New Life has done three projects for us - our family room addition and two bathroom remodels. The family room was done a while ago and we appreciated their work so much we asked them to do one of our bathroom remodels about four years ago. That went well so this year we asked them to do our second bathroom remodel. So each time we had a project that needed to be done we had a couple different bids just to see what options there are and always went back to New Life because, even though they are not the cheapest, they had the best ideas and were willing to work with us more than the other places seemed to. Richard, the founder, has great ideas. My husband and I have a rough idea of what we want but Richard's suggestions for all three of our projects helped us consider more possibilities which I really appreciate. We also enjoyed working with Junior who was the lead on our bathroom projects. He is easy to work with, communicates well, and was patient with our many questions and requests. He also had some great ideas for our bathroom that we wouldn't have thought of but enhanced the remodel. What other contractors were not willing to do, such as our pocket door for our bathroom, Junior worked out a solution to make it possible. I really enjoyed working with Richard (the founder of New Life Construction) in remodeling my parents' 1950's house. He was somehow able to transform a dark, cramped, worn out space into something that looks like a showcase. He instinctively knew where to lift ceilings, reroute air ducts and take out walls to create an open, airy, and modern look. His workers (many of them have worked there for years) were incredibly polite and trustworthy. I couldn't believe how tidy and clean they always left the site. New Life Construction is awesome! The company has been the main contractor handling our Home Depot kitchen remodel. (See separate review.) I can't say enough good things about the work they did. Everyone, from laborers doing clean up to the skilled craftsmen that installed our cabinets, was polite, highly competent, and left our home clean each day. Although there were a couple of glitches that delayed the project, these were not NLC's fault and they accommodated the delays as smoothly as possible, with minimal additional delay. We particularly want to commend Jay Cruz, the project foreman. Jay set the tone for all the work done. He is professional, polite, and knowledgeable. He kept us informed of the project status, what would happen next, and any potential problems we should know about. Jay's coordination with the Home Depot Project Manager was excellent - they were always on the same page. I just finished up a major remodel on my kitchen and downstairs bathroom. I couldn't be any happier with the care and construction New Life Construction gave me on this project. Pat was my project manager, and he was so nice and caring. When things came up, he really went out of his way to make sure to explain what was happening and keep things on track. I had a slab leak right as the kitchen cabinets were starting to be installed, and luckily Dale (who is one of their Master finisher carpenters with great attention to detail) caught it! His quick assessment saved me thousands of dollars should this have been discovered after the kitchen was complete. I felt very fortunate that he caught it, and yes it delayed my project, but thankfully Pat got me back on track once the plumbing issue was repaired. Ralph who is also a NLC Master Carpenter (great skill and attention to detail also) is one of their specialists who could step in to solve any problems that came along the way. Everyone at this company is polite, give constant, careful attention to cleanup and just plain nice to work with. Jayson, another Project Manager for New Life is also great. He is able to step in when Pat was called to another project. They really know how to effectively schedule and coordinate even though they have other projects at the same time. I also appreciated the great sub-contractors they use for the different phases. They all are professionals at what they are specialized in, and really do it well. ( Many thanks to Charmet Tile, SoCal drywall, Holly Electric, and Forster plumbing) I also want to say that any hold ups on my construction were purely from defects or delays from manufacturers, or unknown issues behind the walls. Since my late husband was in construction for over forty years, I understand a lot about construction so I know that you never know what can happen. The main thing is to be patient, and more importantly is to have a great contractor who will get it done correctly so it won't be an issue down the road. I will eventually be remodeling two other bathrooms, and they will be who I contact when I am ready. Love our kitchen, design with the help of Debbie from Home Depot. It is very functional, clean and modern. Alex the cabinet installer did a fabulous job customizing our pantry. Everything turned out as I imagined it in my head from the beginning. I would like to thank the crew especially Justin (project manager, who I have heard a lot of good reviews about) we lived in the house during the remodel, not an easy thing to do but Justin kept me up to date on deadlines & schedules and made it super easy. They had different specialists come in for each phase of the project, which was a complete kitchen remodel with new KraftMaid cabinets, a new countertop and new kitchen window. Home Depot sent this company to install our cabinets. One guy showed up, and installed the cabinets level, but not square. Every one of the cabinets is racked, which means over time the drawers won't slide, and the doors will eventually become uneven and gap. A baseboard wasn't long enough to span the entire length of cabinets. Rather than hide the seam under the oven, where it wouldn't be noticed, the seam is under a set of drawers and very visible. We've pointed this out to Home Depot, and supposedly someone is will come out in two weeks (four weeks after the installation started) to fix everything. In the meantime everything is on hold, and we are without a kitchen longer and longer as a result of the poor quality of their work. read more

