Clock wise.... Garlic naan, Butter Chicken, Chana Masala, Chicken Tikka Masala, Vegetable Korma

So delicious! I was so excited for an Indian food place in Martinez, and it's right off the freeway! The business owners are the nicest people, the customer service was excellent. The owner was very thorough and made sure we got what we wanted. It's a small cozy little place, nice and quiet and enjoyable. The FOOD! Absolutely knocked it out of the park. We got ( and we will be back to try the whole menu...) Garlic Naan, Chicken Tikka Masala, Chana Masala, vegetable Korma, and Butter chicken. And I feel like it's pretty affordable as far as restaurants go. I'm not used to eating out AND being satisfied these days! Highly recommend !!

First off, I called in my order and totally got side tracked and realized they had already closed, so I called them and the owner Navi or Avi answered and said, no problem we still have your order if you still want it you can come pick it up. So I sped on down and picked it up. Upon arriving I met Navi and immediately apologized again and thanked him for allowing me to grab my food after closing hours. Now, onto the food. I ordered your standard butter chicken and garlic naan. The butter chicken was delicious. It was rich, creamy and velvety. They even threw in extra chicken at no additional charge. The garlic naan was soft, bubbly and buttery. Oh, and Navi even gave me a free mango lassi! Such a cool guy. I will definitely be going back again and trying everything else on the menu. The interior is small, maybe a dozen tables, but I wasn't expecting much because I use to go there when it was Acme Express. I'm so glad we finally have a good Indian restaurant nearby. Thanks again Navi! We will be visiting again soon.

Just opened and wanted to try. Always enjoy me some nan and tiki masala. Service was done quick and fresh. Garlic Nan was nice. Friendly and I assume family owned.

The food is outstanding! We eat Indian food pretty regularly, usually twice a month or so, and this just became my new favorite spot. Highly recommend getting a chaat, we had the samosa chaat and the chutney is the best I have ever had. The spice level was just right and the dish was flavorful & fresh. The Shahi paneer was also amazing, the creamy tomato sauce was perfection. Everything we had was great, I am already looking forward to going back.

We arrived around 8 PM and were welcomed with the same warm, energetic greeting you'd expect at opening time. Kumar, a young host, was absolutely the friendliest -- such a pleasant start to the evening. We ordered a bunch of dishes: veg fried rice (delicious), dal makhani (yum), jeera rice, a vegetable curry, garlic naan, pakodas (yum), chai, and mango lassi. But the standout was the veg chowmein -- it was bomb. It became everyone's favorite instantly and was the first dish cleared from the table. We even met one of the cooks who was super sweet. Bless you guys for being so amazing. This is seriously some of the best food around -- I'll definitely be back for those chowmein. Highly recommend!

Their popular items like the chicken tikka and tandoori chicken were already running low. They maybe refilled only once while we were seated and we probably would've eaten more if they refilled more frequently. Their naan is made fresh to order and you can choose between regular, butter, or garlic. I recommend the garlic naan! Chai tea is also included but you have to ask for it. Parking is free as well. Overall, worth trying and would probably go earlier than later when the food is full and fresh!

