I was getting a $16,000 quote from my Periodontist to replace a molar. I made an appointment at Columbia dental in New Haven arrived at 11 o'clock was examined by a very straight shooter Periodontist and walked out in an hour and a half with an insert for $2600. Granted this portion of the work is only a part of what the total bill will be, but it is estimated that the complete bill will be around $7000. The atmosphere may not be she she but the level of competence was unparalleled. I highly recommend this dental practice. read more

Columbia Dental is the worst service of any company I've ever dealt with. I finally received my dentures in January, the lowers broke in July and they refused to fix them unless I paid $250. The dentist accused me of lying and the dentist and receptionist sent me to another dentist. DO NOT GO THERE. read more

Got there on time. Waited an hour to be seen. Overcrowded office, seems like they triple-book appointment times. They tell me my estimate is $81, can I pay it now. Okay, I say, unsure, but it seems reasonable. I pay it. They also ask for my insurance information. I provide it. Two months later, I get a bill for the amount I paid, with no mention of me paying it, and it says my insurance paid $31, and that I owe $50. What? I already paid $81. I call the number on the bill, and she says it's the wrong number for billing, and gives me a new number to call. I call that second number, and it rings and rings, then goes into an automated system where I need a four-digit extension to get someone. There are no other options. I hang up, and call the number of the office I went to. They give me the number on the bill, where the woman said it's the wrong number. She says that is crazy, and tries to help. She says the bill should actually be for $162 (twice the original $81), and I owe at least $50. I tell her that the printed bill overrides whatever she is verbally telling me, legally, and that they can't double-dip. She gets annoyed, and insists I owe at least another $50. None of the math, or the explanations make sense. I tell her that unless I get another printed bill that explains everything she said, I will not be paying this. I also tell her that there are some serious issues in their billing department, including the woman who answered the first phone. read more

I would say just "A-OK". I am a patient because the location is very convenient. The dentist are all very talented but sometimes the front of the house staff is a little unorganized. If you live in New Haven I would recommend this location because it is convenient but I would absolutely make sure to call and confirm your appointment. The wait is usually long. read more

I have been to many dentist and hands down this place was the best that I have been too! From the front desk to the dental assistant to the actual dentist was amazing. The doctor was very honest and explained everything to me . They all were very friendly and made sure I was not uncomfortable at any moment when I got my tooth pulled out. The doctor kept asking if I was okay and if I was in pain just let him know. I am so happy that I found an amazing dental practice and I won't be going anywhere else! Some services are great, others not so much. My cleaning didn't seem as thorough as other cleanings in the past and they misdiagnosed five cavities (I only had two in reality). The dental filings were done efficiently and well. But: if you are booking at least weekday afternoon, be prepared to waste your life away waiting for your appointment. I got here at 12:40 for my 1pm appointment and it is now 2:30. People are sleeping around me. So disrespectful of our time! read more

I had a good experience here with a routine cleaning. It was easy to make an appointment and get the time and day I wanted. There is free parking and their hours are flexible. The overall staff is courteous and friendly. Dr. Mei Dong took very good care of my teeth and gave me good advice. I could tell she is someone who genuinely cares and loves what she does. read more

I am not returning to this dental practice after having a tooth infection, having a wisdom tooth removed, and then four cavities filled. The customer service at this practice is obviously not a priority. There are a few people who were extremely kind and made an effort to make me comfortable, but in general the staff was not friendly or helpful. During both my wisdom tooth extraction and my cavity filling, the dentists did not explain to me thoroughly what was happening or what to expect from each procedure. They also did not seem to know my medical allergies (though I had told multiple staff members multiple times). They also did not know about my previous appointments at their own establishment (my surgeon was unaware that I had a tooth infection the week before that brought me in to get my tooth pulled and therefore did not give me enough antibiotics). I had to ask questions to get any kind of information about procedures since no information was offered to me. Both the surgeon and the dentist seemed extremely rushed and as though they wanted to get me out of there as fast as possible. The one good thing I will say is that their hours are flexible and you can get an appointment on the weekends. read more

Wow, Sunday hours. Awesome. Shame that I had to wait 45 minutes after my appt time (and I arrived 15 minutes early) and the cleaning was awful. i.e they didnt clean all my teeth and polished only those that are visible to other people. The dentist was abrasive and brash. If you like having bad cleanings and awkward conversation after waiting nearly and hour followed by a 5 minute consultation with the dentist then this is the place for you. I will be finding a new place and having my teeth cleaned properly in the next month because its like i never went. read more

