I brought in a new dress for hemming. When it was returned, the blue color was uneven and darker on the top of the dress than the bottom. As much as I liked the couple of times I used their dry cleaning services, I can't use them anymore because they're never open when they say they are. Their hours on their website, Google, Yelp, and posted on their front door are all inconsistent. I've gone to try to drop off clothes 3 times in the last 2 months when *the paper taped to their door* said they were open and they weren't open (and each time was 1 to 2 hours before the paper said they were supposed to close). After trying a number of dry cleaners in the Oakland/Berkeley area, I've settled on AZ as my favorite. They show a level of expertise about clothing beyond just tag-wash-n-bag. For instance, they've done excellent work to remove spots and spills without damaging the garment. They seem to take real interest in the customer experience. For instance, making recommendations about when they're more and less busy so that pick ups and drop off are easy, in and out affairs. Their turnaround times have been well within my needs, and they've offered to be faster in case I needed extra speed. After trialing several others, AZ is becoming my long term go-to!! read more

I have a terrible experience with this local dry cleaning business. Despite their well-done cleaning, the inconsistent hours of operation made it a nightmare to pick up my clothes. I have to make multiple trips to retrieve my dry cleaning, wasting my time and money. Today I came by at 3:20pm, before their 4pm posted closing and they were again closed! Come on! read more

They aren't going to be able to do anything for pet urine on wool upholstery, just wish they had notified me earlier instead of the day of pickup, almost a week after. Glad I sprayed with enzyme cleaner prior, so I will just need to spot clean with water at the enzyme ring. read more

I've been to this place a few times and 3x of those times the place was closed during their noted business hours. It's very unreliable. A couple of weeks ago, I was asked to come back on a Wednesday to pick up my pants that I had altered and needed the next day and when I showed up at 1:30 pm, they were closed even though the sign says open until 4 pm. Today (Saturday), I showed up at 2 pm and they were not open. It's very frustrating because why have business hours when you don't follow them? read more

Welp. This cleaner managed to get half of my clothes clean. I guess that's pretty good if the business is a clothes storage facility. Unfortunately, this is a cleaner - a place where you expect to have all of your clothes cleaned. I had a look over my clothes before paying and noticed that only 2 of the 4 pieces had been cleaned. When I pointed to the spots that were the only reason for bringing in the clothes and had not been cleaned, the attendant said, "I don't care". I asked for a refund. Surprise, he said, "No". I paid my $55 for 2 pieces of clean clothes and left. read more

Wow! Tina is the best. And this is going to be a LONG review because I have so much to say about her talents. She's altered three dresses for me - a bridesmaid dress, white cocktail dress and wedding gown. I love seeing her and discussing alteration and dress ideas with her. She is definitely my go-to-tailor. I'm very petite and I am always in need of alterations. I'm smaller than a 00 and know that I'll need a few inches taken in EVERYWHERE... from the bust, the waist, the hips, the length... It's a bit of work to get a dress tailored to me and Tina knows just what to do. And... She knows the fabric, alterations, and styles that would work best on my body. She also takes into consideration the styles that are true to me. The first dress she tailored for me was for my best friend's wedding. (See Miso's review below.) It was a blue chiffon bridesmaid dress size 0 that felt at least 3 sizes too big. She did an amazing job and I think I remember her completing it in a short time frame. I was already engaged at the time and was very impressed with my experience with her that I felt so comfortable and excited to begin discussing wedding gowns for myself. On the day I picked up the bridesmaid dress, we began brainstorming my wedding gown ideas and looked through my pinterest board. She gave valuable advice on which dresses would and would not be best for my body type with her knowledge on how fabric moves and drapes on the body. She was already developing an idea of styles I gravitated towards. The second dress was a white pencil dress that she fit perfectly to my slim silhouette and was able to tailor it to flatter my slight curves. Tina is AMAZING!!! She knows where to make modifications to work with your body and will let you know when something is not possible. I love her honesty and quiet nature. I always enjoy seeing her. Finally... My wedding gown. We actually met a few times to discuss my dress. She understood that I was interested in both an avant garde dress to a more classic simple lined silhouette. One option was to take my pencil dress and add a sculptural detachable skirt to it, or a more gauzy overlayed look to elongate the form. She even went with me to the thrift shop a few doors down to take a look at used dresses as material. She really took the time to work with me on both my look and budget. In the end, I went with a Nicole Miller gown from The Wedding Party in Berkeley. We moved the wedding date 4 months earlier than previously expected so we had to move FAST! Tina was already so busy with other clients, but she made sure my gown would be ready for me as well as all the other items I dropped off... the grooms tie to be altered to a slim tie, an overcoat to be dry cleaned, 3 pants to be shortened.... etc! Oh my, did I give Tina a lot of work to do and I am so THANKFUL to her. I was never worried one bit about any detail in this department of the wedding preparation. She even helped me with what type of jewelry would be best to fit my look on my special day. She took into account my petite size, my short hair, my style, and how comfortable I would be. AND!!! She not only listens and understands to what I like, but understands who I am... I feel like she knows me. For instance, she knew it wouldn't be a big deal that my gown would probably be dirty by the end of the day from trailing on the ground. Which reminds me. I should drop off my dress to get cleaned!! I have been to AZ Alterations for dry cleaning twice. The first time, they did an excellent job for a reasonable price. The second time, I showed up with a satin blend dress that had wine stains on it. He said that he couldn't get it out without ruining the fabric but recommended I go home and soak the dress in cold water without scrubbing and it would lift out. This method worked! I appreciated that he took the time to help me figure out a solution with no agenda. Highly recommend this place. read more

