I have been a patient of Dr Kalustian for over 10 years and have been extremely happy. He's not only a great doctor but a real gentleman, explaining his exam step by step. He's very thorough and, even when running late, never gives you the sense he's rushing thru an exam. I get my Rx filled at Costco which is much cheaper and has a great selection of frames. But for my eye exam each year, Dr Kalustian is my guy. read more

I was surprised to see so many negative reviews here. I've been going to New England Eyecare for over ten years and have been quite satisfied. My best theory is that happy customers aren't coming to Yelp to review. Also, some of the customer service issues from several years ago are regarding staff that have long since left. Both doctors are thorough and courteous. Cynthia at the front desk is a perfect mix of professionalism and warmth. My only negative would be shared by almost any brick-and-mortar eyeglass store. The prices for frames aren't great if you don't have a vision plan like VSP. But I think they're competitive with businesses of this type. read more

This place misdiagnosed my boyfriend with glaucoma. Freaked us out for no reason and wasted money on seeing a specialist just to find out he had absolutely nothing wrong with his eye. Also the staff is extremely unprofessional. One guy at the front got in an argument on the phone with a customer who had been waiting over a month for her glasses to come in. He told the customer to "ef off" and then hung up on them! The other lady at the front had to tell the man to "be quiet because there are customers in the lobby". He continued to cuss pretty loudly where everyone there could hear. The glasses on the wall there are also super disheveled and it looks like they have a leak on the ceiling. It seems like no one really wants to be there, or do their job. If I were you I would go literally anywhere else. read more

I have been going to this eye dr for a couple of years, but then this past year everything went down hill. I tried to get my allergy drops refilled, they denied it, tried to order more contacts online (paid out of pocket for the contact lens exam) and they denied. Tammy said we would never deny a prescription refill the insurance company probably denied it, I told her that the pharmacy said Dr refused, she then said have my pharmacy call and she will get it approved. (stay tuned) My original contact lens exam appointment I paid out of pocket. They have me one pair to try and I had to order my 2 boxes through them - I called about two months later looking for my contacts - I was told they never ordered them, finally got them 4 months later. I just now tried to order lenses since I am using my last pair and NEEC actually told the contact lens company my prescription expired last year...the same year I got my exam! They also like to cancel and reschedule your appointments without notifying you, or claim that you never called. At one point I spoke to one gentleman that worked there about this and he said he knew who was doing it...and I told him to please make sure no one calls to remind me of my scheduled appointments because I get several calls confirming and changing them! I have chosen another eye dr that I am absolutely thrilled with whom I have discussed these issues with and they can't believe how rude another eye dr can be! STAY AWAY! PS The company that I ordered my contacts from put through my order of 4 boxes not 2 that NEEC tried to restrict me to. The law clearly states that the Dr office is" You must give your patients a copy of their contact lens prescription when the lens fitting is complete." I never received mine! I took my daughter to be fitted for contact lenses at New England Eyecare. We had not been there before and could not have been more pleased with this place. They were professional, courteous, and welcoming. The examining doctor was thorough and diligent. We also ordered an extra pair of glasses since they have a large variety of choices and prices. I would recommend this place to anyone. I must admit we were a little nervous after reading some reviews but our experience could not have been more positive. read more

