Super satisfied, brings me back to the tamales lady who shouts Tamales ... along the streets of Montebello. Size is a little small for 1 serving, good thing i got 2 and that for me is perfect. They have only 2 kinds - the pork and chicken. Guaranteed super good! Next - Carne Asada Burrito - is Huge !!! ... just missing the salsa - close to my cravings like super close!!! You got choices of protein - 2 choices of beans and 2 choices of rice. Among the places that serves Burrito they're like 4.8 (well because of the salsa) The Ssam box came as a super surprise - it's again super good. Serving portions are perfect for 1 person not recommended for sharing because it's that good you will finish the whole bento box! I love it because it's not salty , no msg I'm super sensitive to msg didn't feel anything at all- the flavors are there, like as what I'm expecting, it came with 3 corn tortilla , sour cream and 2 sauces ( the red and green sauce) Ambiance is well, never really paid attention since I ordered Take out and went to the grocery next door. This place could be easy to miss in my opinion, if you're in the area! Mexican/Korean fusion - though also possible to get a primarily Mexican feel. My husband and I got tacos, which we thought were great! We walked in and took our good to go- it was a weeknight at dinner time. Service was great, the ambiance was nice and clean, and decorated cutely (see photos). One primary point of criticism- the staff did not seem to know what "gluten free" meant and this can be a huge red flag for a gluten free diner. I asked for the specific ingredients (which they just told me, I didn't ask for further evidence), made an educated guess, and got lucky. But I think 1) staff being knowledgable and then perhaps 2) labeling items on their menus would be great next steps for gluten free diners. read more

I'll start off by stating that the food here is good, definitely great quality and delicious flavor. As far as the ambiance, it gets extremely loud in here. I've been here when there was a DJ, however when there isn't one, the music is too loud, you have to yell/shout when talking. I don't know if the bartenders keep track of how much alcohol they are serving - unfortunately I don't think that they do - because many of the men there get extremely intoxicated & then act very unpleasant, especially toward women - bothering & repeatedly pestering them. In addition to that, in the bathrooms, people are using illicit substances, and I don't believe anything has been done about this. As a woman, I do not believe this is the safest place to go alone or with other women. read more

Lovely and unassuming bar with mostly Mexican and some Korean fusion offerings. We ordered the Korean styled tacos and were not disappointed by the bulgogi and spicy pork tacos. So here's my honest review, Let's start w ambiance of the restaurant ... I went for lunch it was pretty empty.. but well decorated super cute small full bar right in the front and loads of seating.. spacious and clean! It was just dark inside the restaurant though... that was a bit odd but otherwise super cute space! The hostess was really nice. Menu: menu is vast and it looks decent, I think they have a DJ at happy hour...? 4-8 not sure tho it was a sign on their door about happy hour & a DJ day party but no date? lol how's anyone supposed to go? Food: I did not dine in. I ordered online for pickup. I ordered 3 tacos chicken tinga, bulgogi & carne asad. I also got a side of guacamole...took about 15-20 mins to be ready not too bad. The corn tortillas - were uncooked on all tacos...? which was odd but I proceeded cause I've eaten a raw tortilla plenty before... The chicken tinga taco - 9/10: should've had double tortillas. It literally fell apart in my hand but was DELICIOUS. Carne Asada taco- 0/10 stars gross. ... this is where yall LOST me completely. This was actually so inedible. I never finished it and spit out the bite I took. The steak was over done, tasted very earthy almost like it was seasoned with soil or about to spoil. Guacamole: 10/10 best I've ever had. Delicious and fresh! Beef bulgogi 4/10 : it was topped with so mouth cabbage and no kimchi. Which is why I got it... beef was dry, and the sauce... idk if it's homemade or bought but it had an OBSENE amount of fish sauce that it made all my beef have a seafood aftertaste... as someone who's allergic to fish (except shellfish) this worried me.. because idk cross contamination I know that you all also make seafood dishes. I spit it out and threw the tacos out. Summary, the carne & bulgoki tacos are gross. The seasoning and marinade needs to be adjusted in the recipe. The cook also needs to be adjusted as there was no char on my bulgogi and my carne was tough. Well considering I had to throw out 2 of the three tacos I ordered.. Chicken tacos are fab guacamole was fab... they got some other menu items that sound good. Idk when I'll be back... the beef tasting like fish really worried me. Pretty cute place and an interesting set up. I think I saw some slot games in there. Someone comes by and brings you a menu. I opted for the Birria Tacos and the Elote. Food was pretty quick but overrall a little underwhelming in flavor. It was decent but bit as flavourful as I would have liked it to be. We both also ordered a draft beer which came in a large 23 oz for only $7 which was fantastic. Service was okay otherwise and not sure if I'd be back to try their other items. read more