You know when you walk into a place and you get a weird feeling? Trust it. I should have walked right out when I saw this was not an alterations place first and foremost - the dry cleaners are in the front and the alteration room is tiny and in the back. From the beginning I felt rushed along and there was no sense of privacy. A man came in while I was still doing fittings (I brought in two dresses and two pairs of pants) and I overheard the woman who was helping me (who kept running out at every sound of the doorbell) say to him that she was helping me and could he come back in five minutes? Perfectly acceptable, but I still had two pairs of pants to deal with. That's at least ten minutes. When he came back, I heard her tell him that "the girl's still in there, I'm not sure why...". Hmm, maybe it's because we're not done yet. The door to the fitting room was open and some man came by (not sure if it was the same guy who was waiting) and could see them doing the fitting. NOT OKAY. That door should have been closed. They didn't value my business so I left. Sadly, she was the most human when I explained to her that I was taking my things elsewhere. Too late! read more

I had a dress and a pair of jeans altered here and the service was prompt and professional (dropped off Monday, picked up Friday). I also got my guy's suit drycleaned along with a blouse of mine. My total bill was under $50, including the alterations (the dress was the most expensive). I'd go back for the alterations, definitely. I have learned that you have to really be specific when dry cleaning ANY garment at any dry cleaners. I was under the impression that they took in a dirty piece of clothing and before they put the plastic on it they looked it over to see if it was actually clean. Not so much. You can't just take in a coat and expect them to find the areas that need cleaning...you have to say, there's dirt on this sleeve, a stain on the belt and makeup on the collar. Point it out to them when you drop it off.. AZ also required some detailed attention but they ended up doing great work. I took in a silk dress and they said that they cleaned it as well as they could. The tule area was yellow...I had them do it again and said that it didn't look like it was fully cleaned. They did it again at no charge and I when I went back it was the lovely cream white color as the rest of the dress! For silk...they do good work. Just look it over before you leave. read more

Unfortunately, this place is often closed during it's posted "open hours", which makes it fairly useless as a dry cleaner. The first few times I gave it a pass due to the changing circumstances of the pandemic, but at this point it's time to get it together. I absolutely love this place. First, the woman who works there actually owns her business. Second, she is extremely professional and does an amazing job as a seamstress. She has a good eye for your clothes, is extremely patient, and my clothes have always turned out exactly as I wanted them. Third, she is honest. Once, I took in a sport coat that was a little large for me and had sentimental value, and instead of trying to push business, she gave me an honest opinion about the upside and downside for me to decide on my own. (Despite my decision to not get anything altered that day -- my first time as a customer, btw -- she was still extremely friendly and nice.) Fourth, the place is clean, great dressing room, and the computerized billing system is very transparent. In sum, I cannot recommend her highly enough! Will continue going out of my way just to take my close here because the service is so excellent! read more

