Came here on a whim for lunch with two other people. The El Salvadoran dishes were phenomenal!! We ordered the special (with steak, shrimp, and chicken), two pupusas, a quesadilla, plantains, and lengua tacos. Everything was absolutely delicious. Serving sizes were generous and very reasonably priced. We could tell that all of the food was freshly made. The restaurant is small, with no frills seating, and large TVs playing soccer. We absolutely will come back to this hidden gem. read more

Tried New Moon for fajitas. Price seems reasonable until you start thinking about * no chips & salsa (unless you want to pay another $6.50) * sour cream, but no avocado or cheese * only 2 tortillas ($1.40 for 2 more) Fajitas were okay, tastes like what you would get from an open grill (albeit one that hasn't been cleaned recently). Refried beans tastes like right out of can. Maybe some other menu items are better, but I'm thinking I will stick to more familiar Mexican places. So, I tried to place an order for delivery. It was simple, one order of eggrolls, and a combination number 4 and a number 6. The woman that I was talking with, does not speak English. I don't know why I decided to order from them again because this is the second time i've experienced this. When the delivery person finally showed up (wrong address and another phone call later) the delivery was wrong. I stood with him while he called back to the restaurant, and I explained that this was not what I ordered... things were missing. After I finally got that across to them, the poor delivery guy had to go back, pickup what was missing, and come back. The upshot of all of this is that I ended up with enough food to feed 12 people for three days. And, yes, I was charged for it. The food itself was fine, but I will never order from them again. I ordered two days in a row THATS how good it is. I'm salvadorian so I know what a good Pupusa tastes like and let me tell you. Whoever they have as chef back there is doing an incredible job. Wow, don't miss out on this mash up of Chinese and Salvadoran favorites. The pupusa was large, fresh, and filled so perfectly. The crispy pork with the yucca was the star of the show. I will definitely be ordering this every time (but will be sure to get rice too!) All personnel were wearing masks, and were extremely friendly. This place is amazing if you're into dives. the decor is kitschy dive perfection and the food is affordable and fresh. i'm asian myself and i'm quite a stickler when it comes to chinese food so i went for a salvadorean carne adobada! the meat was well cooked in an AMAZING wine tomato cream sauce with rice and beans and a fresh tortilla. the music was loud, drinks cheap, and vibes amazing. i had a bite of my friends combo fried rice and it was fresh and excellent in addition to being super affordable. i usually hate fusion but this place does it SO RIGHT. check it out if you can and enjoy a true confluence of culture. read more