New Life has been nothing but a nightmare. Home Depot contracted with them to do our Kitchen remodel. We payed for a "premium installation" and got a less than mediocre installation. The material inspection missed 13 cabinet doors that needed to be replaced prior to installation. When we brought this to their attention, the response from Pat (a rep from new life) was "life is good, stuff happens." Due to mistakes made by Home Depot and New Life, my family (Myself, my wife and 6 kids) were left to live out of our garage for 9 weeks with only a microwave and small toaster oven to prepare meals. New Life responded by saying "Thank you for letting us know, now we can do business better in the future." They have refused to compensate us what we have asked for their mistakes and charged Home Depot 500.00 dollars for every time they have had to come and fix their own installation problems. Please steer clear of this company, they do not care about their customers and do not deserve your hard earned money. We just finished our second renovation project with New Life Construction. Our first was a MAJOR project, (complete kitchen, master bathroom and downstairs powder room). This second project involved a very large walk in closet, (adding a window, installing floor and baseboard tile, re texture and paint), In the first project, the age of the house and work done by previous owners, presented a number of challenges in achieving what we envisioned. However, Justin and his entire crew were skillful and able to overcome every challenge! The project was finished within a reasonable timeframe. Every member of the crew was very responsible and kept us up to speed on the work being done. The results were even better than we had envisioned! The second project was not as big nor nearly as complex....but we had no doubt as to who we would turn to for the work. Justin and the crew gave the same level of care and professionalism as they gave our first project! It is obvious the entire company is dedicated to doing work of the highest quality! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!!!! They are at least double in price for demo and installation of cabinets. I have a tiny kitchen with seven existing cabinet boxes and they wanted $ 2,000 for demo. Unbelievable! To install 13 cabinet boxes and do some very minor plumbing they wanted $ 3,500. I am sure all of you out there can do the math, that is near $ 200.00 per cabinet for install and then minor (and I do mean minor) on top of that. I have had several other companies out for bids and the most expensive quoted me $ 700.00 for demo and $100.00 per cabinet for install. Also the minor plumbing was a very minimal charge with the other bids. Do your due diligence and you will quickly see that New Life is not the way to go. Home Depot (where we bought our cabinets) will try to talk you into using them but stay strong and get other bids. This was the 2nd kitchen we had to fully remodel into the 21th century. It was also the 2nd time we used New Life Construction. The project was run by Justin. Who did an amazing job start to finish with timeframes and great problem solving skills. It's great to see some people still take pride in their work. Justin did this along wth the skilled carpenters who performed work. Everyone on site was clean, professional, and timely. I am an out-of-state condo owner, and I was promised by the Home Depot and New Life Construction, a seamless renovation project. This statement could not be further from the truth and I'm still waiting to hear if either company will honor their commitment to customer satisfaction. I have dealt with alot of construction companies and been screwed many times. I hired New Life because they work through HomeDepot. I felt this would provide me protection from the usual bait and switch estimates I have gotten in the past. IE-- the estimate is for $5k, but the bill in the end is $12k, etc. New Life stuck to their original estimate much to my amazement. They completed each phase of the kitchen remodel pursuant to the schedule they gave me. They did touch up work afterwards. We dealt with alot of sub contractors and the tile grout guys did an ok job, but within months, there were cracks in the grout from shrinkage. read more

This company only cares about getting the cabinets installed and not about finishing up the job (trim, fillers, crown molding, etc...). They had to order more trim (which took over a week) and now that I have the trim (I'm going on day 3) and I need to wait till Monday (another 4 days). The job supervisor Don did a horrible job keeping an eye on the project and had no idea what needed to be finished up. For example... I told him that the fillers still needed to be installed he told me I didn't know what I was talking about. Considering this Company is recommended by the Home Depot I expected a lot more. I don't get these earlier reviews, as they are not consistent with my experiences, and we actually had a lot of work completed. We gutted and remodeled a full kitchen, raised the ceiling, added a gas line, put in all new lighting and plumbing, used contemporary style, added a new electrical panel, and so on. They were subs for Home Depot and that's a good thing, for warranty purposes. They are not the cheapest , but quality workmanship is worth it. Our site supervisor was Justin Martos and he was a wonderful communicator. No remodel gets done without problems, but the value I seek is how the contractor responds when something goes wrong. New Life usually took ownership of any issues and fixed them immediately. In fact, we had a potential problem long after the work ended that was not of their doing and they still came out to counsel us and suggest a solution. Homeowners need to take their share of the responsibility for communication issues and put their wishes in writing if they don't want confusion. read more

Hats off to the team at New Life Construction! New Life Construction was responsible for the installation of our kitchen cabinets ordered through Home Depot. From planning through execution, these guys were on top of things every step of the way. There was one tricky issue that could have required me to extend the soffit in the kitchen, but Enrique did a masterful job and I was able to avoid the extra work. Home Depot made a mistake in the ordering one of the drawers, but Justin and Enrique were able to resolve the problem in a professional manner, without delaying the installation process. The cabinet manufacturer shipped the wrong set of glides for one of the drawers, not once, but twice. But Justin was able to find a way work me into his crew's schedule, even though New Life had essentially completed it's work was not responsible for the problem. I was not sure what to expect from New Life Construction when I signed the contract with Home Depot, but I can say now without qualification that all of my expectations were exceeded. I would definitely use New Life again if I had the opportunity. When a person from the countertop company came to do a template on our countertops he said that the cabinets were installed perfectly and he could not have asked for a more level cabinet install job. Instead of finishing our 9 sqm kitchen in 6 weeks, they took 10 weeks, leaving us to live in a huge mess. Wish I could rate this company a negative 10. Requested an estimate for my boss. First, it took them almost 2 wks to return my call. After an appointment was set & my boss met with the estimator who told him he would send the estimate over in a few days. Almost 2 weeks past and nothing. No call, no estimate. I contacted the company to follow up and no one answered so I left a message stating the reason for my call. No one ever returned my call. Finally almost 3 weeks later, the estimator sent my boss the estimate. The total cost was astronomical for a tiny remodel and it was just for the labor! This company was referred to me by Home Depot. Long story short-I would never recommend this company. They have zero customer service, zero follow through and their pricing is outrageous, almost laughable.
