of dry cleaners in my area and made the innocent mistake of calling this place twice. I went to New Economy cleaners today and i was sadden by the unfriendly service. I had a long-term relationship with this business for many years. Unfortunately they have changed ownership and the new owners do not bring with them the same charm and grace the former owners had. I was asked if I needed help and there was woman trying a wedding gown for alteration. The owner stop to help me with s coat I brought in for cleaning and a missing hook clasp. The owner said that she could not fix the clasp and she could not guarantee the others would not fall off. I asked her if she thought it was safe to wash and she said it is up to you! In a rude tone then said she was busy with the other customer. I told the owner that I was asking for her professional opinion and if she was busy she could told me that and said she would be with me in a moment. I bought a Theory suit jacket which fit great, but not perfect. I brought in my new suit jacket to Terry who altered it to fit like a glove. She even showed me how she did it, by opening up the jacket lining in the sleeve to alter the darts in the front and back. She opened it up in the sleeve to hide the entry and also folded the edges of the lining material and sewed it shut in a very straight line. It looked untouched when she was done, except that the jacket suddenly fit perfectly. She also shortened the sleeves and moved the buttons. I needed the jacket altered right away, and she was able to get it done the same afternoon. Terry did a great job. I bought a Hugo Boss suit for my boyfriend. The hem is unfinished and the waist needs to be brought in. I would bring this to her to alter, because I know I can trust her to make it fit perfectly. I come in that day, and she searches around for 5 or more minutes but can't find the pants. She takes down my number and says she'll call. No call three days later, so I call. I was a loyal customer when the old owners were around and I've tried to go back twice but both times, the tailoring was off and she tried to blame it on me saying that my arms were different lengths. I was surprised at how brilliantly my clothing turned out after tailoring my clothes. My dad had come back from Europe with 4 jackets for me and my sister. My sister ended up giving me her jackets and it turned out that two of them were horridly large. I went to New Economy Laundry to fix them without any experience as to what should be fixed and she just pinned away. After such a great experience, I went back with a rather odd piece. I had found a great vintage piece that was handmade by a non-professional/non-label. It was a jean dress with a strange tail in the back that I wanted to fix. I walked in and she remembered me exactly and was glad that I had such an interesting piece. She charged me $6 for the dress, which was exceptionally cheap and it fits brilliantly. I am very pleased with the service, the level of craftsmanship, and the prices of this place. I would recommend it to anybody with a normal or strange piece of clothing. read more