Wow oh wow. I expected to see a hole-in-the-wall taco place when I came in here and it was a full bar and restaurant vibe with a ton of locals. The food was absolutely divine. Food 4.5/5 - We had the bulgoki, spicy pork, galbi, grilled shrimp, spicy shrimp, and barbacoa. I would say all of the tacos were a solid 4.5-5. Each flavor was distinct and i truly appreciated the amount of meat in each taco. The Elote was also great! Nailed ever flavor in the book. Lastly, the happy hour deals are great. I ordered a michelada which was refreshing. Service 4/5 - The service was solid and though the server was a bit confusing on the drink size order, the experience overall was great. Cleanliness 4/5 - The place will be packed with a lot of people, but I did feel safe with COVID issues. Pro-tip: when meeting up with friends at Taco Ssam "near 7 corners" ... make sure you repeat yourself and add "that means not the one in Annandale." Or, pick friends with better listening skills :) In any case, we eventually got to eating having had PLENTY of time to explore the menu. I'd categorize this place as "hole in the wall joint" vs "fusion restaurant." Seating is pretty limited and most of the restaurant is taken up by a bar. There's some ambiguity when you walk in as to whether it's counter or table service. You can do either, I think ... but if you're eating in it's table service. You start off with chips and some VERY FRESH but not very spicy salsa. Not bad. Chips are nicely salted, not overly-greasy and the heavy tomato and onion salsa is really refereshing. We all ended up having tacos. I'd like to explore the menu a bit more but the tacos were calling. (When are the tacos not calling?) I tried three: the goat, the chorizo, and the spicy pork. The goat taco was flavorful, but dry. They'd brought by a green and red sauce/salsa of some kind for the tacos and I ended up adding a bit of that to add some moisture. Worth trying; but I don't think I'll get it again. The chorizo was nice. Flavorful, moist. It was good. Hit the spot. Now that I've tried it, I'll probably move on. The spicy pork taco was great. Bursting with flavor, not at all dry... gonna be hard not to order that one again next time. Three tacos seemed to hit the spot. Seemed like a few people were there to play. The menu was set up where you could order traditional Mexican food and then Korean fusion. I didn't go during peak hours, so the restaurant was pretty empty. The hostess immediately sat us down and would frequently check back on us throughout our meal. She was super observant! I didn't know that there was a lock code on the women's bathroom (men's did not have), but she noticed I was going to wash my hands and ran over to enter the passcode for me. FOOD: - Salsa & Chips: 4/5 - This comes complimentary with your meal, but I thought these were actually better than the tacos. The salsa wasn't too watery (which I despise). - Al Pastor Taco: 3/5 - I always get an Al Pastor taco whenever I get tacos, and I can say this is probably this was mediocre. There was a decent amount of meat, but I couldn't really taste or see the pineapple bites. Seemed like too much sauce for me on top. - Bulgogi Taco: 3/5 - I was expecting more out of this taco. Very interesting merges between Asian and Spanish foods. Had the sweet and spicy shrimp taco, grilled shrimp taco and the chicken taco as well as the bean and cheese pupusa. The tacos were superb and the extras of sauces and limes they give you on the side is a great duo. My only complaint is that I'd wish they use two tortillas for each taco as the corn tortillas do tend to be a little flimsy with all the fillings inside. Flavor wise everything was amazing the pupusa was just ok but none the less really cheesy. Would love to try more items on the menu, great location and suspect to be back really soon ! read more

A tiny Mexican/Korean taco joint in the same strip mall as Peking Gourmet Inn. We stopped here for lunch and I must say this place serves some solid tacos and Korean fare for not being located in Annadale. I was tempted to order a bunch of tacos, but I was in the mood for bibimbap and so I went with my gut. Great choice, pat, pat. It hit the spot. Lots of fresh carrots, cucumber, cilantro, cabbage with VERY tasty spicy pork and rice. Enthusiasts will be slightly disappointed as the rice was not traditional...not sticky enough, and the egg was slightly overcooked so there was not enough yoke to mix in. That said, for just $9.00 I cannot complain and the incredibly tender and well seasoned spicy pork more than made up for these deficiencies. Bottom line, Taco Ssam won me over on this first visit and I definitely plan to return. Oh, and by the way, they have a great list of craft beers, which many appeared to be available on tap. Hands down one of the best tacos I have had in the DC area. I was in Alexandria area for my workout so I decided to try this restaurant after my workout. Checked yelp and found this restaurant to have some great reviews. It's such an amazing idea to combine Korean and Mexican food. They have similar style of cooking the meat but with different flavors. I have been a huge fan Korean food not so much Mexican so I was very excited to know that this place serves combination of Korean and Mexican. Spicy pork and beef bulgogi are two of my favorite Korean food so I ordered those two along with grilled shrimp taco. Spicy pork was cooked to perfection with the right amount of spiciness to it. Although they have various Mexican spicy sauces I actually did not need any. The tacos the way they were prepared did not need any add ons to it. Beef bulgogi was my favorite of all three. Taco was packed with lots of flavors and it also came a side of turnips. Price is extremely nominal. Restaurant is very clean and service is great! Parking is easy to find. Definitely recommend this restaurant if you're bored of traditional Mexican food. read more

