This store is beautiful! I've been in the grocery business for 33 years now retired and have seen and worked in many stores. I look at different things I'm told. We moved around easily without bumping into things. I got to talk with a couple employees and they were very helpful but the fellow taking great care of the beer was the best, taking the time to explain the layout of the beer case and giving some helpful advice. All the departments were well stocked and face-up. The floors and glass doors were clean. Living in Salinas which is 35 miles away we don't have anything at this level of grocery. Because it's not sustainable. Good job New Leaf. Last words...70 miles round trip.

A man holding a dog with its behind directly over the hot bar. NEVER SHOP HERE.

My original review still stands - they have NOT improved or changed their dog policy. They need to have a docent at the front door to tell people ABSOLUTELY NO DOGS. Do you like dog farts on your food? Do you like dog hair in your food? If so, go to New Leaf's salad bar! If not, go elsewhere. The level of entitlement that New Leaf enables among its customers is DISGUSTING. If you care about your health, or want to patronize a business that isn't scared to hold its customers accountable, DO NOT SHOP HERE! This was the last straw for me to be quite honest. I left my grocery cart and walked straight out. For PROOF, please look at the attached photo. What they let fly here is ridiculous.

My friend told me about the poke at new leaf and it's soo good! The ahi and salmon is fresh and the selection is reliable. They have good sides as well to pair the poke. It was efficient, easy. and more importantly yummy! Definitely will be going back when i crave poke.

I got a honey latte and it's so amazing! The ladies were incredibly sweet, give them a try if you haven't yet! Also if you haven't been to the new leaf, you are MISSING out. It's a beautiful store with many amazing employees

The new store Poke Station at the store is amazingggg!!!

I have been shopping at New Leaf for 20 years. I'll admit I was a bit hesitant about their moving to a larger location. However, I was absolutely blown away by how beautiful the store is and how absolutely well thought everything is!! I've never had such an easy time finding what I need at any other grocery store I've shopped at. What I have always appreciated is the quality of the products and the people that work at New Leaf grocery stores. They work with local produce and dairy farmers. They bring in fresh bread from local bakeries like Companion Bakery. There is a level of commitment to the community that I really appreciate, as each time I shop I can choose to donate to local non profits. There always a chart up to see what they donated and how much. The employees are great people, and over the years I have made friends with many of them. The old store was sweet, and I loved it. The new store somehow managed to take it to a whole other amazing level. You can tell they went all out to make sure the store surpassed the communities expectations. I give it 20 out of 5 stars and look forward to shopping for another 20 years!! Thanks New Leaf for always doing such a tremendous job!!

We were having trouble finding what needed and it happened to be in one of those aisles. There was a very kind person working who noticed us and stopped to come help. He was amazing! He was willing to stay with us until we found everything we needed. He didn't seemed rushed and he was happy to help. The store also offers an Amazon returns kiosk. The cashier that checked us out was friendly and helpful. Overall the best thing about the store is the people working there. They made the difference in the experience!

Butcher Counter at 41st Location is a Problem: The rest of…read morethis Whole Foods is genuinely great, and the staff throughout the store are friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, the butcher counter is a serious weak spot -- both in quality and service. On the craft side, the butchering is sloppy. The NY strip steaks are being cut from the nerve end of the loin, which any skilled butcher knows should be repurposed rather than sold as premium full strips. The pork chops have the same problem -- end cuts with that ragged, uneven "cap" where the muscle narrows are being sold right alongside uniform center-cut chops, at the same price, with no distinction made. These aren't nitpicky complaints; they're basic standards that a full-service butcher counter should meet. With one notable exception (there's one guy there who's actually great - tall, Caucasian, ~30 YOM), the service ranges from indifferent to actively rude. Expect to be ignored before anyone acknowledges you. If you order half a pound of ground beef, they'll grab two-thirds of a pound and start wrapping without asking, then get an attitude if you point it out. Ask for two pork chops and you might get one that's half the size of the other. Request specific pieces from the case and you'll be treated like you're being difficult. The biggest issue for me: they wrap chicken directly in butcher paper without a plastic bag first. I learned this the hard way when chicken juice leaked all over my refrigerator overnight. That's not just sloppy -- it's a food safety problem. I want to support this store, and I genuinely enjoy shopping there. But the butcher counter's combination of poor technique and poor service means I won't shop here if I need to buy meat. It's a real shame.

If you ever imagined what a friendly urban NY do-it-all local market with deli, butcher, coffee…read morestation, and ethnic selection would look like, then AJ's Market at the Chevron gas station in Soquel will completely change how you think about convenience stores. Yes, they have gas and a car wash, but that is just the beginning. Inside, there is a gourmet kitchen serving up locally harvested seafood and Harris Ranch meats. The burger here is hands down one of the best in the county. It is technically fast food, but nothing like what you would expect from that term. AJ's goes way beyond typical gas station fare. You will find organic produce and treats from around the world like English biscuits, real maple syrup, and a Southeast Asian spice rack. They also offer an impressive selection of local wines, baked goods, ice creams, and coffees. Owner Akhtar Javed, originally from Pakistan, opened the market in 1987 after falling in love with Santa Cruz. He became a local legend after the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake when he let customers take what they needed and pay later during the power outage. AJ's Market is a true gem and worth the stop whether you need gas or not. P.S. AJ also carries dried cuttlefish so you don't have to travel to San Jose or find a Ranch 99. P.P.S. In addition to the coffee station, they also had a full cooler of Marianne's Ice Cream!

But right afterward we came to Sunnyside Produce and the difference was night and day. That contrast made me realize how important it is to give credit where it's due, especially after calling out bad service somewhere else. Sunnyside absolutely deserves praise. From the moment we walked in we were met with kind helpful people who were actually attentive and happy to assist. There was no attitude or indifference, just friendly efficient service. The team here clearly cares about what they do and about the customers walking through the door. The produce is fresh vibrant and well-organized, with a great mix of organic and local options that are thoughtfully stocked. Everything looked clean and cared for from the shelves to the displays, and it made shopping here feel relaxed and enjoyable. The prices are solid too, better than most other local places when you factor in the quality. It does not feel overpriced, and you actually leave with the sense that you got value for your money. What stood out the most to me is the atmosphere. This place has a soul. You are not just shopping, you are being welcomed. That is rare. After our visit I felt like this review needed to be written not just to balance out a negative one, but because Sunnyside Produce genuinely deserves recognition for doing things right. If you are looking for a place with real service, real food, and real people, this is it.