Worst place EVER!! Avoid-- wish I had read the reviews and avoided them myself. Lies, bait and switch--nothing good to say. Refunded my money after I refused to accept what they offered me (in lieu of what was promised after I spent 49 minutes with the manager confirming all details before I agreed to pay and leave my frames with them in the first place), and after I advised them I'd filed a complaint against them. SCAM - This place should be investigated by the insurance company. Not only are they ripping off the insurance company but they're ripping off the customers too. I was asked for my medical card as well upon making the appointment. After checking in the day of my appointment, the receptionist called me over to give me a disclaimer stating if there is something medical about my visit then that would hit my medical insurance and not my vision, resulting in an additional copay. My visit was for a contact lenses. Nothing medical, only that my prescription to the same contacts I've been wearing for 4 years had run out. I was taken in to see the doctor and thought that everything was normal. I had zero complaints. My eyes don't bother me, I don't have vision problems, and I told him I loved my contacts and they feel great. I guess something about that conversation told him to check and see that I apparently have oily eye lids and he said he'll give me something for that. After he said that, I told him I may rub my eyes at night after taking out my contacts and noticed a little oil but that it's never been an issue. After the exam, before any contact fitting, he takes me to the receptionist to pay my bill. She throws out some astronomical number like $450 that includes 6 months of contacts. After almost laying and egg, I told the receptionist I needed a complete run down of this insane charge. Turns out they charged my medical insurance too apparently because I have "oily eyes" and that was just enough to put something down so it wouldn't seem like a complete lie to the insurance company. Now they get to bill the insurance and I GET TO PAY AN ADDITIONAL COPAY. The contacts that I've been wearing for 4 years and have consistently paid between $25-$35 a box are $65 dollars here. Mind you, I have a $100 allowance with my vision coverage. I ask if they will price match and they won't so then I ask if I can just have my prescription and they said that will cost me $25 for them just to write the prescription and take it without getting my contacts through them. IS THIS LEGAL? There's also a $160 "fitting fee" that they've so kindly given me a discount on so now it's only $80. As she's going through all of these bogus prices and charges I tell her I feel like I've been cornered and this is a scam. She said this is the only way they can compete. They'd already hit my insurance for my eye exam so it's not like I could go elsewhere. I ended up paying close to $200 that day. I'd like to state that I never had a "contact fitting" that I paid $80 for. When I went to pick up my contacts I told them I wanted the $80 back and they tried saying by law they had to charge me... yada yada. He also never gave me the prescription for my apparent oily eyes (wonder why). I strongly discourage anyone from going here. THIS PLACE IS A SCAM. read more

Horrendous customer service!! Took a prescription and frames to them for my daughter who is away at college. First they said they can do it without her but then called back next day and said that they actually need her so I had to drive back and pick up the frames. When daughter came home on break had her go there, she got measured and they took the frames. Then they called the next day and said that they no longer work with that brand of frames and that it does not come out right. Daughter had left back for college by then so I begged them to give it a try, that I would sign a waiver in case it did not come out perfectly but the owner was unbending. If someone said something to me when frames were being dropped off daughter would have had time to go to another place. So now we have to wait for her next break. I reside in Westchester, and I have been going to New England Eye Care in Norwalk for more than eight years. I go there for the warm service that's being offered by Nelson, and the Doctors. Nelson is in charge for the lenses, but he pretty much takes care of the front office as well. On the other hand, There is a person working on the front desk called Tammy. She often forgets my appointment, and she asks me the question "where did you get your eyes checked last year?" I mean, come on, I have been going to this place for a decade. That is a waste of a question to ask a long time customer. Without Nelson Lopez, and Doctor's dedication, that place will not get any customers with the kind of service Tammy has been providing. The management should focus on employees like Nelson who go above and beyond in providing the best service. read more

Avoid!!! From my experience a better name for this business would be New England Eye DON'T CARE!!! Daughter was away at school and had broken her glasses so called in an "urgent" refill of her contact script. Gave them her new address. When they didn't arrive I called back and determined they were shipped to her old address and returned to sender that day. Confirmed they had correct address and asked if they had it why they sent it to her old address and the girl actually said "I shipped it to her old address because it worked the last time" what??? At this point my daughter is out of contacts and was promised they would overnight samples and ship out a new order. Two weeks into this and none of what was promised has happened and my daughter who can't see without them is STILL WITHOUT CONTACTS!!! I've left three messages for Dr. Kraus as I don't think anyone else there is interested in correcting the problem. No call back from him either so assume no one here understands the word "care". Only choice now is to go pay another Doctor for another eye exam and hope we can get our money back for the contacts which have yet to arrive. Like I said AVOID!!! read more

Bought prescription lenses for my Ray-Ban sunglasses at that place. Several times the lenses fell out of the frame ( apparently they were cut too small). They could not solve the problem, refused to take any responsibility, and finally refused to talk to me. Finally I went to another eyewear place (Specs of Darien). They fixed it right away. The team at New England eye-care is phenomenal. Nelson assisted my 5 year old daughter with her first pair of glasses. He let her try on so many pairs, and get comfortable with her decision. We came back a month later for a repair and Nelson was able to complete the work with in 24 hours so my daughter would have them for her first day of school. I recently stopped in to see if I can have my glasses repaired. The women in the front Shawna and Tam were very helpful by showing me options for a new pair. Although I didnt purchase anything, Nelson managed to fix my old glasses in a reasonable amount of time. They were all very helpful and friendly. read more