I wish I could give a positive review but I can't. I tried finding some way I could give at least 2 stars. My wife took in our daughters 4 dresses and blazer in for dry cleaning. He was told that the armpit area was needing cleaning but overall exterior was spotless. He assured the odor in armpit area would be GONE. Returned to pick up on a Saturday during business hours and door was locked, nobody answered. Had to leave. Returned early following week and door was again locked during business hours. Banged on the door and after several minutes the fellow answered. Brought home the items and immediately my wife gave sniff test and sure enough the armpit area still had odors. Did they just clean the outside? So back my wife goes and after speaking with the owner he said that's the best he could do and that odors don't come out. Really!? Don't accept the items and make a statement you can clean armpit odor and then take money and offer no refund for your failure. I'm a businessman and I would never fathom running my business like this unless my intent was to screw the customer and run my business into the ground. Take no dry cleaning here! read more

If you're looking for a reliable and affordable person to hem your jeans (because you're 5'2" and not about to roll that shit up) this is your spot. I brought in three pairs of pants, picked them up less than one week later and paid under $40 total. I am very satisfied with the results and will definitely be a return customer. Insider tips: Ask for the Yelp discount! In my experience, they don't set appointments for fitting - just show up before 6:00pm. Know that you may be in for a bit of a wait. They're friendly and quick, though, so don't despair. She will ask you what length you like to wear your pants (short, normal, long). Don't be shy, tell her how you wear 'em, and she'll do a beautiful job meeting your needs. Original hems cost more. If you can live with a simple hem, it will save you some cash and you can hardly tell the difference (on denim, that is). read more

Every time I go get something cleaned, the owner has wowed me with her knowledge of everything to do with garment construction and care. She takes the time to explain every little detail of a seemingly straight-forward item and warns you of things that could possibly go wrong. For example, the leather buckles on a rain coat are dyed black in the leather making process, but the edges are raw suede and usually just colored after the fact. Therefore, the edges have a tendency to lose the color because it's not the same dye. And I learn these things each time I bring in something new or different. I don't think I've ever experienced such dedication and thoroughness. read more

I brought in 5 pairs of pants to be hemmed and have the pockets taken out of one. Since I was a first time customer I got a discount (on their website) and paid about $60 total-pretty darn good I thought. Everything was ready within the week. The staff was sweet and they have a dressing room in the back to try on. The sewing quality is very good. Did a nice job. Just a warning for others though-they do pull down your pants as they pin, so make sure to adjust as necessary since most people don't actually wear pants like that. I made sure to tell them what I wanted (yes, even if it took a few tries) and I would say my pants were still hemmed a smidge too short. My old tailor back east would also press my pants and make sure they were all set to wear after hemming (included in the charge). They don't do that here, so I had to then iron them when I got home. It might be a nice touch to get them back wearable. Overall a pretty good job. read more

I have a sweater made of 100% viscose, and after wearing it 4 times I got a hole in the shoulder!?! I dunno how that happened..there must've been loose thread I didn't see when I bought it. For a year I didn't wear it, but kept it because I loved that sweater! Anyway, I came here last week and Tina said because the weave was tight it may be a little difficult but she'd do it for $10. She also said it won't look exactly like it did brand new, but most people are satisfied w/ her work and it was my decision. I said "Ok, you can do it." When I picked up the sweater I was impressed. At first I couldn't find the hole, but once I looked extremely hard I saw where she fixed it. The turn around time was 1 week and the price was very reasonable. The employees were friendly and responsive. The result was perfect for both of my jeans! The staff was friendly and conscientious, and the clothes came back from cleaning looking great. Even a a skirt with complicated draped pleats was handled well. This shop is to the alterations and cleaners industry what Patagonia and REI are to the outdoor gear industry; this is not the absolute cheapest place to have your clothes laundered or altered, but Tina and her staff do excellent work, in a timely manner and standby that work. I have been bringing my cleaning and alterations to AZ every week for over two years and have had only two issues. Each time, Tina investigated the issue to determine what she could do in the future to make sure it didn't happen again, made each issue right, then comped me the cost of the service. I wish every business stood by their work like that. Tina can seem cool on your first visit, but that "coolness" is actually her thinking about what your needs are and how best to service them. For the hippies out there, AZ uses environmentally-friendly dry cleaning practices too. All in all a great service. read more
