I could see they were very short staff BUT man this gentleman was so extremely rude to me. First he said "you can go ahead and bag your own groceries, see the bags???" OK. I thought he is having a bad day. I proceeded to bag my things and asked him if he could double check to see if an item had been rung up with the sale price. He told me "you can look yourself!!." I have been shopping at the Capitola location on a daily basis for 30 years. Where we live in Capitola, traffic has made this location the only real option after 1pm. It is also the only grocery store that can safely be approached from my neighborhood by bicycle, which I now use 90% of the time. For the first 25 years I shopped here, the staff were like family, and checkout lines were always well managed and staffed as well as can be expected. Since then, the decline gets more rapid every year. As in every year the store gets twice as bad as it was the year before. There are so many problems now that are too numerous to list here, but two things stand out as things that are about to prevent me from shopping here anymore. Checkout line staffing is criminal. The good checkers are never working the lines, and there are rarely more than 2 lines open. This could sometimes work except the checkers that are used now are ridiculously slow (and one is beyond rude), AND there are almost never baggers so the slow checkers are even slower. Often times there is only the one rude checker working, with no bagger. I cannot tolerate bad behavior and bad service at the same time. Buying alcohol now forces us to use the bad checkout lines, so I have actually stopped buying alcohol entirely there now, and make CVS next door my second stop. The second problem is that complaining to managers who no longer know me, and tell me there is nothing they can do about the situation, and that I need to contact corporate is maddening. Their job is to take my complaints and relay them to corporate. That is not my job. Unfortunately I believe them when they tell me it is out of their hands which brings us to Raley's responses I have seen here on Yelp. I have seen several responses to Yelp reviews from Raley's like this. "We truly apologize for the unprofessional service that you experienced by our employees at our store. Nob Hill strives itself on world class customer service and this is far from a positive representation of that. Please be assured that I will forward your case to the Store Director for an immediate resolution." Raley's/Nob Hill absolutely no longer prides itself on customer service, let alone "world class customer service". This is clearly passing the buck. It is time for corporate management to step up and actually do their jobs and fix this problem. read more

Great Thanksgiving meal ordered from Deli! Good price and what said it would feed 2 to 4 people actually was plenty to eat again the next day for 3 of us.. Gravy and cranberry sauce yummy. Only negative was green beans. The fresh beans provided were not trimmed nicely and it said to microwave even though they were in an aluminum pan. I too have been shopping here for nearly 20 years. While I still love the store for a lot fo reasons, I am frustrated with it for some of the same reasons James outlined. First, I know exactly the cashier of whom he writes. When self checkout was first introduced I vowed not to use it because I wanted to support the cashiers whose jobs were being replaced. And then, we were left with her. She is miserable. I dislike interacting with her so much I use self checkout as she is often the only cashier. There used to be so many lovely personalities. We were literally on a first name basis. And now there are two gentlemen left who are wonderful. Amazing customer service, personable, welcoming. Gone are most baggers if not all. Gone is the service of taking your groceries to your car; which wasn't just a much appreciated convenience, but an opportunity to connect with people in your community, like the bagger who saved my toddler from unknowingly backup into a moving car. Those are relationships and customer loyalty that Nob Hill has lost. What has diminished is the feeling of being your local grocery store where you were sure to remember the name of your cashier and know at least one personal detail about them. The positives are that the prices are generally much better than Safeway and the vibe no where near as sketchy not even at closing. The store is clean and products well placed. Sushi area is great. Produce is good. The fresh meat counter service is still pretty good. Some of the in-store coupon deals are good, but navigating the app while shopping is a pain. Nob Hill will always be my first choice grocery store. But at the risk of sounding old, I miss the days when customer service was a number one priority. I love Nob Hill! The store is clean and well organized. They have a very good produce department and you have an option to have all organic if you want. they have many baked goods in the beginning of the store and wonderful types of breads. The store is very well stocked with everything you need. It's easy to check out with the option of self check out which I like to do. And they have nice clean bathrooms, which many stores don't provide nowadays I give this place an A+. read more