I did wanna mention that we sat outside in the back patio. It's really nice back there. I sometimes forget it's back there. They've done a really good job on renovating the place. My friend and I walked 16 minutes because we were starving and didn't have a car. The reviews looked decent, so we figured it was worth the trek. As we got closer, however, we ended up on a street with a smell that could only be described as a warning sign from the universe. I told my friend, "If the restaurant is on this street, I'm not going in." Naturally, it was. My friend convinced me to at least give it a chance. We walked inside, and while the smell wasn't quite enough to send me running, it definitely wasn't helping build confidence. My friend was fine with it. Later I realized she was simply too tired to walk anywhere else. I ordered the lamb biryani, and she ordered the butter chicken. We also got what was advertised as a green salad. Calling it a green salad felt generous--it was more of an onion convention with a few green leaves attending as guests. The food arrived, and I was so hungry that I would have eaten almost anything at that point. I started enthusiastically. Then something magical happened: as soon as my hunger went away, so did my desire to continue eating. The butter chicken was the biggest mystery of the evening. It tasted nothing like butter chicken. In fact, I'm still trying to solve the case. Was it chicken? Was it butter? Was it an entirely new life form? The world may never know. The lamb biryani wasn't terrible, but it wasn't memorable either. The most memorable part of the meal was trying to figure out what exactly we were eating. There were only two other occupied tables, and they looked just like us--hungry tourists who had followed the reviews and were now silently reevaluating their life choices. As we left, my Indian friends' advice finally came back to me: "If you walk into an Indian restaurant and there are no Indian customers, keep walking." Sadly, my brain remembered this valuable life lesson only after I had already met the world's most mysterious butter chicken. Some lessons are learned the hard way. Others are learned 16 minutes from your hotel while carrying a to-go box you know you're never going to open. On the bright side, the walk there and back counted as cardio, and I left with a story that was more satisfying than the meal. for the adventure. for the food.

The buffet doesn't change much, but I tell you, we were there this afternoon, and I can't imagine a better combination of tastes than what I had: 3 each of the small fish pakoras and the fried chickpea flour ones; a portion of tasty white rice; a delicious cup of yellow dal; and a goodly portion of goat curry. All of this along with the yummy Naan that was brought to out table. Sargam is a tried and true venue for us (We go back a couple of decades and have dined there with so many friends over the years I probably can't even remember them all. If you're anywhere near Walnut Creek, give it a try! (Have a look at the many photos of the food. I only have one to share today of the establishment at night. We also often take home a Mixed Tandoori Grill platter, which combines many tasty kinds of meat, and goes a long way!)

We'd been there once, years ago, and couldn't really remember it much. We walked in and waited a solid 5 minutes (or more) for someone to come to the front acknowledge us, and there were others waiting as well. We assumed that they must be very busy, but they only had a few tables of customers. The atmosphere wasn't nice, but it was ok. We didn't expect fine dining vibes. There were no table cloths, and a mint green paint job which matched the color of the napkins. We ordered the "vegetarian feast" and also the butter chicken; we wanted to sample different items and probably bring home leftovers. The first thing that came out was the chai tea, which was fine. After a little wait, the samosas arrived. The samosas were delicious, and we agreed that they were the best we'd ever had. The two sauces they served with the samosas were also very tasty. Unfortunately, that was the last great thing about our experience at Sargam. The wait for the rest of the food was quite long. We weren't in a hurry, but it was definitely longer than should be acceptable at a restaurant. (All in all we were there for about 90 minutes). When the food finally came out, one of the items was missing from the vegetarian feast (the "two naris"). We didn't notice until later that we never got this item. The food's taste was average. Perhaps below average for the Indian food in the Bay Area. The chicken was not very tender but it wasn't terrible. We ordered the food "medium spicy" but there was zero spice. Also, the temperature wasn't as hot as it should be. Most of the items were almost luke warm. The nan wasn't anything special. It wasn't as tasty (or warm) as it is at most places we've been to. At the end, we were supposed to get two desserts, according to the menu's description (photo attached) of the vegetarian feast. They never came. We wrapped up our leftovers and I asked the woman (who seemed to be the manager), who had taken our order and also brought us our check, if we were going to get the desserts. She gave me a horrible look. She looked as if I had said something terrible, and acted like she had no idea what we were talking about. I explained that the dessert was on the menu as part of the "vegetarian feast". We waited about five more minutes and no dessert came out. I decided to pay and leave; we were full anyway. Sargam has "acceptable" food and ambience, long waits, and bad service with missing items. Also, they added a "service fee" of 3.5% to the check (which was not mentioned anywhere on the menu). Weird. I wanted to like it. We won't be back.