She helped us with choosing food options and which sauce to eat each item with. I really like they have 5 different salsas you could try. My favorite was the salsa they served with the chips and the salsa verde (the green kind). All of my tacos were delicious and my favorite was the barbacoa. I could have eaten 10 of these! The fish taco was delicious as well since it was so tender but had a list crisp texture from the batter on the fish. I wasn't really a fan of the tamale, it was a little too bland for me. Oh yeah, solid tacos, good prices, gotta love it! Here's what I had from best to least: Best: Gal-Bee Taco: 100% tasty. Tender meat with sweet sauce and a little heat. Boom! Next: Sweet & spicy shrimp taco. The shrimp were cooked PERFECTLY and more heat than the Gal-Bee. The shrimp were big but there were only 2 of them in a tortilla big enough for 3. 3rd best: Bulgogi. Tender, kinda sweet, good stuff. 4th: Carne Asada. Honestly nothing to celebrate here; go with the Gal-Bee. Tacos were garnished with small sliced peppers and some cilantro and were served with lime wedges and radish slices. Chips and salsa were and extra buck, well worth it because that salsa was tasty. Beer selection: Mostly your Mexican mainstays of XX, Corona, Modelo, etc. Nothing crazy but I don't think an IPA would go well with the tacos that I had here. This place never disappoints so I felt compelled to write a review. The food is always plentiful and flavorful, packaged very well, and the service is friendly. While this place is both Korean and Latin, I've only purchased latin style chicken and seafood items. I love how they don't skimp on the veggies like most places. For example, the chicken combo comes with a salad, corn on the cob, avocado, and plenty of peppers and onions with the meat. Not enough to ding a full star, but the chicken, while flavorful, is not as tender as it could be. I think it has to do with the preparation style, That said, it's definitely not enough to stop me from ordering from here whatsoever, including the chicken. I usually order to go but they do have a full bar and the ambience is cute and cozy inside. I even remember my first time trying this place a couple of years ago, while dining in, I mentioned that I was keto and the owner (or manager, not sure - he just appeared to run the place) hooked me up and even gave me some free electrolytes to-go. While Taco Ssam isn't all that much to look at it--it's a dimly lit space inside a strip mall--the Korean-Mexican fusion is surprisingly good and fitting. Both cuisines tend towards spicy, are pretty accessible overall, and involve a handheld half-wrapped foods. (Tacos from Mexico, Ssam from Korea.) Bulgogi with Kimchi in a corn tortilla with Lemon tastes pretty good as it turns out. The menu has both Korean and Mexican classics but, from what I sampled, the efforts to pair them are probably what's worth coming here for. Asian tacos and ambience were good but the restaurant adds 20% service charge on top of the cost of their menu items even for takeout which does not go to the employees. I asked. So to reward service as a customer you would have to pay a 20% tip plus a 20% surcharge for the restaurant. This is unacceptable. You can have one but not both. Either give the 20% surcharge to your wait-counter staff and lose the tip (or drop the service charge and adjust menu prices. read more

If you are ever in the mood for Asian fusion taco- I recommend Taco Ssam. I have been here multiple times, mainly to their original location (two stores down) which is now Ssam Kitchen. I love that Taco Ssam finally have a bigger space where you can sit down and eat your tacos among taco lovers! They freshly make their corn tortilla, and keep warm until it's ready to order. I highly recommend the spicy pork taco (mixed with kimchi)- it's spicy and has that Korean sweetness kick when you bite into the taco. The galbi taco has good flavor, very tender. And the pork belly is crispy, but not much flavor compared to the galbi or spicy pork. I highly recommend ordering the Fried Cod Taco, it was my first time trying it there, and I am a sucker for fried cod. It was so tender and cripsy, the veggies with the creme topping were a good contrast with the fried fish. I have tried their Lengua taco in the past, which I thought were okay. It didn't have much flavor. Their pork adoba taco is good too. I love their salsa bar that you can add to your taco. I love tacos! read more

this place is so surprising in all the best ways. first of all, it looks like a sit down restaurant with a bar and everything, it has such a warm and cute atmosphere, especially right now for the holidays :) but then you can order at the counter and its kind of equally sit down and take out. I love the korean/ mexican mix. the bulgoli was super yummy, as were the shrimp tacos. the price is right, they have taco tuesdays where its 2 for $5 they have a secret soup menu, so now that its winter make sure you ask what the soups are!