Mixed review. Excellent cruelty free products, very poor customer service. The Chobani dairy free coffee creamer was on an end cap display, except there were NO prices. I asked the young man working there how much the Chobani creamer was. ( I highly recommend the hazelnut, and caramel) He replied, " yes, the Chobani creamer!" To which I said, " yes, the Chobani creamer!" I figured he was confused and didn't know which product I was referring to. I was clearly wrong. As I stood there waiting he rudely said, " what about it?". I responded by saying, " again, how much is the Chobani creamer?" I literally opened the refrigerator door and pointed. He said, " oh, the price is over there ". He pointed to an entirely different display, in a separate refrigerator about 20 feet away. He stood there and expected me to walk over. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect an item to have a clear price and if it doesn't, the worker should not be indignant about informing a customer of the price . On a completely different isle, again, more products with no prices marked, anywhere! This is now a trend. In conclusion, I am grateful to see healthier cruelty free products available such as dairy free and plant based products. I am disappointed that the customer service has gone down the tank and shows no sign of stopping. I live 2 minutes from this store and the workers are usually rude, indignant, ignorant, ghetto, and unhelpful. This use to be a nicer store but now it's turned into the ghetto bodega where you get in and out quick. It's the employees making it this way. They have the worst attitudes. I eat a lot of veggies, I love the selection, I don't love that they spray the organic area with some type of soap or chemical that gets all over the veggies so unless you scrub them, you cannot eat the outer layer - cabbage, chard, etc. - I've had this issue multiple times now and talked to one of the managers and they insist nothing is sprayed yet I've had this as has another family member that shops here. Was in there yesterday. In the vitamin section. Two women were working in the aisle. They were taking things off the shelves and putting things on the shelves. I was looking for vitamin B complex gummy's which I had purchased several times before. I actually looked up and down the shelves for 15 minutes. The gals seemed to not want to get in my way. But guess what? Neither of them asked me if I wanted some help. Listen up. Retail jobs are shrinking because corporations are forcing customers to do self checkout. I ordered the vitamins from Amazon. I'm not going to support local businesses if their employees don't give a hoot about customer service. I get it. You are not on the register but you are on the sales floor. The blonde one seemed particularly stuck up and full of herself. Have seen her many times walking around the store with a bad attitude. It seems like the other gal was taking her lead and just ignoring customers. If I had seen a manager or a person in charge I would have said something. This is the store I go to pretty much every day for the last 20 years. I do have a small fridge so that does explain things. The produce section is pretty good, but I think Whole Foods and the big Safeway at the end of 41st Avenue are a bit better. I don't like the fact that the only signs on the produce are the little price stickers with the barcodes on them, on the edges of the shelf. I can't read that stuff it's too small, and frankly, I'm not sure of the difference between a turnip or a parsnip, or a Guajillo versus an ancho chili. I wish they would carry omega-3 eggs but they don't. I like their meat department. The people are friendly, and it seems very clean and well-maintained. I trust the quality there for the most part with one small exception. The bone I have to pick with this store is how they deal with restocking, especially with refrigerated items. I've personally witnessed giant dollies stacked high with perishable, fresh meats and frozen foods which need to be refrigerated, or frozen, some of which are "uncured" sitting in the isles of the store, not being loaded into the cool cases, not being loaded into the freezer, nobody's doing anything with it, for at least 30 minutes. And mind you: this was there when I arrived, so who knows how long it had actually been sitting there before I got there. I've had circumstances where I purchased some fresh chicken in the butcher case and it's good for days after the sell by date, smells great looks great everything is great, and then with the same brand, the same product, I get the package home, and it's already beginning to turn, or at least not smell as fresh as many of the other packages I bought, And I get to the sell by date for that particular package and it smells like it's gone bad already. Makes me wonder if that was one of those situations where the pallet was left sitting out in the aisle for half an hour, an hour, or maybe more with no one attending to it, and the meat slowly turning "not so fresh anymore" as it comes up to room temperature from being neglected. This isn't an isolated incident nor was it just something once upon a time in the past. I observed this years ago and I continue to observe it on occasion even to this day, in April 2023. I don't really see what the big deal is with loading the pallet with less product and getting into the cooler cases in a timely fashion, then going back and getting some more. How long is that trip back into the refrigerated back of the store take? This looks like a failure of management and supervision. I finally decided to write this review and bring this to light, because just yesterday I pulled a package of Buitoni tortellini out of my fridge, I had just purchased it two days ago at the store, and inside the sealed package the tortellini were already moldy. I wanted to reach out and applaud the customer service of Juana a cashier at the Nob Hill in Capitola. Juana assisted me on my visit on 1/17/19 around 7:15pm. A coworker was going to the court house the following day to get married, and though a small service I wanted her to feel special and have a bouquet. But where could I get a bouquet less then 24 hours from the court house appointment and at 7pm on a weekday? I walked into Nob Hill and picked up a bottle of champagne a congratulations card and a really pretty long stem bouquet. I checked out with Juana and asked her if she had ribbon and told her how I wanted to make a bridal bouquet at home. She went ABOVE and beyond and after checking me out led me to the florist section where she then assisted in taking apart and recreating the bouquet fit for a bride. I didn't need to scramble at home looking for ribbon, cutting flowers or fussing over this because Juana did such an amazing job in store on the spot. She was helpful, kind and so willing to go the extra mile. She genuinely cared! My coworker LOVED her bouquet and it was all because Juana assisted in making this day special. Thank you Juana for not only being amazing at your job and going the extra mile, but for taking the time to make such a wonderful impression! read more

I wanted to acknowledge the sushi department. There are lots of times when people complain about service and something not done correctly but I wanted to acknowledge the woman working in the sushi department. I wish I had her name but she took care of the custom roll for me it was a tempura shrimp roll and I have certain restrictions and she followed them to the tee. Besides that the roll was absolute delicious. It was probably the best sushi roll I've had and I've had some pretty good sushi rolls. read more