Dr. Patel has the best chairside manner. He attends to his patients with kindness and respect. My husband and I were quickly accomodated during dental emergencies. The place does need some updates however, the dentist and staff make it a star place for us. I needed to have major tooth removal surgery and have upper and lower dentures made, I was told we could do it in November of 2015 because my dental insurance .. then do the dentures in January ..which THEY verified was from January to January, Now Here I am in January of 2016 after having my teeth removed and all of a sudden...we made a mistake .your policy is from September to September so no coverage for my needed dentures, this comes after cancelling my two previous appoints already this month and rescheduling i had an appointment tomorrow but now that they discovered I have no coverage they want me to wait till September with no teeth.... ill dig up the cash for the dentures BUT it will NOT be Columbia getting any. Let me just say, Columbia Dental on Prince Street in New Haven CT is the absolute best dentist that I've been to as an adult! Going in today I became very nervous, shaking uncontrollably and my dental assistant Kat was the most amazing soul, she was able to calm me down by telling me everything was ok, and she would stay with me through the process to make sure that I was good! Dr. Jay Hwang was absolutely amazing at getting my infected tooth out which mind you took about an hour, he kept asking if I was ok, and I can't say thank you enough, if all our medical professionals were just like these two amazing people then our health system would be amazing, thank you for making an uncomfortable situation more bearable Dr Jay, and Kat you are an amazing dental assistant, thank you for being you! So far... I been waiting 45 minutes since my appointment time!! The office isn't bad and if they could stick within a 15 min. window of calling you for service then I wouldn't have a problem on the on set!! I'll update this review after my appointment today!! ***UPDATE*** I waited for 1 1/2 hours in total in the lobby and still no call to see the dentist!! I spoke with receptionist and 2 other staff about how unacceptable it was to wait soooo long stop and not even been call back yet!! They weren't rude or dismissive!! Just collectively very unprofessional!! I felt I showed great patience and to not to be at least in the dentist's chair was too much!! The quality of the dental work has been more than satisfactory. My in office experience has been as follows, after getting an examination, I was given a written estimation which detailed my cost and the amount that my insurance is responsible for paying. I usually pay my portion by credit card. I payed anywhere from 50%-75% at time of each service with my insurance being billed accordingly. I have never failed to pay my portion at each visit. Things fall apart afterwards. Their billing has been sloppy , incomplete, missing information. Phone calls to clarify have become confrontational and lacking in providing information. Incorrect or incomplete billing to my insurance company has been an ongoing problem. Columbia Dental is on my list of insurance providers. read more

I wish I could give zero stars. I will never come back here. I had severe tooth pain so I went in. I was told I needed three teeth out, and they wanted to take them all at once. Two, I was told, were wisdom teeth. The third was a molar that was cracked in front of a wisdom tooth. The dentist I had I could barely understand, spent 0 time explaining ANYTHING to me. And said she was going to set me up with an oral surgeon. I wasn't even ASKED what day/time would be convenient. I was given an appointment for two freaking weeks later! On a day/time that was very inconvenient and no one would listen to me when I tried to ask for a different day. I'm a full time single mom of a toddler and it's hard to find someone besides my mom to take my son all day so I can have what I was TOLD was going to be oral surgery. The day of my "surgery" arrived and I showed up, after not eating or drinking all morning as I assumed I'll be anesthetized, to be told that not only am I NOT going to be anesthetized, they are just going to give me novacaine and rip three teeth out. I was beside.myself with fear and started to cry and no one even asked me if I was okay. I stood up, announced that I was leaving and that there was no way in hell I was going to let those butchers in my mouth and left, cursing all the way out of the waiting room and into the hallway. Ten minutes later I located another office that took emergency walk ins across town. Dr. Spatz was kind, helpful and took very good care of me. Oh! Btw, only one of the teeth ended up being a wisdom tooth and it DOESN'T EVEN NEED TO COME OUT!!! read more

I made 2 appointments and when I arrived and my appointments both were never made but I even had a card to show them that I made one. My thought ok no big deal people make mistakes..... then I make a appointment for a CONSULTATION to get my wisdom teeth out... she pulls them out on the spot without talking about it nothing.... Then just walks out doesn't give me paper work or tell me anything that I have to do to take care of the holes in my mouth.... 1 week later still have pain.... Tells me that I have a dry socket... Very unprofessional and disorganized. The male receptionist kept talking to another patient the whole time I was trying to check in. He asked me if I had my insurance card and ID. I told him my insurance info was already in the system yet he never asked to see my ID.hmmmmm.. Then i was brought in(thought I had an appt to see the oral surgeon) only to find out I was only seeing a regular dentist who seemed quite unsure of herself and was quite inept at explaining things to me. After I left I noticed that I had a voice mail message...mind you my appt was at 4:30 pm and I arrived early...was taken in pretty much on time. The message was from Columbia Dental at 4:45 pm asking if I was still going to keep my appt..ummm..yeah..I was in with your "dentist" at the time. And, I love all kinds of music but I don't think WYBC on the radio is the most relaxing music to listen to while having dental work done. Will never go back... read more