New moon is honestly awful, I ordered the sesame chicken, shrimp with broccoli, combination fried rice, and crab wontons (also known as crab rangoon because I doubled checked that those were the same thing and the man said yes). 1. The sesame chicken was the ONLY thing that had flavor. It wasn't too salty and it was genuinely really good. 2. The shrimp with broccoli tasted bland. Not super good but not terrible. 3. The fried rice had no flavor whatsoever, no soy sauce no vegetables. Nothing at all. The combination meat was awful and had no flavor either. 4. The crab rangoon (or crab wonton) was the worse part of the order. Literally no crab and cream cheese mixture at all. The wonton was EMPTY. I tried calling to let them know and the man was completely rude about it, kept interrupting me, kept calling me a liar and how he didn't believe me. Wouldn't recommend this place at all. Ordered carryout for dinner. Wish that i hadn't. Paid 61.50 for meals that no one would eat. Ended up throwing everything away. The chicken fried rice was white and had no flavor. The general tso's chicken was the hard ends of chicken and had chili peppers burned up all mixed in. Didn't taste like it should. My husband ate the pork egg foo ting after he poured the grease out of the container and soaked it in a paper towel. The lo mein was the same issue as the fried rice. Tasted like we were the last order of the night and they didn't take much care with the order. I feel like i wasted 60$ when i could have just cooked at home instead which is what I'm doing now because everyone is still starving after a 60$ meal. The egg rolls had weird meat in them and were crispy. No one would eat them. Nothing was as it should be. Super disappointed for our first takeout meal since moving to Arlington. Normally, my review for a Carry-Out restaurant would include the taste of food, pricing and experience with service. Regretfully, this review will stop at the pricing and the 2-star rating does not refect an overall score, but is about my experience with pricing and customer service handling. I have ordered food at this exact location - same business name - before when I used to live within this Seven Corners area. However, after about 20 years, this restaurant is probably under new ownership, and I decided to come in for a re-try of New Moon. Glancing at the menu from the window, I was looking for something under my super-tight daily budget. Not hard to guess, my ultimate choice was Combination Fried Rice, Lunch Serving Portion for $6.50. It was 12:45 PM on May 28, so I was pretty sure I could order the Lunch serving, which is of smaller size and is cheaper than Dinner serving, priced at $8.00. As I walked in and ordered the Lunch Special Fried Rice, the cashier - who might also be the owner or manager on duty of the restaurant - asked me for $8.00 exact amount. I was puzzled. I told her it is lunch time and I only wanted to order the $6.50 Lunch portion. With county+city restaurant tax of 10%, it would just be $7.15. What made up the 85 cents? (I was asking myself: surcharge for paying with Credit or Coronavirus surcharge???) The employee explained, it is the Coronavirus Period and cost of raw materials, like beef, have gone up, so the price was increased. I pointed to the menu on the window and it showed $6.50, with no ad signs advising of price increase to the menu. I asked her if she could make a one time exception and let me order the $6.50 portion; next time, if I like the food (which I believed more likely so at the moment), she could charge me more for items being ordered. The reply was a No, it must be $8.00 and she let me go... I just want the owner to read my review and understand my view as a customer on this matter. Customers do not like to hear any reasons that imply instability of a business environment as a cause for price hike. Instead, the reason might sound better and more acceptable if the cashier explains: "Due to the Coronavirus business environment, we only serve Dinner Size for Carry-Out, which gives our customers a greater meal portion and allows us to re-coup the increased costs of cooking materials. And it does not sound like the restaurant attempts to over-charge me by 85 cents. Secondly, the treatment was Harsh when I asked for a one-time exception since the menu is still posted on the window for $6.50. Coronavirus or not, great service will bring us a happy meal. This is a Chinese takeout place that might not be particularly high class, but at least it's consistently consistent. You get can it delivered or call ahead for pickup, but I always prefer to walk in off the street and wait while it's made to order. The customer area has its own kind of unique ambiance, with four chairs and no tables and a drink cooler and dozens of cardboard boxes that clearly wouldn't fit into the stockroom. This place was okay; I saw carryout and got excited thinking I was in the hood but naw Falls Church didn't do me any justice. I had the spicy wings with French Fries and they put rice in the tray too. I did not eat the rice, the French Fries were pretty good, and the chicken was okay. I will say this is one of the most diverse carryout's I have been in. They did Chinese food and Peruvian food so I may return to try some Peruvian food. I get takeout/delivery every so often from here and the food is generally fine; not *good* Chinese or Salvadoran, but cheap and good enough for a quick bite on the go. Today was the first time I ate on the restaurant side, and I can safely say that I will not be spending money at Luna Nueva/New Moon again. The food was... fine, and came out in good time. Otherwise, the service was exceptionally bad. There were a lot of little things, like the waitress weirdly only ever talking to my friend and not to me (we're both women, so it's not even like it was a sexism thing?), but this took the cake: The staff turned on the jukebox/music player around the time we started eating and were playing music at a comfortable if high volume. I have a condition called hyperacusis, where my ears are more sensitive than normal and loud sounds can cause me pain. This was at the upper end of my comfort level and I think for most people on the louder side of normal. Fine. Towards the end of the meal, they suddenly raised the volume to an unbearable level -- loud enough that even my friend, who hears normally, was openly wincing. I turned and tried to get the waitress's attention; when that didn't work (because she was the one at the machine and was still picking out her playlist), I called, "Excuse me, can you please turn that down?" and gestured, while covering my worse ear. She turned the music down, but not without openly rolling her eyes and tossing her hair at me. When she came back to clear the table, I tried to explain what had happened and why the music was a problem. She smirked at me and walked away mid-explanation! Mid-sentence! No one else on the staff said anything to her or to us, and you can bet we got the hell out of there quickly and without leaving a tip. There's better Chinese AND Salvadoran in the area. The food doesn't make it worth paying them to hire people like that. read more

Ordered General Tso chicken after getting some elsewhere that was seriously not good and reading a review here that claimed theirs is the best. Got it home and it tasted very vinergary. Is that a common thing in VA? (Recently moved from NC). I guess I'll continue the search for a place with awesome chicken. read more

I always order spicy chicken wings and they are amazing! Although the prices tend to vary one time they charge me $9 other time 8.50 or $8. Other than that I loved the wings and seasoning. Always take out never eat there it's very noisy. read more

This place is a complete rip off. The worst General Zso's chicken I've ever had and ordered "chow mein" and received a shrimp soup with just celery and bean sprouts in a broth and "crispy noodles" those crunchy fried toppings you get when you typically order soup, on the side. "Mein" means noodle is Chinese and those were not noodles. So shady and bad business. Complete waste of my money, overpriced, and the food was awful. read more

My family have been going to this resturant for years and the quality of food somewhat have gone down over the years and based on today's pick up order same goes to service as well. I Wanted some chillie sauce and owner said that I have to buy em. So I said sure I'll buy them, he want to be an asshole and said that I don't need chille sause because the dish is already spicy and refused to sell me the chille sauce.