Since my local Safeway's deli aisle was getting remodeled, I decided to pay a visit to the Nob Hill location in Capitola. What a difference from the Nob Hill Scotts Valley location! The self checkout stands were open in the morning! The store was also well stocked in the deli aisle, and the prepared dishes were freshly made. Whomever manages the Capitola location has it right. The Scotts Valley store needs a new manager for sure. Guess I will go to Capitola more often. read more

Nob Hill is a regional grocery chain that sort of is a cross between safeway and whole foods. That is to say a hybrid mass market/organic high pricing grocery. This location has it's own extensive very large parking area, which never really gets full even though it's shared with ten other smaller businesses. Tons of easy, free parking is what I'm saying. Inside the stock is the same as any regional grocery with the following small differences: The meat counter is totally willing to go out of their way to accommodate any requests that you may have, within their non full scale butcher abilities. That's a nice personal service touch that other stores(cough, safeway, cough) isn't so willing to do. They have a strong focus on regional/local items. It's not a farmers market, but they carry lots more north cali regional item's then you'd think. It's It, santa cruz brewing, bargetto's, pacific cookie company, giant produce and much much more are present in stock. That's a nice touch. They have a beer/wine counter off to the side of the store. Six beer taps-currently Negro Modelo, 805 firestone walker, Racer 5 IPA, N.C. Scrimshaw, Sierra Nevada Pale, and Bear Republic El Oso. They also do mimosas. Wine tastings every thursday 5-7 pm. So that's all totally unexpected and awesome. Otherwise, this is a slightly overpriced Safeway clone. read more

Nob Hill is going down hill the checker didn't know how to split my groceries on 2 cards & then he charged me for 2 items I didn't have in my cart. Also when I asked him if he understood about the amount to split the groceries at he didn't answer so I asked if he understood & he said he did, that wasn't true though, he put all charges on last card I inserted in machine & added 2 items I wasn't buying. I had to go back to the store twice to get refunded. I hadn't noticed he had charged me for a second item I didn't get till I got home from receiving the refund for the first mistake! The checkers all seem very young & inexperienced. I kept on getting hung up on when I called the store about the 2nd item ingot charged for & after calling 5 times finally someone picked up the phone &'said no one had been trained on using the phones, this is what I mean about it going down hill. The manager I spoke to in person said he Would give ismal spelling? more training as he had just been doing the register for 2 weeks. I think I'll do most my shopping elsewhere except for a few items from this store from now on, I live so close is only reason I say I'll be back for a few items. Nob hill seems to have placed itself right in the sweet spot between Whole Foods (good but "whole paycheck" and Safeway (cheap, but nothing fancy) The staff is always friendly, the selection of goods is outstanding, and the wine selection is amazing. My only gripe is with the hot food area. Whoever is in charge really needs to watch a food show, take a few classes, or maybe actually enjoy food! The items presented defy any rational theme. When you make available items a curry next to Spanish rice, sautéed mushrooms, chicken with gravy, and stuffed chili?!? it might help to match the foods so people could, you know, eat complimentary flavors? They also REALLY have got to back off the hot spice... Chicken Pot Pie is NOT supposed to make someone sweat people!!!! I'd give them 5 stars, except for the hot food. It's getting worse too; price went up, and quality is now defined as multiple pastas with possible bits of meat...they still don't match any specific cuisine anyway so whatever.... Anyone spending $8 a pound on pasta is an idiot anyway. read more

Store is really clean and neat. They did a re model a few years ago and is still in great shape! Everything that they sell is quality not to mention all the great help from the staff. Most of the staff is great with customer service and keeping the bathrooms nice and clean. I'm writing this review while taking a nice I can't complain about how they keep their grocery store! I like this store very much, great value and quality on meats, fish, fruits and vegetables (that should be the crown jewel for choosing a grocery store). However, getting a Wi-fi connection is a crap-shoot on a tablet or laptop is very inconsistent. I went in for a deli sandwich because i heard great things about them and found myself in a very unpleasant experience. While waiting to be helped. I was asked by the older woman at the deli "what can I get you" I responded with a I'm here to get a sandwich and her response was so out of line. She said, I know that, now which one do you want? What if I was there for something else? Then while she was making it, I asked for jalapeños and she got really annoyed and said "you are messing up my sandwich now" and sighed in the most rude tone that I couldn't believe my ears. I was embarrassed because there were other people in line that could hear. Stopped by here to pick up a few items before heading out to the beach . The staff was super helpful and nice .. I wish I got their names , but there were 2 men that went beyond my expectations.. I came in Saturday morning July 7,around 9 AM.. I was at the last isle looking for guava juice , I couldn't find it .. Asked one of the clerk but for some reason I ended up at the opposite end of the store .. Before I knew one of the clerk found me and handed a 4 pack guava juice , shortly after another clerk handed the Kerns Guava Juice . Wow I thought , they both took the time to find me ..
